Movie/Vid question

Can I add a movie on DVD to iTunes and then load it onto my new iPhone (just bought it about 3 hours ago, having a blast so far). If so, how do I get it into iTunes?

This is possible but against the Terms of Use to discuss here due to copyright issues.
Do a Google search with this for an answer.

  • IMovie 6 HD - Export Movie Size Question

    There is a confusing list of movie export size options that I need to get your clarification about. Some of the selections seem to be similar.
    To see what I am referring to go into iMovie HD 6, under the SHARE menu, go to Save Movie For: Expert Settings Export Settings > Select Movie to QuickTime Movie (then hit the options tab to the right > Under the Video Section, select SIZE - note the Export Size Settings - DImensions drop down list. Note there are two sections. The last two items in the top section listed are (exactly worded as) 1280 x 720 HD and 1920 X 1080 HD. In the bottom section the last three entries are HD 1280 x 720 16:9, HD 1440 x 1080 16:9 and HD 1920 x 1080 16:9. What's the difference, for example, between the 1280 x 780 HD and the bottom one HD 1280 x 780 16:9? I ask because my HD camcorder movie footage (shot at 1080i, 29.97, 16:9) with an HV30 exports smooth at 1280x720 HD but jerky at HD 1280 x 780 16:9. They sound the same, but one is jerky and one smooth.
    The other question I have is 1440x1040 is 4:3 ratio. But it exports at 16:9 aspect ratio. I don't understand why.

    Donna:
    While I have a lot of video editing experience with an SD digital camcorder, the Canon HV30 HDV cam is new to me. So I am experimenting. That said, footage that will be shot will end up in a couple of places. Some of it will be passed onto my company's web master for posting to the web in some kind of Flash video format. Other video will be used in Keynote presentations as full screen video clips. Others will be used as source video for creating 4x3 SD clips for PowerPoint on a PC by others. So, the video will be used in different formats. (In what format to shoot is another question, but I have concluded (I hope correctly) that I should just shoot HDV 1080i since it seems to be the easiest to deal with for uploading to iMovie6 HD.)
    The purpose of my inquiry was to determine what the various selections are used for and what they do. Sometimes the video is jerky, sometimes an identical movie size is smooth (but must be rendered or processed differently). I was only trying to determine why there appeared to be repetative choices in the list of movie sizes as I mentioned in my original post. To be blunt, iMovie 6 HD documentation is spotty at best. The O"Reilly books don't cover the hard parts.

  • Movie Purchases Question

    I am looking at purchasing an Apple TV. I like the idea of keeping my purchased movies on my Apple TV, rather than consuming HD space on my MBP. My single concern is whether I will be able to push those purchased movies from my Apple TV to my iPhone should I want to watch them when I travel?
    Any help with this question is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    not directly no.
    you would need to sync it to an itunes library first, and then push it on to the iphone from itunes.

  • Movie playback question

    I dont own an iPod yet, and never have, thus I have no experience with them. I am considering a 3G, 32GB touch model because I need a better mp3 player, and well, not not get a laptop replacement at the same time(my laptop will not work wireless).
    One of the things that is making me consider dropping the additional coin for the touch over a Nano is the ability to watch movies on the go, as in keeping a child entertained on a long trip.
    My question is this: is it possible to download movies from DVD's to the touch? I have a lot of movies that I have burned copies and removed any copyright issues...is there a way, through a PC, to transfer from the DVD to the touch?
    Im still a relativley new and infrequent user of iTunes as well, can this be done through iTunes maybe?
    Or do you have to buy/rent and download all movie content from the apple store through iTunes?
    Thanks

  • Move project question

    I'm new to Final Cut Pro X - used FC Express (4, I think) for years.  Some how I didn't set up the project properly when I started and while the media files were on the external Firewire 800 drive I bought for the project, everything else was on the internal drive, which was fairly quickly filling up (hardware & software info below).  Did some research on this forum and used the move project command to move the project to the external drive.  The problem is now when I Launch Final Cut and open the project there are no Timeline events.  The directory and files on the hard drive look the same as they did on the internal drive.  My question is, am I screwed?  Is there any way to retrive my Timeline or do I need to start over.  I was almost done - the video was a musical we filmed here - four cameras, separate audio recording, 200+ events in the timeline.  Please help.

    In FCPX the only way to open projects is from within the app – accessing the project files from the Library.

      I guess my question is where did I miss a step to keep from loading up my main drive with all the render files?  I don't think I ever saw anything where I could have specified that.  Where do you assign the scratch drive?
    You have a choice of keeping your projects and events on your start up disk in th e home folder>Movies, or on another drive on your network – at the root level of that drive. Those other drives appear in the project and event libraries. If you select one of the drives and create a new event (Option–N), it will put that event in a FC Events folder at the drives root level. Creating new projects (Command–N) works similarly. IMO, it's the best way to organize projects and events.
    Also, sorry about no screenshots but I couldn't remember how to do it.

  • Nokia N80 move messages question

    I was toying with my message settings a bit, and I found the option to change the location where messages are stored. I changed it to my memory card, but as I was doing that, I decided it might be best not to do that in case I switch memory cards or whatever. At that very moment I was presented with the question 'Do you want to move your messages to the memory card?' or something like that. As I wanted to restore the settings, I selected 'no'. However, I remembered one thing: all bluetooth messages were stored in the phone memory (iirc), which means I cannot receive big files on my 2GB card. As I'd probably not change memorycards anyway, it suddenly seemed a good idea to have my messages stored on the memorycard. However, when I select my memorycard now, I am not presented with that question anymore :/ The only thing it does is set the message storing folder to my sd-card, but not only that, it also only reads from that location. I cannot read any messages from my phone memory, and after switching back to the phone memory, I figured out I could not manually move them either. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I'm using the 3.0617.0.6 firmware.

    I think you'll only get this option once.
    One way is, change the mem to SD card then connect the phone to your PC and it *should* move everything over for you.
    Does for me when the phone crashes, forgets the mem card and I have messages in both locations!

  • Motion 4: Match Move (additional question...)

    This is a bit of an extension to my previous question...
    I am matching the camera position to the move of an object (already did that) but then once it get's to a certain point, I want the camera to stop and then have the object keep on going (in this case, out of the frame)...
    Is this possible? Once the behavior ends, the camera goes back to it's original spot....
    The Hold Frame in the Retiming Behavior panel doesn't work....
    Anyhow, any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Well I "hacked it"...
    I duplicated the object... butted it right next to it's twin, then keyed the opacity from 100 and 0 to the next frame, the duplicate kept on going....
    However if there is a better way, it would be nice to know...

  • Picture / movie clip question

    I might be buying a Macbook in the next few days but I was wondering if I can mix pictures and videoclips on the same DVD when burning. I'm currently using DVD Maker for Windows and I'm able to put in a few pictures, followed by a clip and then more picrures, etc... Just want to know if I can do the same thing with the ILife software...
    Thanks!
    Message was edited by: Rob72

    Absolutely! You can make iMovies with both video clips and still photos and put it into iDVD. You can also make slideshows in iPhoto and import into iDVD. You can even put videoclips into iDVD in the slideshow well and burn your movies that way.
    You are on the right track by coming to these discussion forums. Keep reading the posts of the iLife applications you will be using, noting who seems to be more expert in each area and you will learn a great deal. Always search for your particular question first; chances are that someone else has already asked what you want to know and you will be able to benefit from all the responses. If no one seems to have your answer, then post a new topic and wait for the responses.
    You should also do all the Apple tutorials for each app of iLife that you will be using, to give you more visualization of how they work.
    Welcome to Macs!

  • ITunes downloaded movies' quality question..

    Hi everyone.
    I just got me a Fifth Generation, 30GB iPod, and I can say, I am really satisfied with it. I synced all my songs in it, and a month from now, I am planning to buy an AV kit for it, for me to be able to watch all my iTunes bought movies in my 37" HDTV, and therefore, making it an advantage for me to just sync all the movies in my iPod instead of buying a hard copy DVD. What bugs me, though, is will the quality be really comparable to those of the DVD's once I plug and watch all my movies into my HDTV, and will the sound be clear? I am not so worried on the photos, for I am aware that it depends on their size. However, the movies are really posing a major question if I must or must not buy movies from iTunes, or just convert my DVD's to MP4 format.
    To those who had already tried hooking up their 5G iPod into their Hi Def's, your help will be more than appreciated.
    P.S., how long will it take me to download a single, full length movie from iTunes?
    Again, Thanks.

    I don't have Hi-Def but the quality is excellent on a 23-inch analog set.
    I have 1.5 Mbps DSL and I download a 2-hour movie in approximately 2-1/2 hours.

  • Move file question

    I have been working on a script that utilizes 'isight capture' app.
    http://osxdaily.com/2007/01/24/capture-isight-images-using-the-command-line/
    do shell script "DATE=`date '+%I.%M.%p-%h.%e.%Y-'`;
    FILE=~/Desktop/${DATE}Webcam.jpg;
    ~/bin/isightcapture ~/Desktop/${DATE}Webcam.jpg;
    if [ -e $FILE ]; then
    open /Applications/Preview.app $FILE;fi"
    tell application "System Events" to keystroke "z" using {command down, control down}
    (comment)
    ( this will make the window full sized and center the picture, (gasp, Windows Maximize) I found this on another website. I had to enable this by running this command in terminal
    "defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSUserKeyEquivalents '{"Zoom" = "@^Z"; "Zoom Window" = "@^Z"; }'"
    (comment)
    delay 4
    tell application "Preview" to quit
    I have so far figured out (thanks to google and other posters) how to get it to take the picture and then open the picture in preview for a short time. Now I am trying to figure out how to move the file. So if it is a good picture I would like to be able to move it to a more permanent folder instead of just the desktop. The problem is I have a hard time figuring out how to define it since the file name varies so much depending on the date and time. The only thing that is consistent is the last portion "Webcam.jpg".
    i.e. "01.33.PM-Apr.18.2010-Webcam.jpg"
    Can anyone help me with moving the file?
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Sincerely,
    Michael~

    Thank you guys for helping me out with this one. I got it to go with the applescript. I couldn't figure out the shell script solution, I suspect I had a path error.
    Here is the final script:
    tell application "Finder"
    move (every file of desktop whose name ends with "Webcam.jpg") to trash
    end tell
    do shell script "DATE=`date '+%k.%M.%S-%h%e.%Y-'`;
    FILE=~/Desktop/${DATE}Webcam.jpg;
    ~/bin/isightcapture ~/Desktop/${DATE}Webcam.jpg;
    if [ -e $FILE ]; then
    open /Applications/Preview.app $FILE;fi"
    tell application "System Events" to keystroke "z" using {command down, control down}
    delay 4
    tell application "Preview" to quit
    tell application "Finder"
    set theFile to (every file of desktop whose name ends with "Webcam.jpg")
    end tell
    set question to display dialog "What would you like to do with the picture?" buttons {"Keep", "Trash", "Email"} default button 2 giving up after 5
    set answer to button returned of question
    if answer is equal to "Keep" then
    tell application "Finder"
    move (every file of desktop whose name ends with "Webcam.jpg") to "Macintosh HD:Users:Path:Path:Path"
    end tell
    end if
    if answer is equal to "Trash" then
    tell application "Finder"
    move theFile to trash
    end tell
    end if
    if answer is equal to "Email" then
    set file_attachment to theFile as alias
    tell application "Mail"
    set theMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {visible:true, subject:"", content:""}
    tell content of theMessage
    make new attachment with properties {file name:file_attachment}
    end tell
    end tell
    tell application "System Events" to set frontmost of process "Mail" to true
    tell application "Finder"
    move (every file of desktop whose name ends with "Webcam.jpg") to "Macintosh HD:Users:Path:Path:Path"
    end tell
    end if
    if answer is equal to "" then

  • Play movie "resume" question, adding subitles

    Sorry if this question has been asked a billion times.
    I understand by adding subtitle streams with a "view" checkmark is being able to view or not view subtitles. However, I want to add 1 button to add subtitles, 1 for off, then 1 for resume movie.
    1) How do I make the initial "play" button to work with the beginning movie, or resume when the movie has already started playback?
    2) How do I add a button with "subitles on" and forward to a "resume" button, if the movie has never been played yet?
    -This will be greatly appreciated!
    -Eric

    It helps to name a gprm, you could call this one "been there done that"
    Create one script called "play movie", You can use as a pre-script on your track, or simply point the "play" button on the main menu to this script and make the script jump to the movie:
    mov GPRM "been there done that" 1 (set your gprm to 1)
    jump "movie" (optional line to jump to the movie if the script is a stand-alone)
    Then create a second script called "resume"
    Resume IF GPRM "been there done that" = 1
    Jump "movie" (if the condition in the first line is not met, this line will play the movie from the beginning.)
    I'm not sure if the first script would run if someone goes straight to your chapter selection menu to play a chapter, even if you used it as a pre-script, but this should work for the other 99.9% of cases.
    Hope this helps -

  • Quicktime Movie compression question

    This is a G5 using 10.5.8 and Final Cut Pro 5.1.4.
    I'd like to submit a how-to video to a contest, and the maximum allowable size is 500 MB. My movie is presently three times that size. Is there any way I can compress a QT movie to a smaller size without too much loss of quality, or do I have to just keep editing and chopping away at the video until I get it down to one-third the length it is now? I'm afraid I'll lose too much how-to information if I do that.
    I exported the 7 min. 26 sec. video as a QuickTime movie to see what size file it was, and it came out 1.58 Gigabytes.
    Under Export, I see that there are also options to export to Compressor or Using QT Conversion. Can anyone tell me how, or where to find out how, to export this video at its present length, but as a smaller file, without losing too much quality? The contest will accept a variety of video formats, but when I converted the project to AVI or MP4 (Using QT Player) the quality got really bad, with a lot of artifacts, halos, etc.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Tom

    Thanks Ben--it looks like it will take care of things. I note that this method shrinks down the QT viewing window and cuts down on the number of frames per second, but the quality isn't reduced too much. By doing that I will be able to send them the full 7.5 minutes of my video, reduced to a file size of about 450 MB, down from 1.58 GB.
    This how-to contest asks you to send them your video over the Internet, but I don't know whether they're viewing and judging the videos on a computer or not. If they're not, then they're going to be viewing mine in a pretty small window on whatever monitor or TV they use, but it still beats chopping the video down to practically nothing so that I could send it to them in full quality.
    Thanks much for taking the time to help me out.
    Best wishes,
    Tom
