Movies in Web Gallery

iPhoto or .Mac for web gallery questions? I'll try here:
Running iPhoto 7.01 and uploaded a web gallery of my niece's wedding. My camera takes QT movies as well and allows you to select movies and even sends a thumbnail with a movie icon on it. But when try and play them you get an generic 'QuickTime is unable to play this movie. Please try again.' and the Gallery entry in iphoto has one of the triangle '!' signs after it as if it ran into problems.
So is it:
a bug in delivery and Gallery doesn't really support QT movies (and should warn you if some are selected or just ignore them)
it only supports certain types of QT movies (though I don't think they got sent)
Or some other problem? No mention of movies that are supported by iPhoto in the database in any Gallery help or notice I can find.

Why is this thread marked as 'Answered?' Is the 'solution' that, while iPhoto 'seems' to be able to upload videos it lists and plays to Web Gallery, videos don't play.
Is that the answer? Has anyone been able to have videos uploaded to a web gallery via iPhoto actually run in a Web Gallery. If so, which format was it in?
(ANSWER/Workaround below.)
For me, My camera's MPEG1 Muxed, 640 x 480 pixels movies are copied to and list fine in iPhoto and are listed with an icon in a Web Gallery, but throws up an error message.
Movies exported to finder by iMovie 08 (.m4v, mpeg4 using H.264) is not even accepted as a valid format by iPhoto, so I can't say if it will run in the Web Gallery. Likewise, exporting a movie to the Media Browser does little, as iPhoto can't access the Media Browser. (Is that true? Am I missing something?)
Video encoded as MPEG4 Decompressor (libavcodec), 640 x 480, Millions AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz (.mp4) is accepted as a valid format and is uploaded to the Web Gallery. It is also played in Web Gallery.
So, Non-H.264 compressed mpeg4 movie clips will play in Web Gallery.

  • Playing movies in web gallery

When playing a movie in web gallery I have to wait until the line below the movie slowly crosses to the following side. It is as though the movie is being downloaded before you can play it through. Is this normal, or am I missing out a step before clicking on the play icon?

This depends on the size of your movie file and the speed of your internet connection.
You can either cut the size of the movie file or give your viewers a description of the move to read while it downloads. The latter also gives the Google spiders something to report about your web page as they can't watch the movie!

  • Delete Movie in web gallery

I created ab album in iphoto with pictures and movie. I publish the album to the web gallery and it worked fine. I deleted the album in iphoto, the pictures were deleted in web gallery but not the movie. How do I delete that ?

You may have to mount your iDisk and go to the Web/Sites/_gallery folder and delete the folder containing the movie.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Movies to Web Gallery from email

I've looked around and there are some posts on this matter but nothing that can seem to answer my particular question.
I have a G4 PowerBook so iMovie 08 won't work with me. I understand that if I enable email uploads to my Web Gallery I may be able to email a movie to it. I have a 7mb movie but it won't go. The attachment allowance is now 20mb on the email. Is there a maximum size for Web Gallery? Or is the maximum size only an issue if the move is emailed?
Alternatively, is there another way to achieve what I want to do? I have heard that it's possible to upload it straight from iPhoto, is this true? I can't try yet as I'm in work and need to wait until I get home.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Thanks.

It's not really an iWeb issue.

  • Moving a web gallery

How can i move a web gallery folder from my old mac to my new one?

    Jim:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You would have to move the library package to the new mac. If the new Mac has a library with photos then you can use iPhoto Library Manager to merge the new Mac's library into the old library. That will preserve the gallery. Be sure to enter the .Mac info in the system .Mac preferences.

  • Removed Movie from .Mac Web Gallery But Broken Link Remains?

I published a movie to my Web Gallery successfully. I then tried to republish but got two movies in the Gallery. One movie worked and the other was a broken link. I removed the movie from .Mac using Share>Remove From .Mac, and the working movie was removed. But I am still left with a broken link in the Movies section of my Web Gallery. How can I remove this broken link?
I checked my iDisk and found \Web\Sites\_gallery, but I can't find the index file for the gallery (only folders for the albums).
    Thanks, Will

I'm having the same problem (broken links after a republish) -- and a few others:
    1) After about the first time, I have been unable to remove a movie from the gallery. I just get a connection error. I'm able to add movies (somehow the connection magically works) but removing fails most of the time.
    2) When adding a movie, for some reason, the title of the movie ends up replacing the "My Gallery" title for my entire web gallery. On the web gallery home page (over my photo albums and videos) it shows the title of the first video.

  • .mac web gallery and iPhoto '08 movies, which format?

Hi Folks, I ran into a problem over the weekend working on a movie project. As you might have read in the forums, there is no way to load up a movie to .mac web gallery with password protection. The suggested workaround by Apple is to import your movie into iPhoto '08 and then load it up into the .mac web gallery and apply the password protection offered by iPhoto.
But here comes the kicker, when I export movies out of iMovie '08 they have the .m4v extension, and iPhoto refuses them into it's library. So what kind of extensions of format should a export the movies to, for them to be imported into iPhoto. All help and support is welcome and appriciated!
    Cheers, CC

Seeing as iTunes store video is m4v format I bet someone writing iTunes thought we'd better not allow anyone to add iTunes store material to an iPhoto library, so all .m4v files are locked out.
Just tested this and exported a short .m4v and as you say when you try to import the .m4v file is greyed out.
    I think this'll work:
Under Share choose Export using Quicktime
    I chose
Movie to Quicktime Movie then selected Options tab
    Choose Quicktime to mov
Use an h264 codec with AAC.
I can certainly import that .mov to iPhoto - and create a web gallery - my uploading is very slow and everything is 'pending' at present but i thinks it's slowly going there!

  • Is it possible to password protect Movies in the new Web Gallery?

I have loaded several iPhoto albums onto my new Web Gallery - and I can password protect each using a different name and password for various friends and family. This is great as they each then have their own privacy. Some I have left open to view by everyone. BUT, I would like to password protect some movies from iMOvie '08. Can this be done for the movies as per the photo albums - and how? If yes - can it also be done for movies already published or will they have to be re-published?
    thanks
    Alan

The best I can figure out is that if you post your movie, but do not select the option to "Show project on Web Gallery home page," the video will not show on your home page for random visitors, but you can send the direct link to your video to whomever you want by copying it from the confirmation page after the video uploads. Not perfect, but the only option I see right now.

  • Move Web Gallery

I maintain two copies of aperture one on my MBP local hard drive and one on a remote HD. I export projects I've made while traveling, off of my local HD to the remote HD to leave room on the MBP. I made a Web Gallery on the local and unlike the project it came from I can't export it. Any ideas on how I can move it?

    You can only export Projects.

  • Ipod touch, web gallery, movies panel does not show in safari

i have some movies in my web gallery published from imovie08.
ipod touch safari will not display the movies panel of my web gallery, only the pictures panel.
however, i have a movie embedded in one of my picture albums which will play. so i know that it will
    show movies.
anyone know why the movies panel does not show?

To get pass the passcode lockscreen, recovery mode and restoring should help: iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
If the issue continues after updating and restoring your device, refer to this document.

  • IMovie Web Gallery Issues with Multiple Size Movie

If I upload a medium and large size versions of the same movie to my web gallery it stores the two movies successfully. If I visit the site I'm presented with my album of the two sized movies. I click on that thumbnail and another page opens up showing the medium movie downloading. There is text to click for Medium and Large verions of the movie below the display area. If I click Large a refreshed page appears. I have to wait for the medium moving to finish downloading before the large movie starts. Why doesn't the medium move abort when you click the Large link? Despite both movies have been downloaded if I click on the medium movie text link the movie starts downloading again.
Also, I can't delete the medium movie from the web gallery without deleting the large movie. I have to upload the large movie again.
Any work-a-rounds. This doesn't sound right.
    Kelvin

I don't know the answer (..so perhaps I shouldn't be replying..) but I can confirm that the same thing happens for me.
There's no × available at the top-left of the gallery page, either, to stop the download, to enable quicker swapping to another size.

  • Options for getting movie to .Mac Web Gallery?

I have a Flip Video Cam that I have been using lately to take short clips of various family events that I want to put on my .Mac Web Gallery. The ease and quality in using iMovie 08 is terrible, so I'm wondering what my other options are. I've noticed iMovie 06 doesn't have an option to Export or Share to .Mac. Is this possible in FCE?
    What do other people use?

You could complete the movie in im6 or FCE and export it to your required format, add it to an iphoto album you have made especially and added a photo or two, publish, then remove the photos.
Personally im08 quality isn't an issue for me and I use it all the time.

  • QuickTime movies won't run on Web Gallery - asking for QT 7.2

    Hi
I have this problem. When I try to visit my Web Gallery under Fire Fox and watch the movies I posted I got the message the to play this file I need to have QT 7.2. I have the latest version of QT installed and it runs without problems under Safari. Does anyone have the same problem. Is there any setting I can change to make QT work with Fire Fox?
    Thanks

  • Web gallery still not working.

The web gallery feature is still non-functional. I used to use it all the time. Suddenly a few days ago I noticed that it simply does not work anymore. I highlight and event, click web gallery, it creates a web gallery in the left sidebar of iphoto. The little progress circle turns for about 15 seconds, then suddenly the web gallery from the sidebar disappears and it as if I never clicked on the web gallery button. All my old we galleries are gone. I tried deleting iphoto prefs and deleting to _gallery folder from my idisk. No luck. When I try publishing a movie in iMovie to the web gallery, everything seems to proceed correctly. It compresses and uploads. The when I click the link provided, I get Apple's version of error 404: no such website.

    Ben:
See if you can upload a file, any type will do, to the Sites folder on your iDisk via the Finder. I had a similar problem. When I tried uploading a file to the Sites folder or any of its subfolders I would get an error message. I reported it to the iWeb and .Mac feedback sites. It went away for a while and then came back that same day and then went away. Apple did get back to me and checked my account. They reported all was well. If you do get an error you may have a similar to mine but one that's not correcting itself. Report you problems to:
