Movie rental refund

I just purchased my first ever movie rental on iTunes and am MASSIVELY disappointed. My wife had never seen Back To The Future (I know! Where has she been!) so I paid the £3.49 and rented it for the night so we could watch it on our 42" plasma as we do with all the other films I download from other sources.
After waiting 45 mins for it to download, we played the first three seconds of the Universal logo before being told "you cannot play protected movies on this display" - this was the iPad error by the way NOT the plasma. The plasma is just a display and doesn't have a computer attached, any error messages were displayed on the iPad. Why can't I watch the film on the display I want to? If I had known this I would NEVER have paid and downloaded the movie.
How can I get my money back on this rental as I certainly am not going to show my wife her first Back To The Future experience on a tiny iPad screen!
If I can't get my money back then fair enough, good luck Apple, for the sake of £3.49 you have just lost a customer forever.

No. Once you accept the conditions to pay for the movie the that is it.

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

Over the past few months I've had an itunes movie rental that froze and wouldn't play, a book I bought that wouldn't open (on any device, iphone, mac, or ipad), and an app that I purchased that worked a few times and now quits every time it's opened.
Is there a way to request a refund/credit for these items?

You can always ask but supposedly sales are final.

  • How do I watch my iTunes movie Rentals

Recently I bought a Movie Rental from the itunes store. I fully downloaded the movie, then I exitied out of iTunes so that I could watch it some other day when I have time. 2 days later I go to iTunes to watch my movie rental and I can't seem to find it? I checked my "Purchases" ---> "Movies" nothing, then I checked "Store" --> "Check for Available Downloads" yet still nothing. If someone could tell where would I need to go to watch my movie rental that I fully downloaded? Also would it be possible to claim for a refund if I am unable to solve this issue?

Play the movie in iTunes to stream it.
Click the cloud icon to download it.

  • Movie rental has no sound or picture just gray screen

Anyone find a solution to this? I cant figure this out and have tried everything

I experienced similar issues with movie rentals. The movies downloaded successfully, but when I attempt to play them on my PC, all I get is a black screen, no audio, nothing. Never received any type of error messages. I can however still play some previously "purchased" movies from my library (prior to me upgrading to v. 8.2.0.2). Before this upgrade I also had never had any problems with movies. Based on several other postings I have seen, it definitely appears to be a software/itunes upgrade issue and not our individual PCs with the problem. I wrote to customer/tech support about my problem, this was their response,(and none of their suggestions fixed my issue so I still can not watch movies).
Also, still waiting on iTunes to offer a refund for the movies I purchased since I never viewed any of them..........still waiting.

  • What happened to my movie rental?

Ok, someone please explain this to me. I rented a movie which apple claims we can have for 30 days and after a few hours it is gone!!!
I realized I may have goofed on some type of procedure but I just want to know what I did so that I never throw 4 bucks down the toilet again.

*I rented a movie which apple claims we can have for 30 days and after a few hours it is gone!!!*
Exactly how long did you have the movie and had you begun watching it and stopped? You only have 30 days to begin using it. Once you begin watching the movie it will be gone in 24 hours. If it went before you started watching it then you should contact iTunes Store customer service about a refund: iTunes Store movie rental usage
The iTunes Store movie rental usage rules are as follows:
You have 30 days to watch the movie after the download completes. You can start watching the movie while it is still downloading.
Once you've started to watch the movie, you have 24 hours to finish watching the movie (even if you start watching before the download is complete). You can watch the movie as many times as you want within this 24-hour period.
The rented movie will expire when either the 30 day or 24-hour limit is reached. Once the rental expires, the movie is automatically deleted. You must re-rent and download the movie to view it after your rented movie has expired.

  • Apple TV taking a long time to download an iTunes Store movie rental

Normally when we rent a movie from the iTunes Store via Apple TV we're able to start watching it within a few minutes. We just rented one, however, and the downloading process is going super slow. It's been downloading for at least 10 minutes, it's just 22 percent done, and AppleTV is saying that we won't be able to start watching it for another 35 minutes.
Our Internet seems to be working fine and at normal speeds otherwise though.
Any idea why the Apple TV is taking so long to download this movie rental?

He probably means that it's too late in the evening to start the video, at least that was our problem.
The movie was Hi-def, lineout, but they almost always are and we've never had it take so long--it would have been faster for me to drive out to the local video store and pick up a DVD.

  • Does anyone have problems with iTunes movie rentals freezing in the middle of the movie?

Does anyone have problems with iTunes movie rentals freezing in the middle of the movie, requiring a force quit, which causes your rental to disappear? This has happened multiple times to me recently. Last time Apple didn't refund my money after reporting the problem. I have been using iTunes for many years but am about to give up.

Correction: I was refunded for the previous movie freeze.

  • Movie rental not playing.

I rented "once" on itunes. It payed for it, downloaded and put it in my library. It even started the 24 hr countdown, but instead of playing it, it just crashes my computer.
All of the movies I've purchased work on my computer, only the ne that I've rented crashes the system.
How do I get a refund?
I don't really want to rent movies on there anymore, I just want my money back.

You should have received a receipt for that movie rental. So on the receipt, click "Report Problem" next to the item name. You'll be redirected to the iTunes, then just explain what happened to you.
I also think you should not blame Apple for that, once your problem comes possibly from you computer and not from the Service you bought!

  • Movie rental error message

I've rented and downloaded a movie from the ITunes store.  When I go to watch, an error message appears..."This operation couldn't be completed (MPACContollerErrorDo main error 3.)"
I've never had this problem in past with movie rentals and I thought it may not have downloaded completely, but when I tried redo, it told me I already rented and asked if I wanted to rent again.  None of the movie graphics appear in the rental section as they do in my TV or Purchased section, only a grey box with the title of the movie in the box.
The latest update was installed prior to my rental and I have plenty of room on my iPa, so space isn't an issue.  I'd like help on correcting problem in the rental section or how to request a refund for a rental purchase I am unable to use.  Thx.

  • My movie rental doesn't show available, how can I retrieve it?

I was watching a movie rental on my Apple TV and there was a power outage. When the electricity returned my rental was no longer showing available. When I tried going to "Check for Rentals" in the iTunes settings on my Apple TV, it never actually brings it back.
How do I get access to the movie? I'm probably not going to find out prior to the 24 hours expiring, so, how do I go about getting a refund?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.
