Movie subtitle trouble...

Hello -
After adding subtitles to a movie file (using Submerge), it will play fine in Quicktime, but once imported to and played in iTunes (10.7), the subtitles don't show up. This problem has started recently - I was previously able to play the subtitled movies in iTunes. Anyone have an idea to correct this?
Thank you,
Randy

I just tried "export as" rather than "save as" and it worked, though it took much longer, and I did not previously have to do this. Oh well.

  • How to show Movie subtitle

    Hi there,,
i want to know how can i show a movie subtitle in apple TV
i bought a movie from iTunes Store , and when i chose to show english subtitle from the main menu,, nothing happened
    any idea ?

To turn on subtitles on the Apple TV, go to:
    Settings >Audio & Video >Subtitle Language
Make sure your chosen language is checked instead of "Off".
If this still doesn't work, the video, itself, may not offer subtitles.

  • Why are my iTunes movies subtitled in Spanish?

I'm not sure if it's an iTunes issue or iPad (the device upon which I watch my movies), but when I watch a movie and there's the occasional subtitle, it's always in Spanish.  I can't figure out how to change this.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

This is something that's been an issue for many of us.  The solution that works for me (some of the time) is to turn the subtitles on and make them US: English.  With some movies it will turn off the subtitles altogether, as weird as it sounds.  After the movie plays for a while I can sometimes turn the subtitles off and all will be fine.  It's a problem with the movie itself, not with your device.  Apple is aware, from what I read online, but they don't have a fix or an explanation for it.

  • Closed caption & subtitles trouble on ipod

I have two problems with my 16G ipod.
    1. When I download movies it plays great but I spend more time reading the subtitles than watching the movie. I don't have the closed caption on or subtitles. How can I get rid of this problem.
    2. My ipod gets hot it that normal?

Netflix uses a proprietary system for subtitles. They have only released the software to show the subtitles on 4 platforms so far: PC & Mac Web Browsers, Wii, & PS3. They do not show on any other platform so far. Netflix says that other platforms, including AppleTV, are "Coming Soon" but no release dates are given. they are adding titles with subtitling to the catalog weekly. Total is now over 700 titles. Sadly, Netflix does not provide any type of search method to allow for searching of titles with Subtitles. I have developed a list of titles on my blog here: http://ncmacasl.blogspot.com/2010/10/netflix-instantwatch-titles-with.html

  • Movie subtitles don't working on iOS4

I encoded movie with RoadMovie 1.9.2 with subtitles. It works fine until iOS4... Subtitles disapeared from video. It still work on appleTV. I used this feature as a "forced subtitles" option which does not exist on mp4. Moreover soft subtitles encoded with handbrake still worked fine. Anyone experiencing the same problem. Oh by the way, the "cc subtitles" option has been marked on.

I noticed if I play the file in iTunes I get the same problem

  • ITunes Movie Subtitles in different languages - unavailable

I think this would be a digital rights distribution issue, however my wife who's from Taiwan can rent or purchase a good 90% (from what I can tell) of the content we get on the Australian iTunes store, however there are three notable differences...
    1) They get all the international content too - I admit, I would never really have preferred to listen to a song in a different language before meeting someone who spoke a different language, but even though my wife speaks Mandarin the iTunes store has Korean, Japanese, Cantonese, etc, plus English / western songs. Although I have found some of the international songs in the Australian store - but we get maybe 5% or less...again, just from my observation.
    2) The Movies in the Australian iTunes store come with English Subtitles as standard, and sometimes with German and French. The same movie on the Taiwan store comes with subtitles for; english, french, hebrew, indonesian, malay, mandarin, russian, chinese (both simplified and traditional), thai, turkish, ukrainian, and vietnamese.
    3) In Australia, we rent Tangled for $4.99 for the HD version, in Taiwan it's $2.85 for the same HD version
Needless to say, as far as costs go, the differences are huge across music and video clips too. $3.29 for a video clip in Australia, $1.07 for the same clip in Taiwan. Now, some might say it's scale of economies - however I disagree...afterall, the iPhone/ipad/mac's are about the same price here as they are in Taiwan (after money conversion), which makes them almost 3 times more expensive than we have to pay in Australia. I have no idea how they can afford tech over there. Anyway, I don't think Apple can discount the price of hardware - I don't know how much it costs to make an iPhone, but it seems like there's not loads of margin in it perhaps after paying for all the R&D and what-nots.
I also wouldn't think the Music industry is losing money selling tracks at the price they are in Taiwan, so that would just mean they're making an absolute killing in Australia and even the US - yes...it seems some Asian countries pay even less than what those in the US pay. (Call me maybe $2.19 AUS, $1.29 US, $0.70 Taiwan)
    What's your thoughts?

Thanks, I left feedback...and I totally understand - what you've mentioned is nothing I haven't already heard before.
But as it was noted on the other thread you linked, this issue should've been resolved via electronic distribution (aside from media licensing), although it appears that I can't see a justification for an Asian country to have all the English content - if we can't get the other content too.
Actually, i'm not even bothered that we can't get Asian films and content, it's more surrounding the question of why the things like subtitles are stripped off our content when it might actually help people who live here to enjoy content available from a legal source. After all Australia is a multicultural hotpot.
By comparison, other Asian countries as used in my example really only have a few immigrants, but most are usually just understanding Asian languages.
    I hope that makes sense...
    Thanks!

  • French movies: subtitled, not dubbed ?

How I tell which movies in the store are French with subtitles rather than dubbed English movies?

It's even more complicated than that.
However if an English language film like Xmen First Class, The Pianist, Inglourious Basterds or Lord of the Rings is labelled VOST, then that means that the Russian, German and Elvish parts respectively will be subtitled in French rather than English.

  • Software to sync movie subtitle and convert to iTune.

I need a software to sync subtitles with movies and then to convert it to my APT ( 2nd generation). Please any advise ?, Thanks.

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Quicktime movies subtitle format description?

Hi to all! Recently I've got iPod Touch 16GB - all is work fine, audio, video e.t.c. But I've read in the features (page 32), that there is subtitle support in iPod, if it's available in a movie. I tried to find in many forums devoted to movie encoding description of this subtitles (in mp4 or mov container), but found nothing. After long reading quicktime format documentation and analyzing some quicktime executables, I've found that subtitle support really exists in Quicktime and iPod - it must be 3gp timed text track marked with subtype 'sbtl'. Long experiments - and I've made real example of 'MOV' file with AVC video, AAC audio and one subtitle track. But there is semi-transparent bar, when subtitles is on.
My question addressed to technical support first - where I can find documentation about how to make this subtitles, and description of it's format? Why this usable feature not implemented on Apple site in documentation?

Probably because Apple doesn't want to encourage people putting DVDRips and illegally downloaded movies on their iPods. And actually, there is documentation available on how to do this, but it's only accessible through the developer's website. If you own a license for one of Apple's authoring tools, you can get access to that tool/software's developer website. Quicktime Pro does have it's own development tools and a developer's website. The documentation for doing this is found there.
Part of the reason there are not ALREADY third-party programs capable of putting subtitles into a the MPEG-4 or H.264 containers while converting a video or just with an existing video, is that it's pretty time consuming, it's complicated, and for most people converting video, legal or illegal, the third-party programs that simply do burned-in or hard-coded subtitles are perfectly fine for a movie for the iPod.

No, there isn't.  You're pretty much stuck with the preset positioning.

  • Do I have to move subtitles manually?

A client asked me to move up all the subtitles in a project, so that they are higher on the screen. Do I have to do each on manually, or is there a way to move them all in one operation?
    Thanks!

Move one. Then select it and COPY it. Then highlight the rest of the clips, press OPT-V...a window will pop up called PASTE ATTRIBUTES. Choose BASIC MOTION and all the rest will go to the same location.

  • ITms movie subtitles problem on iPad

Hi all, renting a movie with iTms I cannot get subtitles when viewing on the iPad (check image posted - in french). On the subtitles menu of the iPad video app no option : only deactivated and no way to activate it.
If I use the iMac instead the iPad subtitles appears correctly and can be choosen.
    Any idea ? Solution ?
    Thanks by advance,

It's hard to say what went wrong or why it happened but other users have reported this same behavior with downloaded movies.
I don't know how to prevent it - but the next time it happens - try this. When the screen freezes, quit the app and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Try the videos again. If they will not open - try this. Swipe to right from your home screen to bring up the search feature on the iPad. Type in the name of one of the movies. when it shows up in the search - tap on the movie icon and the movie should start to play. Let it go for a minute or so and then hit the Done button. Go back to the videos app and see if they will play again.
Another thing that seems to unlock the frozen videos app is to download a podcast - a free one of course. Play the podcast for a minute or so - then go back to the video app and try the movie again.

  • Movie Subtitle Issue

I recently bought an HD movie (Casino Royale) and it shows spanish subtitles whenever text is displayed. Subtitles are marked as off. How do I stop this?

I'm having the same issue with this movie. Very strange — subtitles are off on the (second-gen, 720p) TV's Audio/Video menu, and it's using the latest firmware.

  • Movie Rental Trouble

I currently am dealing with a home PC, a Mac laptop, and an iPod touch. I recently rented two movies on my mac laptop. My primary iTunes account is through my home PC. I synced my iPod to the home PC with the home share feature on, and my rented movies did not show up. I then learned that you have to actually "move" the rented movies from place to place, since the movies can only appear on one device at a time. I saw no "move" or "apply" button next to the movies on my iTunes. I am looking to transfer these movies to my iPod and am very frustrated as to how to do this. Any help would be great! Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry, misread your Question, and realised my answer was completely off target, so blanked it to try to minimise the confusion.
