Movies for IPAD2 if South African

So now that I have bought the IPAD it seems I cannot buy movies from the USA itunes store as I am South African. Great. Where else can I buy movies on line that I can use on the IPAD? This is a lot of work for something that was meant to be easy and fun.

Sorry, but I've not heard of any download store that has been licensed to sell feature films in South Africa. It's all up to whatever entities hold the distribution rights for SA for feature films, and apparently those companies have not yet been willing (or able due to contract issues) to license movies for download sale. Unless and until such permissions are granted, there's nothing Apple or any other company can do.
But an Apple TV isn't "useless". It can still play music as well as videos that you can obtain from a legal source, if any are available in South Africa (same problem as with feature films) or that you import from your own camera. That might not be what you had in mind when you purchased the Apple TV, but it's not "useless" as such.
Regards.

  • Converting Movies for iPad2

I have successfully been able to convert movies from DVD to iPod, but when I try to convert for my new iPad, the file is too large to save on my PC. Is the file size really that much bigger or is there some other issue I'm missing?

You've probably got a setting wrong. Your original DVD shouldn't be more than 4-8ish gigs because that's all a disc can hold. Usually when I convert a movie to the mp4 or m4v format they're a few hundred megs to maybe 2 gigs.
You can try tweaking the quality settings on your program to dumb the quality down a bit to save on file size. Also if it's rendering it out full HD size, 1900+ pixels, you don't need it that big to view it on your iPad. Check out the manual for the iPad, see what it lists as an optiomal resolution and aim for that.

  • Why is South African Educator Discount almost non-existent?

    Hi
I want to upgrade to Adobe Creative Cloud from the Photoshop subscription of $9.99 p.m.
However, since I am in South Africa, paying $49.99 p.m. (excluding 14% value added tax) is not affordable. Since I work at a university, I hoped to make use of the educators discount. Many of my colleagues purchased CS5 & 6 this way and received around 50% discount. Having the ability to install the software on personal computers instead of work computers is a major advantage, because work pcs often don't have enough graphics processing power - that is why we purchase this software for ourselves instead of through our employer, even though we still use it for work.   I also noted that the educators discount in the US and EU is 60% and in New Zealand it is 70%!
Full of hope, I contact Adobe Sales (after having a very strange conversation with a non-English speaking person on Adobe Chat) and a very polite British guy gives me the contact details for a local (South African) reseller, as apparently Adobe does not handle educator discounts for South Africans directly.
So guess how much of a discount I received from the reseller? A measly 19%. When I queried the amount quoted, the reseller told me that the price is provided by Adobe and they cannot change it.
I guess something is better than nothing, but this discount does not come close to placing this product in the affordable range.
My complaint is this: Why is the South African education discount so much worse than other countries? Please Adobe, I would just like a reasonable answer to this. If you tell me it is because of fraud or high taxes or whatever, I will be happy, but please at least provide South Africans with a reason for the differential treatment.
Thanks for your response in advance

    Hi there
I’m sorry to hear that you have been experiencing poor service in the Ramona area! I’d be happy to help! ! I recommend trying our AT&T Mark The Spot app app to capture the location of areas where there is little or no service. This information is then used to locate possible issues and plan future network improvements. We realize you won't be able to report network issues from the app without wireless service but you can mark a place on the map and report the issue when service has been restored or you can use Wi-Fi. Visit the app store for your device manufacturer and download the AT&T Mark the Spot app.
Mark the Spot is free for AT&T customers to download:
Get Mark the Spot for iPhone
Get Mark the Spot for Android
Get Mark the Spot for Windows Phone
Get Mark the Spot for BlackBerry
For more information on using the app please see here.
    I hope this helps!

I have an apple ID for the South african i Tunes store.  How do I get one for the US one?  I want to use Mind Snacks.

You will need a valid billing address in the US and be in the US when you want to buy anything from it. You can try requesting that it be added to the South African, but ultimately it's the app's developer that will have to grant Apple a licence to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

Nobody here is responsible for what is or is not available in any country. I believe it is a software licensing thing.

  • Where can i download the game tetris for south african iphone?

where can i download the game tetris for south african iphone?

If not available in the South Afraican store, you can't. You can only use a country store where you have a verified billing address located in the country & you are physically located in the country.

  • Why do I need to convert QT movies for my ipad2?

Why do I need to convert QT movies for my ipad2?

Becuase the iPad only reads certain video formats you will need to convert them.
But luckily you can drag your video files into iTunes and select the iTunes menu command (from the Advanced menu) to convert the file into a iPad/AppleTV comatible format. Easy.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • I moved from USA to South Africa and now cannot play my music on my new PC.  I cannot remember the password for my USA account so cannot deauthorize that account to allow me to play my music on my South African account.  How can I now play the music?

I moved from USA to South Africa and now cannot play my music on my new PC.  I cannot remember the password for my USA account so cannot deauthorize that account to allow me to play my music on my South African account.  How can I now play the music?  When I try to use my secret questions to access my old account I am told I have the wrong answers, including my own birth date!!!

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • I am based in South Africa, and it seems like we cannot purchase songs and movies from iTunes. any suggestions on how to by-pass this seemingly boycott of South African users?

I am based in South Africa, and it seems like we cannot purchase any music or movies from itunes. Apparently it is not supported by our itunes store, what ever that might mean. Unfortunately the staff in all of the i-shops in South Africa are pretty much unhelpfull, unlike the service i received while in the US. Any suggestions on how to by-pass this seemingly boycot of the South African users?

To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  Basically all you have access to would be anything offered in South Africa unless you move to a different country.
It's the media owners who get to tell Apple where and where they cannot sell their media.  I'm sure Apple would be happy to take your money but  if the media companies are not happy then they can say no to sales in SA.
Even if there were a way to bypass this we certainly couldn't tell you on this forum because it would violate the Terms of use of this web site and get the whole topic removed.

  • South African iTunes Store?

Does anyone know if there are plans to open an iTunes store that South Africans can use?
I can't quite see the point in buying an Apple TV if there is no iTunes shop to use it with?
    Thanks!

Sorry, but no one here knows anything about Apple's future plans for more iTunes Stores. We'll just have to wait and see.
But just FYI, you can use an Apple TV with any compatible content you can import into iTunes. It's not useless just because you don't have an online store from which to purchase. Lots of people pay as much for a device that will only stream audio (such as the Slim Devices Squeezebox), and the Apple TV will also stream photos. And, as others have pointed out, you can import your own video content: home movies, content downloaded (legally, I trust) from the Internet where the formats are compatible or can be converted, and where legal, your own purchased DVDs.
So for many people, the Apple TV may well have features that are sufficiently compelling even where Apple has not yet been able to open an iTunes Store.

  • South African users

I am looking for some South African users who are familiar with using these Adobe products? Help will be appreciated!!

Our local distributor the Core is not very good at all! And I think Apple makes assumptions about South Africa. Have you seen the Botswana store? Much better! Apple is misleading South Africans! Many people are using fake US addresses to access the US store! This makes no sense in the global economy! I think Apple is pandering to the South African entertainment industry, Sony, Galo, Mnet etc, as they fear they will loose out to the Apple iTunes store for games, movies and TV series etc. That's why these categories are missing! Wake up!

  • What setting for ipad2 full screen.

I am creating an animation in blender for use on the ipad. The full retina resolution is too big to create an animation in a reasonable amount of time so ipad2 resolution will be fine. What setting should I use for creating a movie for use on the iPad2 full screen. Surely 1024 x 768 (as this is the screen resolution) but there is no available option that i can see.
    thanks

… Still seems like there should be an easier way like a preset for the ipad or something.
    sure:
    create your 720p project
drag your Blender stuff into it
    resize it to full screen
    share/Apple devices: iPad
    done
best-practice would be to export from within Blender in 720p and drag resulting mov/mp4 into iTunes to sync with iPad … if you don't need any editing ........
