Movies purchased on gen2 apple tv dont show up on gen1 movie list

All movies purchased on gen 1 apple tv show up on gen 2, but movie purchased on gen 2 does not show up on gen 1.
Frustrating! Any ideas or advice appreciated.

Please understand I am a frustrated customer like you, , but the availability of movies that have been shown before is dependant on licencing from the rights owners. Sky quite rightly have to pay the film studios for the ability to show to Sky's customers. As I understand it they purchase the right for a period of time, hence when the right expires then it has to be removed. The costing of the movies does reflect on the anticipated popularity of the programme, hence an older less popular movie might seem expensive but if not many people watch and pay that would be right. The apparent silliness of having movies in the store and on demand, allows those people who do not have a movie subscription to rent the movie on a one off basis. I agree that Sky seem to be licencing some programmes for shorter periods and it really upsets me when movies appear in buy and keep but not available to rent only. I recently queried Sky about Fortitude being available in OnDemand until 2022!, then of course found out that Sky owns the rights of the series. I can only say be careful if you are a movies subscriber and wish to watch a movie, not to select the Sky Store version if it is available in the Movies on Demand section. I recently wanted to watch a film that I found in Sky store at a cost, and just to be sure I searched for it and found it was to be shown on Channel 4 in a few days. I don't think we'll ever understand how such decision are made as to how long they licence movies for and how the charging model works with the film studios. Logically you would think that a smallish fee to have available indefinately and to pay the studio fee based on the number of rentals would be better, but that might be difficult to administer and Sky would have to have extra server storage fees, which they outsource. Yes, if the movie has been downloaded to the iPad, then you can watch it without Wi-Fi.

A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

Movies purchased directly to Apple TV through Itunes - question

I have three of the original Apple TV units that I have previously used just for my kids shows they like to watch over and over. Well, we are now downloading movies. The hard part is this: The Apple TV unit we downloaded several movies to (purchases, not rentals) does not update to Itunes. Itunes wants to charge us for the movie again if we try to download it there. The Apple TV unit that we downloaded these movies does not update to the Itunes library. I have looked and looked through topics here and have not found how to copy or back up movies that are downloaded on the apple tv unit directly. What am I missing? I want to be able to use them on any of my apple tv units and view them on iPhone and itouch.

Can't see movies purchased on my Apple TV on my iTunes

I've purchased a number of movies on 2nd Gen Apple TV, and they are visible there. Since I use the same iTunes account on my Mac, I would have thought I'd see them as available on my Apple iTunes account. What's up?

Purchases made on Apple TV not showing up on my computer

I have had this problem before. I guess I need to stop buying movies on my Apple TV. After I bought a movie on my Apple TV, I wanted to put it on my Macbook Pro to take with me. It is not in my movie folder. I have tried checking for available downloads in the store tab and nothing is found. I tired logging out and back in and still nothing, Any ideas? Like I said, I had this problem once before, but I can't remember what I did to remedy it.

Were all the purchases made using the same Apple ID? iTunes purchases are shared cross device via their servers. Home Sharing will only work if the media is on your computer and the ATV is viewing it, it won't work the other way round. If it was a movie, first, check the settings in the ATV and your iPad to ensure the Apple IDs match. Then, open the videos app on your iPad (blue clapper board), the movies should be there, if not, go to the Store by tapping it in the top left of the app. Then, along the bottom, go to 'Purchased', and tap either Movies/Music/TV Programmes from along the top, depending on what you're looking for. They should be there. If they're not, you'll want to contact iTunes Support as it will be an issue with your account. Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
    1.    Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
    2.    Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
    3.    Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    4.    Open iTunes.
    5.    Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

Films can't be redownloaded in all countries, and even where they can be not all studios have agreed to it and studios could also remove their films from the store (if some films show for redownloading but others don't then check to see if any are hidden). If you haven't got copies of them on your computer/device nor on your backup of your downloads and they are still in your country's store, then you could try contacting support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

Apple TV only shows "Summary" & "Photos" not Movies, Music etc.

I just bought my third Apple computer, and I have turned off all access to apple TV, and I'm trying to sync some movies to the apple tv using new computer only, but it once connected it will only give me an "option" tab and a "summary" tab. How do I get my other tabs?

After several attempts of renting a movie directly on Apple TV (kept getting error for password that was entered correctly), decided to rent directly on the computer and watch via Apple TV. I go to Apple TV and my library is available (home sharing on) but don't see the rental anywhere. Do I need to move it on my computer from rentals to somewhere else?

Movies rented on the computer need to be fully downloaded before they will show up on the Apple TV.
