Movies in photo roll not available in imovie

I have multiple movies in my photo roll, but iMovie can't see them in the video browser. These are home movies of the kids so there shouldn't be any sort of Drm or file type issues. I know I used to be able to take movies and immediately access them in iMovie but it seems the latest upgrade has somehow messed it up.

I haven't launched iMovie in a while, and I've used iPhoto to import many videos from my iPhone's Camera Roll since the last time I launched and used iMovie.
iMovie prompted me to create/update the thumbnails for my iPhoto videos, along with indicating no iPhoto videos will be available with iMovie until this is completed.
Not sure how to do this manually, but this may be your problem.

I tapped a photo in Messages to vie it full screen.
Tapped the Share icon and saved it to my camera roll.
Opened iPhoto for iOS and my image library updated. After the update I could see the image in my camera roll. I selected the amera roll, then tapped the image I had copied from Messages. I was able to edit the photo with no problem.
Did you follow this same procedure or ry to copy the little thumbnail photo from Messages?

My pc crashed and I lost all my pictures and music that was stored on the pc. Now i have a new pc and when i connect to itunes using my password all my music and photos are not available. they appear to be lost.

Your content will only be where you put it. It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone: File>Device>Transfer purchases.
You can import your pics taken with the iphone as you would with any digital camera.
You can e-mail the other pics to yourself, they will never be of the original quality.
You can out a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer. You should get the option to merge the data when you sync.

How are you mailing from iPhoto? If you have iPhoto set to mail using Mail.app, you can set what will be included, when you mail with Share > Mail:

Sync with iTunes to recover these things.
Connect the iPad to your compter and launch iTunes. Select the iPad on the left side of iTunes and then click on the Apps tab. Go down through the list and select all of the apps that you want to put on the iPad. Do the same thing with the photos. Make sure that the headings - Sync Music and Sync Photos have been selected and then sync again.
If you have changed the configuration - you will have to click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.

• AVI or .avi is no Video Format/Codec - it is a container and usually contains something iMovie can not use OK.
Open it with QuickTime-player and then open inspector (cmd+I) and read
• Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnnnnnnnn

• import it into iPhoto and in iMovie import from title iPhoto Movies at top in Events window - or
• convert it into streamingDV .dv or AIC and use this.
AND - my read 24fps - I would convert this to PAL 25fps or to NTSC 29.97 (if for US) by JES_Deinterlacer.

Photos do not appear in iMovie 11

Suddenlhy photos imported into iMovie 11 do not appear in iMovie anymore. Previously imported photos appear fine. I am using OSX Mountain Lion. Any idea what is wrong ?

IOS 8 Photo Sharing not available

After updating to iOS 8 Photo Sharing is not available on some iPads 4s while it is on others. I have checked setting to make sure Photo Sharing is turned on.
On one iPad 4 running iOS 8.0 all is working fine. Under iCloud > Photos > I see iCloud Photo Library (Beta) it is turned off; My Photo Stream turned on; and iCloud Photo Sharing turned on. If I go under Photos & Camera I have the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) turned off, My Photo Stream turned on; iCloud Photo Sharing on; and Summarize Photos also on.
On another device that is also running iOS 8.0 under iCloud > Photos > there is only My Photo Stream. That is all that shows up there. If I go to Photos & Camera I see My Photo Stream turned on, Summarize Photos turned on. The other settings mentioned above are not even there to turn on.
I tried re-inviting the other person to the Shared Photo Stream and she got the email on the iPad and Accepted the invite and received a message to turn on Photo Sharing in settings. Everything is on that can be turned on.
This is not the only iPad doing this. We have a number of them having the problem within our school after updating to iOS 8.
I should mention the Photo Sharing was working before the update on the devices and the shared photo stream is working on her MacBook.
Anyone with any idea on what could be causing this and a fix?

Nope! That was the problem, I didnt even think about Voice Dictation being part of Siri..

Photos from Photos app not accessible in iMovie 10.0.8

When using iMovie 10.0.8, Photos in the new Photos app are not showing up in the Photos heading in the library. Photos under the iPhoto heading are accessible.

I finally figured this out. In Photos, select “Preferences”. There is a selection to “Use as System Photo Library”. Click on this to allow whatever photo library you are using when you opened Photos to be used in iMovie and other applications. You can always open Photos and use other libraries, but only the one you are using as the “System Photo Library” will be recognized by other applications such as iMovie and also, I believe, in iCloud.
Hope this will solve the mystery for you, too.

Dimensions/Codec/Duration columns in Movies folder ... not available elsewhere?

I have my movies folder "arranged by" date created ... in this mode, if you right-click the column headers, you get additional column options (duration/codec/dimensions).
Is there any way to get these choices in other video folders (that's not the default Movies folder)?
It's not available outside of that folder.

Yeah, that's a little of what I was talking about when I mentioned my faith in mac and such. It turned into a Quicktime question when that's what isn't playing the vids at all, and that's what SHOULD be playing the vids and there isn't a "VLC" or "DivX" forums here that I could find. Sorry if I missed them.
Now if you didn't know the answer you could have just not answered as I've had enough attitude with regards to this and every other problem I've had that I haven't wanted to cough up 40 bucks for just to have some guy tell me over the phone that he doesn't know what the problem is either. Either answer, or don't, or direct me to the right place please so I can go on with looking for people that actually would like to help me, or look into going PC.

After updating to iOS 7.1.1 I can no longer see movies I've rented. It either comes up "content not available" or "content not authorized" even though the payment was taken?ive never had problems before

Movies from iPhoto do NOT appear in iMovie

When I click on "iPhoto Videos" nothing is displayed, although I even made a Smart Folder in iPhoto that had the keyword "movie" just to prove to myself I do have movies in there.
My movies are in MPEG-1 format, and play fine in iPhoto. I can't import them manually because iMovie blocks going in to the iPhoto folder in the import window directly (kinda neat safety feature... as long as the "iPhoto Videos" feature works... which it doesn't)
Anyone got around this one yet?

I have the same problem. (Your video clips must be from a Sony digital camera - they only use MPEG-1 muxed video).
There are several things you could do.
1) buy a different brand digital camera (Canon uses AVI - which is fully compatible with iMovie) for all future video clips
2) complain to Sony that muxed video will not work with iMovie.
(Muxed means the audio and video are compressed together - so after being convereted to iMovie, the video will play, but the audio is thrown out.)
3) complain to Apple that all Sony's video are not supported in iMovie.
4) get a third party converter, and batch convert them all to MPEG4 (you can convert to DV, too, but in my clips, DV increased the file sizes 10x). I use MPEG Streamline. Free and quick (about an hour to convert 50 or so short clips) The biggest headache is that the date and time after conversion is wrong. Grrrrrr Now I have to go back and reset the dates manually for 12 months worth of video clips. Grrrrrr again.
5) Then, dump the newly converted and date-corrected clips into iPhoto, and they will all show up the next time you open iMovie (after a "conversion" process that takes a while.)

iMovie does not edit MPEG2 natively. However, iMovie will import directly from a supported camera. During the import, the footage will be converted from MPEG2 to Apple Intermediate Codec.
If you hook up your camera, it should import just fine.
For existing footage that you have stored on your hard drive, there are a couple of options.
1) The MPEG Streamclip option. With MPEG Streamclip (free) (and the MPEG2 Playback component which you already have) you can convert the MPEG2 to a iMovie compatible format like DV or AIC or h.264.
2) You might be able to "fake out" iMovie into thinking that your hard drive footage is really on a camera. To do this, you will need to create a disk image of your camera, and move the footage back to the disk image. Alternatively, you could drag the footage back to your camera and import from there. Perhaps someone who has your camera can give detailed instructions for this. The disk image must have the identical file structure that your camera does. (This is how imovie knows it is a camera.)
Disk images can be created by Disk Utility, which comes with your Mac. It is found in the Applications/Utilities folder, and is also handy if you ever need to format a drive.

Photo rotate not working in iMovie or entourage

I'm running iPhoto 5.0.4 and ever since the most recent update, photos that are vertical are shown horizontally. When I go to rotate the photos so that they appear correct, it shows correctly in the main library view, but when I click on it to the edit view the orientation is back to horizontal, and when I go to email the photos or load them into iMovie they continue to display horizontally despite any rotation I do to them in iPhoto. Help!

It sounds like your database is slightly damaged. You can try an automatic rebuild. Hold down the Option and Command keys while you launch iPhoto. Check the first 3 options in the dialog box, then click Rebuild. It can take a while if you have a lot of pictures.
