Movies & TV in Canadian iTunes?

I live in Canada, and apparently the Canadian iTunes doesn't sell movies or TV show episodes.
Is Apple planning on adding these for Canadian customers? If so, when? If not, why not? Canadians watch movies and TV too!
I also just bought a new iPod Nano with video, and I'd like to be able to watch more on it than just some 5-minute podcasts.
Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

My fellow Canadian,
It's got to do with the business part of the entertainment business.
The short answer is that Apple hasn't negotiated an agreement to sell television shows with the Canadian rights-holders ... whosoever they might be.
Because copyrights "are national and therefore specific rights are tied to national laws and the interpretations of national courts" (This Business of Music (10th Edition) by M. William Krasilovsky and Sydney Shemel), the rights to sell movies, television shows or what have you have to be negotiated on a country by country basis with the rights-holders ... or possibly those to whom the rights have been licensed.
That's the main reason why different countries have separate iTunes Stores.
As a matter of historical interest, some of the oldtimers here at the Discussions can tell you about a time when, get this, there was a US iTS but no Canadian Store. That's right, we couldn't even buy a lousy song in the true North, strong and free.
But once a deal was made between Apple and the record companies who controlled Canadian territory, the iTunes Store opened in Canada.
Similarly, once Apple reaches a deal with the tv/movie people for Canadian rights, you can expect to find those products for sale at your favorite on-line record store.
As for when that might happen, only time will tell but you might want to submit the form on this Apple Support page and contact the entertainment producers in question to let them know what you'd like to buy.
Who knows, it just might encourage the parties to reach an agreement.

  • How to purchase "Movies" through the Canadian iTune store?

Could some one please tell me how to purchase a "movie" through the Canadian iTunes store?
The "Movies" icon only available in the United States iTune store. I tried to set up an account through this US store but was unable due to "no option" for Canadian address.
Back to Canadian iTune store page, but there are no "movies" available for purchase and download.
    Please help.

At present movies are only available in the US iTunes store. There are a variety of reasons for this including copyright and licensing issues in different countries.
You cannot purchase anything from an iTunes store outside of the country in which you live as mentioned in the Terms of Sale.
"You agree not to use or attempt to use the Service from outside of the available territory, and that iTunes may use technologies to verify your compliance."
The Terms of Use for the iTMS state that you agree that you won't attempt to make purchases from outside the store's country. The chance is small that Apple will cut off your account, but just be aware that it is possible. They certainly won't support your use of the US iTMS from Canada if you do have any problems.

  • Wheres the movies in the canadian itunes

The lack of Movies and TV shows is not unique to Canada by any means. The reason that stores for different countries have different content is due to restrictions placed on Apple by the record companies, film companies, TV companies and other copyright holders. These are quite often completely different from country to country and therefore all require their own individual contract negotiations. The varying content is not imposed by Apple, who would have a much easier job if they only had to maintain one multi-national store and deal with one set of licensees. I believe the plan that was announced when the Movies were introduced is to roll them out to other stores sometime this year. However whether or even if the Canadian and UK stores etc. get them in what's left of 2007 will depend on the negotiations with the film distributors for each region.

  • Where do you go to download movies in the Canadian itunes store! HELP!!!!!!

I can't find any movies to download in the canadaian itunes store! please tell me there are ones i can download or i will be uber upset! please someone help me.. where do I go?

Due to restrictions placed by the copyright holders on Apple, movies are only available in the US store at this time. Steve Jobs has said that movies should be available outside the US sometime in 2007, but no exact timeframe has been given.
As a new poster, you may want to try the "search" window in the upper right corner to see if your question has been asked previously. This question about movies in the Canadian store has literally been asked & answered dozens of times, this week alone.

  • How to get to Movie Trailers from Canadian iTunes store?

It's been a while since I logged in to the iTunes store to watch a movie trailer, so at first (after searching all over the "home" page) when I couldn't find the link anymore, I assumed that maybe they had removed Theatrical trailers from the store all together. But, when I went to the Quicktime site, there is a link to High-Def trailers for the iTunes store!
Anyway, after scrounging around a bit, it seems that in the U.S., because there is a "Movies" link on the home page, which then leads to a "Theatrical Trailers" link, it is possible to get to the trailers. In the Canadian version, there is no "Movies" link, and no way of getting to the trailers (besides logging out of your account, switching countries, etc. etc.)
Am I missing something or is this a mistake?
Any help would be appreciated - maybe there is an obvious link I am missing.

  • I have a Canadian credit card but a Korean address only. Can I switch to the Canadian iTunes Store to purchase a movie?

I have a Canadian credit card but not a Canadian address. My address is in South Korea. I want to purchase a movie from the iTunes Store, but I cannot currently because there is no Korean iTunes Store. May I switch to the Canadian iTunes Store with a Canadian credit card and a Korean address? Or how can I gain access to the Canadian iTunes Store?

The iTunes Store in a country is intended for use only by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.

  • I have a Canadian iTunes account how can I redeem an iTunes HD code

I have a Canadian iTunes account how can I redeem an iTunes HD code that I received from an Amazon purchase. I tried to redeem it and it says that it is a US code only. I have heard you can create a new account with an American billing address and redeem it that way. But could I also change my current account to an American address (I have a US shipping address) redeem the code and switch back to the Canadian address or would I lose the digital copy. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have an Apple TV and would rather not have to log in and out just to watch movies.

You can't redeem it except in a US iTunes account. Since you got it from Amazon I would return it and ask them to replace it with one from the CAD store.
If you have a US iTunes account then you can switch to the US Store and redeem it there.

I have looked at changing my store in the settings menu, but I am finding that I actually need to have an address in Canada.
    Is that correct?
    Many thanks

You can only download stuff from your own country iTunes, App and iBook Store.

  • Downloading movies & tv shows from iTunes shops other than the US

I download from the Danish & Canadian iTunes stores. I was just wandering if any time soon we who download from the other iTunes stores will get the opportunity to download movies & tv shows.
I am feeling really left out!!!!!! : (

The usual answer is that the copyright holders are holding the cards. It is their decision as to what can be sold in which iTS. I am sure that Apple would love to have just one store for everyone.
No one knows when video and TV Shows will be available in iTS other than the US.

  • Purchasing movies/tv shows in itunes (Canada)

How do I purchase movies or tv shows in the Canadian itunes store? I don't see anything available except for the Pixar movies. Is this possible??

Sorry, but as has been said here many times already, the movie studios have not licensed Apple to sell movies outside of the US. There's nothing Apple can do unless and until they're granted the rights. When, or indeed if, this will happen, no one can say, though Apple has said that they hope to be able to offer movies internationally sometime in 2007.
As to TV shows, there have been no indications if, much less when, the show owners will ever license Apple to sell them in Canada.
Again, sorry, but we'll all just have to wait and see.

  • I just noticed that some of the movies I had in iTunes did not get transferred to the iPhone. The missing movies are shown as generic movie icons in the iTunes panel. How do I get the original movies to show up again and transfer to the iPhone?

I just noticed that some of the movies I had in iTunes did not get transferred to the iPhone 5. The missing movies are shown as generic movie icons in the iTunes panel and are checked to select them. But they do not show up in iPhone Videos. How do I get the original movies to show up again and transfer to the iPhone? I recently upgraded Mac OS to 10.6.8

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.
