Movie Trailers - 2 Problems

I think it's really cool that you can watch Movie Trailers on the Apple TV, but I have 2 issues with it. Maybe some of you are having these problems as well:
- The trailers are sorted in Alphabetical order, which makes it impossible to know which trailers are the newest. Wouldn't it be nice to have a switch at the top, to sort them by Date Released? That way, all the newest trailers would be at the top of the list.
- It's impossible to know which trailers you've already watched. It would be nice to have those little blue dots that are used in the Podcasts menu, to indicate which trailers you've watched, and which ones you haven't.

I guess from what Winston has to say on these forums, he's perfectly happy with the features and capabilities of his Apple TV. There are however some people, not all who are vocal, who would like to see the Apple TV improved. The more I think about it, it's what keeps the developers and designers at Apple in a job. If Apple don't want to do it, because it may be too difficult, perhaps they could release the source code into the public domain, as there are many capable developers out there who would be only too happy to make the changes.
It's not that I'm perfectly happy with the current form factor, indeed I agree with many of the other threads that ask for better listings on the tv. In this instance I was merely pointing out that I hadn't seen any other posts that mentioned this particular feature.
It would be difficult to believe that Apple aren't working on these areas but speculative to say too much more. I do however see that introducing listing changes is not as straight forward as you might think. Not from a programming perspective, but consider if you will the issue of movie listings, which has been raised numerous times. I have over 300 movies and have many more to convert, my movie list is long and I'd like to see it get divided up, but how? Many have suggested by genre, but what happens to a movie that I (or indeed the itms store) classify as "Action", but is seen by my wife as a "Thriller", well what happens would be my wife would look for it and wouldn't find it.
Maybe Apple should allow multiple genres or maybe they should use user named folders instead, one thing I'm sure of though is any changes should only be made once, so if there are to be any changes it is important to get them right first time.

  • Quicktime Movie Trailers-Podcast problems

I am having problems when selecting movie trailers from the QuickTime movie trailer list for the iPod. iTunes is opening ok and the trailer is appearing in the podcast list but is not downloading.
All that appears is a name with a ! mark on the left hand side. So in summary when the trailer is downloaded it appears as an entry but with a ! symbol. When I click on the ! mark it mentions something about the URL not being a valid podcast URL.
Any ideas? Can someone see if they experience the same problem?

  • Front Row movie trailers -- not connected to internet message?

I'm new to Front Row, even though it's been on my laptop for a while! Anyway, when I click on Movie Trailers, I get a message saying I'm not connected to the internet, even though I am (via Airport). I looked at Network Diagnostics as both the message and Apple Support site suggested, and everything is reported as fine (as I knew it would be; I can get to the internet with no problem). The only other thing I found in Support was for machines with more than 1 Ethernet port, which I don't have.
Is there something special I need to do to get Front Row to see I'm connected to the internet? Thanks for any suggestions!

I believe you've encountered a bug with Front Row. If you can, try plugging in an Ethernet cable even if it's not actually connected to the Internet itself. Sometimes Front Row looks only for an Internet connection through the Ethernet port even if the port, itself, is not connected to the the Internet. I think the trailers will play through the AirPort connection anyway...

  • Quicktime 7.5 Won't Play Movie Trailers!

    Hi:
I'm new to this forum. I'm having trouble with my "Free" Quicktime player. When I go to the Quicktime movie trailer website and click on the HD movie trailer button nothing happens at all and when I click on the normal movie trailer buttons a window pops up/opens that has the words "Get the latest Quicktime". I have the latest Quicktime 7.5
I have been using Quicktime for quite some time now after upgrading from v7.4.5.67 I have NOT been able to play any movie trailers on the Quicktime movie trailer website. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it a couple times to no avail.
What can I do to fix this problem????

I was having the same problem but just found a solution for IE. You need to make sure the QuicktimeCheck Class addon is enabled. Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Manage Addons. (Addons currently loaded in Internet Explorer)
I am not sure how this got disabled but enabling it got rid of the "Get the latest Quicktime" message and allowed me to view trailers once again.

  • Safari is giving me a missing plug in message when I try to view things like movie trailers. The trailers play on Firefox, so I'm not sure what's missing from Safari.

Safari is giving me a missing plug in message when I try to view things like movie trailers. The trailers play on Firefox, so I'm not sure what's missing from Safari.  I have Safari 5.0.6 and Mac OS X 10.5.8.

I just noticed that it won't play some newsite videos anymore either. What plug in do I need to update (if that's the problem)?

  • Quicktime movie trailers still not playing, could someone please help me?

I have not been able to watch any movie trailers from quicktime for two years now and this is really getting old.
    my inf!
    computer: DELL
    system: Windows XP SP2
    QT player version: 7.2
I have all system requirments and updates also allready unselected derctX and selected safe mode, still all I get when loading the movie trailer from QT websight is the white box with QT logo in middle, sometime the logo will also have ?mark over it. I figured it was just taking its own sweet time loading so I wated it out. 4 hours later there was still no change. you'd think apple would have fixed or resolved this problem since it has been ongoing for last two or more years.
    Could someone please help me?????????

  • Movie Trailers

Has anyone else had problems trying to download movie trailers from iTunes store?
What happens with me is that when I have found the trailer I want to download I click "Get Movie", as you do with any other Movie, TV Show or Music within the store, but when it downloads the file size is only something like 27Kb and I cant play any of the trailer.

There's no solution as far as I know, since Apple changed the way trailers are accessed through it's site (apple.com/trailers) and itunes, If you try to download and you get a weird 20 to 50 or so kB file, that's actually the htmfile of apple.com/trailers since Apple has disabled direct linking to their trailers. so for example this link to avatar 1080p trailer: [http://movies.apple.com/movies/fox/avatar/avatar2009aug0820a-tsr_h1080p.mov] won't work, and will instead send you back to the homepage at apple.com/trailers and right-clicking and save as, will, as described above get you a weird named file (depending on browser) that's actually an htmlfile (from apple.com/trailers) with either a name like "Pv+meMQw.html.part" on firefox or in the case of Safari (when pasting the url into the Downloads-window) something like "trailers.html" or "avatar2009aug0820a-tsr_h1080p.mov.html".

  • Movie trailer streaming problem

When i first set up the Apple TV two weeks ago, i had no problem watching movie trailers. The trailers (in HD) would start almost immediately after selecting them. However, since then, it is next to impossible to watch one. After choosing a trailer, the loading bar would just would a tiny bit and then it would just sit there. Updating to the latest Apple TV firmware did not help. I can watch Netflix instant play movie with no issue.
I have a feeling Apple does not have enough capacity to support all these streaming. I know for a fact that my broadband is not the issue, as seen in the speedtest.net test result below (49Mbps download and 3.5Mbps upload):

Try a restore if you haven't already.

  • Cannot watch movie trailers

I have only just gone wireless and now my trusted ATV has access to the internet! All good stuff, YouTube works fine, syncing all works fine but when I click on Movie Trailers I get a message saying 'Downloading trailers' with a spinning wheel which I left overnight. In the morning it was still doing it so I cancelled as I guessed it wasn't working seeing as YouTube content is almost instant ! Any ideas ? Do I need to activate anything in iTunes? Do I need to leave it longer? I have my ATV hooked up to a standard def LCD TV if that helps !

Sounds like a server problem. Hopefully it will pass.
Under Settings (firmware 1.1) you can choose your local iTunes store location so you could set it to somewhere else to see if it's a local issue or not.
If you can see YouTube content then you're connected to the internet.
Only other thing could be some odd port blocking if YouTube and iTunes trailers work on different ports on AppleTV.

  • Movie trailers on iPad 2

When I try to play movie trailers on my iPad2 from the "http://trailers.apple.com/" web page the trailer is displayed way down the page with the only the right half of the trailer visible on the left side of the screen.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Is there a fix?  I have tried resetting my iPad, but that made no difference.

    Hey FlorentP75,
I found the following information about syncing SD versions to your iPad:
By default, when syncing video to iPad, iTunes will sync the HD version to iPad when available. You can only sync HD content purchased in 1080p to iPad (3rd generation). You need to download the 720p or SD version from iTunes in the Cloud to sync iPad 2 or earlier, iPhone 4S or earlier, iPod touch (4th generation or earlier), and iPod. Alternatively, you can download the videos directly to your device using iTunes in the Cloud.
If you prefer to sync SD video content to iPad:
With iPad connected to your computer, select it on the left side of the iTunes window.
    Click the Summary Tab.
Scroll down to the Options section and select the checkbox for "Prefer standard definition videos."
Now when you sync videos to iPad, only SD versions will be synced.
To undo your change, simply repeat the above steps and uncheck the box next to "Prefer standard definition videos."

  • AppleTV won't play movie trailers...

As per the subject, if I try viewing trailers from the rent or buy sections on Apple TV they play fine, but if I go to the movie trailers section and try to view the trailer for Avatar for example I get an error about the file type not being recognised, I know there's a similar problem on the Quick area of the forums but thought I'd mention it here too.

I phoned Applecare about this issue on Saturday (after wasting a morning resetting, then re-resetting ATV and iTunes). The guy told me that they'd had lots of calls about the streaming trailers issue, so he assumed that it was a "technical problem with the streaming servers, but we have no engineers available to look at it right now".
It's now Monday, and I still can't stream the trailers, so I assume they're having real problems.
Pity they can't send a message to ATV owners that explains that they're having problems, but are working on the case. That would have saved hours of frustration trying to figure out what's wrong.

  • Apple movie trailers not working

    Hi!
I have a problem watching any movie trailers on www.apple.com/trailers page.
If I try to open HD trailer it i get a message that URL is not valid.
If I try to open normal trailer (not HD) I get quicktime logo with question mark and nothing happens.
Anybody else got this problem or there is something wrong with my mac?

That has been discussed ad nauseam in this thread in the Quicktime forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2307414&tstart=0
Seemingly there was a period when Snow Leopard users could not see the movie trailers, but it appears to have been resolved.

  • Newbie question - how to I get movie trailers off internet

My wife and I are having an Oscar awards party. We thought it would be neat to send out DVD invitations with each of the nominated Best Picture movie trailers. I found several locations with the trailers but have no idea how to save them to my computer. I think I know how to get them onto the DVD when I get the video files on to my computer, but it's the first step I'm clueless about. In the old Windows world (just bought a Mac), I could "right click" on the video source and save to computer. Can I do something similar here in the mac world?

    SirScabs,
If you right/click or control/click on the movie link or file you will get a choice to download the linked file to the desktop. If it is in Quicktime format there are no problems, but if it is in WMV (Windows Movie) format you will have to convert the file. You will also find the quality will be very poor as the files on the internet are very small, so they are not really reproducable on DVD. As for the copyright issue. It probably is a breech, but as long as you don't send one to any Hollywood executives you should be OK.
