Movie Transparency

Hello,
I'm new to using Flash and I've created a flash movie for my
site. However it has a white background. I need it to be
transparent. Can I do this in Flash or is this not an option? I'd
appreciate any answers. Thanks for your time and help.

SirChaox,
When Publishing your movie, in the HTML settings, you will
find an option to give the movie a background or any colour, or
just transparent (no background). This means that is it done with
the code in the page and not in the Flash file itself. Re-publish
the .swf with adjoining .html page, and check the difference in the
code once you have done so.
Let me know if you can't find it and I will see what I can
do.

You need to use a mask on the banner. This will make the rest
of the layers under the mask layer transparent.
So what you need to find is info on masking in flash, if the
ads move you will need to look for animated masking info.

Move transparent container from tab to new view

Hi
I have a scenario where I wish to move the whole layout structure from a tab to a new view.
Essentially I want to move from a tabstrip to a roadmap type of development. My issue is that if I copy the transparent container that houses the whole structure, when I paste the structure all my elements have _CP. Is there any way to paste without have this suffix?

PS: Obviously monkeying around with the component using find and replace on the XML and importing via SAPLink could be dangerous. I just thought after I posted I should stress the warning a little more. You probably want to copy your entire component before attempting this - just incase it completely screws things up.

[SOLVED] Xfce composite settings are not respected

I have come across a problem with the Xfce composite manager. I enable this primarily to have conky draw transparently on the desktop wallpaper, but then found shadows and transparency did not cause much more impact on performance after enabling composite effects in the first place.
But now I'm experiencing that some settings in the Tweaks settings menu are not respected. For instance, I've enabled transparency both when moving and resizing windows, but they only turn transparent when moving them. Also, I've enabled transparency for notifications, which to my understanding includes the desktop right-click menu, but they are opaque. Anybody else experience this? I've tried turning composite effects off, logging out and back in and turning them on again. No luck there. Also, if you should know where these settings are stored (text file somewhere/Xconf...) I'd be happy to inspect them

Now it does for me as well. The reason I thought the menu was a part of it was because it became transparent when I enabled notification transparency the first time but this behaviour went away after a logoff-login I think.
The big problem I'm struggeling with now is still the fact that xfwm does not respect the settings as found in Xfconf / Settings -> Tweaks. The shadows on the borders won't go away no matter what I do; however and I'm able to turn off the resize/move transparency in-session. When I log out and back in again, the behaviour reverts, although the settings as I set them remain unchanged =_=
If anything, does anybody know how to return all of xfwm's settings to the default, so I can start over? All I really need compositing for is transparent conky anyways....
EDIT: Okey, it seems this has something to do with the xfwm theme I use :s after switching to other themes in the list I am suddenly in control of the composite effects again... Does this mean that the theme I use stores info on what composite effects it should use??

Syncing pictures toa Logic song

I think it's possible but I haven't made it yet. How I can sync some pictures (not a movie) in some points of a song so that I can view them in that precise moments on playback?

I don't know if you can in Logic...Curious if someone knows a way.
If you've got the cash you could look at Arkaos, vdmx or gridPro which all should be able to trigger clips from incoming midi messages.
Quartz composer can do it for free too if you've got the developer tools installed from the Tiger DVD. The downside is that your going to have to build it yourself. Probably a virtual midi router like MidiPipe and send midi notes out to Quartz that sets a quicktime image/movies' transparency.

Yes. It is very difficult to convience, get the right resouces and manage them.
Key factors are high availability and scalability. When application connected to an instance and it crashes, the connection moves transparently to surviving node. DMLs may affect. However, application won't lose connection.
On demand you can add and remove node according load, grid concept.
In addition providing the document, you can setup a test envrionment using VM and show the high availability demo.
You can start with standard edition with ASM if applicaiton doen't require enterprise features. It will cost less.

Problem with AVI file in timeline

Hi,
I am importing an avi file into After Effects CS3. When I play the file it is fine but when I drag it into the timeline it messes up in one spot. It makes part of the movie transparent and adds wierd artifacts. It goes away again after a few frames. How can I fix that? What is it?

In what format is the AVI? Is it highly compressed, like, divx, xvid, or some other format? Your best bet may be to transcode that avi to a different format prior to using it in AE. Some good format options would be Quicktime "Animation" codec @ best/full quality, or an uncompressed .avi (file size will be larger).

IMac's 27 large screen not that useful

I agree with the user here that the iMac 27 is not ergonomically sound. You can't really take advantage of the large screen unless you are watching a movie full screen. Otherwise, the text size are too small so that you have to move your head and back (the whole torso) to the left and right side, which can be annoying. It seems for multitasking two or three screens all angled towards your head so that you don't have to move your head uncomfortably is the better way to have a large screen. Or just have two small screen for multitasking while having one large screen for watching movies might be better. Is there a way to play the movie transparently so that while you are reading and typing you can watch the movie without turning your head?

So? Don't use full screen for anything but a video clip or movie. That feature's only useful for small screen hand-helds, IMO. FWIW, mine's set at 2560 x 1440, and all window text is set at 10-pitch. No problems reading anything with these 70+ year old peepers. If the text is too small for you, decrease the resolution, change the window font size to something larger (View->View Options), or use the Universal Access zoom feature. Can't help with the multitasking thing, since I watch movies on my 46" TV and reserve this machine for computing.

Gradient or Mask stage background?

Hello all,
I was wondering if there is a way to apply a gradient or mask
to the stage background. Essentially making part of the flash movie
transparent to the content / page behind it. I am relatively new to
Flash and I am using CS4 with AS3.

This isn't possible directly, but the workaround is easy.
Create a new
layer and drag it to the bottom of whatever layers you may
already have in
the Timeline panel. Doing so puts your new layer beneath all
other content.
In the new layer, use the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangle
to the same
dimensions as the Stage. Use the Free Transform tool or the
Align panel to
get your rectangle to the exact dimensions. Use the Color
panel to give the
rectangle a gradient fill.

Aha. Then you'll have to use something called WMODE in the
HTML itself.
This *does* work in most browsers nowadays, but it's
potentially buggy in

Creating a custom Flash Player

I am totally new to Flash Builder and currently downloading the trial version. While I am waiting, is this the correct product for me?
I have a VP6 Alpha Channel .flv movie (transparent background). I would like to create a custom flash player for my website to display and control this movie.The player needs the following properties:
1. Play the movie transparently (using "wmode"?)
2. Play, pause, volume and exit buttons on the control bar
3. Autohide control bar
4. Logo / text on the control bar
5. Ability to unload itself after the movie ends
Is this the right product for me? If so, any links on how to create this player would be useful. If not, which product do I need?

Make White Background of Movie Clip Transparent

I have a .mov of an animated object on a white background. How do I make the white background transparent to get the composite effect of inserting the animation in another movie? I am using FCE 4.

Set transfert mode for this clip to multiply.
If the white doesn't become transparent, try to apply a brightness and contrast to purify the white or use a color correction to set a new white balance.

Well, what's the settings in the Avid? By default it will invert the Alpha, you may need to invert it in the Alpha key's settings by ways of the effect editor. Also make sure to choose the Alpha in the first place. If it's not been selected on import in the options, it will never appear once the system has converted the clip.

Get 'Generic Error' when attempting to import .mov files with transparency?

I get the 'Generic Error' when attempting to import .mov files with transparency? I'm trying to use mattes with an alpha channel but I cannot import them. I have had this same issue since cs6, now I have it with cc 2014? Any clues would be most appreciated.
I have uninstalled the DVCPro Codec, but it didn't help.
I have tried converting the .mov file (which is now automatic in Yosemite) and this creates a ProRes4444 Codec, Again no luck with import.
I've seen this issue on the web, but never a solution? Anyone?

I tried iPhoto Library Manager but it could not solve my problem. Opening the iPhoto library I can see that the reference to the pictures are pointing to my old location not to the new one. I considered running a script that would change all pointers since this is basically what is needed (in my case from /Volumes/RAID1/Fotos/XXX to /Volumes/Fotos/XXX). Instead I inserted a soft unix link to make to connection but that did not work. It is referring to the airport disk by the airport name rather than the mounted disk name. Very strange indeed. The problem is maybe not in iPhoto but in OSX? Anyway, maybe the only way out is to take some hours and manually run through all linked photos... cumbersome and annoying!

No transparency in my Quicktime movies in AE CS3 -- help

I'm rendering a set of animated captions on a transparent background. I need to drop them over existing video, so I need to maintain their transparency. I am, rendering them as QT movies, as animation, RGB+Alpha, millions + colors, straight: Unmultiplied. I can render a png sequence and hold the transparency, but I cannot get a quicktime movie to stay transparent. I get a black background. Can the Avid import the Quick time and key out the black? Am I doing something wrong. Importing the PNG sequence takes forever -- I have to ftp it across town and it toook an hour just to load onto the ftp site! Is rendering out to PNG sequences my only option. Why am I unable to get a transparent qt movie? ARGGGHHH!! I read on here that re-loading Quicktime might help? Has that worked for anyone? Is that the trouble? Anyone? Help?

I'm making an intentionally terrible montage. How can I convert a gif to a transparent .mov?

I want to be able to insert gifs into my final cut videos. They have to loop, and be transparent.
Is there a program that can convert them into transparent .movs or some other format recognized by Final Cut Pro?

Quick Time Pro should be able to open the GIF and save as a Quicktime .mov file. Whether the looping will work I don't know and can't test it.myself.
If you don't have QT Pro, it's a $30 license.
