Movie vs DV stream

My QuickTime movies stop and stutter (in QuickTime AND Keynote). But, if I export the movies as a DV stream, they play back perfectly. Since Keynote can use DV streams, I have a solution to my problem. But can anyyone telll me why this difference should occur?

The stutter may be caused by the number of audio clips in the project. Lots more here:

iCloud TV and movies won't stream on iPad4 and iphone 5.. I get a black loading screen then it reverts back to the movie or tv show page after about to seconds any ideas? Server glitch on apples end?

FCC rules prohibit Verizon from locking down the SIM slot on new devices as part of the agreement for the wireless spectrum auction that they won. There have been numerous reports of issues with some functions from people using the Verizon iPhone 5 on other carriers.  Basic phone functionality should work, however, the Verizon and AT&T networks use incompatible LTE frequencies.
The Verizon iPhone 5 has never been advertised or otherwise officially represented as "Unlocked". Apple does not use the term "Factory Unlocked" at all.

  • Confirming no loss of quality on export "Movie to DV Stream"?

This may be a very dumb question, but before I spend a lot of time on this, I wanted to confirm there is NO loss of quality.
From a DV file (imported form my DV camera) if I choose a portion of it in Quicktime and export using the feature "Movie to DV Stream" there is no loss of quality from the original DV file right?
I am working on an iMovie project, opening the original LONG DV files into Quicktime and pulling shortened clips from them to import into iMovie, so as not to import the whole thing.
Before I spend time doing this for my entire project, I want to make sure there is no loss of quality from my original DV footage.
    Thanks for the help!

export using the feature "Movie to DV Stream" there is no loss of quality from the original DV file right?
There will be loss of quality if you export via iMovie's expert settings! The video is deinterlaced and the embedded timestamp is lost!! This is an old bug.

To preserve the original quality you must therefore always remember to export via the Full Quality preset instead.

  • Bit of a strange one.... HD Movies "Judder" when streaming to ATV2

Bit of a strange one.... all my HD Movies since the latest ATV2 update "Judder" when streaming.
It's very hard to describe but whenever there is a fast Zoom or Pan shot the image flickers for around half a second. It seems to happen every 20 seconds or so, this has only been the case since the latest update of ATV2.
I purchased Tron Legacy (HD) from the iTunes store and it occurs when playing that movie. It also happens on all my self generated HD contect.
Strangely it does not occur when streaming to my 1st Gen Apple TV, which makes me think it has nothing to do with my Home Network setup, as they are both connected via Ethernet cables.
There is only a problem with HD Streaming and ATV2.
    Any assistance would be appriciated
    Hans

The last update seems to have introduced a feature which lets the Apple TV detect the native frequency of your TV, in the UK this is probably but not always 50 Hz, this is beneficial for Home video and broadcast content in these locations where the frame rate is 25 fps. It isn't ideal for 30 fps or 24 fps content though which most of the iTMS movies and TV shows are.
Also of relevance is that some TV's make a better job of telecine/detelecine than others due to the quality of their components.
Although I don't necessarily think that Apple are responsible for the ability of 3rd party TV's, the problem could be easily overcome by allowing the user to manually select the Apple TV output as was the case with the Apple TV 1. This would allow the user to switch to 60 Hz for 30/24 fps content and 50 Hz for 25 fps content.
Some TV's have motion settings which worsen/improve the situation depending on their settings.

  • Why do movies recorded with my IPhone 4S take so long to buffer on the ATV 3 with AirPlay.  1080P movies from iTunes stream instantly.

I have a third generation apple TV and it works great with renting movies and streaming from my computer's library.  However, it is extremely slow uploading movies recorded on my Iphone 4S.  It doesn't matter if my Iphone 4s movie is streaming from my computer's library or directly from my phone it takes several minutes to buffer just a 1 minute video clip.  Is anyone else having this same issues?

Clandherr, I'm having the same issue.  Streaming a 1:43 video I recorded from my Iphone 4S took 10 minutes to Airplay onto my Apple TV 3G.  I've also experienced lag when it comes to YouTube and Vevo videos.  I've checked my Network Configuration on my Apple TV and I've got a great signal and I'm using the Apple Extreme as a wireless router with 5Mhz speed.  My internet speed is super fast as well.  Not sure what the heck is going on.

  • Export mpeg-2 movie for Internet streaming

I have QuickTime Pro 7 with the mpeg-2 playback component. My source files are in a DVD movie. I am able to play the DVD fine in Windows Media player and Real Media Player, but Quicktime is able to play only the video and there is no audio output. My objective is to convert the DVD mpeg-2 muxed videos to quicktime .mov files that are prepared for progressive playback (web streaming: fast start).
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Movie Art not showing for synced movies, only for streamed ones

Movie art is shown correctly in iTunes and while streaming, but not on the movies synced (these show poster frame). The only 'movies' that show correctly their movie art in iTunes, streaming and synced are TV Shows, which has lead me to think that the size of the .m4v has something to do. I have to do tests to determine the posible size limit, but for now all the TV Shows have a file size less than 2GB. I'll try to do some testing as soon as work allows me to get back to a normal life, (T_T)

Back again with some initial findings:
    1. Size of the file does not matters. It shows the poster frame for .m4v files of any size.
    2. Taking again into account your post, I checked every detail between the ripped TV shows and the ripped DVD movies and everything was the same except one small detail: audio settings. The ripped TV shows had an original Dolby Surround soundtrack, so I encoded them choosing the 'Dolby Surround' audio mix setting in the encoding program while with the ripped DVD movies that had an original Dolby Digital 5.1 I choose the '6 Channel Discrete' AAC 5.1 audio mix.
Noticing this difference, I tried encoding one of the previous movies that had the movie art issue using the same settings, but changing the audio mix setting from '6 Channel Discrete' AAC 5.1 to 'Dolby Pro Logic II'. Imported it to iTunes, applied the Movie cover art, synced with the Apple TV and there was the movie art in the Appke TV.
I'm gonna try again with different movies, but it seems, preliminarily, that the AAC 5.1 encoding setting does something to how the Apple TV sees the movie art in the file tags even though iTunes sees it alright.
I'll let you know what results come out of my tests.
    Thanks again.

  • Export as quicktime movie or dv stream

I've been using FCE 3.5 for quite some time and I have always exported the finished edit as a self-contained quicktime movie and then I have used Toast to compose the dvd. But I just recently realized I could do the same thing by exporting from FCE as a dv stream and then using Toast. Is one better than the other as far as end picture quality?

    Tom, Thank you very much.

  • QT7 movies won't stream

    Hi all
I have streaming set up on X 10.3 server. It has worked fine in the past (initially 1 1/2 years ago) and the files I had streaming then will still stream.
However, I have had issues with any new files I am trying to stream that have been produced with QuickTime 7 (with hinting for streaming). QTSS Publisher picks them up fine, and sets them up fine, and gives links to both the file and the PNG thumbnail. However I get a 'paused' or other connection error from the client. I cannot get the movies to play back from clients - both QT6 and 7.
Can anyone cast some light on why this may be happening?
Thanks for any help - my hair is getting thin...
    Flea
    Thanks.

Anyone? I really can't figure this out. Sorry to be a pest...

  • Rented HD movies do not stream

    Hi
i have problem streaming HD movies that I rent from the Itune store. first of all it takes forever to load, then when if finally finished to load, it only play for a few seconds then it seems to buffer for a few minutes then plays for 2 or 3 seconds then it buffers again and so on.... I took almost 1/2 hour to see 3 minutes of the movie.
Netflix works perfectly, so is XBMC, or Utube. The thing is useless.....
I resated every thing, modem ATV etc, tried again the movie, now it says "ready to play in 5 minutes" for at least the last 20 minutes..
    Very frustrated......
    Fizounet

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this atwww.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • QuickTime movies in Dreamweaver - streaming???

    Hello all,
I have inserted a .mov file into a web page but when uploaded it wants to wait for the entire movie to load before playing. I am more familiar with Flash and the ability to have a Flash movie stream to avoid this "stall" but am unsure of how to do this with a .mov file.
I have tried multiple tutorials and suggestions online about checking the "autoplay" or adding it as a parameter but nothing works. I just get an empty black box while the movie (20MB) loads in its entirety. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the QuickTime progressively download so the viewers see SOMETHING, rather than think there is nothing there and leave the site?
    Thank you!

I agree with Snakeyze.  Convert your MOV files to FLV for a better user experience.  If you don't have  CS4 Suite with Flash Encoder, there are  others you could use. RIVA flash encoder, UltraFlash and  Sorenson are just few.

  • MOV files not streaming to ATV

I copied a few videos that we took on our itouch to my PC and they come across as MOV files.  I then added these to my itunes library. They appear in the library; however, they are not streaming to the ATV.  I started testing a few things and noticed that other formats such at MPEG-4 works fine.  I took a few of the MOV files that I imported from the itouch - converted to MPEG-4 and now it works fine streaming to the ATV.
I would think that if videos are recorded as MOV files on the itouch that this would easily synch with the ATV.  Is this not the case?   Am I going to have to convert MOV files to MPEG-4 in order to stream to the ATV?

They would work on the newer model as well as having the ability to airplay directly from the iPod. I have posted the compatibility for the 1st ATV
H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
iTunes Store purchased video: 320 by 240 pixels, 640 by 480 pixels, 720 by 480 pixels (anamorphic), or high-definition 720p
MPEG-4: Up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

  • MOV files not streaming

I have a few MOV files in my iTunes library. Along with these MOV files are several movies purchased from iTunes. I stream my movies and music to my ATV (photos are synched so I can view thumbnails etc..)
From my ATV, I am able to access all of the purchased movies but I can't access the MOV files - again, the MOV files are appearing under 'Movies' in iTunes and I'm able to play them from iTunes without a problem --- just not visable on my ATV 'My Movies' menu.

do the files fall within the limits of video (below).. play in iTunes and Quicktime do not guarantee the file will play on appleTV.. appleTV has limits on files since they need to be access via streaming over wireless in many cases, so it makes sense to set some limits on files size, data rate etc..

  • Rented movie will not stream

I am using my iPad and I use it to rent a movie the movie begins to download but I can not get it to stream to me. I can get movies I rent. On my desktop to stream. Do I have To wait for the entire movie to download to my iPad before I can view it?

    Hi,
but I can not get it to stream to me.
Try restarting your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
After you restart the iPad try viewing a rented movie. Keep in mind you have 30 days to decide when you want to watch the movie and you have 24 hrs to finish viewing the movie from the time you started. Once the movie period is over the movie will be deleted from your iPad automatically.
Also, check to make sure you do not have any other apps running in the background before viewing a rental. In the iTunes app store on your iPad click the Home button twice. All your apps will appear at the bottom of the iPad window.
And try resetting network settings. Tap Settings in your Home screen then tap General / Reset / Reset Network Settings. Now try viewing a movie.
