  • I moved my library from laptop to desktop and now it's all messed up...help

So I moved my itunes library from my laptop to my desktop and when i synced the my 4GB ipod for the first time (formerly held about 700+ songs), it will now only hold around 400. Any ideas why it's doing this?
    Thanks!!

Did you use the iPod to move the music from one computer to another?
If so, you may still have some files on there.
Restore the iPod to reclaim the storage space.

  • Help! Moved a project from laptop to desktop files are missing

    hi,
sorry I am a premiere elements 7 newbie.
I started my project on my laptop but unfortunately it hadn´t enough space and was not aible to work with the data flow. i bought a desktop and made the mistake that I only copied the "premiere elements project" the document..........
then I organised the new pc and so on...opened the project but all my files (audio, pictures and videos) were missing.
can someone help me what to do? I don´t want to do it again...........
please note that I saved the documents (songs, pictures and avi) from different places on the laptop.
    thank you so much

    Sabine,
The Project file (.PREL) is just an XML database and contains none of the media, only links to where that media was, when it was Imported into PrE, plus instructions on what you did, as you edited in PrE.
Now, when one moves either a Project, or the media (your Assets) is to break those links. PrE goes looking, per the Path in the .PREL file. Unless the files are in that exact Path, it will throw up an error message, basicly saying, "help, I canno find these files." One has several choices at that point. One is to help PrE find the files, where they are now. Depending on the folder structure, if you help it find the first one that it's asking for, it'll automaticlaly link to all others in that folder, that it needs. If it then asks for another file, the chances are great that that file will be, maybe in a sub-folder. After that one is linked, it'll gather any that it needs in that sub-folder. This is repeated until all Assets have been found and linked. It could be find the first and all get linked or search around the sub-folders. This part just depends on the folder structure.
Another choice is to choose Media Off-line. What this does is allow one to edit with any Assets that are found, and just show all others as Off-line. Here comes a big warning. If, after choosing Media Off-line (actual syntax for all unfound media would be "Off-line All."), you chose to Save, and your original Project file is overwritten, you will now have to manually locate all Assets to get them relinked. If I were going to do any off-line editing, I'd always do a Save_As, or a Save_As_a_Copy and NOT a Save. As mentioned, if you do a Save, then you have to go in and manually relink all Assest, unlike the scenario in the second paragraph.
Now, if you media is shown as off-line and you do not have an original copy of your .PREL Project file, you'll need to go to the Project Panel. Your Assest will have a different icon, than before and the media will show as off-line. Rt-click on each one and choose Relink Media. Now, navigate to the new locations for that file and choose it to relink. I believe that this is the same in PrE, but that is the list of steps for PrPro. One must do this for each Asset, that you wish to bring back online. This method does take a lot of work, especially for large Projects with lots of Assets.
As Kodebuster says, copying over your Assets entire folder structure to the second machine and then helping PrE find the first file (and any additionals that are in sub-folders) is the best way to do this.
Again, remember that the .PREL file contains no media, just links to where PrE last saw those files.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How do you move your music library from a laptop to a desktop? I have moved my library from a laptop to another laptop but can't figure out how to move music from laptop to desktop. Anybody know? Thanks

    Hello, Sandralee59.
Thank you for the question.  The attached article below provides multiple options for moving your iTunes library to a new computer.

  • Import photos w/edits from laptop to desktop

I used my laptop to edit photos I took this week while on vacation.  I'm looking for the most convenient way to import them from my laptop to my desktop including the edits.  Basically don't want to re-edit the photos.  Whats the best way?  I'm running LR3 3.5 and OSX 10.7.1 (Lion) on both computers.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Are the photos imported into both computers’ LR catalogs, yet, and/or is it your intent to make this a one-way transfer from laptop to desktop, or are you wanting to work with the photos in both places from here on out?
If it is a one-way transfer and they only exist in the laptop’s LR catalog, then select all the photos you want to transfer—perhaps use a collection so you can re-select them easier, later, use (on Windows it is) LR / File / Export as Catalog to create a small, temporary LR catalog with the settings and to a flash-drive/card-in-card-reader/other external drive or across the network to a temporarily location, containing just the edits/settings of the photos in question, and then copy that catalog and the photos to the desktop, then import that small catalog into the desktop’s catalog and use Locate Missing Photos from one of the thumbnails to re-hook-up the photos if the paths are different between the to computers.
A slightly less useful alternative because it doesn’t contain ALL the settings in LR, is to write XMP files for all the photso in question, then copy the photos and XMP files over to the desktiop, then import the photos into the desktop catalog, where it’ll pick up the current edits from the XMP files.
If you already have the current photos in both locations, then if you can keep track of what you’re doing well enough, either remove the exact set of photos from the desktop and import them, again, using one of the two procedures, above, or you can copy the XMP files over from the laptop and re-read all the metadata for the photos to get their edits up-to-date.
If the photos are supposed to be moved from the laptop to the desktop, then after you’re satisfied they are safely on the desktop, you should remove them from the laptop to avoid confusion.  If all the photos on the laptop’s LR are moving, then just delete the catalog, but if only some are, then remove them from the catalog and hard-disk by deleting them using the same selection you used to export the photos or write the XMP files, earlier.
If the photos are supposed to be worked on in both places, then having the photos and LR catalog on an external drive is the only reasonable way to do this, so after consolidating all the photos into one LR catalog using the above prodedure, then copy all the photos to an external HD and copy the LR catalog as well, and tell LR to open the catalog on the external drive and re-find the missing photos because the path to the external drive isn’t the same as on the local drive, I wouldn’t think, although I’m a Windows guy so am not exactly sure.  Once you are satisfied everything is working on the external drive, figure out a way to back up that external drive somewhere so if you drop it, you still have your work, and then you can remove the photos from the local drive on the desktop, unless you’ve decided that is where your backup will be.

  • Moving Music Videos between laptop and desktop

I have purchased 4 music videos from iTunes store. They are on my laptop. I was travelling on business and wanted to try out the new music videos.
Now that I am home and using my Dual G5 desktop, how do I move or share these videos off my laptop top to my desktop? Is there any way to sync two iTunes libraries to keep them the same. Since I own both laptop and desktop seems rather stupid to not be able to do this.
I really just started using iTunes when the video part was released, so I maybe overlooking something really easy to fix this issue.
I have turned on iTunes music library sharing on the laptop but only audio music is shown when viewing from my iTunes desktop. No videos are listed. I event made a playlist folder on my laptop called Videos and copied the videos into this list.
The list "Video" shows up when looking from my desktop, but no vidoes are listed in the playlist.
    thanks

    Bill,
"Is there any way to sync two iTunes libraries to keep them the same. Since I own both laptop and desktop seems rather stupid to not be able to do this."
I have the very same situation as many others do, so I've asked the very same question to an Apple Genius at the Manhattan Village Store in CA, and the answer is no. Why? You can have multiple iPods connected to a single computer, but not multiple computers connected to a single iPod. The reason for that is DRM.
Your best bet is to keep both libraries synched using apps like "You Synchronize" or "Folder Synchroniser", this way you'll have the same library across both Macs, and you can use any one as a Master for your iPod. Works for me!

  • Loading digital photos to the 5th Generation iPod from laptop

It's not a crisis, and I really enjoy my new 80GB iPod, but why can't I get all my digital photos downloaded into the iPod from my Window's-based computer? I have photos placed in files in 'My Pictures' and after the pictures were downloaded into the iPod, it only seemed to 'accept' a certain amount of pics from each file (example of one I noticed...one of my files has 8 pics, and it transferred only 2 to the iPod under that file name). Am I doing something wrong? Thanks to anyone who can help...

I am still not entierly sure what the problem is or how to fix it so if you find an answer well both of us will earn;P

  • Moving iTunes library from laptop to new desktop

I'm thinking about getting an iMac desktop, and would like to move all my music and video files from my iBook to the new setup. What is the correct procedure for doing this? I'm reading on these boards that there's a way to just plug the computers into each other, but will that copy everything onto the new hard drive? I'm thinking about doing this because my 60 GB laptop's capacity is maxed out from my iTunes library (33 GB and growing); once I move it to the desktop can I trim down my laptop's iTunes library and still play from there? Can I then only update my iPod to the desktop (if I want the full library)?
Should I run it all through an external HD as a sort of middle man/back-up? Is this all much easier than I'm thinking it is?
    I know...so many questions.
    Thanks.
    Lindsay

get the two, system prefs, click sharing, make sure personal file sharing is checked on both
second in finder click go in the menu bar and click connect to server, click browse
enter your login name and pass for the user account you want music from from the old computer . .
that computer will appear on your desktop, double click it, find your music folder, open itunes on the new computer and go to user/music/itunes/itunes music and drag itunes music into the library source on your new itunes . . . it will do the rest and this is also the best for the new computer, to create new files while coping not moving and taking all the old bagage with it.
then just clear your ipod and set it for the new iMac and back everything up from there and clear off the ibook. keep it authorized and when they are on network if iTunes is open on the desktop you will be able to play music from it, worked great i use it on 4 computers in my house . .
then as far as travel goes . . no music on the old laptop . . who cares, you have an ipod . . enjoy!
hope i understood your question, please feel free to ask if you have any more!

  • Moving Address Book contacts from laptop to desktop

I was doing some updating of my Address Book contacts this afternoon when the program majorly crashed, and then lost every single contact that was in there....
Luckily, I have another copy on my laptop. I'm just not sure now how to get the data from my laptop back to my desktop. I have done the following:
    - attached the two computers with Firewire
    - moved the folder myusername/library/applicationsupport/addressbook from the laptop to the same place on the desktop.
This seemed to be recommended in another thread, but it's not working for me - when I open Address Book in my desktop again, it's still empty. Can anyone tell me what I should do next (short of typing all the addresses back in again by hand)?

Did you check the Permissions on that folder & contents after you moved it?
Did you Verify & Repair if needed the HD on the Desktop first?

  • Can't see TimeCapsule from Laptop, only desktop!?

Hy, I would realy appreciate some help with my problem!
After updating the airpot software and the firmware software, I'm unable to see the Time Capsule HD from my laptop. I had the same problem with my desktop, and after installing the old version of airpot and firmware software I started to see the HD Time Capsule again. I tried to install the same version of the airport(5.3.2) in my laptop, but I still can't see the time capsule hd from my laptop, only from desktop. I'm using the 7.3.2 firmware in my capsule. I lost the entire day uninstalling and installing all the possible version of software and I could only make my desktop work with airport 5.3.2 and firmware 7.3.2, but the same combination in the laptop is not allowing me to see the HD of the time capsule. I've already tried wireless and cable for installing and truing to locate the HD. I can not find this steps in my computer " In Finder go to preferences and check connected servers to show on desktop" . Can you please help me? Thanks a lot for you time and attention!

Hello Placido and welcome to the discussions!
"I can not find this steps in my computer In Finder go to preferences and check connected servers to show on desktop"
    Here are the steps:
Click on the Finder icon on the dock at the bottom of the screen. The Finder icon is usually on the far left of the dock unless you have moved it. Or, just click the desktop in a blank area.
Now at the top of the screen, you will see the Apple icon and Finder-File-Edit-View-Go-Window-Help. Click on Finder and then click on Preferences.
Click on General. Look for the words "Show these items on the Desktop"
Make sure that there is a check mark next to "Connected servers".
    That is it.

  • Itunes library from laptop to desktop

I want to take my itunes library that is on my backup drive from my laptop and put it on my desktop. Is it as simple as just dragging the library off my external drive and dropping it in the itunes library on my desktop?
    Thanks

Place it in the location of the current library after moving or renaming the item which already exists. You cannot add items to or merge iTunes libraries in the Finder.

  • How do I move photos from laptop to desktop WITH Lightroom Edits?

I have Lightroom on my laptop and on my desktop.
I've just done a big shoot with my camera tethered to Lightroom on my laptop, and applied some develop settings as the photos were imported.  I also did a little cropping and a few other adjustments when I stopped shooting for lunch.
Now, I'd like to move these photos with the edit history to my desktop machine because it's got the big guns for processing photos.
How do I do this?  There must be a way!
    Thanks so much!
    --Michael

In LR on the laptop, in the Library module select the photos you want to move.
    "Export as catalog".
On the desktop, in LR "import from catalog" using the exported catalog.
Or you could just import the whole laptop catalog depending on your needs.

  • Move Referenced Images From Laptop To Desktop

I use a laptop in the field. If I use referenced masters on the laptop, how to I transfer these as referenced to my desktop referenced library? Would I merge the libraries and then have to reconnect the masters?

When you import photos into Aperture, photos are imported as managed images. This means that Aperture has the images in its library file. When files are refrenced, this means that the files are outside the Aperture library but are refrenced for you to work with them. I would personally use manages images for your needs currently. If you would like to keep them managed, this is how you would do so. Check in the import window under Aperture library. It should say “send to” and then “in aperture library”. In my opinion as evidenced by what I learned from people that answered my question, it is easier to import libraries into your main Aperture library as managed.
You can keep two copies of Aperture. One on your laptop as well as one on your desktop. All you have to do is copy the Aperture application from one computer to the other. Please note though when there are updates to your Aperture library on the computer you first installed it one, you will have to recopy it in order to have the updates take hold on the other computer. This is good nws for you because then you will not have to pay additional money in order to have them on both computers.
Back to what you wanted to do. Once you have installed it on your laptop, import your photos as usual. After you make other changes and edits you will want to merge this library with your iMac. Copy your Aperture library from your laptop onto an external drive and plug it into your desktop. Then from the Aperture application on your desktop select “file, import library”. Then click merge changes. Your changes will be merged. I would recommend that after your images are backed up with time machine or cloning, then you should delete the photos on your laptop. This then saves space. Let me know if this helps.

  • Migrating from laptop to desktop

I bought a new desktop Windows 8.1 computer that I intend to use for photo-editing. I will need to load my CS5.1 and LR4 onto the new computer, as well as migrate all my photos from my Windows 7 laptop.  I was wondering what other folders and files I might need to locate and migrate, to ensure that I don't lose all of my edits.  Thanks!

don't migrate any adobe apps. reinstall them on your new computer.
you can migrate your catalog.  for example, http://lightroomers.com/migrating-you-lightroom-catalog-and-photos-to-a-new-computer/1155/

  • Syncing music from Laptop and desktop, why can't I do both?

I read that you can use more than one machine, yet when I uploaded Itunes to my desktop, it says that I can only sync to one computer (my laptop)...will someone explain how this works? I would like to use both, and they are both mines, so why can't I keep the music from my laptop if I decide to sync to my desktop?

    Hi Valerie,
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296 provides detail about the data that can be synced and merge from multiple computers. So, you can sync and merge Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, and Notes on multiple computers.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1209 provides a little more detail about music and videos only syncing from one iTunes library.
