Movie too large via imovie and no sound via idvd.

Help! I have a movie on a minidv tape that is one hour and 21 minutes long.
This is a very important tape and I dont want to delete any of it.
I don't understand why I can't create a dvd (which can hold a 2 hour movie).
If I use idvd it captures the video but there is no sound.
If I download it via imovie, then try to create a dvd, it tells me that the movie
is too large. How can it be too large if the movie is less than 2 hours and should be able to fit on the dvd.
Can anyone help this beginner. (I just bought this g5 yesterday).

Hi
iDVD 6 should be able to make a DVD disk with 60 min or 120 min movie +
menu.
Can it be so that Your menu are to complex (or when added together results
in more than 120 min)
Sounds can be tricky and iDVD can count in sounds that You thought be out-
side Your movie (stretching out after the video ended). If So re do the sound
part of Your movie and be carefull that no audio cont after the movie is ended.
In iDVD: (strang but it is like this)
Best Quality is for movies + menus more than 60 min and less than 120
Best Performances for movies + menu less than 60 min.
Yours Bengt W

Does anyone know what "video rendering error: -50" means?   I am trying to back up a movie i made on iMovie and get that message every time, about 30 times...   OSX10.9.2, iMovie 10.0.3, Toshiba externals 2TB etc

    Hi Babowa and Apple:
Thanks for helping me.   Here is my workflow:
I store any file that I save onto my external drives so that I don't fill up my main hard drive.....( I label each external hard drive by year + alpha, such as 14a, 14b etc.)  Is that a problem?   Any suggestions?
I know iMovie works from the main iMac HD and therefore needs to find the file that I want in the external drive, such as when I "import" a file from an external such as 14a into iMovie that has been previously downloaded onto the external 14a (I download all SD cards & tapes to externals)......and it sounds like you're saying that is causing iMovie problems because the file is not so easily accessible for iMovie?
I assume that iMovie processes the file that I have "imported" into an "iMovie Event" on my iMac HD.  I label that version as say "NLGE 3000E" for my 3000th movie, Event version, "events" that is always rough.
After I have imported media as an event and have labeled an event, "NLGE 3000E,"  then I go to "new movie" that I assume is a "project".....and I label that version "NLGE 3000P1"...."P" for "project" and "1" for the first edition....also to help me keep track of where my movies go.   I focus on "Projects" then when editing ...and watch which edition I am editing and which edition appears where.
I learned that I need to "share" all movies from "Projects" to save......and store my final versions on my external drive, 14a (eg) so that I am sure that I have a retrievable copy.   I try to share to YouTube from iMovie and succeeded 1/10 tries.
Evidently a movie is not saved unless it is in "theater"?
Please see next "reply" for other comments about retrieval.
    Thanks.

    Hi ka_tin,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If the largeness you are seeing is related to the Accessability Zoom function (a feature that allows you to zoom in on the screen for people with vision issues), you may find the following page helpful:

  • I produced a film in iMovie and send it to iDVD to make a DVD with a theme. When everything was ready it starts at my mac-computer. But at the TV the theme always comes at the end of the film not at the beginning. What have I to change, what´s wrong?

I produced a film in imovie and send it to idvd to make a dvd with a theme. After finishing all the dvd starts in my mac-computer and first comes the theme and then the film.
But when I start it with a dvd-recorder at tv first the film comes an at the end of the film the theme comes. What did I wrong? Where is my mistake?

    Hi
    A. Do not Use - Share to iDVD - in any iMovie version at all !
    B. Start a BRAND NEW iDVD project
    C. in iMovie'08 to 11 -  Share to Media Browser and as LARGE - NOT HD or other resolution as quality will be even worse
    - in iMovie HD6 - just close it and from within iDVD import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it)
    - FinalCut - Export as QuickTime Movie - NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION - AT ALL !
    D. When in iDVD - see to that in the Lay-out menu (when it looks like a box-plott) there ARE NOTHING in the upper left most box (Auto Start box). As this overruns any Menu.
    E. Save as a DiskImage - TEST this first - befor burning any DVDs

  • Bypass "Project Too Large" for iMovie YouTube Publishing?

    Hello,
When attempting to upload a YouTube video over 10 minutes using iMovie, it will not allow me saying that the Project is too large and must be under 10 minutes. The thing is, I am able to upload video over 10 minutes because I signed up to YouTube when they allowed over 10 minute videos. I can still upload the videos if I do it manually but I wish there was a way to bypass this in iMovie. Any tips or suggestions besides telling me to do it manually?
    Thanks.

    Hi y'all,
I am having a simlar issue with iMovie for iPad.
My files are way to big to export.
The fileis is 2.4GB and I can only export 500MB to Vimeo.
It's 63 mins and I can only export 15 mins to youtube!
I recorded a video diary and have clipped the file/project in the original project/timeline in to day recordings. I have been unable to find a way to export those individual clips (day recordings) in to  separate folders. I was hoping I could export individual clips in to sepearate folders then export them.
    I hope this makes sense?
If it does please let me know if this possible with imovie for iPad?
    Thank you!

  • Movie too large? Compressor??

I just finished editing our "Trip to gramda's" movie. It's too large for iDVD. Tho it's 2-1/2 hours, it's also about 24GB.
This seems like a job for Compressor; any suggestions on which settings are best for A)getting it onto DVD (single layer) and B)keeping the quality the best it can be?
    thanks!
    r

iDVD doesn't take Compressor crunched files. It only takes full rez movies, as it does all the compression internally.
2.5 hours is LONG! A Trip to Grandmas might put people to sleep. I mean, I have been to people's houses where they had shorter slide shows and...
Sorry...all kidding aside, I think that iDVD will take anything over 2 hours. And even at 2 hours, it is compressing it at a higher compression.
Looks like you are going to have to break it into two.

  • Movie too large for iDvd

I created a movie in iMovie (very limited editing or rendering) and it's about 45 mins and 9.5 GBs. How do I import it into iDVD so that it will fit on a standard disc?
    Thanks...

Well, if you have iLife '08, you should download iMovie HD 6:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
And Patrick is right. iDVD will compress the iMovie project. 45 minutes and 9.5 gigs is about right. 60 minutes and 12 gigs is normal.

  • Quicktime movies too large to import to iMovie

I am trying to import a few quicktime movies into imovie to make a montage of videos on a dvd. However, the quicktime movies are high quality, and the largest one is about 9 Gigs. I don't know why they are so big, as the movies are only about 5 minutes long, but imovie won't let me import them. Is there anyway around this? Any help would be appreciated.

If I have an imovie project that is 10GB, I will still be able to use iDVD to burn it onto a DVD disk with only 4.7GB of disk space?
    Yes!
iDVD automatically compresses the DV file from iMovie to the standard DVD format mpeg2, which is why a DVD can hold up to 2 hours of video.

  • ITunes library too large? (Video and Audio)

    iTunes 11.3.1
    Apple TV 3 iOS 6.2 (6698.99.50.31)
My iTunes library is very close to filling my 3TB external HDD. It includes music, TV Shows, Movies, podcasts, etc. I have 3 main problems.
The most annoying is when something is wrong with my internet, it takes forever to start streaming TV Shows and Movies. Up to 5 minutes to begin or more. With music files, it starts immediately. This is all taking place on my home network. My server is a Mac mini and it is sitting less than 4 feet from the Apple TV 3. When the internet is functioning fine, however, streaming usually begins within a few seconds. Nothing changes with the local network, only the connection to the internet. This should not affect streaming from iTunes to the Apple TV, but it does.
Updating metadata is a royal pain. Sometimes (and there seems to be no pattern), updating metadata takes 5-10 minutes per file, and if the track (on a playlist) changes during this process, the next file will not start streaming until the metadata finally finishes writing. This happens whether or not an image is included in the metadata change. Sometimes, it changes right away. It's maddening when I'm doing it because I have to stop what people in the household are watching to get it going again by force quitting iTunes.
The video library, especially the movie library, has gotten to where it only sporadically shows the artwork in the iTunes library. If it doesn't show up there, there is a very good chance that it doesn't show up in the Apple TV as well. If I leave iTunes alone than the artwork for the movies on the screen eventually show up, but it might take hours. Then the next time I go in and look, it has lost much of the artwork for the movies again. However, Get Info shows the artwork is actually still there, as does third party metadata tag editors. The artwork is there, but it will not show up on about half of the movie library, and it isn't always the same movies.
These problems seem to be happening more and more the larger the library grows. I have thought about making multiple libraries, however, all libraries need to remain online so the Apple TV can access them all. If this is the problem causing the above issues, the only thing I know to do is to divide the library into multiples and run them all on different.
Now, this machine also runs OS X Server, with the File Sharing, DHCP and DNS servers all running. If this isn't a result of the almost 3TB library size, could it be that the machine is overloaded?
Thanks for your help and advice in advance,
    Scott

To clarify, currently on the 2TB external drive are music and videos. I want to split them up and hopefully save some space - and maybe foresee problems in the future when I hit max capacity on the 1TB external, and think about a 4GB (not the best option I see at this time) or another 2 2TB drives.
Doesn't the Library file just save locations when iTunes closes down so everything should be OK? I mean, the prog can recognize everything, it just won't download to anything, even if I move from the external drive an older movie to the new drive, it refuses to "see" the movie so I can download it.

  • Shared movie too large

I downloaded Mavericks. I like everything so far, including the new iMovie. But, I "shared" my first video and the smallest share size creates a file larger than 2.5gigs (hour-long video). The largest an hour long video was before was 800mb. Please help.

A good old fashioned mpeg is still pretty universal. At one minute, you should be able to get it small enough to email. This can be done in Compressor. That said, a flash video file is also cross compatible and what I use 90% of the time. As most Mac users seem to be smarter than most Windows users, I will use Windows Media knowing that the Mac users will know how to open it. You'll need Squeeze for flash, and Windows media export (and the windows export component).
    Sorry if I insulted anyone.

  • File Size of .mov too large

I captured 1 hour of footage using a Sony HDV AIU and Dony Mini DV Premium (DVM 60) tapes. When importing into FCP using "ProRes 422 (LT)" as the capture preset, the .mov file that is produced in capture scratch is over 30 GB.
    My question is:
    A. Is there a superior capture preset that I can use to generate a smaller .mov file from the get-go?
    or
    B. What compression settings should I use that would allow me to fit the final file on a DVD (not to play, just as a file transfer to another computer)

Welcome to digital video!  your options are to capture as HDV, which is a really crappy format or prores LT.  As far as migrating the footage to another computer, use portable drives.  They're cheap as dirt these days.  Get used to buying them for your clients.  They expect it.

  • Iphoto movies too large for screen after upgrade

My movies in iphoto recently stopped playing, so I turned to the forums and tried the fix related to upgrading to Snow Leopard.  This mostly worked (I also had to open Quicktime 7 to kick it off), but now the movies, especially in portrait format, extend below the bottom of the screen.  Since the resizing and controls are on the bottom of the pane, I have no way of accessing them, so I cannot play the clips or resize.  Any suggestions?

    Close off Safari from multitasking:
Double-tapping the Home button will bring up the running apps icons along with an app screenshot "card" above the icon. Tap-drag the app's -card- (NOT the icon) up and off the screen.
    Next, reset the iPad:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

What do you mean your "box"?
You can't upload files from safari, but you can Upload a video on youtube using their app. And possibly on other video websites.
There are also the solution to go through your laptop, via iTunes or a "Dropbox" like solution.
