Movies on a Netbook

I have an HP Mini 311 and the HP external DVD/CD Rewritable drive model dvd556s. Can I watch movies on the 311 that are running in the dvd556s? Do I need any special software for the computer to recognize and display the movie?

yes, you can authorise up to 5 (i think) computers to use one itunes account.

• Jumpy mouse movements on Asus netbook

Just installed FF 4.0 and using it on an Asus netbook 1101HA. Whenever I use the mouse on a website, the mouse moves erratically, noticeably erratic. This problem is not apparent in any other app. (I'm using the mouse pad and not an external mouse.)

Hi Rod,
we are working on this with our team, and here are some interesting things we found out:
We uploaded a non-scorm course on Moodle and it works smoothly. In Captivate every page will communicate with the LMS for bookmarking and reporting. Maybe for that reason the animations are not smooth. With this observation we are trying to play around with the layers in Captivate to see if it brings any difference.
Here is the link to the non-scorm course: http://mytechschool.com/moodle/file.php/101/Multi%20Color%20Pen%20-%20v1.38.htm
The communication that occurs on each slide is causing the jumpy mouse / slow mouse movements. Is it possible to fix it by modifying / adding javascript into the HTML wrapper so the SCORM package didn't send the results until the end of the assessment?
How can we do this?
Here is the moodle post where they provided javascript code to accomplish this task. Unfortunately, when this code is used, it doesn't record the results in the gradebook. We could use help from the Adobe community to modify this code so it records the results in the gradebook while avoiding a jumpy mouse.

• If I have 2 laptops can I use my account on both?

I have a laptop and I'm thinking about getting a netbook. Now I know you can only use one computer for downloading everything to the iPods but can I just download Apple iTunes to a netbook and purchase off my same account and download some music and movies just to keep on the netbook. I wouldn't be wanting to transfer it to my iPod Touch. I would just like to have a few songs and a couple movies on the netbook. I hope you understand what I'm asking.

yes, you can authorise up to 5 (i think) computers to use one itunes account.

• ITunes for 2 devices on 2 computers.

I've had the classic for a while now and learned how iTunes works with it. Now I have added an ipod Touch (8gb). Problem I had was the touch was opened on my netbook at my girlfriends - so I loaded itunes in order to charge the touch. I now have iTunes on both my netbook and desktop. Is there anyway I can have both systems the same for both devices?
I added a few apps and downloaded Airplane to try out the Touch with a movie on my netbook.
I have returned home and connected to iTunes on my home PC and can no longer find Airplane. Presumably it is still on the netbook at my girlfriends.
I am at the stage where I am scared to do anything in fear of losing all my stuff. Still not sure about i-Tunes after a fair amount of time using it. Where did my movie go?
I'm sure others have had similar problems trying to use two devices with one iTunes library on two or more PC's. How does one sync everything without losing existing files? - any pointers gratefully accepted.

*How to use multiple iPods with one computer*
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
etc.
I currently manage our family's five iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

• How do I copy an iTune movie from my laptop to my netbook?

OK, I hope you can understand what I'm trying to do. I have iTunes on my laptop where I sync my iPod. I loaded iTunes on my netbook (but don't plan on syncing with my iPod, leaving that for the laptop). Anyway, I have movies on my laptop and iPod. I can use my account on my netbook, which is fine.
Now I copied a movie from my laptop to a flash card. I took the flash card to my netbook, it plays the movie fine, but I wanted to copy it to the iTunes on the netbook so I don't have to carry the flash card around. I did a copy on the drive the card was in and did a paste to "Program Files" then to "iTunes", figuring it will go to the right spot. Well, it showed that it was there but when I tried to play the movie it said it couldn't locate it.
Where am I going wrong in the pasting of the movie after I do the copy? Can it be done?

Make sure that the option to "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is set in the iTunes -> General preferences. Then just drag the movie from the flash card to the iTunes window. iTunes will copy the movie to the correct place.
Content you copy into the Program Files -> iTunes folder will never be recognized by iTunes (that's not where iTunes keeps it's media) so you can delete that copy of the movie.
Regards.

• HT1539 can i add my digital copy to itunes with out using the disk? my netbook does not have a disk drive and i want to add my movie to my ipod can i do it with out the use of the disk and just the code?

Can I add my digital copy movie to my iTunes with out using the disk, my gateway laptop/netbook does not have a disk drive I have the unused code and everything, I just can't stuck the movie into the computer itself and my desktop computer has no internet on it. Is there a way to add my movie to my iPod touch 2nd generation tuning 4.2.1

Hiya!
It depends on what kind of digital copy you have. This article goes ino details regarding the two types, and depending on the type you have, you may or may not need the DVD to redeem the code.

• ITunes and QTime videos and movies work horrible in Netbooks, All Versions

I own several Netbooks and my latest purchase is the HP 5101 Mini which is one of the best Netbooks on the market. I can't understand why my movie files that I purchased on iTunes play back so choppy. Yet, movie files I purchased that I can play through DivX7, PowerDVD 9 and even Windows Media Player work without a hitch. I also downloaded the MPEG-2 converter for QTime and there is not a bit of difference in video playback on my Netbooks. I thought Apple was supposed to have the best codec software for playback, etc. What gives?

As far as I know, there is no way to make iTune or QuickTime runs faster on Windows platform. However, this should somewhat answer your question as of why movie file play back is so choppy.
"iTunes for Windows carries a base of intermediary code which translates the OS X framework into specific Windows program calls, adding significantly to the overall bloat and overhead.
The technique allows Apple to rapidly develop applications in parallel for both OS X and Windows, and it keep a single code base, which simplifies maintenance. It also results in Windows versions being a pixel-perfect copy of their OS X counterparts because the same code defines internal logic and aesthetics in both application versions. But the intermediary "translation" layer that's added to the Windows version of iTunes eats up a lot of CPU time, resulting in a sluggish performance under Windows."

• Netbook playing internet videos and movies

Can this particular netbook an eMachines - Netbook / Intel® Atom™ Processor / 10.1" Display / 1GB Memory / 160GB Hard Drive - play movies from like from netflix or tv website videos?

Maaaybe... But not likely. Adobe Flash is a massive CPU hog, and while a netbook can play standard definition H.264 video with the right player... Adobe Flash is not it, so most netbooks barely have enough CPU power to watch even standard definition content if it is delivered by Flash, if they even have enough. (e.g. Hulu, YouTube, etc.)
Some netbooks do have an Nvidia ION chipset which provides hardware acceleration for Flash video if you use the latest (version 10.1) Flash player. (Main example I can think of is the Asus 1201N and its successors.)

• Move ipod/backup to new desktop from netbook.

Hi everyone,
I did a search, but didn't find exactly what I needed. I have been using itunes on my netbook would sync my ipod touch with it. I now have a new desktop computer and want to backup my ipod here without changing anything on my ipod. I have no trouble moving over the itunes library, I just don't want to mess up the backup and sync on the touch. What's the easiest way to do it?

Hi
Re: NTP... you can have multiple NTP servers assigned, and only the primary NTP server is used for license MAC generation. As such, I would:
1) set the primary NTP server to be the real NTP address you want to use. This will not be accessible when you build the server with the old servers' IP.
2) set the secondary NTP server to an accessible NTP server. I do this by setting up NTP on the server you serve the SFTP backup file from. I use Meinberg NTP if this is a Windows box, it's free.
That way you can build the server (primary NTP not accessible, but secondary is so it's fine). Then after the restore, change IP address and it will start using the primary NTP server.
I presume deployment type refers to product and role .e.g. a CUCM Publisher, not a CUC server or CUCMBE publisher.

• TS3354 can i watch purchased movies/tv on my netbook without being connected to the internet ?

Is it possible to watch purchased TV/Films whilst not connected to internet .?

Why can't you use both your USB ports at the same time? If the dongle is a bit fat, a bit of jiggling might work, it doesn't necessarily have to be all the way in. Hold it still though. I don't know of any way to update the software without an internet connection, sorry.

• What is the Advantage of the IPad or Netbook?

I think I would enjoy the Apple iPad but what advanages would I obtain from using the Ipad rather than my netbook? And as I have stated I am not computer or technology knowledable. So, what are some of the best reason I would enjoy the iPad rather than my netbook? I currently use my Acer, 11.6" screen Netbook for my minor computer needs. Which are basically to check my email, chat, shop and research. I am online through my AT&T Local Service. I enjoy the compact size and weight of the netbook but even it can be too much when you use it all day. I am hoping the Ipad will be more user friendly and I will learn to use more of the applications available. My Netbook has a standard size typing keyboard and little larger than the 10" screen. It is pretty fast and reliable but I believe the New Generation Apple iPad 16gb / 9.7" color touch pad monitor will be easier to use. It may take me a while to get use to the touch screen since even my Kindle 3G/Wi-Fi Ereader has an exteriour typing pad. I like it since I can type a little faster but am sure I can learn to use the touch pad if it does not scroll back up before you can finish your typing? I experienced this problem with a Pandigital I bought and returned for the Kindle. I really like the speed and ease of the 3G wireless on the Kindle but do not want to pay a fee each month to use the best feature it has. Especially, since I will still have to pay for my cell phone, and Wi-Fi AT&T Service for my computer and there is no charge for this great AT&T Service on the Kindle. Also, the kindle is not in color but the special ink used for reading makes it so easy to see, I do not mind it not being in color. I am an avid reader and will continue to use it just for reading and keeping my books organized. I literally ran out of space at home to put another books and that was the reason I bought the Kindle. But, after reading on it and using it for over a year, I consider it one of the best electronic items I have purchased.
But, I think I need to move into into this century and purchase something more updated for other additional options and use as well. But, will not be any where near the reason most of you very Tech-Savvy Users have them. I doubt I will use the WebCam. Never have on my netbook. Don't even know how. And I believe if I were to find enough friends to use it so we could chat and see each other, I could try and learn to use it. But, hate to add another fee to what I am already paying for services I do not use. I am house-bound and rarely use my cell phone and I had the texting service charge removed since I do not know how to text. And if I were to learn, I would get a nicer more sophicated phone. I have a camer on my cell phone but have never used it. So, I doubt I will use the one on the Ipad. It will still be used for just the basic for me.
Therefore, with my liminted knowledge and use, how much memory would I need and would the 4g wireless be worth the extra money per month? I don't mind paying a 100.00 more for the ipad with that option but if I do not plan on paying for the service, do I need this option avaiable to me? I don't believe it can be added later? And how do you chose from Version. Do they offer to add an iPad to your current cell phone plan or is it a seperate service and charge? I am also hoping I will be able to add whatever it takes so I can use a printer with the Ipad? But, other than this, I cannot think of other special features I woudl need? So, dear Tech-Savvy friends and users, I am looking forward to your recommendations and personal comments on just what Ipad would be the best for me to get. And hope you may have some good recommmendation who will have the best price on one. I think I should get the latest version becuase of all the great reviews on the quality of the new screen. Mt vision since my cataract surgery has become more blurry rather than better and I need to make sure the reading screen is good for the eyes. I found a couple of good buys at Amazon and checked them out at Best Buys, and QVC. It seems they all run about the same price. Amazon may have been a little less but it was not for a new one and I need the new warrantly. That will give me time to try it out and make sure I will like and use it, If anyone lives in the Columbia, SC area, please let me know. I would like to pay someone to teach me more about word processing, uploading and downloading pictures and how to get good pictures from a digital camera. I would like to learn to maybe sell a few things on eBay. But, not sure I can lean all of this in my lifetime:)
Thanks in advance to those who do care and are willing to assist people like me who have no idea what I need to buy. I may be very tech-challenged. However, there is one thing I do know, and that is where to find you experts who do not mind sharing your great knowledge and helping others like myself. I realize there is tons of information available but for some of us, we need more personal information and explanations that is not provided by the manufactures. I have been so blessed to receve just the information I need from those who care and are happy to share. So, which iPad will it be?
Thanks and God Bless,
Sunny in SC

Thank you Alan and know you are right. I really can do all I need with my netbook and ereader and do not need the ipad. I think I just wanted something new and felt I may enjoy using it a lttle more than the netook. But it would be a waste just to buy one when I donlt acutally need it And, donl't think it is worth the extra money for me the get the 4g wireless capability since I doubt I would really need it often.
I may treat myself to the Ipad for the color, touchpad and fun to use but it is very expensive considering how little it will do for me no more than the things I want it for. It woudl be and expensive luxuray, I can do without. I actually need t learn how to use more of the function avaiable first. Maybe I should take up playing games and learning to take digital pictures so I can at least load them. If I could learn to do that and take a decent picture, I could start selling back all the "stuff" I have purchased on ebay. haha - I do have a nice doll collection, I would like to sell. I just do not have room for anything else. That was the primary purpose for the Kindle Ereader I bought and enjoy so much,
But, I will hold onto the thought for a while and see how it goes and what other comments I get, If I think I cannot live without it, then I will have to rethink which one to buy, I coud get the 32 g if I did not have to pay for the 4g wireless. And, if I knew I could get help to teach me how to use and enjoy all the functions, I would give it more serious consideration. My granddaugther got one for Christmas and that was what got me interested in it. I love the size of the screen and it had good color and was fast. She even had an application where she could write her notes and it would convert into typed words. That was a neat feature, If you could print it?
But thanks again for your comments and I will check later to see I get any other feedback.
Sunny:)

• IWeb and Quicktime Movie Upload 2013

Three or so years ago, I made a website using iWeb (the last version Apple produced; i.e. the current version), and I included some videos. The videos were from a digital (tape) video camera, edited with iMovie HD, and were old-format 640x480. I managed to work out how to set the movies to start quickly (before fully loading) using iMovie and QuickTime. I dropped the movie into a regular iWeb page, resized it, put the settings up with the iWeb inspector, and all was well. The movies played (and still play) on Safari and Firefox, on my Macs and on an Asus Windows machine I have. (They won't play on my iPad - if anyone can tell me why, I'd be grateful; I'll probably put the original DV through a more recent version of iMovie and QT, and upload again.)
I want to make another similar website. However, my camera is now a HD tape model, and I have made my peace with iMovie '11 and worked out how to use it. My machine is the latest Mac Mini, and so QT is the latest also. I run Mountain Lion.
I made a movie with iMovie '11, and exported a quality version. I opened it in QT and chose 'Export for Web' and selected the option which gives me three different sizes. After some struggles, I worked out how to put this into my uploaded iWeb (test) site (although I have to say that the instructions Apple's QT gives are not the clearest), and it works, even on my iPad.
My questions concern the code which QT says you should upload. The code in the
, I understand, and it's obviously necessary to play the movie.
But about the
tag QT says:
Please note, to properly validate as XHTML, the

Questions:
1. Should I put the QT code in the
tag anyway, even though it seems to work without it?
2. If I don't put it in, does that mean the choice between the three movies doesn't take place? I don't have a smartphone, but the playback on my 27" screen, my Asus netbook, and on my iPad all look fine without the head code.
3. If I do put it in, where exactly do I put it, and do I need to replace any of the code that is already there?
4. The original iWeb drag and drop method still seems to work fine with movies direct from iMovie (and plays even on my iPad), but obviously you can only put one version of the movie on a page. Is there still a good reason for using the multi-size version which involves manually uploading the movie and opening the page after uploading and inserting code for every movie? For example, I have a very fast internet connection. Maybe it's kind to those with a slower connection to put up the smaller movies also?
And, since I'm here, I have a couple of slightly related questions:
5. I designed my site (it's non-commercial, just a trip report, but with a lot of pages) to not need any scrolling even on quite a small desktop screen (you click on from page to page like a book, but you can also navigate around sections more easily this way; anyway that's how I like it). But on the iPad, held horizontally, the width is resized to take up the full width of the sceen, so you then need to scroll down. It's really annoying me. Is there some code I could put in to tell the iPad not to do this (there are plenty fewer vertical pixels on my website's pages than on the iPad screen)? (I don't care about phones, because the site is photo-based so looking at it on a phone is pointless in my opinion. And netbooks with only 768 vertical pixels are not particularly important to me either, but the iPad screen is plenty big enough for the site to work the way I want it to.)
6. And I want to include slideshows of photos without using the iWeb/iPhoto system (which brings up an external window in a different colour). I want the user to be able to see the thumbnails, to start and stop an on-page slideshow, and for me to be able to put captions (descriptions) with the slides. There seem to be a lot of options, and I still haven't finished looking at all the ones I got from the web. But does anyone have a good recommendation - paid or free?
Thanks for reading this long thread, and for any advice.

See the second method described on this page for how to add the code to an HTML Snippet...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Poster-Movie.html
The prefered method of playing movies on websites is to use an HTML5 player with flash fallback for older browsers. Using this method, you can get away with only one video file - an MP4.

• Can I sync my ipod nano with my second computer/ netbook while travelling?

Looking for some advice on how to connect my IPod nano with my second computer while travelling. That's what happened: I have my iTunes library on my computer at home and can sync my IPod nano (6 th generation, replaced onyl recently) with that library. While I was travelling and wanted to use my IPod I received an error message asking me to connect the IPod with iTunes in order to recover/restore (sorry, the message apeared in German, so I do not know the exact wording in English) . As I only had my second computer - a small netbook - with me, I downloaded iTunes and connected the iPod - only to receive the message that this Ipod would sync with another computer (sure!) and would I want to sync it with this iTunes library instead now? (Of course not, I did not dare because that library was empty!). So there I was with my computer with iTunes library at home and an iPod stuck in recovery mode and not doing a thing during my vacation. Any suggestions? If I have to take my great big workstation with me to get the iPod running again, I might just as well leave the iPod immobile at home. (;-)

On your home computer connect your Nano, click on the name in iTunes, move right to the Summary tab then tick the box that says Manually Manage Music. You will now have to er, manually drag your music to your iPod, and manually eject it when done, but you will be able to add music from two different computers.
