Movies added to iTunes won't appear, but music added to iTunes does....

When I drag and drop movies into iTunes, I see the ghost outline and the blue plus, but once I drop it, nothin happens.  No error messages, no failed attempt indication of any sort.  I have also tried the Add File To Library method, but same result.  These are .MP4 files.
Here's the head scratching part:  I was using a PC laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate with the latest version of iTunes, with an external hard drive, on which the music and movie files were stored.  Everything would add to iTunes with no problem, and play accordingly, across the network as well.  I set up a tower PC running Windows 7 Ultimate with the latest version of iTunes, and connected the exact same external drive, with the exact same files.  Now, I get the above problem when I try to add movies.  Keep in mind, using the new setup, music can be added and plays fine, just not movies.
Things I've tried or confirmed:
- Made a copy of a movie, placed it on the INTERNAL hard drive on the tower, then added it to iTunes.  Added and played perfectly.
- Changed iTunes Media Folder location to the correct folder on the external drive
- Deleted and reinstalled iTunes
- Signed in and out of iTunes with my Apple ID
- Tower PC is fully updated and has no other issues
- Used different USB ports on the tower (which ports work for other USB devices)
- Plugged the external drive back into the original laptop, and movie files add fine
- Endless reboots after all above fix attempts
While some of the above fix attempts may seem silly, this IS Apple software, and many of which solutions came from Apple forums.  Trying anything at this point.  Side note:  Hey Apple!  How 'bout some error logs of some sort?!  Or maybe an error message??  It's ok to admit when something doesn't work, ya know.  And a log or error message would greatly expedite the troublshooting process.
Tell me someone out there has a solution for this.  I set up the new computer solely for the purpose of being a home media server, and this happens.  UGH.  Oh, and, yes, I'm aware that this seems to be a problem with the new tower, but saying that doesn't help me.  Throw me a bone here, I really want to fix this weekend-consuming issue.   Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh wow.  I think I figured it out.  I had not yet disabled User Account Control on this installation of W7U.  After trying to delete a file just now, and receiving that good ol' cancel or allow type message, the light bulb went on in my head.
***After disabling UAC and restarting the machine, I am able to add movie files from the external hard drive, via drag and drop or by File>Add File To Library.***
All weekend long, and I figure it out 10 mins after posting.  Well, thanks for listening, and I hope this helps someone as frustrated as I was.

  • 5G iPod won't appear on my desktop or iTunes using USB 2.0

My new 5G iPod won't appear on my desktop or iTunes when I have it connected to a new 2.0 USB card in my G4 733. I know the USB card works because my old iPods work through it. My new iPod only will work through the old USB 1.0 port. I've reset it (with it attached to the computer) and done all that Apple says to do.

I am having a similar problem with my Nano. Shows up in itunes, but freezes up under USB 2.0. Other devices work fine on the card, usb 1.1 has no problems, and if I update music on my nano on the 1.1 port, and then plug it into the 2.0 port I can still update Calenders onto the iPod via iTunes.
Also, i applied the ipod updater and since this was happening under Panther, upgrading to Tiger made no difference, so I can't see this being a software error.

From your statements above, it sounds like you never tried to burn a CD for at least the first year that you owned the laptop, as it had a one year warranty on it. While you might have used it frequently to install software,  play DVDs, Blu-Ray disks, etc, that's unclear from your statements. Nonetheless, it might just be dirty-dusty. So, before deleting-uninstalling any software, and given they're cheap, try a CD-DVD Cleaner Disk first and see if that resolves your problems.

As long as you don't need all the bells and whistles of the iTunes Store such as Ping, and don't need to sync an iOS device running iOS 4.x, then iTunes 9.2.1 should work for you. It should be available via Software Update, but if not, you can still get it here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056
but it would be best to upgrade your Mac to Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, since it's probable that eventually the iTunes Store will no longer support iTunes 9.x.
    Regards.
P.S. Mac OS X 10.4 was discontinued three and a half years ago, so yes, it's getting rather long in the tooth. Cheers.

The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.

  • I have changed my itunes account email address but apps linked to itunes have not updated email address on iphone 4

I have changed my itunes account email address but apps linked to itunes have not updated to the new email address on iphone 4

    Welcome to the Apple community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.

  • ITunes won't open but there's no error message...

    ...it just won't open.
I just updated to iTunes 7 because of an issue I'm trying to correct with my iPod. I believe I've had this problem with iTunes 7 before, and the last time I ended up reverting to iTunes 6.
When I manage to successfully install iTunes 7, I click on the desktop icon to open it and it looks like it's about to load, but then nothing happens. So I try opening it from the start ment and still nothing. Then I try opening it by trying to play an mp3 through it, and still nothing.
I really hope someone can help me with this, because if I end up needing a new iPod I'm gonna need the newest iTunes for it, I'm sure.

Help! This is happening to me too, and I can't find the fix, if there is one. I just downloaded the newest update (wish I hadn't). It took a few tries to open it, but it worked. The second time, it didn't open. NO error message. I've tried every way of opening a program, and nothing happens.
    (1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC?
    NO NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2006
    (2) try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)
IT SAYS IT IS LOADING... FOR OVER 15 MINUTES
    (3) reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?
ITUNES.EXE DOES SHOW UP IN THE PROCESSES TAB AND STAYS THERE
THE ONLY OTHER ODD THING IN THE PAST YEAR, IS THAT 2 WEEKS AGO, A WINDOW CAME UP ASKING IF I WANTED TO RECONFIGURE WHAT STARTS WHEN I START WINDOWS. I CHOSE THE WRONG THING BECAUSE NOW THERE ARE TONS OF EXTRANEOUS PROGRAMS RUNNING ON MY COMPUTER.
    HELP!!??!!

  • Update 7.43 to 7.6 - iTunes won't start  but have iTunes.exe Task

    Hi There!
I updated my Company-Computer from iTunes 7.4.3 to 7.6 and now iTunes won't start.
All it does is: It shows the waitcursor for a few seconds and I get a Task in the Taskmanager that says iTunes.exe
But it won't show the EULA where I am asked to accept Apples Terms.
I updated my Laptop too and that works fine.
I checked all the Services that where running (on both systems) and they where identical.
What else could prevent the EULA window from appering? And if I acceped the EULA would iTunes start ok?
Has anyone had the same problem and what could I do?
So far I deinstalled iTunes and everything else (AppleLike) and cleaned the registry of all iTunes and Quicktime branches. After a reboot I installed it again - so far it didn't help.
Has anyone an idea what I could try else (reinstalling windows ist out of the question since it is may workplace PC; everything else works fine.
    Thanks in advance
    René

    Hey Everyone,
I am going to add to the long list of outrage. I JUST purchased (like literally...9 hours ago...) an 8GB iPod Touch and after installation I ran into the EXACT same problem. Since I am a new owner this is the first time I have iTunes installed on my computer. So of course I downloaded the most recent version (as instructed). Like everyone else in this thread is saying, you try to open up the iTunes application but the GUI doesn't appear at all. Apparently "something" is running because its process is active in the Task manager but there is nothing on my screen! What's the problem here??? I've done everything short of reinstalling XP (thats actually kind of unnecessary as you shouldn't have to uninstall an entire OS just to get an application to work...update files or clean the registry--sure...uninstall then reinstall--no..). Yes, obviously this is an Apple product so there won't be many (if any) conflicts when connecting to an Apple device (like a Macbook). But seriously guys....seriously???
What is more outrageous to me, besides the fact that this is a widespread problem...is the fact that this is a CURRENT problem that has YET to be even identified or rectified by anyone from Apple. I went on this forum, thinking that this was some known occurrence that happened maybe months ago and could be fixed immediately--but I am viewing messages from this week and even TODAY!
This is absolutely unacceptable. Who needs to be contacted concerning conflict resolution with Apple hardware? Or does Apple wish to have another iPhone-esque debacle like a few months ago?
Not to be rude, but I am not the average user that knows nothing about software and/or hardware (as I'm sure alot of others are knowledgeable). I am not "that person" that doesn't plug in the computer into the outlet then wonders why its not working. I don't mean to come here with an air of anger but this is truly ridiculous...lets get the ball rolling on a fix or start drafting up those $299.99 refunds...

When you say "her email address" do you mean that you set up a separate Apple ID for her using her email address as her Apple ID? If so, was it ever verified by Apple? Did she get the email verification?

  • Shared music won't appear on Windows 8.1 iTunes

My Gateway Windows laptop can share music with a Mac, but it cannot receive shared music that is shared from the same computer.
This situation involves three computers: My laptop, my family's desktop, and my father's laptop. My laptop has Windows 8.1, while the latter two have Mac OS X. All three have the latest version of iTunes. I have my laptop and my family's desktop set up share music via Music Sharing (not home sharing). My laptop can share with the desktop computer just fine. The desktop can share with my father's laptop without any problems, meaning that there is nothing wrong with the desktop. However, the shared music from the desktop does not appear on the shared music section of the laptop, no matter how close in proximity the laptop is to the desktop. Therefore, there is something wrong with my laptop's ability to receive shared music.
I should also mention that I have a firewall that is managed by Norton Internet Security. The firewall allows the iTunes.exe file through. Any ideas? Is it simply the fact that windows can share music to a mac, but not the other way around? Or is it a Windows 8.1 problem?

    Never mind, problem solved.

  • ITunes won't open, but opens under other users.

I've tried re-installing it and it still doesn't work. I tried it under a guest user and it opened. However, under my administrator user account it fails to open. Any ideas? Oh, also I've tried starting it in Safe Mode or whatever and it still didn't work.

You've tried the isolation steps in this article, now you should try the User-specific troubleshooting suggestions.
    User-specific troubleshooting
If your issue only happens in one particular user account, some of the suggestions below may resolve the issue. Before proceeding however, you'll need to make hidden files and folder visible in Windows. Follow steps 1-5 in iTunes for Windows in Windows Vista doesn't open after upgrading.
    Remove iTunes Preference files
Some of the files that iTunes uses to store settings and preferences may be unusable and cause issues. iTunes has two folders where preferences are saved. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The location for the two preference folders are:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Create a new iTunes Library
Hold the Shift key while opening iTunes. You will be prompted to Choose iTunes Library.
Choose Create Library to create a new one. In the following window you will be prompted to select a location to save the new iTunes Library.
Click Save. iTunes will open the newly created library. After closing iTunes, you can always select the original library by using the Shift key when opening iTunes.
    Recreate your iTunes Library
If you iTunes library has become unusable, rebuilding it as described in How to recreate your iTunes Library and Playlists may resolve the issue.
Check for content files with issues
Sometimes a certain audio file can cause iTunes to quit unexpectedly or stop responding when it is analyzing gapless playback information. To determine which file(s) may be cause the issue follow the steps below:
    Quit iTunes.
    Navigate to the iTunes folder:
    Windows Vista - C:\users\username\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7 - C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
Move the iTunes Library.itl file to your desktop
Open iTunes. You should not see any content in iTunes.
From the File menu, choose Add Folder to Library.
Navigate to the folder where your music is located. Typically this is
    Windows Vista - C:\users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
    Windows 7 - C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Note: This folder may be called iTunes Music if it was created with iTunes 8 or earlier. Choose an artist, album, or single song to add the to the library
Wait for iTunes to successfully add the songs to your library and perform the gapless playback scan.
If successful, continue adding back more songs to your library.
If there is an issue with one of your files, you will notice your issue reappear after you attempt to add it to the library. At this point you should repeat these steps being careful not to add the files that cause the issue to occur.

  • ITunes won't sync but iPod working...?

I downloaded the most recent iTunes and tried to sync my iPod (an 80 gig with video, fyi). iTunes said it needed to restore, that the iPod was corrupt, etc.; I did as it said and waited for the iPod to restart... just to have iTunes say it needed to restore again. After repeating the process a few times I unplugged the iPod and found that it was asking for a language and that it showed the menu options and the games worked, but because it had been restored there was no music on it. Now iTunes won't sync it but the iPod itself is turning on and doesn't show any music (except for, you know, the lack of music.)
It is important to know, I guess, that my iPod hasn't been working perfectly lately; she's been freezing up, won't play some songs, working sluggishly... Last night she was particularly diifficult and after restarting a few times refused to play more than one or two songs (before freezing.)
I can't think of any time I've dropped her from anymore than a few inches off whatever surface, and every time she was in her case so I doubt that had anything to do with it...
Can anyone help? I thought it might just be a problem with the new iTunes so I don't want to send her in for service just yet, but the sooner she's fixed, the better.
Thank you ver much in advance!

    Hi there,
Have you tried the 5 R's that Apple recommend trying?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303940
It sounds like you could do with going through them - make sure that you have the very latest iTunes software before starting.
    I hope this helps.

note: before it would just quit unexpectedly but that problem stopped. now it just doesn't appear.

  • My old computer crashed and I imported my music to my new computer. Now iTunes won't sync the music in my library to my iPhone. How can I fix this?

I hadn't synced my iPhone yet to my new computer after buying some more music. When I went to sync, with that computer, it asked me to delete all the old music that had been from the old computer. I had been through this before with no problems so I had my phone's music wiped and was ready to resync my entire library. Everytime I try, though, it only completes the back up step, and the determing which songs to sync step, but it won't actually sync the music and just says it's done.

Your iPad is married to its now deceased old computer. This is the reason for the necessity of a backup for your computer, which your iPad is not.
Your iTunes Store and App Store purchases will not be lost. Just don't "erase and sync" when you sync your iPad to your new Mac:
If you want to move the iTunes Store purchases on your device to the new computer, choose "Transfer Purchases." The new computer must be set up with your iTunes Store account and authorized to play your iTunes Store purchases in order to transfer your iTunes Store purchases.
    Read this for more information:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
