Movies disappearing from "My Movies"

I have a lot of movies on Apple TV but lately some have been disappearing from "My Movies." They're still in my movie library in iTunes. So to correct this I have to go to my library, remove it, re-add it, then sync. This solves the problem but it's annoying I have to do this at all, especially since this is a new problem. Anyone else seeing this?

OK, I think I'm sorted. I have to tick as selected in my library, then they synch, as someone's mentioned on another thread. I'm not sure why this suddenly started occuring as I don't think I changed any settings, although I did by a Touch (great)- prob a coincidence

No you won't be refunded, it's your responsibility to keep copies of your purchases. Have you not got copies of them on backups ?

Also, if I rent the movie through iTunes, why (because of the above issue) when I go to 'Purchased' it doesn't display as an option when actually using Apple TV, it doesn't display but when I go to rent it again a message comes up saying "you have already rented this movie, do you want to rent it again"? Ok Fellas, let me give you a clue: Games, particularly those that make heavy use of graphics and sound are notoriously power hungry. In fact, when I was in the Navy many years ago, the folks working on the NTDS (Navy Tactical Data System) computers used a version of Space Invaders to load test the AN/UYK-43 computers.
I have also noticed that all of my laptops (I have a brand new Toshiba dual core, an older Toshiba single core, plus 2 Dell dual core machines) have significantly shorter battery life when I play Company of Heroes than when I am just reading e-mail or surfing the 'Net. I have also noticed the same behavior when I play games on my 4th gen Touch and my iPhone 4.
The fact is, iOS 5 did make some major improvements as well as adding some nice functionality like iMessage, wireless synch, and such, but the down side is that depending on how you use the device battery life can be shorter that what you may have experienced with pervious versions of iOS. Its just the nature of the beast...

HT1657 Rental movie disappears from PC after transfer and never shows up on iPad

Article says I can transfer movie rental from my PC to my iPad (1) and that it can only exist ion device at a time. I transferred the movie, it disappeared from my PC (in Rentals catregory), but never showed up on my iPad. What now?

Thanks for replying. I tried your solution also but it didn't help. Apple gave me a 2.99 credit to my account and told me to download it again. Next time I'll download it on the device I want to watch it on, so I won't have to worry about transferring it. Apple needs to make this whole process more user friendly. I am far, far from a novice, but I am a Windows guy, not a MAC guy. Even so, I felt like a novice user having to hunt and peck just to be able to try and transfer the movie. Once I did it, and I probably could not duplicate what I did because it was just luck, the movie disappeared. I was surprised they came back with a credit so quick. Thanks again.

Once you move the movie from iTunes to the iPad, the movie disappears from iTunes. That's how rentals work.
If you can't find the movie on the iPad, you will have to contact iTunes support to get help with this. You could try rebooting the iPad and see if the movies shows up, but its gone from iTunes and it will not come back unless you rent it again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
You can try doing a search as well, by swiping to the right from your first home screen. Type the name of the movie in and see if it appears.

why have all my music, apps, movies, EVERYTHING but a few files all of a sudden disappeared from my itunes library, and how do I get it back?! I "checked for possible downloads" and it said all my material had been downloaded already.

ITunes Movie Rentals disappear from iPhone a day after transfer from Mac

OK, this has happened to me twice now. Here's the scenario:
I have a long, international flight. I rent multiple movies so that I can have films to watch both to and from the destination.
I browse for the movies on my Mac (OS X Lion, current release)
I rent four movies on my Mac.
I then transfer them, one at a time, to my iPhone--a 4S with 5.0.1. (I do this because in earlier releases, a movie would sometimes disappear if I tried to sync more than one movie at a time).
After it's done, I see four movies listed on myiPhone in the Videos app.
About 2 days later, I look at iTunes and decide to load some audiobooks. I look at the Movies tab and it shows only one rental movie on the iPhone, the last movie transferred. The other three movies are nowhere: they do not show as on the Mac or on the Phone.
I check the phone. Only the one movie is present.
At no point did I start to play any of the movies. It appears that the first three rental movies transferred disappeared from the phone as if they expired 24 hours after the transfer.
And--just to make it fun--this is the second time the exact same scenario has played out. I had a long international flight at the end of September and on iOS 4 the same thing happened before that flight. All but the last movie transferred vanished from the phone after a day.
Anyone else run into this issue?
FYI: I have contacted support to see if I can get a credit for the "lost" rentals. But as of now I'm afraid to transfer rented movies to my phone.

Yep. Me too. Getting ready to fly overseas. My iTunes on my computer says they are on my iPad, but they aren't. How does that work when I can't 'find them' anywhere on my iPad?

Movies disappearing from AppleTV when iTunes not running

I have synced my iTunes content to my AppleTV several times and have found that I continue to experience jerky playback of movies (AppleTV will pause to buffer data) and that the movies totally disappear from my AppleTV menu when I shut down iTunes. I believe that the movies files have been copied to AppleTV (ie I am not streaming the files). When I restart iTunes, it appears to need to re-sync only the movies with my AppleTV (music, Podcasts, and photos remain available on AppleTV while iTunes is not running). Please advise 1. why the poor flow when movie is playing on AppleTV and 2. why does it seem to need to keep re-syncing movies to the AppleTV?

iTunes should not have to re-sync your purchased movies if they transferred over correctly,
You might want to try restarting the Apple TV, or restoring it. Information on how to perform this is in knowledge base article 305190 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305190).

Items disappearing from my movie menu in idvd

I've put 3 movies that I had on my computer on DVDs through idvd and I made menus with chapter markers for them. This worked fine. But now, random items keep disappearing from the menu. First, just a random detail disappeared (the black brushstroke from the brushstroke theme). Then, when you go to scene selection, it should play clips from the movie in each chapter marker frame pertaining to that part of the movie, which it did at first. Then, I closed the movie without saving to see if it would go back to how it was and reopened it. All of that was still gone, plus the picture on the main menu! The picture is still technically in the drop zone though because when you open the drop zone editor, you can see it. I don't understand how things are just disappearing without me changing anything! Before this happened, I saved the movie and everything was okay. Then I left the window open and did something else on my computer (just googled something, nothing big). After that, I had the problem.

You're in the wrong folder. Instead go to your Home folder (the one the looks like a house) and then over to library > prefererences and I'm sure you'll see it (assuming iDvd has been launched at least one time on your mac). Btw, Don't count on Finder nor Spotlight to locate this item /preference if your HD hasn't been indexed recently.

Attempted to download a movie and movie disappears from library.

Attempted to download a movie, looks complete, but unable to sync to iPod... restart iTunes and movie disappears from library. No files in media folder and iTunes store thinks that it has been downloaded already. Worked with iTunes account people who were very responsive, but after multiple resends on their side, the problem continues and they suggest a local problem on my side. Thoughts?

Movie artwork and movie extras disappear from iTunes. How do I fix this?

When downloading a movie from iTunes store the movie artwork image will appear as intended for the remainder of the download, but once finished the artwork disappears and does not allow you to add artwork yourself. Same happens for movies with Extras, but it is the entire extra that disappears from iTunes and the only way to get to it is actually visit the movie folder located within the iTunes folder on my computer. This is an obvious issue to the most recent iTunes update because all movies downloaded prior have the artwork still. Also, any movies added other than purchasing through iTunes allow me the abillity to add or change artwork.
I have not been able to find any post similar to this situation other the most recent update to iTunes was rushed and not properly tested as a lot of other posts suggest unique issues that are annoying.
If someone knows how to solve this issue it would be much appreciated.

Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

Why would a movie disappear from the store?

Why would a movie that's been sold in the iTunes Store disappear from the store? It was a $14.99 movie too.

I suppose a mistake could have been made, but, other than that, it surely must be that a deal that would have kept it in the iTunes Store, somehow, wasn't done. That I haven't a clue about why is what's so frustrating.
I find it interesting, too, that there are movies not in iTunes which I would think would surely be there. For example, 25 movies are listed for Tom Cruise but "War of the Worlds" (the only one I want) isn't there. Another missing movie I like to see from time to time is "The Sound of Music" with Julie Andrews (again, the only Julie Andrews movie I want).

I recently went to the iTunes Store to rent the movies 2001: A Space Odyssey and Sunshine only to notice that these two movies have completely disappeared from the US iTunes store. Sunshine is still available in other countries, such as Canada, though. Is there any way to find out what happened to these movies?

I have also noticed several movies no longer being available. In addition, several movies that were available for rent, primarily Pixar movies, are now only available for purchase -- which means no HD access.
However, I noticed that the same movies that are having a state change are having the same state change at Amazon's video-on-demand. So, the problem is with the movie companies. I'm surprised, though, at Pixar movies being so restricted.
