Movies - saving space on my HD

I download a lot of movies and have been saving them all to my hard drive. I'm noticing that I am running out of storage. I also noticed that my Apple TV streams the movies I've purchased. Can I delete the movies on my computer HD and still stream them on Apple TV?

You will want to double check this but somebody asked a similar question yesterday and in reading the web about this it seems that one of the few instances of true video streaming from the iTunes Store is to AppleTVs. However, I would still download files and archive them on an external hard drive. Do not reply upon the iTunes Store to serve as an archive. If a distributor decides to no longer make an item available it can disappear without warning from the Store and that's it, no more copy for you. If you have your own copy you will always have it. Even if you don't want to always have an archive drive attached to your computer for playback, download a copy to the drive when you buy a movie and put the drive in a closet. Then if the video streaming thing is correct, do that as a convenience only.

If you bought the machine new yourself, and did not enter a password when configuring it, leave the field blank.

Quicktime movie will move from "space" to "space" as I change?

I don't recall this happening before . . . but I could be wrong. I have a MacBook Pro (about a year old) running LION 10.7.2.
I've always preferred QT Pro to the QTX version apple has now. I have 4 SPACES (via Mission COntrol) made on my Mac. Interestingly, when I open a QT movie in "SPACES" 1 - all is well.
BUT . . . when I cycle thru SPACES 2, 3, and 4 - the QT movie jumps to the "new" SPACE?
That's the whole reason for having SPACES (I thought) to have a "clean" desktop. Is something wrong here - or does QT do that on all machines?

I don't actually know. But since the reference movie export only takes a few seconds and carries with it virtually no disk space penalty, and the QuickTime export gives me more control and gives me an opportunity to do some other stuff, I never really gave it much thought. I have no idea whether what you're experiencing is an Avid issue or a QuickTime issue, but there do sometimes seem to be some interaction issues between the two platforms. Most of the time I am inclined to blame Tewksbury instead of Cupertino, but that's just my personal bias.

Contribute 6.5 moves editing space to the right of the screen. Recently updated to 6.5 from CS5.
We are currently expanding our website and the issue we are experiencing happens on the demo site. CS 6.5 opens the old site fine.
When the pages were opened in CS4 prior to the upgrade the editing space was in the center where the body of the page would normally appear. Now, when I open the pages and the entire "body" is shifted into a narrow ~100 pixel column to the right of the website. This is inconsistent at best. Sometimes the page when edited will open normally, others it will not. Sometimes the header will appear as a graphic, and others it appears as text. All pages open and function properly in CS4.

The short of time dos not bode well
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Try dragging it onto the desktop first and if it still will not open try downloading MPEG Streamclip (free program) and try opening it and/or converting it to a format which will open such as .avi

Dv movie saved twice in imove

i imported dv movies from my old camcorder via firewire into imovie. now every movie is saved twice which needs too much space on my harddisk.
when i cancel one version and reopen imovie an automatic copy is saved again. how can i delete one version and free up some space on the harddisk?

Quicktime movies saved on mac have sound but no video in QTpro (windows)

I have QT files saved on a hard drive by someone on mac (hard drive formatted to be compatible with both mac and windows) The QT files wouldn't open initially, I upgraded to QT pro and now they open and play, but only sound, no video. When I try to import them into Adobe Premiere elements, i get a missing codec error message, but it doesn't tell me what codec I need.
Has anyone run into this problem and found a solution?

Open the file using QuickTime Player and then open the Movie Inspector window to view the codecs used.

Trim QuickTime movie in space, not time?

I know that the QuickTime X player can trim a movie in the time dimension, but is there any way to trim in the space dimension? For instance, if you do a screen recording, you may not really want the whole screen, just one window.

If you have Qt Pro, you can open the file and turn on a controller, then resave the file.

Applications move between spaces when connecting/disconnecting second display

During the day I'm constantly connecting/disconnecting/reconnecting my 2nd display to my Mac. When I do that a lot I see a few things happen:
- Applications move to different spaces
- One or two of my spaces dissappear
Has anyone come across this issue before and is there any solutions or options I can try out.

I just ran a hardware test (on ML you must hold down Option-D so it can access the hardware test bits via the 'net) and the test completed without finding any issues. I wonder if the issue has to do with switching between the integrated and discreet graphics.

Saving Space on HD Using iPhoto and Aperture3

Hello,
I wonder is there is a way that I could use the same space on the HD for both the iPhoto and Aperture3. I don't want to import my pictures from iPhoto because I feel it will duplicate and I'll lose space on the HD.
I read on the forum: "iPhoto and Aperture" that: "if you set iPhoto to referenced mode you won't even use extra disk space." Mr. Terance Devlin said it.

No they can't share the same Library. You can easily move your Previews to iPhoto (In iPhoto File -> Show Aperture Library and drag and drop). If you set iPhoto to referenced mode you won't even use extra disk space.

*How to do it:*
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
*What Happens:*
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
*Some things to consider:*
1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.
My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers

Space Bar Hand Move & CMD-Space Zoom Not Working-CS5 Part 2

Bug is where the Hand move (by holding down Space bar and dragging) stops working. Issue appears to be a conflict with web browsers.
This bug is still present in Photoshop version 12.1 (CS 5). I've just experienced it for the first time. I don't use Firefox, I use Safari and Chrome. Quitting Safari did not fix the problem. Quitting Chrome DID fix the problem.
Developers, please can you fix in next version, and Chris Cox, this IS a bug with Photoshop.

Space Bar Hand Move & CMD-Space Zoom Not Working-CS5

Today, all of a sudden, two of my most used functions—holding down the space bar to move the image around and holding down CMD-space bar to zoom—just up and quit on me (I do like the "Scrubby" but it took a little getting used to. It's very touch screen-esque).
I did all of the normal trouble shooting such as deleting the prefs, relaunching, restarting, etc. Nothing. The functions work fine in the other CS5 programs.
Anybody else come across this? I checked through all of the prefs thinking that perhaps I accidentally changed something but I couldn't find anything. If all else fails, I'll do an uninstall/reinstall but only as a last resort.
I did notice that Adobe finally fixed the Distort (in Full Screen Mode) bug that was killing me in CS4.

I don't believe it but I think that I finally found the culprit: hulu (the desktop app, not through a browser).
To make sure, I rebooted, launched PS, Flash, and InDesign, and then fired up every app that I could think of, one by one, testing each time, leaving hulu for last. Sure enough, it was not until I got to hulu that the space bar hand/zpom stopped working. And then I went one by one, quitting each app, testing each time, again leaving hulu till the last. Sure enough again, the space bar continued not working until I quit hulu, the very last app that I had running (aside from CS5 and system processes).
Please, please do not tell me that there is a conflict between CS5 and hulu's utilization of Flash! That would just make Mad Dog Jobs' a happy camper. (I am a big supporter of Flash on the iPad).
What a relief. Except how am I now going to watch my TV shows while working???
In regards to browser conflicts, I have had none with Safari, Firefox, or Chrome.

How can I easily move some space from NTFS to ext3 partition?

I am starting to run out of free space in my / directory. I've got home and / on separate partitions (sda7 and sda8, respectively) and would liek to subtract ~5GB of space from my NTFS 50GB partition (sda5) and move it to sda7. is it possible without losing any data?

One more thing - AFAIR, I tried to do that once some time ago (don't really remember it now) and it worked fine, but after the whole process after booting Linux fsck came up saying it needs to repair something. Don't really remember. Anyway, it said that automatic repair isn't possible and gave me a propt like this (similar, am not sure after all that time has passed):
"Sector 0000001 is broken, you want to repair it? [Y/n]"
after saying "Y" there was:
"Sector 0000002 is broken, you want to repair it? [Y/n]"
and so on. You get it. I held Y for something like 20mins, and without any way of knowing how many sectors were left, I wanted to put a weight on "Y" key and go to sleep. But I was afraid that at the end there would be a prompt like "This will erase all your data, are you sure you want to continue?" and was afraid to leave this.
I decided to reinstall then, and now I want to never have to do this again.
PS.: This may be because I did this with Pragon Partition Manager (the WinXP program) and not Gparted.
