In AfterEffects when choosing an output module and that module be ProRes or 10 Bit Uncompressed,
when trying to color manage the file, there is a fine line called
'This Codec Does Not Support Output Profile'
You can find it int he Color Management Pane of the output module....
Funny thing is - That Profile Embedding IS support by:#
Apple's Compressor and THE CODEC 4444 AND UnCompressed

AND THAT IS WHY THERE IS A COLOR SHIFT...........

Now, in after effects you wont notice the shift. But ALL mac and PC users using quicktime to watch YOUR movies
are going to be looking at a movie with a different look than you thought it WOULD be... Courtesy of adobe ;-)
Jokes aside, Adobe.... It seems as if this one is on you to fix... Apple's Compressor has NO problems. And other encoders are also preserving those values.
Now... Let us assume that I encode in compressor... Looks are matching 100% that of the original source. All it takes to mess that up is ONE
roundtrip to after effects, premiere pro or Media Encoder. That is if I wanna maintain my initial choice of transcodec - in my case 4444 or 10bit Uncomp.
I could of course export to animation and then use compressor AGAIN to transcode to my format of choice... But in the long run I think that will become tedious.
Perhaps you could assign a few engineers on this one and in the future spend MORE time on living up to the name PRO(The most misused word in the software business) instead of wasting time generating new Application icons for your apps....

I have been testing codecs for a long long looooooong time. My criterion(s) are:
1) Image Quality and that through multiple encoding generations and color grading
THEEEN
a looooong way down the road
2) Performance
BTW - I find that working with files less compressed and thus HUGE is much better. Hard drives are so cheap that one can build himself an 8 Disk RAID0 and that takes care of everything. In PPRO I can cut real time in FulRes with an uncompressed codec with the processors maxing at 3% while the H264 editing sequence will stutter like a drunken wasp and maxing the CPUs at 63%.... Go figure...
ProRes 4444's impeccable imageQuality:performance ratio, is unbeaten.
Especially on H264 material like that of the Canon5D. You might say if the source is 4:2:0 why bother upping it to 4444... Well in theory perhaps
it is overkill. But rather than reading in theoretical white papers I conduct my own tests. And the end results are (REALITY) and way different from what theory states. TO anyone reading this. DONT believe ANYTHING you read about codec nor what I am saying.... DO YOUR OWN TESTING and judge for yourself. Problem is that you have to do 100's and 100's of transcodings with ONE source to various destinations with lost of grading and transcoding generation. THEN you have to keep track of your tests and THEN compare them. It takes WEEKs. But it is well worth while it. In my case... I start with a Canon5DMKII H264 movies. Transcode it to PRORES4444 then I do LOTS of compositing and re-encoding then lots of color grading etc etc etc. Then I export back to H264 - and the end result is STUNNING has NO artifacts and is adorable to look at. Not so with at least 6 other codecs claiming to be top-notch....
Sure Mylenium, the world would NOT end with PR4444 not in it... BUT the WORLD has ALREADY decided that it WANTED ProRes4444 in it. It is growing and that every day..........
Had the codec not been so darn excellent - it would NOT have been used. Period.

Movie app update problem in 8.0.A.0.4

the latest update of movie app 8.0.A.0.4 has some options missing that is the expand option for the playing video in full screen mode.please fix this problem soon with an other update

App Menu Problem with WMFS

I recently started trying WMFS and I am encountering a issue where it requires me to click a lot of times on entries inside the Applications Menu to open a terminal (urxvt) and the program never opens. The only way I can run the terminal is through the launcher by writing urxvt directly. That only happens to entries inside of the applications menu because on the root menu I can click on the shutdown command and it runs just fine with one click. Any one have a solution for this issue that keeps bothering me?

Audio playback problem with HP mediasmart DVD player

Hi I have just set up my computer and linked it to my tv with a HDMI lead, I have been able to toggle between my pc speakers and my tv speakers on programmes such as windows media player and other HP mediasmart programmes but when I use HP mediasmart DVD player - a DVD will allow me to change from pc speakers to HDMI but I cannot change to HDMI (TV) sound when playing a Blu-Ray disk. I have tried changing my defult to HDMI and its just not working when playing BLU-RAY disks. anyone got any ideas? i have all the latest updates (running windows 7)

I have a ThinkPad T61p which I got one year ago. About one month ago the following problem suddenly appeared: When I want to play a DVD with WinDVD, I get the message "no valid Drive/Disc Found". When I eject and then start the DVD again, it takes about 4 minutes to start the DVD. Everything is very slow, the movie is croppy and I can often hear the laser head moving back and forward. I don't have any problems with other media like CDs or self printed DVDs with no region code and copy protection. I also have no problems with another DVD drive of the same kind (I have a DVD/CD-ROM drive). I tried to solve the problem with the troubleshooter (I have Windows XP), but nothing helped. DVD Playback problem with H/w accel on Ti4200

Hello folks,
I have a problem with DVD playback using WinDVD Platinum on my MSI 128Mb GF4 Ti4200 (MS-8700). When I play a DVD with hardware acceleration enabled I get a sort of ghosting or delayed flash photography effect similar to that which gives headlights trails. This doesn't occur with the Detonator 40.72 drivers
or MSI 41.07 drivers but occurs with
the NVidia 41.09s, 43.00s and now 43.45 drivers under WinXP SP1. The problem only occurs with hardware acceleration enabled and has happened with both DX8.1 and 9.0. I didn't have this problem with the 41.09s under Win2k SP3.
Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution.

Sound is fine its just the picture that has the problem but I have narrowed it down further by downloading WinDVD Tweaker. If I disable DxVA but leave hardware decode and colour selected the problem isn't present. Therefore I suspect something has corrupted my DxVA drivers however as I originally had 8.1 installed and then installed 9.0 in an attempt to fix this I don't think a reinstall of DX will solve the problem.
Any ideas.

App Store problem with update???

I have a problem with the app store. I have to update the application badge twitter. Twitter is not installed. When I click on update in the User ID field is already entered an email address that is strange to me. When i enter information for my ID and pass, i get an error on the app store. I can not install the tweeter nor do I delete a notification of the update.

FCP External Video Playback problem with HDV

Hey all. I just got the Canon HV30 HD camcorder and it is excellent. I am able to import the HDV footage to FCP no problem. I'm recording in 24p mode by the way.
I can't seem to get playback from the timeline back to the Canon so I can see the edited footage on the Camcorder's LCD screen. I've tried everything. All the settings seem to be grayed out. How am I suppose to get my edited footage from the computer back to tape? Help is much appreciated!

I'm not the person at our facility that does this, but we do it all the time. However we are using the Sony HDV decks, 25U or something like that.
I have also seen the stuttering video you described, I'm not sure why it does this on some projects and not others, it is very random. When it does stutter I render out a complete self contained Quicktime and then print to tape from that. However, I occasionally still have this problem with that? But it does seem to help more often than not.

Sigmatel 9205 - Problems with audio codec in Windows XP

Does anyone have a working solution to using IDT Sigmatel STAC 9205 Audio Codec in Windows XP. I have Dell Lat. D531, D630, D830 and XPS M1330 (the D531 and XPS came with VISTA pre-installed - we don't support, so I formatted and installed Windows XP). The problem is that I cannot, for the life of me, get the Sigmatel driver to install. Even on the machines that came with Windows XP (we routinely format the Dell OEM OS and replace with our volume license XP OS) the driver won't install. I even repaired the OS installation with the OEM (Dell) version and still the driver will. not. install..... This is a very recent problem and I have at least 15 laptops that I can't get the integrated sound card to work (when I go to install the driver the message is basically the component you are trying to install is not present on this system). I have been 'working' with Dell Tech Support (Gold and otherwise) to no avail. One tech sent a replacement hard drive imaged with a working driver -- however, she sent a VISTA imaged hard drive...I explained that we don't support VISTA prior to her sending the drive. One tech is having the motherboard replaced (today). I'll see how that goes. This driver is the kiss of death unless dell with supply a pc card as a replacement, I have tried everything I know to do and Dell Tech support knows to do. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Tony, some posters have reported that the XP drivers for the Vostro 1500 will work for the M1330.

However before installing any Sigmatel driver after an OS installation you should follow this order of driver installation:
a. Install Dell Notebook System Software R154270 (click the + sign next to System Utilities). Restart.
b. Next install the Intel Mobile Chipset driver 153997 (click the + sign next to Chipset). Restart.
c. Finally re-install the Sigmatel audio driver R158235 (click the + sign next to Audio).
Some v1500 users have reported that they had to "uninstall an unknown PCI device in Device manager first , then install the driver normally".
Rarely there will still be a problem with the installation at this point (in XP). In those cases follow this tip from forum member rpilT2005: check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find the driver.
A previous poster was able to get his audio working by following the above instructions more or less He said that after installing the Chipset driver he next uninstalled the unknown PCI device. He let Windows look for a new driver but he said he had to point it to the folder with the driver. Then he wrote, "Xp still said that an error occurred and the device may not work properly, but it did work fine and I also don't have a yellow question mark..." I know this is confusing.

Hi! Missing disk utility apps and problems with external disc

Hi everybody! after installing snow leopard, as a way to get to lion, I dont have the disk utility apps.
Besides Im having a lot of problems with an external new Toshiba 1T disc that I try to use with Time machine cause I daily receive the OSX msg CANT REPAIR THE DISK REFORMAT IT!

Before you go to Lion, just a reminder. I know you recently moved up to Snow Leopard. Be sure that everything you were running in Leopard, and now in SL, will work for you in Lion.
Remember, Rosetta and all PPC apps are gone (Word 2004, some versions of PhotoShop etc) Check the compatibility list before you ditch SL.
As far as your Disk Utility problem, how hard is it to reinstall SL?
I've taken a screen shot of my Utilities folder to show you what you are looking for. The Utilities folder as mentioned above is in the Aplication Folder (or you may have pulled it out to the side bar as well, in which case there will be an icon and the word Utilities in Places in the side bar.

Update on playback problems with AIR 3.5 on desktop

Adobe has received reports that desktop AIR 3.5 users of BBC iPlayer and Digital Theatre Desktop Player are no longer able to play or download video after upgrading from AIR 3.4 or earlier. Specifically, the user will attempt to play the video and will get a black video window or will fail to successfully download videos. Adobe is working on a permanent resolution for the issue in AIR 3.5. In parallel, Adobe is working closely with the BBC and Digital Theatre to offer support and investigate interim resolutions. We will publish an update as soon as we have released the fix.
In the meantime, the work-around for affected users is to migrate back to AIR 3.4. The following link provides instructions for determining the version of AIR currently installed on your machine. If you believe you may be experiencing a video playback problem caused by migrating to AIR 3.5, your video service should be able to tell you whether they believe going back to AIR 3.4 or earlier will resolve the problem. If instructed to do so, the following steps here can help you uninstall your current version and locate and install a specific AIR version for installation on your Windows or Mac PC.
Please feel free to report your issue or reproducible steps here and we will alert you once a fix has been put in place. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued support.

Please note that I have followed the BBC's instructions to uninstall Air v3.5 and iPlayer Desktop and then install Air v3.4 and iPlayer Desktop, but contrary to what they and you say, this has made no difference - iPlayer still can't download programmes to iPlayer Desktop and it still can't find the programmes I had previously downloaded. I surmise that maybe uninstalling wasn't enough and that some fault remains that still prevents the programme from working. I am not an IT expert, so I would need more comprehensive instructions to fix this.
You may like to note that I downloaded Air v3.5 several days before iPlayer Desktop failed, and I am pretty sure that I used iPlayer Desktop in between times. After it failed, it was very reluctant to even open, let alone do anything when, after repeated instructions, it finally did open.
You may also like to note that I began to experience a ridiculous amount of buffering on radio playback straight from the BBC website before and after iPlayer Desktop failed. I don't think it can have been a broadband issue, as I could stream both TV and radio live and I could stream TV playback with no problem. Since reverting to Air v3.4, I have had no buffering. I doubt whether this is a coincidence.
I have an Acer 5745PG with Windows 7, Intel Core i3-350M, NVIDIA GeForce 310M and I use Firefox.

Playback Problem with Tascam Interface

Hello,
I am new to Logic, and I seem to be having a playback problem. After a quick search, I realize this question is asked a lot, but I have yet to find a solution that has worked. I am using a Tascam US-144 USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI interface with Logic Pro 8. Logic is recognizing the interface, allows me to record, and even displays the wave forms that my microphone picks up. However, I cannot monitor while I am recording or play the recording back after saving it. I've attempted to do this with the built-in iMac speakers and headphones. I've tried various output combinations, read the manual front to back, but have yet to find a valid solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In the About Logic window it says it's version 8.0.0. I checked Preferences->Audio->Devices->Core Audio. The"Enabled" box is selected, and the US-144 is selected as the device. There doesn't seem to be a tab in that window to select an output. On the bottom left of the screen under "I/O" I have Input 1 selected as the input and Out 1-2 selected as the output. Do I need to select a different output in that tab, or do I need to change it elsewhere?

What "AC3 codec problem" are you referring to? Unless I've totallly missed something, iOS has never natively supported AC3, so there's nothing faulty about your device if it's not playing an AC3-encoded file. You'll probably need to explain in more detail what it is you expect or are trying to accomplish. If you're waiting for Apple to add AC3 support to your iPad, since they've never supported it in the past, I'm not expecting such support anytime in the foreseeable future, but you can express your interest to Apple here:
