Movie to ipod(320 x 480), why always 44100 kHz?

when I view the info about the video I converted for ipod, the audio sample rate is always 44100, no matter what the .wav file audio rate is supplied. (I am using a 48000 wav into quicktime pro 7.0.4)
why is this?.
the options box is grayed out so I can not force quicktime to convert @ 48000 not 44100...
my exact process that causes this...
take video file into mainconcept mpeg encoder to de-interlace and reduce to 320 240. (mpeg2 stream type (video) to generate the mpeg video.
use mainconcept mpeg encoder to generate audio wav file from same video file (mpeg2 stream type 'elementary audio' audio mode 'WAV') to generate the sound file @ 16-bit (little Endian), Stereo, 48000 kHz.
import video into Quicktime 7.0.4, and add audio to video via (open audio file/ select all/ copy
then in video file window 'add to movie', then export/ movie to ipod(320 x 480).

thanks for the reply, but you are confusing sample freq. with sample rate.
reducing the sample frequency, reduces the maximum freq that can be reproduced (nyquist) so 22050 has the effect of removing all frequencies above 11025...
I want the sample freq to remain the same because any resampling of the freq reduces the quality of the audio.
I figure since the input audio is @48000 and ipod export downconverts it to 44100 @ 128kbs it must sound worse than if the frequency remained at 48000 (dvd audio freq)
(my feeling is that it is a bug in the 'movie to ipod(320 x 480)' settings.
ipod export uses avc(h264)(or mpeg-4 part 10) (basically it adds an in-loop deblocker etc (so that noise is reduced and hence better video)
and mpeg-4 is not as efficent. (in terms of bitrates)

  • Settings that equal 'export movie to ipod (320 240)'

what settings can be used in the mpeg-4 export settings(h.264) and movie to Quicktime movie (h.264) that will duplicate those preset in the Movie to ipod (320x240).?
I believe the only way to make h.264 files for the ipod is be using the export movie to ipod settings.
    am I right?
The movie to ipod export setting works for me, but when i use the movie to mpeg4 - h264 - to convert the file I can not load the movie on to the ipod.
(the apple spec say h264 baseline up to 1.3 768kbs etc)
But when those settings are used, i.e.
    mpeg-4 export settings:
    H.264/ 650 / download
    custom / 320 180
    29.97
    automatic
restrict profile to baseline/ best quality.
will produce A file at 600kbs for me.
this file can not be transferred to ipod. (even though it matchs the ipod tech spec's)

The "specs" for video iPod formats:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
You can also export video (supported formats only) directly from the iTunes app.
    No need for QuickTime Pro.

  • Convert existing QuickTime movies to iPod format

Is there a way to convert an existing QuickTime movie (480 x 360) into an iPod compatible format (320 X 240)? Can I use QuickTime Pro to do this?
    Thanks

Is there a way to convert an existing QuickTime movie (480 x 360) into an iPod compatible format (320 X 240)? Can I use QuickTime Pro to do this?
Yes and yes. However, be advised that there are potential problems in different work flows.
If this is a 4:3 aspect ratio 480 x 360 H.264/AAC source file, then simply use the QT Pro "Show Movie Properties" option to set the video display to 320 x 240 (or set width to 320 while "Preserve Aspect Ratio" option is set) and then export the file using the "Movie to iPod" option. This will create an H.264/AAC stereo 320 x 240 file with an average combined data rate in the 800-850 kbps range. On the other hand, if the source file is an MPEG-4/AAC with an aspect ratio other than 4:3, then you must manually set the width to 320 and the height to the correct aspect ratio with the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" option turned off. (Seems that the new LC profile does not take the 480 iPod MPEG-4 "special case" display capability into account during conversions.)
If the LC profile is not required, simply use the QT Pro "Movie to MPEG-4" export option and set the target display as required for rendering at the correct aspect ratio for the iPod in the baseline profile. This work flow is preferred where limited data rates, mono audio, or other custom settings are desired.

  • What are the movie to iPod video settings?

I wonder, what are the exact video settings corresponding to selecting "Movie to iPod" when exporting?
The settings left to consider for Movie to MPEG-4 when using H.264 320 x 240 are:
    Bitrate: ? kbps
Optimized for: CD / Fetch / Stream
    Frame rate
    Sync every ? frames
    And the advanced video settings:
Limit description to: Main, Extended, Baseline
    Encoding: Best / Fast

After a bit of testing I think that a video rate of 622 kbps is used when selecting the internal Movie to iPod export option.
This results in 750 kbps when audio is 128 kbps.
Short videos in iTunes Music Store use 622 kbps video rate (Michael Jackson Billie Jean and Bad, Pixar For the Birds).
Longer videos used 570 kbps video rate (Michael Jackson Thriller, ABC - Lost).
However my original question was what settings to use to match the Movie to iPod export option.

  • Put movies in itunes on one computer why does it not show up when i access itunes from other computers or ipad2?

put movies in itunes on one computer why does it not show up when i access itunes from other computers or ipad2?

i just purchased a file that had videos in it. i put them in the itunes library on my pc where i first downloaded them. i was able to transfer them to my other pc, a laptop, through my home network. i am now trying to get them on my mac pro desktop and my ipad2. my mac pro can see the other computers on my home network but i cannot get it to connect to them. i know the operating systems are different but was hoping i could transfer pictures and files from pc to mac this way. haven't been able to get it to work yet. the videos i am trying to get my mac to see came in a folder with both mac and pc versions. i thought if i got the videos i purchased into itunes that i would then be able to get them to my mac pro and my ipad2. i am new to mac/apple and have always been pc-centric so trying to marry it all has been difficult. i speak pc pretty well but am just learning apple. am i trying to do things that are not possible? i sure could use a knowledgable friendly soul to walk me through my issues of having pc and mac on the same network. i have been able to get all computers and ipad to print on my network. thanks.

  • Syncing digital movie to ipod touch

I downloaded several digital copies of DVD movies I purchased to iTunes but get an error message when I try to sync them on to my new iPod touch. Basically says I am not allowed play these on my computer. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I do have a computer with Windows XP but downloaded these into iTunes.

The downloaded/purchased TV shows from iTunes are not syncing with my iPod...and they always have in the past. Thanks

  • Converting slideshow from .mov to iPod loses the Ken Burns effect

I've been trying to make slideshows from iPhoto that will work on my iPod/iPhone. So far the only process I've found is to export to QT from iPhoto, then take that .mov and "convert for iPod". This works fine, however I noticed the nice Ken Burns effect is now gone.
    Any thoughts?

Use a different app to make the movie.
But, if the destination is an iPod screen, then it's always going to be compressed heavily, so quality is always going to suffer. The same thing happens when your high quality photos are burned to DVD and folks wonder what's gone wrong - but it's the format of DVD itself that's the problem.
    Other than that:
iPhoto's export options are pretty thin. Using something like PhotoToMovie or Final Cut Express in conjunction with Quicktime Pro will give you exported movies up to HD quality.

  • QT Pro Movie to iPod: failed export process terminated unexpectedly (11)

Cannot seem to find the answer why this is happening. Trying to Export... "Movie to iPod" in QT Pro and I get the error "failed export process terminated unexpectedly (11)". I got 1 video to work, 5 have failed. No rhyme or reason..
    Any ideas?

As per this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7115716) about QT Pro not playing nice with a muxed source, I downloaded MPeg Streamclip 1.9.2 from here, http://www.pure-mac.com/downloads/mpegstreamclipdl.html, Exported to QuickTime from within MPEG Streamclip using identical settings to the source (minus the mux), and then was able to export from QuickTime with no problems. It's by far no solution, but it's at least a workaround of sorts.

  • Movies for ipod

I have a movie in itunes on my imac i wanted to put on my ipod touch. I encoded the movie for apple tv originally. I tries to just sync the movie to my ipod touch but itunes told me it could not be played on the touch. I am converting the movie over for ipod using itunes but it seems to take for ever. Is this normal and should i have had to convert the movie for ipod in the first place?

appletv support 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps
    ipod tough is 640-by-480
if you convert to ipod in the first place it will not look very good on your appletv

  • "Movie to iPod" conversion not working

I have QuickTime Pro 7. For any file, no matter the size, when I try to export it to the QuickTime specified "Movie to iPod (320x240)", it will lock up at about 5%-10%. This only occurs with the "Movie to iPod (320x240)" conversion (other conversions such as AVI and MPEG-4 will work). Any suggestion?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Yeah, that's what I have finally decided on doing. It's funny, though, when I do a little 10 MB file, it will speed through quickly, then suddenly stop at the place it always does. It stops under "Export FILENAMEHERE" in between the "r" and the "t" in "Export".
Edit: I am exporting to MPEG-4 (from mov) and it just got past the normal place where it stops. Thanks.

  • HT204370 I rented a movie on my iPad from iTunes why can't I watch it on my Apple TV?

I rented a movie on my iPad from iTunes why can't I watch it on my Apple TV?

At the moment it's not possible to copy films rented on an iPad to another device - from here :
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Why Apple have decided to do that I don't know, but you can try leaving feedback via this page : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
