Moving a Clip From One Project to Another

How do you move a clip from one project to another keeping the sound clip and title that was used on that clip?

As far as I can tell, you can COPY all, or some, of the video clips (and stills) with transitions and FX and PASTE into a different Project. But you can't copy titles or audio tracks.
However, you can make a QT movie of the segment you want and import it. If it's short use 8-biy uncompressed or ProRes 422.
Or you can DUPLICATE what you need, and and new clips to the duplicate.

Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are frames saved as stills from a video event.  I try the copy & paste but it does not seem to work.

The video was converted into MP4 and then I could get it into iMovie events.  I had right clicked and saved farmes as stills.  ABout 50 of them,  When I tried to copy and paste those stills into another project I couldn't. They came up blank.
I ended up going to a Genius appointment at my APPLE store this afternoon and was told that those "stills" aren't really anything. Not a .jpg or video, so the program doesn't recognize them.  So instead I'm using the Project with the 50 stills and copying other .jpgs and video into it.  (This is for a 1961 Class Reunion, so it's old stuff).  Seems to work so far.
So bottom line seems to be I can use these stills created from a video in the project in which they were created, but no where else.  Do you know a way around this?

    Thanks for the reply.
For now assuming that you are using Premiere Elements 11, 12/12.1, or 13/13.1 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit....
I am not sure that Left and Right channel audio editing is the answer to your DVD echo issue, but the opportunities for audio channel editing in Premiere Elements would include (before burn to)
    1. Audio Mixer - Balance.
    2. fx Effects/Audio Effects
    Please refer to https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/effects-reference.html#audio_effects
for explanations of the Audio Effects.....
    Balance
    Channel Volume
    Left Fill, Right Fill
    Invert
    Swap Channels
And, there is the free audio editor, Audacity Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder for channel editing.
Do you hear the echo before the burn to disc?
Is any of the Timeline video content from your cell phone? If so, did you have any issues with a variable frame rate when you were preparing the video in Edit area for burn to in Publish+Share?
What audio effects, if any, did you apply to the Timeline audio content prior to burn to?
    Please consider.

  • --Any way to copy/paste clips from one project to another w/o LOSING TRANSITIONS...??

    I have CS5...
I'm trying to speed up render/export time. I have multiple edited video's in about 15 different projects.
I had a couple video's within one project and rendered the work area - consisting of 4 video's...then exported. It was much faster than just going to straight exporting so I wanted to do the same with all the other video's.
Pull everything into one project - render first - and export from there but premiere doesn't copy transitions from one project to another. Is there any way to get it to copy/paste transitions??
    Thanks

exported regularly and took 2hrs 50min's for each video....then rendered and exported - took prob around 2hrs total - including rendering/exporting.
That seems unlikely.  If anything, the separate render/export should take slightly longer (though not that much) as you may also have to transcode the preview files (depending on your preview codec) during the render, as well as decode them for the export.  Besides adding an additional layer of compression, it also adds time.  Here's what I mean.
    Export only:
    1. Decode original media
    2. Render new frame based on sequence, effects, titles, etc.
    3. Transcode that new frame to the export codec of choice.
    Render (1-3) /Export (4-5)
    1. Decode original media.
    2. Render new frame based on sequence, effects, titles, etc.
    3. Transcode that new frame to the Preview codec (if anything less than Uncompressed, this adds time and potentially degrades quality)
    4.  Decode the rendered frame (if not Uncompressed, which adds time)
    5. Transcode that (decoded) render frame to the export codec of choice.
So you see, the render first process has two extra steps which add time, one of which could also introduce additional artifacts (depending on your preview codec).

  • How Do I Transfer Clips From One Project To Another?

I have what is probably a basic question. I have two projects that I'm working on, and need to transfer a set of clips from my first project to my second. How would I do that.

Method 1: Open the project that you want to have the clips in, then go to File->Import->Files and navigate to where the clips are stored on your hard drive.
Method 2: Open both projects. Go to the first project, copy the clips you want, then paste them into the other project.

  • How do I copy clips from one project into another?

Ok, I have gathers a bunch of clips from various events to forma project. Now I want to rearrange everything in a new project. Can I somehow get my first project to act like an event? That way I can grab the clips into a new project window... Thanks

If I understand what you are trying to do, you do not need to "get my first project to act like an event". Merely drag the same clips you used in your first project from their original event location(s) into the new project. Then reorder or re-edit the clips as desired. There is no need to make them into a "dummy" project first.
If you want to have EVERY (or almost every) clip in both the first and new projects, with the second merely being reordered or re-edited, use the *File > Duplicate Project* menu command. Then go to work on the newly duplicated copy of the project. You can rename the duplicated project as desired and reorder, edit, or delete the clips in the duplicated project without dragging them from any event.

  • Moving clips from one project to another

having clicked 'import' and selecting a project to import i get a 'parse' error. I've no idea what this is or what to do about it. Any help greatly appreiciated

Here is one option to copy the whole "flattened" iMovie timeline to another project:
You can use the Timeline Movie.mov as an input for another iMovie project:
    - Copy the Timeline Movie.mov outside the iMovie project package.
    - Then open the copied Timeline Movie.mov in QuickTime Player Pro and enable ONLY the High Quality flag (otherwise the input will be deinterlaced!): In QT 7 you do this via enabling "Window/Show Movie Properties/Video Track/Visual Settings/High Quality" setting -- do not enable "Single Field" or "Deinterlace" because they deinterlace playback. You can also set "QuickTime Player 7/Preferences.../General/Use high quality video setting when available" to check the "High Quality" box by default (notice that the "Single Field" or "Deinterlace" boxes may have been saved to the file so sometimes you must take care to uncheck them).
    - Then import the copied and High Quality -flagged Timeline Movie.mov to iMovie via its File/Import... command.
The import process may take a while if the project is long. Notice that the import is one big clip and you have to manually split it into scenes.

  • Copy and paste clips from one project to another

i have made highlight film of my kids playing sports over the months. i would like to make one that had bits and pieces of all the previous. how do i see all the frames like you can in the events section?

    Hi
NO ! - and when iMovie moved from the 1 to HD6 series (in last versions this worked greatly) - to iMovie'08 or 09 or 11
This basic and very vital function was lost (among lot's of Important functions)
There is a cumbersome way around (most probably more than one way to do it - this is mine)
    • Duplicate the project with needed clips (ctrl-click on its title in Project Library list)
    • In Copy - Delete what You don't need
    • Share it as a full Quality QuickTime .mov
    • Import this into Your New Project
Cons: Effects and texts and so on can not be further edited as the clip-movie is flatted to one piece - If You need to do this I suggest You to re-build from scratch.

  • Moving Subtitles from one project to another

To make work on a project more efficient, we started a project on one computer with only the film track for subtitling, whilst authoring the DVD on an other computer, another project.
So, how do we move the subtitles created in one DVDSP project into another project?
I cannot see that the subtitle stream creates its own asset, which could be imported into the authoring project, and DVDSP refuses me to copy the subtitles to past them into the "real" project and I find no export options which seem to apply.
    Humbly seeking help.

Sorry Per - there is no direct way of moving the subs from one project to another, or exporting them directly as an asset. The very best advice is to construct subtitles outside of DVDSP as a text file which you can then import, edit, alter exactly as you want. I suspect it's beyond that point for you now, though!
However, if you use the app 'Subtitler' then you can export an item description of your DVDSP track and extract the subtitles from it in STL format.
Another thing to do is to export the track from one project as an asset and import it into the new project, but then replace the video and audio elements with the correct pieces that you need to use. It's a lot more messy than simply having a text file for the subs, but could get you out of a hole.

  • If I move a picture from one project to another in aperture why doesn't the jpeg change folders if all my pictures are referenced?

I started importing all my pictures into Aperture and have been debating whether to use a managed or referenced library.  I'm leaning toward referenced, but before import everything that way, I do a couple of "test drives".
In Aperture, I moved a photo from one project to another expecting that the jpeg in finder would move from the original folder to the new one, but it didn't.  Anyone know why?  Is there a way to make this happen?  Is it bad that I want this to happen?  Should I just use a managed library.  I like having control of the actual files (thus wanting to go with a referenced library).
    Any thoughts?
    Mark

In Aperture, I moved a photo from one project to another expecting that the jpeg in finder would move from the original folder to the new one, but it didn't.
Mark, Aperture does not store the originals organized by project, but by the date of the Import Session. So moving an image to a different project will not change, were the original file is stored.
This has a big advantage for backing up the originals. If they never move or change, you do not have to backup the originals other than directly after importing, if your library is referenced. And even incremental backups of a managed library are quicker.
Is there a way to make this happen?
You can always use the command "File > Relocate" to move the original files anywhere you want.
Is it bad that I want this to happen?  Should I just use a managed library.  I like having control of the actual files (thus wanting to go with a referenced library).
If it is bad, will depend on why you want to have control of your originals. If you just want to know where they are, it is o.k., or if you don't have enough space on the drive with the library and need to split the library across several drives. But it would be bad to move, edit, or access the referenced originals in any way. Let Aperture do the handling,  or you will be risking broken references.
Aperture has several buil-in ways to show you the original: The "M" key will switch the Browser to the original, "File > Export > Original" will give you an exact copy of the original, or you can relocate the file to another folder.  I simply open the aperture Library in iPhoto, when I want to view my managed originals. iPhoto has a command "File > Reveal in Finder > Original" that will show you also the managed originals in the "Masters" folder inside the Aperture/iPhoto Library package.

  • Move images from one project to another

I have just upgraded from ap 1.5 to ap 2. In 1.5, when I moved an image from one project to another, the image was actually removed from the original project and placed in the new project. It has been my habit to upload all the images from a shoot into one project and then sort them into image specific projects; for example all blackbirds into a project labeled "blackbirds", all hawks into a project labeled hawks, etc. Once everything was sorted, the original project would be empty and I could delete it. This does not seem to be the case in ap 2. When I sort the images into their specific projects, they do disappear from the original project and thus I am unable to delete that project. Am I missing something?
    Thanks
    HPL

I had a bit of an unusual situation. I was in fact moving images from a FOLDER to a project in another folder. Turns out that there were albums in a project in the SOURCE FOLDER. I clicked on the folder, not the project, so although moving the images did indeed remove them from the source PROJECT, they remained in the various albums in that source project, still showing up in the SOURCE FOLDER, which is what I was working from, thus the confusion. I bet I won't make that mistake again.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Editing audio from one project to another

I'm trying to build a DVD project of different musical performances in Final Cut Pro X. The Mac I'm working with crashes every 30 minutes regardless of what I'm doing so, instead of building a monstrous timeline with two hours worth of performances on it (which will never save given the crash issues), I'm trying to build it by each song (4-6 minutes each).
The format is: opening billboard (with performer and song listed) --> fade into performance --> performance --> fade out of performance. If I were fading the audio out after each song, it would be simple but I'm trying to keep some of the audience track going under the next billboard so it blends better. I can't seem to cut the audio at the end of the fade out and apply it to the next song without continuing to build onto the same timeline which, due to the crash issues, doesn't help me.
Is there an audio work around that I'm missing? All I want to do is fade the audio a little past the fade effect, copy it and apply it to the beginning of the next song. Anyone?

Just ran into the same problem myself... while I get you CAN export the audio, then import it and use anyway you like I don't think that is the point of the original poster's question.
The voice-over clip has unique properties and as such I (and it looks like other users) would like to be able to "copy & paste" a voice-over clip from one project to another. Alternatively if I could drag and drop the voice-over clip into my Event that would be great too. Doesn't seem like an unreasonable request. Right now the famed Apple ease-of-use is missing for those of us who have recorded voice over elements we want to use in more than one project.
Had I known iMove would not allow sharing of voice over clips within iMovie I would have recorded my voice-over clips in another application and imported them all as audio-clips. Which certainly defeats the point of the inclusion of voice-over in iMovie.
Any solutions that work within the app without an export/import required?

Do some testing to get your method working right with some less than important footage.
Copy/paste files where you want then.
Use the FCE Reconnect feature to tell FCE where the newly copied files reside.
Make sure the new location and files are working as expected with your Projects.
Delete the original files if no longer required.

You need to give a lot more information about the media specifications and the project properties you're using in the different projects.
