Movies on the Nano

I am wondering if there is a way to put a movie we own on my sons nano so he can watch it while traveling. We have a large collection of movies and don't want to have to purchase them from the iTunes store just to get them on the nano. Thanks for the help.

Realisticaly, though, it depends on the rights' holders.
If you can load purchased CD's to your Library, how can you load DVD's in the same way so that you can watch them?
As I mentioned above, in the U.S., legally, you can't. Because Apple is a U.S. company and these forums are hosted out of the U.S., we can't discuss software or methods of copying commercial DVDs. Sorry.

I know you can watch movies on the iPod video, but i wasnt sure if i'd be wasting my money on buying a movie from the itunes store and not being able to watch it.

The iPod nano does not support video. The processor is not strong enough, along with other things.
Also, do not try iPod Linux, even though you might hear that its awesome.
1. Even iPod Linux does not support iPod nano downloads.
2. Voids any Warranty you have on yoru iPod.
3. Not unusual for it to leave your iPod as a large domino, and with no warranty, you're out of luck.

Hello
Tap the screen when playing a song and you should see playback options and tap the repeat until it is white. When it is blue it on repeat and if it has a 1 on it then it is repeating the same song over and over again.

I just tried in my ipod nano 7th Gen syncing a video from iTunes. The format that the ipod nano will accept is Any QuickTime-compatible video (such as H.264 or MPEG-4). I have an mp4 format movie and I just transferred it to iTunes. Before I synced, I went to "movies" and selected the movie for syncing. After syncing, I tried to play it in nano and it was succesful. So I suggest to convert the movie that you have to the format I mentioned before you sync it to your nano. I hope I was able to help you in this way instead. Cheers!

You'll want to read about the playback controls on page 21 of your iPod's User Guide, specifically the fast forward and rewind controls.

You can put the songs that on your iPhone onto your Nano as long as these songs are located in the iTunes library on the laptop. If they are not you will not be able to sync them to the Nano and you will not be able to copy them directly from the iPhone to the Nano.

I lose wireless connectivity when I connect the nano to my PC

I have a DSL modem connected by ethernet cable to a Linksys wireless router. My PC has USB linksys antenna. The wireless connection works fine except when I plug in the Nano, it takes about two seconds and I lose the connection to the router. If we are in itunes downloading it is suspended. If we are on the internet the next click and the Microsoft "you are not connected to the internet" page comes up. To reestablish the internet connection I have to remove the nano and reboot the PC. Needless to say this is very frustrating.
If I reboot with the cable attached I get an error unable to run an ____.exe that I believe is the antenna setup because the linksys monitor stays gray in the startup box.
I have tried to move the antenna to a different USB port on the PC with no luck. Everything else runs fine.
Does anyone out there have any ideas/fixes? - Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

I had my ipod with autosync off ... I set it "manage like disk" .
I try to recover the music with 2 programs: "ephod" and "copy trans" ..
I can see all the songs listed, but can´t backup to disk or recover them......
I see than my ipod hasn´t the folder "ipod_control" , which appears before I had this problem....

Cannot Add Playlists or Movies to New Nano-iTunes "Creates" a New Device

I just purchased a new Nano and I am trying to get it work with iTunes 7.4.1.2 properly. When I connected the Nano, it created a new playlist named after the name I gave the Nano. Everything that is added to this playlist syncs fine. However, when I try to add any other playlists through the Music tab for this device and then re-sync, I get two error messages - "The iPod cannot be synced. The required disc cannot be found" and "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
When these error messages happen, I notice that there is a second Nano appearing under devices (I only own one). This second Nano only has a Summary tab but the serial number is the same as the primary Nano showing up under "Devices."
I have tried everything I can think of. I disconnected and reconnected. I restarted iTunes. I rebooted the computer. I tried Restoring the iPod as suggested. Nothing works and I keep ending up at this same point.
It will also not let me add any video content (Movies, TV) or podcasts, giving me the same error messages above. Photos does work when I set it up adding the folder I want when first connecting the Nano.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am running the latest version (7.4.1.2) on a Sony Vaio running Windows XP.

But will I lose all my contacts (the ones I've added recently) and apps.
If I go back to an older ID, I might lose all my recent stuff with the new ID?

Even though the screen on the Nano is small, I would still welcome video playback. I don't think copying full DVD's onto the Nano is practical given the storage size unless there is a way to compress video/DVD content to be loaded on to the Nano. You would be able to hold maybe 1 or 2 full DVD movies plus your music library. The new video iPod and regular iPods have much larger storage for things like full quality audio and video.
I welcome the ability to play Quick Time content, though.
Have a lot of video/movies in QT format and the sound would probably be great over headphones.
I do not regret buying a Nano, though. The Nano is an impressive piece of technology and still a good-looking device for playing any audio/video/image content.
I hope apple does release a firmware updater to recent iPods for video playback.
This would just make the Nano even more slicker device.

The iPod video is the only iPod at present that play movies.

Is it truth, that iTunes 6 will transport video data to the iPod only over a USB 2 - port??? Won´t believe in...
My antique iMac G4 only contain USB 1.1 ports and it´s not upgradeable. Why Apple terminated the connect-ability via Firewire???
In case of not solving this cardinal problem I´ll return the iPod to Apple!

The nano can have data transferred to it through a USB 1.1 port, it's just slower than USB 2.0, and the nano can store video files as a USB drive, but you can't play them on the nano.
So if you want to use the nano to move video files from one location to another you can, but that's about as far as a nano goes with video using Apple's software.

So is this an Apple thing...no way to set seconds on the Nano (or iPhone I believe)?

@convergentus, a couple of options for you :
- Your nano will always reset it's time to the one on the Mac/PC when you perform a sync so if you set up your Mac/PC to a standard time source, or manually set the time to what you want, just perform a sync
If you wish to set the time with out performing a sync you could :
- Goto Settings, General, Date & Time,Time and move the minutes wheel to one minute ahead.
- Watching the time source you wish to use as the correct time (speaking clock, atomic clock, radio time check etc) wait until it clicks over to the new minute and click the Done button on the nano.

There are several third party applications available to help convert your movies to a more iPod friendly format. Here are a few.

Once you have the videos in an iPod friendly format, import it into iTunes, configure your iPod to sync videos, and then be on your way.

Just wanted to know what the music player is like. I love my Ipod Shuffle but need so much more space for my tunes. It is simple to use, I clip it on and can suffle songs easy and move on to the next track easily but I am not sure how the music player works on the Nano 6gen.
Is it easy to upload individual songs rather than uploading the full album?
Can it shuffle songs?
How easy is it to move on to the next track?
I am only buying it for the music player and not interested in the other features. Perhaps you could recommend something else?

I had the same issue. What I did was save the movies on a thrid-party app like Download Manager Lite. Once downloaded, go back to itunes, go to your iDevice, go to apps and transfer the app, then scroll down and click on the app and from there you can send the movies to that app and WILL play. Can only hold up to 8 videos/movies (this is for iPod Touch 3G or better, iPhone 3s or better, iPad requires iOS 4.3 or better)

If your just putting them on iTunes, it should show and play on iTunes no problem.
