Movies won't play after update to iPhone 2.1 Software

Help. I updated my 16GB iPod Touch with the iPhone 2.1 software to support applications. But now, when I go back and try to play my mp4 and m4v movie files on my iPod touch, they won't play. When I try to play them I get a warning that says "this movie could not be played". Videos I purchased from iTunes continue to play just fine.
Is this a new anti-piracy thing or something like that or am I having a problem with the iPhone 2.1 software? If I knew I wouldn't be able to watch my old movies and TV shows, I wouldn't have upgraded to 2.1.

Just a quick update on my issue... which seems different than most. To summarize, I tried updating from iTunes 10.6 directedly via USB. Got an empty progress bar when it "rebooted" after "successfully updating" to 5.1 with a memory allocation bar on itunes showing most the memory as allocated to "other", instead of the usual memory allocation to apps, music, pcits, etc. Rebooted the phone, but still came up with an empty progress bar, but would connect to itunes.. showing booted as 5.1, but again the memory was still allocated to "other". Started recovery process on itunes to try to bring back my old config, after which the iphone fully booted (into 5.1), but was completely.... recovered and re-installed all my apps, music, etc without a hitch and rebooted successfully, this time the memory allocation was correctly labeled, but somewhere I gained 2.0 GB of memory, even with all the same apps and music installed. I had to do some minor additional configurations (password lock had to be re-enabled), but otherwise, everything was working. A bunch of apps lost their stored settings... which I though strange as I expected the "backups" to store those settings as well. Otherwise, running 5.1 now without issues... seems much snappier than 5.0.1... but the process was nerve racking to say the least.
Best of luck with other "explorers" tyring to make the whole process work.

ITunes movies won't play after backing up library

I recently ran out of hard drive space on my macbook pro so I decided to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive to make space. Since doing so the movies that I bought on Itunes won't play. Everything else is fine. The music plays but the TV shows and movies won't play. There was an error message the first time that I tried to play it but I have never seen it again and I didn't write it down. Something about a file missing. Has anyone successfully fixed a similar problem?

iTunes prefs - Reset warnings.
Double click a movie to play it.
When it comes up and asks if you want to locate it, click Yes, then go to /iTunes/iTunes media/Movies on the external and find the movie.

Videos won't play after update

Updated iPad 1 to OS 4.3.3 and now all iTune videos won't play. Screen goes black and then resets with "Unable to play this video" message. Any way to fix without downloading 50gb of movies again?

Not sure if this was the fix but the problem was resolved. I was also having App store sync problems so I rebooted the iPad (hard reboot) and then immediately went to app store any updated all apps (video player want one of them) and after it was complete I did another hard boot/reset. When the iPad restarted I immediately went into the video player and Problem Solved! Nt sure how it resolved itself but it works without reloading the files. Never connected to my laptop or resync'dthe iPad but just did an update to all of my apps from the App store (there were 11 to update). Good luck with it.

Burned CDs won't play after updating to 6.0

After updating to 6.0 and 6.01 the CDs I burn won't play in my car stereo. This was never a problem prior to the updates.
I double checked everything I could think of and am burning them to CD-Rs and have audio CD selected on my burning preferences. I have even tried using several different brands of CD and using a slower burning speed.
Any ideas?

absolutely nothing.All the controls are normal. When i try to double click a track to play it just highlights the track. When i use the play button, it operates but no track plays. Even in purchased tracks it won't play! There are one or two tracks that will play normally but they are random ones. Have tried the suggestion that are recommended but with no success.

Movies won't play since update to Snow Leopard.

After updating from Tiger to Snow Leopard I can no longer play movies in iPhoto, I double click the movie but nothing happens. I imported one to iMovie & it plays OK there so what has gone wrong in iPhoto?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Some QuickTime movies won't play after 10.4.4 upgrade

Hi,
I recently upgraded to 10.4.4 and now some QuickTime movies - mostly from Safari won't play any more. I do online training and none of those QuickTime movies will play. They load perpetually. They also work fine on my other machine (which I haven't upgrade from v10.4.3 yet)
According to System Profiler, I'm running QuickTime 7.0.0 - but I can't find 7.0.1 in the Apple downloads section. I'm not even sure if that will help.
Any ideas?

Most current version of QT is indeed 7.0.4, but Apple has removed that update and instead posted one that backs 7.0.4 back to 7.0.1.
Apple is now passively recommending against 7.0.4

Song Downloaded but Won't Play After Update

I just downloaded the new Itunes 6.0 and updated my ipod mini with the 4.1 version. Now the song that I dowloaded will not play on my ipod. I can choose the song but the ipod skips right over it and plays the next song.
I recognized that I do not have Service Pack 2 on my computer could this be the problem.

I'm having the same problem. iTunes updated to 6.0, iPod Mini on 1.4. I downloaded three songs from iTunes this evening and they won't play on my son's Mini. However, they will play on my daughter's Mini (also 1.4) and on my 3rd gen iPod (2.3).
On my son's Mini the songs show briefly in the display then skip to the next song without playing. Interesting that the song count updates with each skip.
Anyone with ideas?

TS1424 purchased album won't play after buying on iphone. How to fix?

I purchased an album from iTunes on my iPhone and when I go to play the album, it won't play and songs are skipped over until the album's complete. How do i fix? Should I get a refund and repurchase? Thanks.

I'd try redownloading it from the purchased section of the iTunes store first and see if that helps.

To be honest not being able to send or recieve messages and data is a carrier issue, not a phone issue since u said that your calls are working, if i were you my first course of action would be to get a new sim card from virgin mobile, or to restore the device as new one more time, if you restore the device as new AND get a new sim card from your carrier and those features still dont work, i would take the device to an apple store

DVD Movies won't play after 10.4.10 / DVD Player 4.6.1 Updates...

CDs will boot fine, blank DVDs will mount fine, but when I insert a DVD movie; the drive won't mount and the DVD player will not play my discs. I currently have a Pioneer DVR-109 installed in my PowerPC G5. Any information or help please.

IT DEFINITELY IS A TIGER ISSUE... here's a little workaround... although in a tricky way, i got my commercial dvd's to finally play. do the following and let me know if it will work for you as well.
-insert a movie dvd (commercial)
-when told that the disc is not readable and prompted to eject or ignore hit ignore
-you will not see the disc mount on your desktop
-open vlc and hit play. choose "disc" for destination and hit okay (don't try with apple's dvd player, IT WILL NOT WORK)
-you will now see the movie title in your playlist, select it and play it... it works!!
good luck and until we find a permanent fix we can still watch movies on our macs! BTW, i used vlc 0.8.6c for this test on 10.4.10. incase you're not familiar with vlc, it's a free video player and you can download it from number of places on the internet.

Movies won't play or sync with IPhone 5 or computer

I have a macbook pro 10.84--my I iPhone is 5, updated, and iTunes has been upgraded to 11.04.
My problem is this:
I have purchased movies recently that will not play or syn shoc with my iPhone 5, all I get is a black screen. They show up in my purchases, my iTunes folder, but I do not know how to erase/fix this problem on my own. Oh, and it really ***** I can't fix my movies because I can't freakin' see them, the window is too small and hard to move. Please make this bigger--I'm gonna try not to consider the alternative to fixing my computer/phone as right now (this problem has case numbers) and been going on all week and I just have one week to use my computer--then I'm going in for brain surgery. I'd appreciate any help--there is none on the phone.

Rented movie won't play after 8 minutes in.

I rented a movie on my iTouch yesterday, then when I played it it stopped at 8 minutes 42 seconds and wouldn't play anything after that. I was determined to watch the movie so I rented and downloaded it again, it did the same thing. So today I synced my iTouch to my computer, updated it, tried the movies with the same problem, and rented the movie AGAIN via my computer. The movie did the same thing AGAIN! I'm soo frustrated! If anyone can help please do!!! I'd like to add that I rented a different movie and watched it the day before and it was fine, so I don't know what's going on with this movie!!

So for anyone who happens upon this...
I've noted that the beach ball clears if I wait for 1 hour.
I've also noted that it is much faster to rename the movie files themselves in the finder, the next time I play the movie in iTunes the name changes.
I've noticed several other messages about the spinning beachball of death. In case anyone is wondering don't force quit iTunes least you corrupt the file.

Yesterday I figured out that apps i purchased weren't working because I hadn't had the most recent software, so I downloaded 2.0. Before doing this, I had purchased a movie from itunes on my PC, which worked perfectly until i tried it for the first time after having the update. Every time I try to play the movie on my ipod touch (1st gen), a pop up comes up that says "This movie could not be played." Help Please?

Apple Trailers won't play after update to Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard and the only glitch I have encountered is that Apple Trailers will not play. The computer screen darkens and the movie viewer screen pops up, but the viewer screen remains black and no movie appears. I have tried reinstalling Snow Leopard and updating to 10.6.1, but still no trailers. Any idea what's going on and what I should do? Many thanks.

Mine seems fine, but you might post a link to a specific trailer.
It's possible it may be Flash related, some early disks broke Flash.
What version of QuickTime do you have? Which browser are you using?

Movies won't play after upgrade

After upgrading my system to OS X 10.4.10, the movies I downloaded will not play in iTunes. Double-clicking the file name, or selecting "play" from the controls menu does nothing--no error message, just inaction. There is no exclamation point in the file name, and the files are located where preferences say they should be. Purchased audio files all play ok, only the movies don't.
I can select the movies in the Quick-time player and they do play that way, but not within iTunes.
Any ideas?

Problem solved. I downloaded a Quicktime upgrade, and the movies now play.
