Movie would not stream to ATV

There is a few DVD that I ripped to be able to listen to them on my ATV. They always work fine. However I have an issue with the last few movies that I have ripped
- They work perfectly fine in iTunes
- They work perfectly fine if I stream them to my iPad 2 using Home Sharing
- They keep buffering and NEVER play when I stream them to my ATV using Home Sharing.
Why would those movies works everywhere else besides my ATV?
Thanks!

In general though if a movie file doesn't play it's useful to inspect the file info for bitrate and other parameters to see if it's within AppleTV2 specs - apps like MediaInfo and VideoSpec on a Mac can help with this.
It may not be the encoding however as AppleTV often says it cannot play the file if it's listed but actually incompatible for some reason.
Assuming other titles still play consider itunes library issues - it can get garbled-  maybe try the file from a different itunes library in same or different user account.

  • MOV files not streaming to ATV

I copied a few videos that we took on our itouch to my PC and they come across as MOV files.  I then added these to my itunes library. They appear in the library; however, they are not streaming to the ATV.  I started testing a few things and noticed that other formats such at MPEG-4 works fine.  I took a few of the MOV files that I imported from the itouch - converted to MPEG-4 and now it works fine streaming to the ATV.
I would think that if videos are recorded as MOV files on the itouch that this would easily synch with the ATV.  Is this not the case?   Am I going to have to convert MOV files to MPEG-4 in order to stream to the ATV?

They would work on the newer model as well as having the ability to airplay directly from the iPod. I have posted the compatibility for the 1st ATV

    Hi
I am having problems downloading 2 purchased movies. Cars 2 & Toy Story. I had it on My iPad, then after a while the movies would not play. I went to the apple store and they deleted it and told me that all I need to do is download it again. I tried what they suggested at the apple store, but I am still not successful. It continues to tell me there is a download error. Please help! Need these movies for my 3 year old!

  • MOV files not streaming

I have a few MOV files in my iTunes library. Along with these MOV files are several movies purchased from iTunes. I stream my movies and music to my ATV (photos are synched so I can view thumbnails etc..)
From my ATV, I am able to access all of the purchased movies but I can't access the MOV files - again, the MOV files are appearing under 'Movies' in iTunes and I'm able to play them from iTunes without a problem --- just not visable on my ATV 'My Movies' menu.

do the files fall within the limits of video (below).. play in iTunes and Quicktime do not guarantee the file will play on appleTV.. appleTV has limits on files since they need to be access via streaming over wireless in many cases, so it makes sense to set some limits on files size, data rate etc..

  • Problem....Movies are not streaming -- seeing QT Logo

    Hello,
I am having a huge problem with my websites. I created two sites with movies ("shared" to iDisk from iMovie) and they worked fine. When I clicked on the site, the movie would instantly start to stream in the player window.
However, for some reason after I created my third site and tried to add those same movie files to a movie page, the movies will not play until they are downloaded.
When you visit the page all you see is the Quicktime Logo, nothing happens for about two minutes until the file is completely downloaded. This is a sharp contrast to the other two sites that use the movies. When you log onto those pages, the movies immediately play in the window while they download.
This is a huge problem...can anyone give me some information?

Suggest you also crosspost in the Safari Forums just in case it's a browser problem.
Might as well kill 2 birds w/one stone.
Sorry, I do not use Safari.

  • Rented HD movies do not stream

    Hi
i have problem streaming HD movies that I rent from the Itune store. first of all it takes forever to load, then when if finally finished to load, it only play for a few seconds then it seems to buffer for a few minutes then plays for 2 or 3 seconds then it buffers again and so on.... I took almost 1/2 hour to see 3 minutes of the movie.
Netflix works perfectly, so is XBMC, or Utube. The thing is useless.....
I resated every thing, modem ATV etc, tried again the movie, now it says "ready to play in 5 minutes" for at least the last 20 minutes..
    Very frustrated......

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this atwww.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • Rented movie will not stream

I am using my iPad and I use it to rent a movie the movie begins to download but I can not get it to stream to me. I can get movies I rent. On my desktop to stream. Do I have To wait for the entire movie to download to my iPad before I can view it?

    Hi,
but I can not get it to stream to me.
Try restarting your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
After you restart the iPad try viewing a rented movie. Keep in mind you have 30 days to decide when you want to watch the movie and you have 24 hrs to finish viewing the movie from the time you started. Once the movie period is over the movie will be deleted from your iPad automatically.
Also, check to make sure you do not have any other apps running in the background before viewing a rental. In the iTunes app store on your iPad click the Home button twice. All your apps will appear at the bottom of the iPad window.
And try resetting network settings. Tap Settings in your Home screen then tap General / Reset / Reset Network Settings. Now try viewing a movie.

  • AirPlay Audio Does Not Stream to ATV from MacBook Pro

For some reason, AirPlay will occasionally strop streaming audio to the Apple TV, usually after sleep. This has been a problem from day one, and I expected an update to fix it, but it's still a problem.
    It goes like this:
I select Apple TV from the menu bar
The screen mirrors to the Apple TV
I start playing a video, but the audio plays through the MacBook speakers
I try to switch the audio via system prefs, but while it shows the Apple TV/AirPlay, but I am unable to select it.
I then have to restart my Mac to get audio streaming over AirPlay
    So what's going on here?
My MacBook is the mid-2011 13" model maxed out with 8GB RAM.
Is it an Apple TV problem? Is it the MacBook Pro? Or is this a bug for AirPlay under mountain Lion?

    Hey Harry,
I was able to get rid of the skipping with apple's help.  In my case it was the router... so I just disconnected the coaxial and power cable for like 1 min and plugged it back in and it started to work perfectly again.  The tech said that if it continued to be an issue I should get a new router from the ISP.  Hope this helps!  Let me know if you need any other info.

  • OTA HDTV Recorded, Converted, and Streamed to ATV ... Results!!!

Well, I just tried HD streaming and it worked flawlessly ... although it takes a bit of effort. Here is how I did it ...
    1. I recorded an OTA 720p HDTV broadcast using my El Gato Hybrid;
    2. I exported the program from EyeTV 2 as a Quicktime 1280x720 HD file;
    3. I then opened the exported QT file in Quicktime Pro and exported again again using "Movie to ATV" (I had to do this because the original QT file would not stream);
    4. I dropped the converted file in to iTunes, and streamed it to the Apple TV playing on my 44" 720P HDTV.
Final Streamable File Specs: 960 x 540 ... I am not sure why QT Pro converted the original 1280x720 file to the lower res, but it did and the file streamed and looked GREAT.
Results: I must say ... IT LOOKED SPECTACULAR. I am a bit surprised given the low-end specs of the ATV. No dropped frames, no glitches, no hiccups. If they offer HD movies on iTunes, they are going to look GREAT!
The Downside: It took FOREVER to convert the 4 minute HD QT file using QTPro.

Just an FYI ... the quality fell somewhere between OTA HDTV quality and DVD quality. I would say just about the same as cable or sat HDTV quality.

  • Video Audio will not stream via express

Hi - Using iTunes, I am able to stream music and podcast audio to my Apple Hi-Fi speakers via Airport Express. However, VidoeCast, TV Shows and purchased movies will not stream... am I doing something wrong? Is there a workaround?
    hevans

Streaming movie audio only is quite different from streaming both audio and video. The problem comes in the prebuffering that's necessary to keep the audio from skipping, which makes the audio lag behind the video. To keep them in sync, the AirTunes protocol would have to be considerably more complex: iTunes would have to be able to advance the video ahead of the audio by a predictable amount to ensure that they don't fall out of sync. I can see Apple's point for not supporting it since the Express is intended as an audio device and was never intended for the audio associated with video.

Try turning IPv6 ON in your network preferences - this is helping SOME people with this problem. It won't help you at all if your network router doesn't do IPv6.
To turn on: go to Network Preferences, select the interface you use, under teh TCP/IP tab click 'Configure IPv6', and choose 'Automatic'. Save changes.

  • Storing and streaming movie content from desktop to ATV

Newb questions: 1) If I purchase and store a bunch of movies in iTunes on my desktop computer, I can set these movies not to sync to my ATV or my iPod, right? [I don't particularly want to fill up the hard drive on my 40GB ATV with movies, but I really do not want to fill my 16GB Touch so full of movies that I have no room for adding songs.] 2) What if I run out of hard drive space on the desktop system? Can I add an external USB hard drive to the desktop system just for storage of movies and still stream movies from iTunes to my ATV? [And if so, how?]
    Thanks. -- JC

You don't have to sync anything to the ATV if you don't want to. However, you must leave iTunes open on that machine if you want the ATV to see it to be able to stream.
You may find that setting it to sync only like 5 most recent unwatched movies, etc. The Unwatched option is nice as it limits what gets put on the ATV and once you watch it, it gets removed (though you can still play via streaming).
Thus if the computer is off or iTunes closed, your ATV will have the most recent stuff on it (which most likely is what you want to watch).
As for external drive, easy to do. I have a 1TB external USB drive on my computer. I have iTunes pointing to it as to where the library is stored (you can set that in iTunes preferences). Thus all my media is on my external drive.
Don't think of the ATV seeing your hard drives. The ATV ONLY sees your iTunes app. What your iTunes can see on your computer is what the ATV can see. So where ever you put the files, as long as iTunes can see it and play it, then the ATV can.

  • Rented movie not streaming after pausing

I rented a movie and had been watching for about 5 minutes.  I had to pause the movie and now I am not able to get the movie to start streaming again.  I get the message "Ready to Play in x hours x miniutes" and the moview simply will not start streaming again.  All software is up to date, my internet speed is fine, I have unplugged the AppleTV..  all the things level 1 support would tell you.  How do you get the movie to start streaming again?

each time I go back to the movie and resume, the time bar shows that the movie is continuing to advance.... like it is playing but I am not seeing it.  I went back to the main menu and watched a trailer of another movie to see if that would flush the current rental but it did not.  perhaps if I wait for 2 hours which is how long the movie is.... perhaps I can replay it then.  There seems to be ALOT of issues with this streaming issue that have been out there for several years.  Why hasn't apple addressed the issue?

  • Apple TV not streaming all iTunes movies

I have been using ATV successfully now for about 8 months. In the last 60 days, ATV only recognizes about half of the new movies I add to iTunes. I use Handbrake in exactly the same way on each movie but when I stream my iTunes library to ATV, it only recognizes a portion of them.
Oddly, I can play all of the movies in iTunes, Quicktime and even my iPod.
This problem has been driving my nuts for 2 months now. any advice is greatly apprecaited.

    Hello!
I have a similar or the same problem... Rip all my movies with Handbrake Tv setting!
But I have different movies that doesn't stream at different days... And some days it works fine!
Here's a solution for you... When a movie doesn't stream (because it says that Apple Tv doesn't know the file) I start syncing the movie instead! But you don't have to sync the whole movie, just start it for some seconds... Then I try to start the movie again at the appleTV and now it works fine!!
Seems that it knows the file when you syncronising the movie but not always when you stream it?? Weard... Cause I can sync all my movies but from time to time I can't watch some movies that isn't on the harddrive on the ATV.. But try to sync it for a few seconds and then start it even if it isn't finnished syncing!!
Hope you understand me and good luck!!
