Movie transfer time compared tp download time

i bought a movie on another computer (because mine didnt have the internet hooked up yet) and it took almost 13 hours to download and then quite a while for it to be put on my ipod, but then when i hooked up my ipod to my computer to transfer it to my computer it took less than a minute for the whole thing to be copied on to my computer. but if i can transfer it from my ipod to another computer in such a small ammount of time then why does it take so long for it to download from itunes??
oh and does anyone know why there are no movies or tv shows in the other countries itunes stores?

Download and sync/transfer times are dependent on many factors. Download time depends on you connection speed, general network congestion, and file size.
Transfer time is also dependent on connection type. USB1, USB2, and where files are stored.
With my setup I have my files on a network drive that I usually connect to over wireless for syncing. This takes longer than when I go down and plug the laptop in with an ethernet cable to the router. The whole setup is slower that it could be because of the network storage but I like the backup abilities of the network storage.

  • Why do I need to download a rental movie each time I want to pick up from when stopped

Why does apple tv store rented movies. Have to re-download each time want watch same rental

The Apple TV does not have accessible storage. It is simply caching the streamed content and once other content is accessed or the device turned off the rental is flushed requiring reload.
If you want to store you can rent on your computer and stream via home-sharing.

  • Do i need to re-download purchased movies every time i want to watch them?

i recently bought the apple tv, and purchased several movies. every time i want to replay a movie that ive already watched before, apple tv directs me to the download page and keeps me waiting until the movie re-downloads. is this logical, im sure something is wrong here.

Try a clean install as described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315

  • Can't play rented movies.  They appear to download OK and the timer accurately reports days remaining to watch.  But whenever I try to play the movie I get this message, "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later."

Can't play rented movies.  They appear to download OK and the timer accurately reports days remaining to watch.  But whenever I try to play the movie I get this message, "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later.". Have been using the Apple TV for 2 weeks and everything else seems to work OK.  The Apple TV reports its SW is up to date.  I've tried this with two movies rented frim iTunes directly from the Apple TV.

If after you download the movie, you navigate away and do something else with your Apple TV the content you have downloaded will be overwritten and you'll need to download it again. It's a pain in the neck for many who have slow downloads but it's something that comes with using volatile memory rather than a hard drive for storage.
Perhaps you're not doing this, but I thought it worth mentioning.

    Hi, Kenny.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple things that I would recommend trying.  Try closing all open applications and power cycle the device.  Next, go through the section labeled Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the second article below.  If the issue persists, try completely signing out of the iTunes Store on the iOS device and sign back in.  Be sure to test downloading an application after each step.

MY DOWNLOAD KEEPS FREEZING AND I HAVE TO KEEP BUYING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT'S WASTING MY MONEY. I HAVE NOW RENTED MY MOVIE 4 TIMES AND IT STILL WON'T FINISH DOWNLOADING. WHY CAN'T I GET THE RENTAL FOR FREE IF IT KEEPS DOING THIS? CAN YOU PLEASE HELP? THANK YOU.

If it doesn't finish downloading then just click Store>Check For Available Downloads
There is no need to keep re-buying it.

    Hi California Jess,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If you were not able to watch your rental movie, you can report that to the iTunes Store by following this:

  • Vado central changes clip dates to transfer time

vado central changes clip dates to transfer time When vado central transfers movies from vado hd onto my imac, each clip gets the date of the transfer, not the date the movie was taken. I have the latest vado central for macs (..0f6). I've tried both "Transfer" and "iMovie" download methods from vado central. When I use "Transfer", the file in the Finder has the download time, and when I use "iMovie" the date in imovie (09) is also the download time.
If I open up the vado hd dri've in the Finder and look at the file on the device, it has the correct time and date, when the movie was taken. If I drag the file from the dri've onto the desktop myself, the original, correct time and date is preserved.
So, it's vado central that is rewriting the time and date on each clip when it transfers it onto the computer.
Is this just me? Or just macs? I haven't seen other complaints about this. I have the big and unhappy job ahead of me to guess and fix a bunch of dates.

Thanks for your help.  My original inquiry did not contain enough detail, so I have added more as follows:
We are not changing any file heirarchy structure or file names.  I should have pointed out that we are using an Avid ISIS system for shared storage and all our project files and capture scratch files go there.    We always use Log and Transfer to import AVCHD files.
"Macrosextended" format is a new one on me. I couldn't find anything about it in Final Cut help, System Settings, or User Preferences; or on the internet.  We set the Scratch Disk destination for all our Final Cut systems to the ISIS Workspace we named "Project_Files" on the ISIS 5000.
We normally use Sony XDCAM EX cameras and have had no problems with their files.  The AVCHD camera we use in some situations is a Sony HXR-MC50U.

  • Cannot transfer Time Machine backups from one external drive to another

Since I bought my 13 inch MacBook Pro in September 2014 I've been keeping Time Machine backups on an external 1TB Lacie Rugged.  This is partitioned into three and one of the partitions contains my iPhoto library.
Last weekend I left my MBP disconnected from the power source but with the external hard drive still plugged in.  Long story short - the battery level fell below the minimum needed to operate so it turned itself off and 'disconnected' the external hard drive.  This resulted in a corrupted iPhoto library which is no longer accessible.
In order to restore my iPhoto Library from another backup I needed to buy a second external hard drive.  Yesterday I bought a 2TB Lacie Rugged which I've now partitioned into 5.
I want to move my Time Machine backups from the 1TB Lacie Rugged to a partition on the 2TB Lacie Rugged (to take advantage of the new Lacie's Thunderbolt connection).
I read the Apple article -
HT202380: Time Machine: How to transfer backups from the current backup drive to a new backup drive
and followed the instructions precisely.  About 2 hours into the transfer I came back to my MacBook Pro and saw a message saying that it was not possible to complete the transfer because I did not have the correct permissions.  The only option was to click the OK button which stopped the transfer.
Can anyone advise what I should do next?
    Cheers
    Tricia

    Hi Eric,
Thank you for your response.  I came across another thread yesterday which suggested the Restore via Disk Utility method.  It worked for me, too.  This was after I had tried following the method suggested in the Apple article above three times but each time the message was the same ....
The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items.
I dare say that Apple would like to have us believe that it's a simple matter of 'drag and drop' but it certainly wasn't for me.  From what I've read the permission problem crops up fairly frequently. Before the second and third attempts  I had already amended Permissions on the Time Machine backups so that everyone could read and write, so that mustn't have been the problem.  I'm the only person who uses my computer so that's not a problem.
The next problem I have is that I decided I would use the Restore route to transfer my SuperDuper clone rather than start from scratch.  Unfortunately, the partition size on my original backup disk where SuperDuper clone is is 350GB and the size of the SuperDuper clone partition on my new backup is 300GB.
Of course, Apple says you can resize partitions using Disk Utility.  What they don't say is you can downsize partitions but (in my experience and that of many other frustrated users on various forums) you CANNOT upsize using Disk Utility.  I have 100GB spare on my external hard drive (from downsizing two partitions by 50GB each) BUT there is no way Disk Utility will let me increase the size of SuperDuper partition to 350GB :-(((

  • Best way to transfer time machine back up files between external drives

I have to move my time machine backup files from one external drive to another.  I was planning to simply move it through finder, but it has been "preparing files" for 2 days straight.  The number of items sowing in the status bar with the status of "preparing to copy XYZ items" has continued to stadily grow.  Is there a better route or should I let it run till it is complete?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's exactly the way to transfer Time Machine backups to an external drive, so let the Finder do its job. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5096
Note that the destination's external drive must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"

  • HT3209 paid for the movie 3 times still black screen

I have made 3 Purchases sofar my first was a movie in HD for 4.99 and the screen totally blacked out i tried fixing it but no luck, I then downloaded it in SD and still the screen will be black and the movie will not play i rented it again for 3.99 still no luck. please can you help me.

    Hi,
Not sure if you are still having this problem, but appears I do also.  What I found was if I pressed CTL-ALT-DEL and selected the Task Manager (this is on a windows PC) that it would return to the desktop where I could see iTunes again.  If I pressed play again the movie displayed and worked perfectly.  From then on, as long as I stayed with that movie and did not stop iTunes then I could stop and restart the movie several times successfully.  But as soon as I stopped iTunes and restarted it, I had to go through the same process again.
From what I can see it is as if iTunes is either validating something or setting something up to play the movie.  It completes that task and then forgets to start the movie.  By clicking Play the second time it works.
Hopefully you found a solution to this,
    Craig

  • How do I transfer time capsul data to external hard drive to free up space?

How do I transfer time capsule data to external hard drive to free up space?

The fastest method is straight copy and paste..
Plug a suitable hard disk into your computer.. format it Mac OS extended journaled (if not already).
Select the folders/files you want to move.. copy and paste them to the external drive..
Double check that the files are copied because the next step will delete the files forever.. there is no trash on the TC.
Delete the files on the TC.
You can also do a full archive of the TC disk to a USB plugged into it by USB.. it must be formatted Mac OS Extended Journaled. It must be big enough to hold all data on the TC disk.. best idea is to buy the same size or bigger.. so if you use 2TB TC buy a 2TB or bigger external drive.
    In airport utility select archive.
That will copy everything on the TC disk to the USB drive.. you could then Erase the disk of the TC.. this is super fast if you choose quick erase.. just a few minutes. But the archive will take many hours.. say for 2TB about 12-24hours.. and you cannot use the disk in the TC during that time.

  • Can I transfer Time Machine Backup from WD Hard Drive to Time Capsule?

I have a Western Digital 500 Gb. Hard drive and recently purchased a 500 Gb.Time Capsule which, at the moment, am using only for the AirPort feature. I would like to use Time Capsule for my Time Machine backups and use the Western Digital drive as my Aperture Vault. Is there a way to move the Time Machine file from the WD drive to the Time Capsule drive so that I don't lose the old files? My Time Capsule is connected to my iMac via an Ethernet cable.

Unfortunately, no. Time Machine will backup to a local drive (e.g. via USB or FW HDD) using a folder structure. When backing up to a NAS (e.g. Time Capsule or USB HDD connected to a TC or Extreme), TM utilizes a sparsebundle. You cannot easily convert a folder structure to a sparsebundle. The best plan is to start a NEW backup to TC. Connecting via ethernet is highly recommended for the initial backup.
P.S. You can still access the old TM backups until such time that you want to reclaim the use of the HDD.
