Movies skip a few seconds forward before playing...

Hi,
I used the idvd "Revolution" theme to create a idvd project. I imported my movies, etc. When I tested the project with the virtual player everything ran smoothly, i.e. I click on a movie title> the movie begins to play (From the beginning)... no problem. After I burn the project>insert the finished disc> select a movie from the menu> The screen freezes for a second, seems to resize (narrow), then the movie plays... except it skips forward a second or two. I have an opening title card in the beginning of each movie. The title lasts about four seconds>fades out>movie plays. Now the title flashes on the screen for a fraction of a second before the movie plays. Also I have not had this problem with previous projects. I tried trashing the project and starting fom scratch but still the same jerky screen. Any help would be greatly appreciatd. thanks,

It only happens on mp3s not on AAC's to me too! Just so you all know. I thought an EXTERNAL DRIVE was my problem but after hours of research I found it's probably an intentional bug (just kidding Apple you don't hate other companies that much....geesh! ) It might not be this...but you never know.
I thought maybe it was the TAG but it seems this has nothing to do with it. Point is either Apple left a bug on the last update of itunes MP3s because to them it's less of a priority or it's being messed up by Amazon folders (still looking in to), or maybe there was a problem with the install.
So far my options are to get an MP3 to AAC convertor and dump my 3000 songs into a program for converting, wait for an update, reinstall, or keep looking for a missed solution.
Any help would be appreciated!!

  • Audio skips back few seconds while video freezes

    Hi,
We are running FMS 4.0 to stream on-demand MBR videos using the OSMF player. We have noticed that occasionally during playback the video freezes, while the audio skips back a few seconds and starts playing. Once the audio catches up, the video unfreezes and resumes normal playback.
Any ideas on what might be causing this and how to debug?
    Thanks.

I looked at the logs and it does look like there was switching going on when this issue occured.
Could you expand a bit more on what you mean by "switching issue" and "exact same timelines" ?
Also, how could I go about verifying that the different bitrate streams have the same "timelines"?
    Thanks,

  • Skipping last few seconds of random tracks

Question: why - after 8 months of people having trouble - has Apple not resolved the 'skipping last few seconds of tracks' problem?
I paid nearly £300 for my iPod Classic, and it's crazy that we have to put up with this situation still. The problem is NOT with the music files, or the iPods, but with iTunes itself.
I might also add I am not impressed with having my posts deleted when I am trying to 1) help other people with their skipping problems and 2) am having all attempts to communicate our problems to Apple ignored.
I have been polite about the situation, and do not see why my posts are all of a sudden being deleted almost instantly.
    Regards,
    - John

"Mugsy, what posts have you had deleted? Have you made more than 13 posts. I looked at your profile, and all of the posts I can remember seeing appear to be there."
Of course you can't see them, they've been deleted And as you haven't seen them you wouldn't know they'd ever existed. Haha no problemo it's not a big deal. I just find it verging on criminal than Apple still ignore this problem. Not a huge problem as I have my solution which has worked flawlessly, but does involve using another very popular music application and an iPod plug in...
I do routinely download the latest iTunes updates and run tests using files I know to be good, and - to date - I still get the skipping problems. So I always go back to my 3rd party software.
    Cheers mate,
    - john

  • HT203175 songs skip a few seconds at beginning of all songs.

songs skip a few seconds at beginning of all songs.

    Ristiina,
I don't think we understand your situation yet.
When you say "encoding," are you talking about ripping from CD, or about converting the format?
Are you trying to get AAC files (M4A as you refer to) or MP3 (as you also refer to)?
In the "few seconds" it is adding, do you hear silence, or is it repeating a section of the song?

  • Podcast skipping a few seconds at a time

When playing Tiesto's Clublife Podcast (I don't really play much else), the Podcast starts out OK with a small static-y type noise in the backround. As the podcast progresses (just checked in this instance ~12min in) it starts to rapidly play 3-4 seconds as if in fast forward, then stop for a second or two, then rapidly play a few seconds again repeatedly.
If I stop and replay the podcast from the beginning sometimes it plays fine, other times it continues to play in fast forward. If I hit pause and then play it still plays up.
Is this an easy answer? Or am I going to have to monitor the problem and get more info?

    Hey Sally,
We have an article that outlines a few troubleshooting steps if your Mac is running a bit slowly.
OS X Lion: If your Mac runs slowly
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3915
If you find your Mac is running slowly, check any open applications to make sure they’re compatible with your computer. Or you may need to increase your hard disk space or repair your hard disk.
An application you’re using may require more memory than your computer has. To see how much memory your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac. See the documentation that came with the application to find out what it requires. To find out how to increase your computer’s memory, see the documentation that came with it.
Quit any application that isn’t compatible with your computer. For example, an application may require a different processor or graphics card. See the documentation that came with the application to find out what it requires.
To see what processor your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac.
To see what graphics card your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, click More Info, and then click Displays.
There might not be enough free disk space on your computer’s startup disk. To make disk space available, you can move files to another disk and then delete files you no longer need on the startup disk.Increase disk space
Quit any applications you’re not using.
If none of these suggestions work, you may need to repair your computer’s disk in Disk Utility.Repair a disk
    Hope this helps,
    David

Hi I have a HP Pavilion G6 2288-ca with amd a10 vision processor. So I was playing some videos from youtube and the audio stoped and resumed a few seconds after.

    Now try a video.

  • ITunes 7 sometimes skips last few seconds of a song

It seems that whenever iTunes reaches the last 20 or so seconds of a song, it skis to the next song... it just cuts off, even when I have shuffle turned off (I'm loving this gapless feature though). Has this happened to anyone else?
iMac in reality, MacBook Pro in fantasy!   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   I graduated high school! U of Michigan, here I come!

That's what i figured, so if played with tha for a while to see if that helped, and it still cuts off the last few seconds. I even repaired all 'broken' permissions and still no progress. And it seems to happen sporadicly... has this happened to anyone else?

  • Songs skip after few seconds

Why do some song on my ipod skip after a few seconds?

For some unknown reason every once and a while a song will not "encode" properly when being converted into digital format (.mp3). This is the cause of the glitches that make the song skip past. This can be fixed by re-encoding the song at a different speed (The standard is 128kbps but can also be done at 160kbps and 192kbps in iTunes).
Now to re-encoding the glitched songs:
First off check the original encoding speed. This can be done by selecting the glitched song, right clicking and choosing the "Get Info" option and the bit-rate (encoding speed) will be in the summary tab. After you check the current encoding speed the settings for importing music into iTunes may need to be changed. You can change these by going into the "Edit > Preferences ~ Advanced tab > Importing tab" once here simply change the box labeled "Import Using" from "AAC Encoder" to "MP3 Encoder". Now all that needs to be done is to change the bit-rate. Choose one of the bit-rates from the "Setting" box that is different from the current bit-rate of the skipping song. Once the setting is chosen click "Ok" and then go to the "Advanced" menu and there should be an option to "Convert Selection to MP3". Now it is as simple as selecting the affected song and then going into the advanced menu and choosing the "Convert Selection to MP3" option to fix your glitched tunes! Every song that is converted using this will be encoded with the bit-rate chosen in the earlier stages.
Hopefully this helps, good luck re-encoding =)

  • TS3623 Why is it when I rent a movie from Apple it takes all night to load & then when I try to play it has to load again? Netflix just takes a few seconds to load & play In the same [Apple ] device !

Why is it when I rent a movie from Apple it takes all night to load & when I try to play it starts to load again for a while before it plays ? Netflix loads & plays in seconds [ usually] in the same device!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
One of the main reasons this occurs is because Netflix uses a feature called adaptive quality and iTunes uses a fixed quality. Netflix is able to reduce its quality to such an extent when it detects that you have a poor Internet connection that the data rate of the movie is as low as 0.5 Mb per second, on the other hand if you have chosen to view an HD movie from iTunes U have chosen a movie with a data rate as high as 5 Mb per second.

  • ITunes takes a few seconds to start playing MP3 files

I just started using this new MacBook Pro and transfered my music library to the new laptop. I'm having a problem with iTunes playing MP3 files: when I double click on a MP3 track iTunes seems to freeze for like 3 - 4 seconds before the track starts playing and then it plays normally without a hitch. This is happening with each and every MP3 track that I have in the library as well as new MP3 tracks that I'm adding. Th short delay/freeze also occurs when I try to view or alter the info of an MP3 track in the library, so that when I right click on a track and click Get Info, the 'Get Info' screen will take about 3 - 4 seconds to show up and the same freeze happens when I click OK to close the 'Get Info' screen.
Note that this happens only with MP3 tracks. Tracks purchased from the iTunes store (AAC) do not have this problem and start playing without any delay/freeze.
Another weird tidbit: When MP3 tracks are in the same playlist (or album) and I let them play one after another (without me skipping to the next/previous song) then the delay/freeze does not occur at all. This delay seems to just happen when I start playing a song or when I click the fast forward/Rewind buttons to skip to the next/previous track.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? And if a fix is available somewhere? Thanks in advance!

  • How to skip a few seconds via keyboard?

I play audio using a laptop and itunes (windows) in my car, and I am used to a feature in winamp that allowed me to press my left/right arrow keys on the keyboard to move through the audio 10 seconds at a time -- is there a way to do this in itunes? I found an applescript for mac to do this, but of course this is windows...

Ok, I came up with a solution myself - I used a program called 'autoit' http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/ , and created a script that runs in the background looking for the arrow keys on the keyboard to be pressed - if up is pressed, it plays, if down is pressed it pauses, if right is pressed it fast forwards about 5-7 seconds, if left is pressed it rewinds 5-7 seconds -- it is not a perfect solution, but it works for me... the autoit script uses wscript (built into windows xp) to run a vbs that I found here: www.maximized.com/freeware/scriptsforitunes/
So create a folder, put all the .vbs scripts in it from that url, then create a .au3 file (autoit script) with a text editor such as notepad, in the folder, and put in the script below, and save. If autoit is installed properly you can right click the .au3 file you created/saved and choose compile. Now you have an exe that you can double click, and your arrow keys should work!:
    Global $Paused
    HotKeySet("{RIGHT}", "DoFastForward")
    HotKeySet("{LEFT}", "DoRewind")
    HotKeySet("{UP}", "DoPlay")
    HotKeySet("{DOWN}", "DoPause")
    While 1
    Sleep(100)
    WEnd
    Func DoPlay()
    Run("wscript.exe Play.vbs")
    EndFunc
    Func DoPause()
    Run("wscript.exe Pause.vbs")
    EndFunc
    Func DoFastForward()
    Run("wscript.exe FastForward.vbs")
    Sleep(100)
    Run("wscript.exe Play.vbs")
    EndFunc
    Func DoRewind()
    Run("wscript.exe Rewind.vbs")
    Sleep(100)
    Run("wscript.exe Play.vbs")
    EndFunc

  • Playback stops after a few seconds when pressing Play

Problems with  getting files to play in Premiere. I can  import the files just fine. Its when I click  the play  icon or even the spacebar that causes an issue. If it plays it will only be like for 1-3 seconds. Then  it stops. After which I have to  press play again. Though the playback is not always guaranteed.  I can even skip ahead in the playback, but sadly the results are the same.

    Hi Mackterrance9,

  • QT7 Pro Not recording whole movie. (only a few seconds)

I hit New Movie Recording and Quicktime record for a while. When I hit the stop record button it gives me dialog box asking me if I want to keep the recording (it wasn't doing this a few weeks ago). When I select that I want to keep the movie it save it. The problem is is that it is only keeping about 10 - 60 seconds of the recording! I can't find what is causing this. I've repaired permissions. I've deleted all of the preference files for QT. I've run Drive Genius on my hard drive. There aren't any problems found when run. There aren't any other posts that I can find to fix this problem. Help!
I'm using a new G5 20" iMac with the iSight built in. I had QT 7.4 (??? Latest version), and now have moved back to 7.1.1 and it didn't help.
    Thanks in advance.

If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them.  Let them deal w/it.

  • Quicktime Plugin/Firefox stops playing mp3 after a few seconds

We've run into a problem with Quicktime Player in Firefox (Win XP) only playing the first few seconds of an mp3. It doesn't happen with all mp3s, but out of the five we've tested four showed this problem... only one of the five played through to the end.
When accessing the mp3 file, quicktime plugin loads with the big Q, takes a few seconds (i.e. seems to be downloading the full file), displays the controller, then starts playing. The progress bar moves quickly to the right and stops when it reaches the far right. For some of the mp3s it's only a second or two, for one it is about 8 seconds. The ones that only play for a second or two are regular music mp3s of about 3-5 minutes in length. The one that plays 8 seconds, is really 17 minutes, 42 seconds long.
All of these seem to play fine with the Quicktime plugin in IE. And all the files play fine in iTunes and Quicktime as local files as well as streaming.
The music files are mp3s generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function (original files are m4a files from the iTunes store).
The longer file (a podcast) was generated by a third party, so I'm not sure what tools were used to generate it, however I've tested two versions generated by iTunes that also did not play past 8 seconds:
    - Original encoding with ID3 tags converted to a different version by iTunes
    - New encoding generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function
(FWIW, renaming the files doesn't make a difference either.)
I have confirmed that this is happening for a colleague of mine on his computer as well.
Reloading the page/mp3 file (F5), force-reload (control-F5), disabling the cache (using Web-Developer Plugin, or Firebug), clearing the cache (through Firefox's Options->Advanced->Network->Offline Storage settings, or through "Clear Recent History") ... none of these seem to make a difference.
However, I did notice that for the files that weren't working, using Firebug's Net panel, it looks like the plugin starts *and finishes* playing the file before the file is completely downloaded (i.e. the player stops playing and the Net panel still shows the file downloading -- usually for a few seconds more before it is completely downloaded).
(And now the one mp3 file that was playing fine is no longer playing. It too just plays a second or two then stops...)
This is with Firefox 3.6.3 and Quicktime Plugin 7.6.6 on Windows XP Pro.
