Movies don't stop at next chapter marker!!

Is it time to move up to iDVD8?
Using iDVD6 I can't seem to get movies to stop at the next chapter marker; they just keep playing; which makes markers and buttons for each chapter meaningless. What can I do; other than use DVDSP?
regards, alan

just to add to Fred's excellent advice, you would have to add separate / independent QT movies to achieve your stated objective.
Also if you upgrade you may find it even more difficult in that you will no longer have the ability to do custom chapter markers within iMovie7.
In other words, iMovie 6 retains custom chapter makers whereas iMovie 7 does not. This feature has given way to interval chapter markers (ever so many mins) in an attempt to make the video editing app more user friendly.

  • Splitting Quicktime Movie at Chapter Marks

Is there a quick, easy way to take a QT movie with chapter marks, and split it into multiple files at the chapter marks? It seems like this ought to be simple, and yet I can't find any documentation about it.

Thank you, but my question was perhaps unclear. The reference you provided explains how to create a chapter track. That was not my question. I already HAVE a chapter track. What I want to do now is to split my QT file into several independent files, using the chapter track as cut points.
Use: I have a large (1.5 hour) movie that has been annotated with chapter marks every 3-4 minutes. Now I want to split the large file into many short, 3-4 minute independent movies. Is there some easy way to do this?

  • Just duplicate QT movie with chapter marker dropdown!

    Hi,
This should be simple . . . very simple . . . but I don't think iDVD will do it? I have a QuickTime movie - shot with the HVX200, overcranked - stunning video with numerous chapter markers created in Final Cut Pro exported as a self contained movie. I love the way you can click the little window at the lower right side of the QT player, and the chapter markers just drop drown so you can choose which one you 'd like to see.
I'd like to create a DVD of exactly that . . . what looks like a QuickTime player where I just click the little play triangle, and it plays. To see chapter markers, just click the little number (chapter marker) at the bottom of the screen - and voila - the chapter marker dropdown comes down. Is there a way iDVD twill let the quicktime movie look exactly like . . . the quicktime movie? No menus, no special screens - just the QT player window and movie in it !
Can this be done? Thanks very much for considering. (I also posted this on the DVD Studio Pro board, just in case that'll do it?)

    Thanks

I started to answer a while back and safari crashed so I gave up.
There's no way to get Keynote to see the chapters, but to answer your other question...
    try this:
    http://www.feelorium.com/
I think their Textation app lets you add chapter tracks.
I usually use Final Cut Pro to make chapters, then once I've run my final DV movie through compression those get stripped out. A few simple steps and you can graft the chapter file from your original DV file into the web versions (we do this every week at my church).

  • Blu-Ray Stops Playing at 1st Chapter Marker

I am battling an issue I cannot get my arms around.  I have a 3-hour video that I have sent From Premier Pro (CS4) to Encore via Adobe Link.
In Encore I rendered the video as a Blu-Ray image and set the play parameters to make the disc auto-playing.  That is the DVD has no menu start page.  The First Play is set to the beginning of the timeline, and the End action is STOP.
I do not have any Overrides set at all in my Encore project.  I have checked both the disc and the timeline panels, and Override is set to "Not Set" in both cases.
I have Encore Chapter Markers at the origin of the timeline and at every day thereafter of an 18 day trip.
The .iso image file produced by Encore was then copied to discs using CyberLink Power2Go.
When the (Blu-Ray) DVD is put into a player, it starts fine but then terminates play at the 1st marker after play starts (this is actually the 2nd timeliine marker, as the first is at the origin, or zero point) about 9 minutes into the DVD.
When I examine the Stream file  (BDMV>STREAM>00000.m2ts) on the disc, it does contain the entire video, and it plays just fine.
Thus I am assuming that something has not correctly constructed the playlist scripts causing the playback to start at the beginning but STOP at the first Chapter marker it encounters after starting play.
Any thought on how to debug and fix this issue will be GREATLY appreciated!!
PS - I just opened this Encore project and used the Preview function to play the video.  The preview STOPS also at the first chapter marker (9 minutes into the video) exactly as in the finished DVD.
I can find nothing unusual about this marker, but it is obviously the culprit!

OK.  I think I found the issue but not sure why!
When I set the project up in Encore in the Flowchart window I set the Timeline icon (linked to by the disc as the 1st play item) to an End Action of STOP.
Since it was the entire timeline that was my 1st play asset, I assumed that the STOP End Action would be at the end of the DVD.
BUT, apparently it Stops when it encounters the first Marker.
If I go to the Timeline in Encore and click on the individual Markers, all of them but the first one have an End Action of "Not Set" but the first one has "Stop".
I have just changed that 1st (at the timeline origin) Marker's End Action to "Not Set" and the last Marker to "Stop"
I'm guessing this will fix it.  Will report back after I preview things.

  • Using FCE 4 to edit mov file, inserted 8 chapter markers by double tap M, enter title, click add chapter marker.  Rendered and half of the chapter markers unrecognized or not functional.  Delete FCE prefs and redo project did not help.  How to fix?

Using FCE 4 to edit mov file.  Added 8 chapter markers by double tap M, enter title, click add chapter marker.  Rendered and 4 of the chapter markers are skipped or not functioning.  Deleting FCE prefs and rebuild project did not solve.  Solution anyone?

  • IOS6 Headset / Headphone "Skip to the next chapter" & "Return to the previous chapter" functions don't work in the Music App

"Skip to the next chapter" & "Return to the previous chapter" functions don't work in the iOS 6 Music App when listening to Podcasts and Audiobooks through Headsets (Apple & 3rd party), Speaker Docks, and in my autos handsfree bluetooth system (Ford Sync).
Listening with the Podcasts App allows "Skip" and "Return" to work. So, this is either a bug or Apple is forcing the use of the Podcast App to get the "Skip" & "Return" controls. All the other headset functions work as designed.
I listen to news Podcasts in chronological order. In iTunes I set up smart playlists sorted by release date for the podcasts. The Podcast App doesn't support playlists therefore I need to use the Music App.
Is anyone able to get "Skip" and "Return" to work in the Music app?
    Thanks for any insight!

  • Putting multiple chapter-marked movies under one IDVD menu

I am currently making various instructional videos for a company and I want to fit 4 separate imovies that are chapter-marked under 1 idvd menu so I can fit this in 1 Dual layer DVD . Any answer can help. Thanks
    Macbook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I assumed the OP had tried that and it failed..
I asssumed he was using the 'Export from iMovie' approach that only gives you a way to add one movie to an iDVD project.
Anyway, we should have him covered.

  • Why don't my chapter marks work on the burned DVD?

I spent most of the weekend learning iMovie and creating a DVD of our Children's Holiday Concert with clips and 18 chapter marks. I used the iMovie link to create a iDVD project. In that project all of my chapter marks show up in the menues and the map. I loaded short movie clips in all of the dropzones just cuz I can. Looks great in iDVD. In preview I can navigate utilizing the menu buttons with no problem. So I decide to burn my first masterpiece, which is too large for a single layer DVD, but, no problem, I am well prepared and decide to burn a Dual Layer so I can stay in Best Performance, and put my DL super drive thru its paces for the first time. After 3 hours of rendering, I pull out my disc and take it to a set-top unit to make sure it looks good. It starts, it plays fine. I advance to the 2nd chapter and then the 3rd, no problem. But after getting into the 3rd chapter it appears that none of the chapter marks after chapter 3 are there. They show in the menu, but selecting any chapter after chapter 3 drops you into the middle of chapter 3 and no farther. What's goin' on? (Apologies to Marvin Gaye.)

    Helloi there!
I am not surpriced if your dvdwriter did "forget to do the second layer" ? I made a dvd with 3 small movies the other day, 1 movie, slideshow, and a blooper.
Maeby you should do the same! 18 chapters is alot, make them simpler by sending them to Q-time as new miniature films You then make nr.1 movie in imovie open idvd and create a new prjkt Use a simple theme then add Q-tmovies 1 by 1 to new buttons as extras (chapternames). the menucontrols on dvdplayer can be alittle confusing but no 1 movie starts imidiatly to and goes back to menu when ready wiewed....

  • Audio books don't automatically go to next chapter

I listen to audiobooks on my iphone. I am having trouble figuring out the setting which will progress to the next chapter automatically instead of replaying the chapter that I just listened to. Help!

You may just have repeat on accidently. Next time while listening to your book. Press the center of the screen (middle of the artwork for the book). It will bring up a smaller sub menu of controls near the top (current time/duration along with repeat and shuffle options). Believe repeat is on left and shuffle on right. If you see repeat blue (or blue with a number 1) it means it is in repeat mode. Tap to toggle till it is white (off). Same for shuffle.

  • Chapter Marker Image Problems

    Hi,
I created a movie and set chapter marker. For images I moved the image slider to different locations than default. After rendering the movie chapters work fine but the images are wrong. The same image sometimes appears a two adjacent chapters and other times the image for the next chapter appears at the one before. I didn't have that problem before so I don't know if it is me doing something wrong or if the bug came with the recent 10.0.9 update.
    Anyone noticed the same?

Problem is solved. FCPX inserts a chapter marker at movie start which caused the problem. I set that marker manually and changed the chapter image to the position I wanted it to be. Now all images correspond to the appropriate chapter markers.

  • IDVD will not recognize iMovie chapter marker updates

I have also posted this to the iDVD forum. I am authoring a video in iMovie 6.0.3, have marked about 24 chapters in it, and and have put it into iDVD 6. I wanted to move one marker by a few seconds, so I removed it in iMovie, and added a new one where I wanted it to be. I re-opened the file in iDVD and it asked me if I wanted to accept the modifications to the iMovie file, to which I responded yes. It is bad enough that doing so wipes out the careful edits I had done for the pictures on all the chapter buttons (I am using "Reflection Dark" theme), but worse than that, iDVD simply refuses to accept the new chapter marker, and clicking on its button instead takes me to the next chapter. So there are now two adjacent buttons going to the same chapter marker, and none going to this modified one. This is simply absurd. Does anyone know how to get round this, and make iDVD accept the chapter marker changes?

Those are the only two apps that I'm aware of for the Mac for burning video DVDs.  There was DVD Studio Pro at one time but that's no longer available.
Just did a Google search and found this hit: How to Burn HD Video to DVD on Mac OS X. Its site indicates that there are menu selections.  If you try it and it's successfull be sure to post back with the results.

  • Next Chapter button in Story...

Here's a brief description of my project:
    - Dance Competition with 10 events (6 dances per event)
    - Main Menu page with "Play Movie" & "Chapters" buttons
    - Chapters page with 10 event buttons
I want this movie to act like those from the studios. In other words, if I simply "Play Movie" then hit the remote Menu at any time, it takes me back to the Chapter Menu. But if I play a particular event chapter from the Chapters page and then hit the remote Menu it takes me back to that particular chapter page and the event chapter I just played is highlighted. Make sense?
So I made this happen by creating 10 stories (each containing the particular event's 6 chapter marks). But if you play a particular chapter event from the chapter page, it defaults back to the main menu at the end of each story. I don't want that. I want the movie to continue, just like a regular movie would. So I put an end jump on each story that takes you to the next story. Fixed... not quite.
It does take you to the next story if you let it play to the end, but if you hit skip chapter during the last chapter mark of each stroy, NOTHING happens. You have to let the last chapter mark play through to get to the next story.
Is there a way to get around this?
Am I making things harder on myself than they need to be?
    Working in DVDSP 3
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply, but it doesn't really answer my questions, or am I missing something.
Yes, the fact that you originally said "if I simply Play Movie then hit the remote Menu at any time, it takes me back to the Chapter Menu." (my emphasis)
Now if you meant instead Main Menu, then yes, my answer would be different.
You can have both, Stories is still not the correct solution in my opinion.
I'll refer you to this recent thread:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68bd01ef
Bottom line is you need scripting to remember both the menu AND the button you came from, and then to use that info to return to the proper menu/button when you push the Menu button.
The nice thing about the way I described originally? No scripting.
I guess maybe if you jump to the track itself via the Main Menu, and set the track to jump to Main Menu from the Menu key, and then make a story out of all the chapters of the track, and set the story's "chapter markers" as I described above, and access the story from the chapter menu, that could do it without scripting. But I've always used scripting.

  • Next-chapter button behavior at the end of a track

This is probably a silly question.
When the DVD is on the last chapter of a track, from then on I want next-chapter button to return the user to the menu screen. When I don't do anything special to the settings, DVDSP's simulation does nothing when I press the next-chapter button. But when I play the DVD back on a set-top player, pressing next-chapter begins playing a seemingly random other track. That's certainly not what I want.
How can I set the next-chapter button to return to the menu?

Press F3 to get to advanced layout
    Go to Outline View
    Highlight Track
Click Connections Tab in the main window (menu/viewer/connections)
You can set the next jump there (same for chapter) but not all players behave the same. Stories with a "dummy marker" which disables all user controls briefly seems to stop most of the players from jumping

  • Troubleshooting a Vobulator Error, Line 332 - Chapter Marker Problem? Is Beginning of Timeline OK?

Hi, I am getting the vobulator error on a Encore CS6 project...
    "internal software error: Vobulator\Title Planner|CVOBUPlanner.cpp, line 332"
I have spent a couple hours tonight reading all the forum discussions I can on this trying to troubleshoot my problem.
First question I have is regarding the advice of "no chapter markers on the end of a timeline".
Does the beginning of my timeline qualify as an "end" that I should not have a chapter marker on?
I have one timeline in this project with about 18 chapters in it.
The first chapter is at the beginning of the timeline - seems logical to me to put a Chapter 1 in at the start.
But maybe that is wrong, since the begining of the timeline IS the starting point of the DVD?
But how can you label the start (i.e. I want to lable it "Act 1") if you don't use a chapter marker?
Also I noticed the Chapter 1 Marker got moved in to the 1 second point after transcoding. I set the chapter in premiere pro cs6 at the 0:00:00 point.
Some details on my Encore CS6 Project...
1 Video Timeline in Encore, Dynamically Linked from Premiere Pro CS6
    No Menus
    No Other graphics
Intent is to Auto play on loading, and stop at end action, with chapters in between for skipping around by user.
I get this error when I try to build a DVD Image. I get no errors when building a Bluray image.
    Premiere Pro CS6 Project...
raw video was shot as 1080p24 video from a Canon Vixia HF S21
a few cross disolve transition at beginning and end
a few graphics at beginning (but I have successfully used all of these same graphics in other Encore projects without error).
    -Thanks for your help.

Yes, not having a chapter marker at the end only refers to the end that is at the end. Not the end that is at the other end.
While logically the question is a good one, Encore puts a chapter marker at the beginning whether you want one or not. And one way to get this problem is to think  you've faked Encore out by putting the first chapter marker two frames in.
You can label Encore's Chapter 1. I thought you had to wait till you were in Encore, but in CS6 at least, you can name it in Premiere,
If you are seeing a chapter at one second; you may have 2. In a test, Encore does not move the marker when I transcode.
Be sure you are not seeing a poster frame marker.
And it may be a different chapter marker or some other problem that is throwing the error.
I assume there is only one Premiere sequence on your one timeline, correct?
From your description, I would look for an accidental chapter marker too close to another one.
I would start over with a new Encore project.
