Movie trailers on apple site

Hello,
I may be posting in the wrong place, but, in the last few days, movie trailers from the Quicktime section of Apple's website just don't play right. Either the audio runs as the video doesn't, or, the video pauses part way through while the audio continues, or, clicking refresh will get it to run further through, but, eventually the video pauses while audio continues. Software Update says no new software availble. Did a recent update change something? I've looked at Quicktime preferences in System Preferences but don't see anything that jumps out as needing to be changed. Thanks for any suggestions,
Jay

Thanks, Kirk!
I had not thought that Energy Saver settings might be involved. I had recently set the Sleep option to "Never" for computer sleep, 30 minutes for Display sleep, and checked the box to allow spinning down the hard disk whenever possible. This was because, I had set up an external drive and the backup program (SuperDuper) was sometimes finding the external drive, but, mostly not finding it when the computer woke up for the early AM backup. So, now the backup works OK. I had not ntoiced that the Video/Audio problem started when I made those changes. Nor do I understand it! I put the computer to sleep as you suggested, for a minute, and, upon waking it up, the movie trailers played through OK and also the Leopard demos. I wonder, how often might I have to sleep the computer to reset whatever it resets? Is there any way to set Evergy Saver preferences to not interfere with QuickTime, and, also let my backup run OK? Anyway, thanks for your help!
Jay

• Quicktime 7.6 NOT playing movie trailers from Apple site???

I have all the latest software OSX 10.56 running on a 3.06GHz Intel Duo but Quicktime 7.6 will not play movie trailers when on the Apple site. When I try, the site advises I need the latest Quicktime which I have already downloaded and installed fresh. It just doesn't seem to recognize it no matter which movies I try and view.
Please help if you can?
Thanks

It's a piece of component software that's used by QuickTime to allow it to decode or encode different types of video/audio formats. The issue for me was that I had an old codec still in my system that should have been deleted/replaced during the last update, but was not. So when QT tried to access what it thought was an appropriate up-to-date decoder, it couldn't process the video with it and gave me a blank screen. Something similar could be happening to you as well.
Try deleting all of the QuickTime components and folders in your system. Because you're using Leopard, I'm not sure all the files will be where they are for me. Do a thorough search of your system and clean out any QuickTime files you find, they'll be in HDD/Library, HDD/System/Library, and HDD/Users/"yourusername"/Library. Then reinstall QuickTime using the installer from Apple's downloads page(or Software update will probably work as well). You'll have to restart afterwards and make sure to repair permissions after you've rebooted(use Disk Utility). Then test out the trailers again and see if that solves it.

• No more access to trailers from Apple site and iTunes.

A few days ago I discovered that the page - www.apple.com/trailers - would no longer fully load in either Safari or Opera. All of the graphics at the top of this page were missing (the graphics providing visual links to trailers), and if I clicked on one of the trailer titles as listed below on this page, the new page would open but it would not fully load, also not displaying the trailer graphic. I have a DSL connection and have had no trouble linking to and playing trailers from - www.apple.com/trailers - in the past. The pages would all load quickly, and the trailers play on cue.
I decided to try to access the trailers through the iTunes Music Store, but, again, the Movie Trailers page would not fully load. After many minutes, it would still not load all the way, but where there should be small graphics for each of the trailers, there would appear only graphics of a broken chain link. All of the icons for music and audio books on this Trailers page display normally, and their links work just fine. All other features of the iTunes Music Store work just fine, too - music, audio books, podcasts, etc.
I am able to go to the official web site address of a movie (using Safari or Opera) and if it has a trailer that plays in QuickTime, I have no trouble playing it. This indicates to me that the QT plug in is working fine on both browsers. I have QT movies on my HD, and they still play just fine. The problem I'm having seems to be restricted to just the Apple web site and iTunes Music Store sections that have to to with access to trailers.
A week or so before I noticed this problem, I had upgraded to QT 7.0.2. I tried switching back to 7.0.1, but this made no difference, and have since upgraded again to 7.0.2. I tried removing "QuickTime Plugin.webplugin" from the Internet Plugin folder, but this didn't help either. I don't know what to try next, and I'm sure that I didn't add any thing new to my computer or upgrade anything, or change any QT settings just before this problem of no access to movie trailers cropped up.
Any help on this matter would be well received!

The Problem is solved.

• How do you download movie trailers form apple/iTunes

That exactly.....
How?
Thanks

Some of the movie trailers just can't be downloaded, have that in mind.
For those that are downloadable:
1. First make sure that
b Enable kiosk mode
is checked (
i System Preferences>QuickTime>Advanced
Once the movies have been loaded completely into the browser (that is, when the bar across the bottom has changed to darker gray) you can either click on the little triangle in the bottom right corner (just like the previous post explains) and select a save option or control-click the body of the movie, a contextual menu will appear with the same options. Do the same thing.

• Why can't I render the audio portion of a movie trialer from Apple site

I have been downloading apple trialers from the apple website for a year now, and importing them into Final Cut. I put them in a sequence, and then render them. It has been working fine until now, all of a sudden, the audio won't render. I have tried opening a new project, I have made sure the sequence settings are correct, but still, it won't render the audio. The video still renders fine. Help.

Apple is on to you...whatever you do, don't answer the door.

• The movie trailers via AppleTV are not up-to-date with trailers on Apple's web site... why?

I love my Apple TV. I have no problems using it whatsoever. There's just this one issue.
The movie trailers I see on AppleTV are not up-to-date with the movie trailers on Apple's web site. I'm hoping there is a user tweek that would resolve this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Adam

Welcome to the Apple Community.
I don't believe the trailers are from the same source, which would explain why they are not necessarily the same.

• Movie trailers in the front row / video

I am wondering if there is anyway to get rid of those movie trailers in the front row/video? They must be taking up hundreds of mb of space? Fun to watch but gees...I would rather have the space on my hard drive (I am stingy that way):)

Jeffrey is correct, Front Row plays the movie trailers from Apple's Web site. They're not kept on your hard drive. That's how they change every week. While a small "cache" might remain behind after playing one, it should be cleaned-off the next time you log off or restart.

• Problem watching trailers in Apple Web Site only

hi,
suddenly i have an odd prolbem in watching trailers at Apple's web site.
when im loading a trailer, it just indicating that the trailer is loaded and nothing happens, and the QuickTime Player is not even starting.
i have the latest version of quicktime, flash and shockwave and in other web sites i succeeded playing trailers , its only reproducing in apple site for some reason.
when i double Clicked on the bottom of the IExplorer to see Error messages,
i saw some quicktime error however i don't know if this error is related to the problem. the Error Message is : AC.Quicktime is null or not an object.
by the way, i don't think that this is the cause but im using Iexlporer 6 and not 7.
waiting for your reply,
A.T

Amir, I'm also having a similar problem with watching trailers on Apple's site. I've tried with many of them.
Clicking on the "Small" button under "Standard" plays the movie fine inside of the browser. Clicking "480p" under "HD" takes focus away from the browser after a few seconds (and I can see QuickTimePlayer.exe appearing in Task Manager), but then nothing happens. The process, after a bunch of initial activity, just sits at zero CPU, going up to 2% periodically, as if checking on something. The player window never appears.
Here's what is more strange: if I click on the same trailer link again, it somehow kicks QuickTimePlayer.exe in the butt and soon two players will appear, one for each time I clicked. I've even tried this with other trailers, and clicking on the second one is (so far) a sure way for the player to finally do something besides sit in memory.
I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2 and QuickTime 7.6. I've tried with both Internet Explorer 6 and 7, and there's no difference in the behavior of the QuickTimePlayer. Other .mov files on the hard drive (like the sample.mov in the Program Files\QuickTime directory) play instantly. The QuickTime plug-in for IE still works for .mov files on other sites and other media (.aiff, etc.)... just not for the movies on Apple's own site
I haven't seen any warnings/errors, JavaScript is on, and I'm accepting the Active X notification on Apple's site.
What is wrong, I wonder?

• Some movie trailers here at Apple have audio only

I posted this on the G4 Mac PowerPC forum here and statistically speaking there are enough G4/G5 computers that posters are replying they experience a similiar problem in only hearing audio (not seeing video) with certain move trailers. Perhaps I should post this in a Safari forum here too if one exists.
The link to my post in the G4 forum is
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1097114&tstart=0
p.s. I'm using 10.4.10 which isn't reflected in my info at link above

the reason i supplied the link above to the G4 forum was to show that other users also couldn't see the video in Safari - while true other browsers [like Firefox] have no problem with it. One of my points is that even after updating Safari to the most recent beta version for G4 it still won't show video (only one can hear audio) - which in my opinion could be interpreted as unacceptable as the trailer is on the Apple Quicktime site yet users report they can't view the video with Safari but can with Firefox [the irony]. Apple should look into this if they are reading this thread [and find a fix] because a Safari user should be able to view the video of a trailer they [Apple] post on their own site without having to use a third party browser like Firefox.
for expedience the link is:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/thinkfilm/intheshadowofthemoon/trailer/
p.s. I am not complaining about this being a problem with "just" this trailer. I am complaining because more and more trailers like this one at QT site are like this [and I'm not on an island on my own in experiencing this].

• Apple movie trailers not working

Hi!
I have a problem watching any movie trailers on www.apple.com/trailers page.
If I try to open HD trailer it i get a message that URL is not valid.
If I try to open normal trailer (not HD) I get quicktime logo with question mark and nothing happens.
Anybody else got this problem or there is something wrong with my mac?

That has been discussed ad nauseam in this thread in the Quicktime forum:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2307414&tstart=0
Seemingly there was a period when Snow Leopard users could not see the movie trailers, but it appears to have been resolved.

• Apple Movie Trailers Website not displaying Correctly

Hi, for a few days now when I go to Apples Movie Trailer Website, there's a gap where the trailers should be. Here's a screenshot: http://img198.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20100412at422.png/ Does anyone else notice this?

Hi Stuart,
I just tried the same page. I think it's an Apple glitch, not your Mac. I had to reload the page 3 times for it to work. You aren't missing any of the movie trailers. For whatever reason the thumbnails are just re-arranged.
Just in case... from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Empty cache. Relaunch Safari and see if that helps.

• Apple Movie Trailers Gone In ML?

Hello Folks,
I recenlty upgraded from SL to ML. In SL I could press/select command and esc and get an application with Apple Movie trailers to watch.
I can no longer do this key command in ML.
Was this capability removed from ML, or is it still there with different keystrokes?
Many thanks for any help.

Thanks for the pointer and link.
What was a feature in SL was a keystroke combination of command -esc which brought up Apple Trailers. All the trailers were listed in alphabeticlal order with descriptions of each and if clicked on would play.
It was a really nice feature in SL, and Leopard, used it for years.

• Parental Controls / Front Row / Apple Movie Trailers

I have Parental Controls set up for my children. If they start up Front Row, they have access to the Apple Movie Trailers. Even though these trailers are approved for all audiences, they often contain mature, adult, and disturbing images.
So, how do I block access to Apple movie trailers? Here is what I've tried:
1. Remove access to *.apple.com in Parental controls. Didn't work.
2. Block *.apple.com in SafeEyes (internet filter program). Didn't work.
3. Uncheck Front Row in Parental Controls. Didn't work.
Front Row works no matter what Parental Controls says. And the trailers do not seem to be hosted on *.apple.com...
Any ideas as to what else I can try?
Thanks in advance!

"Front Row.app" can be disabled by downloading and installing the "Server Admin Tools" from Apple and using "Workgroup Manager.app", but to avoid the hassle for a one-off like this, try logging in to an "admin" account, launching "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering a command of the form below, substituting the managed account's "short name" where it says 'username':

/usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/dscl . -mcxset /users/username com.apple.frontrow PreventActivation always -bool true

As an aside, note that the "Front Row.app" in the "/Applications" folder is just a launcher for the actual "Front Row.app" buried in "/System/Library/CoreServices".

• Can't save apple movie trailers

I just noticed with OS X 10.7.4 that you do not have the save feature for movie trailers that stream from the apple website. You can save them on iTunes, but if you try off the apple trailer page, you can't save it. You can download it but I've gone searching through my folders, used my search engine, even tried to look for a root folded that could be hidden.
So below I've added a screen shot of my situation. This is the movie trailer "Beautiful Creatures" that just got released today on Apple Trailers. I can't save the file through Quicktime.
I'm kind of going out of my mind a little trying to figure out why this isn't working. Anyone have any idea why OS X 10.7.4 doesn't have this option for Quicktime?

I'm kind of going out of my mind a little trying to figure out why this isn't working. Anyone have any idea why OS X 10.7.4 doesn't have this option for Quicktime?
The File Menu "Save As..." option has been merged with the "Export" option under Lion and Mountain Lion operating systems.
As you can see in the image above, the default "Format: QuickTime movie" pop-up option allows the user to "Save a movie file that contains media in the same format as the original movie." Since this data is written to an MOV file container, this action is functionally equivalent to the old QT 7 Pro "Save As..." File Menu option.

This is a copy of ONEof the keys in the registry I changed as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so I downloaded the software and installed again.
Sorry, just this minute went to insert image and it is giving me a message saying this sort of content is not allowed?.
