Movies On My Drive Have A Cloud?

I have a few movies on my Mac's external drive with iTunes home sharing ON, and when I view them on my iPad under SHARED they now appear with a CLOUD on the bottom right.  Normally they did not have this CLOUD unless it was one of my purchased movies that was at the iTunes CLOUD.
Is this normal now?

Have you tried clicking on the cloud with the arrow? That symbol means the app/music is in iCloud so requires downloading to the device, you could also try syncing when connected to iTunes.

I have itunes folder on Sony Vaio that is seriously unwell. I can start up in safe mode but that's all.  It has home sharing enabled.I need to transfer the library onto this new computer before it completely gives up the ghost.I have i cloud but want the main folder transferred to this computer. I have part of my i tunes folder on 2 back up drives.
    Can anyone help please

If the computer only starts in safte mode, it is highly unlikely that network functionality works.
Copy or move the ENTIRE iTunes folder (and any other personal data you want) to an external drive.

I have a number of audiobooks purchased through iTunes on my iPod touch.  Is there a way to move or download them to the Cloud so that I can access them on other devices?

Thanks - I didn't realize that.  I'm also embarrassed to admit that I don't know how to transfer the audio files from my iPod to the iTunes library on my computer.  When I select a book from the list on the iPod, the only option I see with the right-facing arrow symbol is "Show in iTunes Store ".  I back the iPod up to this computer so I guess those files must be on it somewhere, but all I can recognize in the iTunes folder under " Music"  are the music files found in the "iTunes Music" folder. (There are also a ton of files named "iTunes Temp (some #).) The Books list on the computer shows some but not all of the audiobooks -  I purchased the rest on a different computer that is now unfortunately dead. I'm guessing now that those didn't transfer over when the new computer was populated from the old one, so the iPod may be the only place where those audiobooks now reside.  I hope that made some sense- any additional advice would be appreciated.

  • Iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos.  I have over 7000 photos.  When I deleted some, I found that the event still shows up with a blank frame.  Can I move some photos to an external hard drive but leave the pointer in iphoto?

iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos.  I have over 7000 photos.  I would really like to move tsome of the older photos to an external hard drive. (They are backed up in Time Machine, but I like the immediacy of having them available.)  So question 1 -  is it possible to split the iphoto library so that the directory tree points to an external drive in some cases?  And if that doesn't work--I am willing to export and delete some of these photos.  However, an earlier delete left me with events that have a name in the event folder, but no photos.  Question 2 -- How do I properly delete photos so that all references disappear?
    example:

Warning: Time Machine is not an Archiving application. It keeps rolling back ups. That means if you delete something from the source Mac it will eventually be also deleted from Time Machine. How long that takes depends on the amount of disk space TM has. So, remember, backing up in Time Machine is not the same as Archiving.
For the blank thumbnails: This can happen if you try delete too many photos at one go. Experienced users suggest you should delete in batches of 100 or so.
Yes you can split the Library, where some of the Masters are stored locally and some on an external disk, but really, you don't want to do that. iPhoto's file management tools are limited at best, and if the path to the files changes then you could find yourself repairing the links to the files - all of them, one by one.
Better: Have your entire Library on an External Drive.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you want to have a smaller library on your internal disk:
Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

You can't fix it.  iTunes bought content is DRM protected. so it can only be played on authorized devices.  i.e devices associated with the apple Id used to purchase the content.  Its copyright protection that the rights owners demand.
Circumventing it, is illegal in most countries, and as such cannot be discussed here.  If you want to play the content you'll need to connect your computer directly to your TV, or use some other device you can authorize for iTunes content such as an iPad, iPhone , iPod touch or Apple Tv.

Also, when I add things to my desktop they are no longer showing up on my actual desktop. However, they are in the folder for my desktop on Finder. I'm not sure if these problems are related in any way.

  • I want to move a hard drive from one MacBook to a newer MacBook

I want to understand the full process I need to go through. Both MacBooks are running 10.6.8. The older MacBook A has a larger hard drive (new last year). I want to keep the newer MacBook B and put the newer hard drive in it. I also want to replicate the data from the older MacBook A onto the newer one...the data is already on the hard drive, but I assume I'll have to restore it after I move the drive into the newer computer. I will use Time Machine to move the data.
    Here are the specs:
    MacBook A:
MacBook running 10.6.8 with 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
contains the hard drive I want to move
    MacBook B:
MacBook running 10.6.8 with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I want to move the hard drive and data here
    1. Will this work? What would happen if I just moved the hard drive and turned on MacBook B? I'm assuming that's not a good option, but am I wrong?
    2. I have the original install DVD for 10.5.4 and a newer install DVD for 10.6.3. Do I need to use the original disk and then update. or can I start with 10.6.3?
    3. Is it safe to assume that if I back up MacBook A using Time Machine I will be able to restore it onto MacBook B once I move the hard drive and re-install the operating system?
    4. Should I wipe the hard drive before I move it?
    5. I plan to put MacBook B's hard drive into MacBook A, reinstall the op sys, and sell it. Will it be compatible? It comes from a faster machine.
I can get info on the physical aspects of moving the drives on YouTube, so I'm really more interested in how to make sure I get the operating system and data parts right.
Thanks for any and all help. Step by step instructions would be awesome!
    Jeannie

    1.  What would happen if I just moved the hard drive and turned on MacBook B? I'm assuming that's not a good option, but am I wrong?
I can see no reason why this would not work. I would try it.
What you do next depends on the results of this test.
    2. You do not need to go back to 10.5, except when you are selling A.
    3. Yes. If you reinstall the OS on B, during set up you can transfer data from a TM back up.
    4. Since you plan to reinstall the OS after the drive is in place, I would not erase before the transfer. That will give you a chance to test the transplant before you reinstall. You can of course wipe the drive just before you start the install.
    5. No problem. Drives don't care about a machine's processor speed.

  • TS4124 I have the cloud icon next to music heading in iTunes, not individual songs, am I waiting for something???

I have match, I have a cloud on my heading music in iTunes, I have no music on iPhone other than my past purchases and apps. Am I waiting for something to happen in iTunes with this cloud? I don't have clouds next to songs, I can't download anything even though match is on all devices. Please help.

The small cloud icon to the right of your songs means the song is not stored on you devices drive, not that it was uploaded to iCloud.  You can listen to that song, but it's being streamed.  If you tap on the small cloud icon it should download the song onto your devices hard drive.  Once you do that the icon should not reappear again.

lost all of my data on iphone and have no cloud back up how can i get my data back

iOS devices do backup automatically to iCloud providing:
    iCloud Backup is turned on
    It has a Wi-Fi connection
It is connected to a power source
    The screen is off
5GB is plenty of storage for me to backup to iCloud automatically.
I have a 64GB iPhone & a 128GB iPad both backing up to the same iCloud account and I still have nearly 2GB free.
This is mainly because media is not backed up and Photo Stream & iTunes purchases do not count against your iCloud storage.
    Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksYour iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. • ITunes 11 - Get Info greyed out for movies on external drive

With iTunes 10, my itunes movies and TV shows grew to about 1.2TB of data, and I shifted them to an external drive.
I was able to edit the information via 'get info' until upgrading to iTunes 11.
Now all the information, bar the 'five stars' field are greyed out. If I shift a particular movie back to the internal drive, I can edit (genre, for example). Shift away again, get info greys out.
Any advice? It feels like iTunes thinks it has the wrong permissions.

When you add a movie to iTunes you have to make sure it makes a copy of the file in the iTunes Media folder.  Otherwise, you can't edit any of the information on the movie or video.
In iTunes 12, go to Edit-->Preferences
In Preferences, go to Advanced and make sure the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library".
Unfortunately, you will now have to re-import the movie files into iTunes using "Add File To Library..." Once imported, the movie will sometimes appear under "Home Movies" instead of "Movies" but if you right click on the movie file it will list a menu item called "Get Info" where you can change the "Options" to "Movie".
    Hope that helps.

  • Elements 12 "Copy/Move to Removable Drive"

Reference case # 185684196, phone support given last year, the problem persists.  In Elements 12, on my desktop PC (Windows 7, 64 bit) - I import photo files into the organizer, from camera card (RAW files, Nikon), THEN use the "Copy/Move to Removable Drive" function to move these files to a external hard drive (RAID 1 configuration) for permanent storage.  When I run this process, it initially moves the files to the destination drive -- then a dialogue asks (approximately):  are you sure you want to delete these files? (from the desktop drive) -- I click "yes" -- a progress bar runs -- and near completion, the process fails "Elements Organizer - An error occurred while reading files or writing files to disc.  The disc may be full or there may be a problem with the source media."  In fact, there is a great amount of disc space available at the destination drive.  My wife and I use (for many years) this program for semi-professional purpose.  It is CRITICAL to avoid any corruption -- the indexing / connection between the organizer thumbnail reference images and the externally stored image files MUST be properly maintained.  What is causing this error message, what must be done to resolve the issue?  I couple of times, when this has occurred, I went to the storage drive, manually deleted the just-imported files, ran the process again -- and, on this 2nd attempt, the process completed successfully.  Obviously, this is not a long-term solution, nor a proper procedure -- and I always worry some sort of corruption may be introduced -- so, please advise the correct solution.  Also -- I have been advised, and do practice, not allowing the catalogue to grow beyond 5,000 images (I then start a new catalogue).  With the current, large batch of photos I'm importing (over 300 images), I'm also getting an "advice" message to back up the catalogue -- something I think I will do, to a different external drive, to have redundancy beyond even the present RAID 1 storage - however, this in no way solves the problem I'm asking you to help

I don't know how you managed to write in such a tiny font, but I managed to read your post and here is my take about your problems.
1 - What's the purpose of uploading from your card to your internal drive and not directly in your external NAS drive, since you don't keep them on your internal drive? You can use Windows to copy from your card to the NAS. You can even set the default location where the photo downloader in the Organizer sends your pictures. I don't have a NAS, but that works perfectly on an external USB drive.
2 - Reminder: the Organizer does not store picture files, only links to their real location (drive and path, that can be on an external drive). The catalog itself by default is on your boot drive, but it can be used on an external drive (not on a NAS for Macs).
3 - If you want to move files from your internal drive to the external one, you can simply use the drag and drop method in the left Folders panel. You can also 'export' selected files in the organizer to another drive.
4 - The advice to limit the catalog size to 5,000 items and split catalogs is stupid. There are happy users of 100,000 pictures, and splitting catalogs only creates organizing problems without any real advantage.
5 - About storing catalogs and photos on a network drive: http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Storing_the_catalog
6 - What about your backup procedures? Do you use the built-in backup/restore feature in Elements? If you use another external backup, how do you backup catalogs?
