Movies in music library??

I downloaded some more movies the i converted them like i convert my other movies but when i dragged them to itunes they wernt there. Later i found them in the music library instead of the movie library.Usully when the video doesnt have video in it the converter will tell me. But it didnt. I got the info on the movie on itunes and it said it was an mgeg 4 video file. Could itunes have mixed them up? or is the video really not there?

I complained about this the day iTunes 11 came out, they clearly don't give a hoot. It's super annoying, cause I get a lot of free music and then I listen to it in one playlist, look for it in my library to delete it, when I switch back, I have to scroll all the way down again again.  And god forbid you are in your library when it switches songs while you're looking at something, cause it automatically switches to the song playing, and then you have to scroll back to where you were. Seems to me if it's a feature it used to have, it shouldn't be too hard to add it to an update...

  • If I move my music library to an external drive, am I going to loose my playlists

    Hi,
I need to move my Music Library to an external hard drive.  Am I going to loose my playlists?

This User Tip by Terence Devlin describes options how to back up iPhoto libraries,
                     iPhoto and File Management
The simplest way is to copy the library to an external drive.
And sure, after testing the copy, you can delete selected events from your original library, then would your backup be no longer the backup, but your only copy of the deleted events. In that case you should use two backups, and preferably on different drives.
Also, do you know what to do, if I want to keep backing up newer, more recent photos I take into the same older library?
iPhoto does not support the merging of libraries. You would have to export the photos from th events and import them into your archive library. Or buy iPhoto Library Manager, that supports merging of Libraries.
Another way to keep your backup in sync with the original would be using clones of your disk as backup or TimeMachine.

  • I just changed the OS from Vista to Windows7.  I have a folder on the same computer with the old iTunes library.  I installed a new version of iTunes from scratch.  How do I move my music library, etc from that backed up folder into the new iTunes folder.

I need help with moving my music library.
I recently upgraded the OS on my computer from Vista to Windows7.
During the process it copied my iTunes library to a folder on this same computer (marked it Windows.old)
Once the OS was done, I installed a new copy of iTunes on the Windows7 but it now has a blank library (folder)
How do I move my music from its current folder location (on this same computer) into the new iTunes library folder ???
There don't seem to be specific instructions on how to do this.

My situation may be different from yours since all mu music is ripped from cd's not bought from iTunes, but I would think the premise is the same.
Doesn't matter what is in your library.
When I moved computers I literally dragged and dropped the music where I wanted it to be. THen when I opened iTunes I imported the files back into iTUnes
This creates a new library with all the same items but you lose a lot of info: Ratings, comments, date added, custom EQ, playlists, etc.
If you simply copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder, it is the exact same library, not a new library. No info is lost.

  • How to move iTunes Music Library from an external HD to another?

Yesterday I tried to move all my music from an external HD to a new bigger one.
Well, I encountered various problems, the most important one is that the “iTunes Music Library” file messed up.
I transferred all files and both “iTunes Music Library.xml” and the “iTunes Library” file in the new HD. I have to say that I didn't know so much about those two files and I thought that it was enough to move them in the new location; I discovered that those files included the information about where the music is located (among other infos), so it still redirects to the older HD.
However, now I’m trying to recreate the previous situation on the older HD, and I’m trying to “rebuild” the iTunes Library (I have a back-up of the xml file, even if it is not the running one).
This operation is very important for me because about two years ago I used (for a long time )an earlier version of iTunes that had a bug: even if wrote all the tag infos on an a mp3, the “artist name” and “album name” tags didn’t remained. But I still can see all the informations through the iTunes browser (thanks to the iTunes Music Library DB). So, I cannot recreate it from zero. I absolutely need to export the existing “iTunes Music Library” to the new HD, or at least to use the existing “iTunes Music Library”, leaving it where it already is and moving only the “iTunes Music folder” (even if I don’t want to use two external HDs, the older one holding the existing “iTunes Music Library” e “iTunes Library” files and the newer one holding the “itunes Music” folder I moved!).
As far as you know how can I move safely “iTunes Music Library” e “iTunes Library” files on the new HD applying them to the new “iTunes Music” folder??
    I really need your help!
    This article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307074 didn’t help.

Sorry, I wasn't responding to you, just the original poster. I didn't look at the date on that posting and didn't realize that you'd added a post that wasn't quite the same problem. In future, you'll find you get better answers if you start your own thread. You're issue really is a bit more complicated.
If iTunes currently recognizes all the music on both internal and the external drives, it should work. You have to make sure that both drives (old and new) are mounted. Make sure you have both "Keep iTunes music organized" (you probably already do) and "Copy files to iTunes..." (you probably don't) checked.
If not all of the music is currently in your iTunes library, perform the procedure with the music that is a part of the library and add the other stuff afterwards.
    Best of luck.

  • Move entire music library - music and artwork to another computer

I'd like to move my entire music library, including artwork to another mac. I am using iTunes 9 and Mac OXS 10.4.11.
Is there a tutorial for doing that?
    Thank you,
    TPK

    Jurgen:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I think I know now you can do that.
1 - copy the iPhoto Library folder intact into the MacBook's Pictures folder.
2 - move the container folder for the "source" files to Mobile 3. Try to keep the path names as consistent as possible except for the HD name.
3 - open the library on the MB and double click on a thumbnail. When the window comes us to find the source file do so.
That should re-link all of the files in the library or at least in that roll. The worst case scenario would be do to that once for each roll. If you have the file path identical to the old HD except for the HD's name it should work.
In the event you have to create a new library and start fresh (unlikely) or want to just make sure your source file as permanently associated with the keywords and comments you're assigned in iPhoto try Tutorial #1.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • ITunes 10.7 install wants to move my music library.

I need to upgrade iTunes 10.6 on my Windows 7 Lenovo T420 laptop to 10.7 to use my new iPod Classic (replaces my iPod video), and I'm not yet ready to accommodate the changes in iTunes 11.
My iTunes music data files have been moved to a large partition on V: while the directories .itdb, .itl, and .xml are still on C: . When I attempt to install 10.7, I'm told there is insufficient space on C: for the needed 80GB+, which tells me it wants to move the music files to C:
My question: Is there an alternate install process which will recognize and leave the large music DB where it is?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Michael

I'm pleased to say (but confused) that when I ran the install again to get the error message exact wording, the install was successful. Now I wish I had retried without bothering this forum. Many thanks for your response.

  • How to move itunes music library from an old to new NAS?

I'm moving to a larger LaCie NAS and need to move my existing iTunes music files from the old LaCie to the new LaCie. My iTunes library files are on my mini, but the music files are on the NAS.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. Since I'm making this move, can I move all my iTunes files to the NAS (the whole iTunes folder in my user folder - library file, apps, artwork, etc.)? Are there advantages / disadvantages to this (e.g. for sharing with other MACs in the house)? (Currently only my music files are on the NAS - everything else is on the mini.)
    2. What is the best way to make this move? I assume I could copy the files manually, I could use iTunes organize / consolidate functions to do this, or maybe there are other options. I'm not exactly sure how to do any of the options...
    Thank you!

  • When I move my music library to Windows 8.1 machine, playlists don't show up.  What's up?

I am upgrading from Windows Vista machine to Windows 8.1.  Used a detachable hard drive to move music, but the Playlists didn't come over.  I have >100 Playlists.  Please help.

You need to move the iTunes database (iTunes Library.itl) as well your media files.  If you upgraded from Vista to Win8.1 without reformatting your hard drive, you may be able to locate this (or a prior version of it).  Search on your computer for a version of this file that predates the upgrade, then replace the current copy with that one (rename the current one rather than overwriting it).
Copying your media alone is not sufficient - as you've noted, if you don't also copy the database you then lose playlists, ratings, playcounts, etc. and in some cases will also no longer have album artwork.  Your process should have been as follows:
if necessary, bring your library into the standard iTunes layout where options to have iTunes organize your library and copy all files to the iTunes Media folders are selected (see turingtest2's notes on Make a split library portable for details)
copy the folder containing your library and media - by default C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes - to your external drive
    upgrade your OS
restore the iTunes folders to the equivalent location on your updated PC
    reinstall iTunes

You mean all yoru CDs are in your iTunes library on another computer.
iTunes library is on your computer and contains music, movies, etc.
iTunes account is used to make iTunes purchases
How do i unsync my iphone from the old computer
    You don't "unsync" it.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer and yoru iPhone will sync fine with new computer.

  • Move entire music library

I run out of hard disk space so I got an external one. I think I could make use of the external one to hold my entire iTunes library, which is kind of huge, so that the internal storage can be freed up a bit. But I know moving the entire library is not that easy. How can I do so without re-importing from the external hd?
