Moving a clip in timeline without the audio overwrite.

is there a way to move a clip in a busy timeline in a way that the audio will not overwrite another audio.
I'm dragging the video to a clear spot on a higher track but the audio part of the clip remains in the same track (which is occupied by another clip).

I found how to do.
you drag the video portion of the clip downward pass the bar separating video and audio track . the video will remain in video track 1 and the audio will move to a different track.

Deleting a Multicam clip in timeline without changing time.

I have a camera angle [1] that I have in a Multicam timeline. Audio was built in Pro Tools and is the synchronization base
I inserted [2] in the timeline. and them [3].
I want to delete [2 ]and use [1] in its place. I know that I can right click "change camera angle " to change [2] to [1] and I would now have [1] [1] [3] .
However I would prefer to have one less edit in the timeline so I would only have [1] [3].
I can shrink the second [1] to one frame with a roll edit from [1] , but I cannot delete the second [1] without changing the audio.
I suppose that I could then use the handles from [1] to stretch [1] to the correct insert point to [3]
Is there another way?

Ticks on a timeline (without the slider)

If I want something exactly like the ticks on a timeline without having the slider or the slider bar (just the ticks) is there a object I can use? Possibly stealing a little from the JSlider?

Export a portion of the video WITHOUT the audio

Hi, I have tried many, many different methods (too many to list) for removing the audio from my mp4 file before exporting, but the flv file continues to have the audio. Does anyone know of a sure way to get rid of it (yes - I have deleted it! and have chosen not to include the audio in the Export options! but it is still there).

Merge Clips: Can you omit the audio from the video track?

To be more specific:
Running FCP 6.0.3:
I'm syncing audio separately recorded to video for a feature film. The video (RED ftg) has one track of reference audio on it, and it's usually a scratchy wireless signal that is not useable. Can I merge the video track with the audio tracks and leave behind the bad audio? Or can I get rid of that audio in any way?

Clip imports without the audio...

Using FCE I'm importing small a/v clips, but once they're in FCE they don't have any audio.
What am I doing wrong?

Long delay for playback after moving a clip in timeline in Premiere CS6

Whenever I move a clip in the timeline I have to wait a really long time for the image to show up in the preview monitor after pressing play. Audio starts ok but I see a black screen for a long time (varies from aprox. 2 to 30 seconds).
This is a bit annoying as it disrupts the editing flow and really slows down the workflow.
I'm cutting a Red Epic sequence on an 2011 iMac with 16 gb of ram. I never got this behaviour in CS5.
Any suggestions?

Also, to isolate the problem, try using some other media, not the Epic footage.

DVCPro 50 letterboxed opening in my timeline without the letterboxing

I have a project with DVCPro 50 clips letterboxed and when I open them in my timeline the image fills the entire area becoming anamorphic. Do I have to use the distort option in the clips attributes? Or is there a setting to solve perhaps a different codec.

Sounds like your sequence is set to Anamorphic.
In FCPs menu bar: Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup > DVCPro 50 > Setup.
Then, Sequence > Settings > Load Sequence Preset. DVCPro 50 should already be selected, click OK to confirm. Edit your clips into this sequence.

Keyboard Shortcut for moving a clip in timeline to a higher or lower track?

Sure seems like this should exist but I cannot find it.
I want to be able to select clips in the timeline and click a keyboard shortcut to have the clip jump straight up to the next track above.
Anyone know if this is possible?
I have six hours of edited material and literally thousands of B-camera clips to move.... a keyboard shortcut would really help in this situation.

In the PDF files of the FCP user manual, and in the Quick Reference (Keyboard Shortcuts) menu item from within FCP.
Option-↑ (that's Option & the Up Arrow) This works provided that there are no clips in the track space directly above the clips that you're looking to move. (if there are clips, it will fail; you'd need to select those clips as well for it to work. That or move those clips first.)< </div>

Like in Premiere Pro, you simply right click on a clip in the timeline and get the program to find the clip in the browser, is there a way to do this in FCP?

if you are active in the timeline you highlight a clip and hit the "f" key. This will load the master clip in the viewer. At the top of the viewer it tells you the name of the clip and project it is in.

How can I export an audio track with just the effect signal without the audio?

I want to export dry audio tracks and their effects signals as separate tracks. For instance a track with a reverbed snare would be one track with the dry snare and one with just the reverb.
I know from people who use Reason that it's just a box you need to tick, but I'm struggling to find out how to do it in Logic. Surely it must be a way?

I don't remember Reason being that straight forward, but the obvious way to go, is to mute all sends and bounce.
Then solo the reverb channel, in aux, checking it isn't shared by other sources, and bounce. You should have a dry and a reverbed signal, at your convenience.

How to insert pictures without effecting the audio 1 and sound track

I am new to Premiere elements 10 and I am having trouble when I am moving clips such as pictures into the middle of the timeline between video clips.
When I move a picture directly to the middle of the time line it clips and separates the music I have on the soundtrack.   I found through Lynda.com and Adobe Help that if you hold down the "alt" key while inserting the new picture you will not effect the soundtrack or other tracks.   This issue I have with the alt key is now the rest of the clips in the timeline have the audio 1 track and the video 1 track offset by the duration of the picture that was inserted. My project is over an hour long so its hard to go back and straighten this out.
What is the best way to handle this???
Adding extra video clips into the middle of the project works great with the alt key because the video 1 and audio 1 moves together.

I did purchase the book and it has been quite helpful. One more question on pictures. One page 46 you talk about downsizing the pictures and unchecking frame to scale on page 48.   My computer was crashing after putting in about 1 hour of video and few hundred pictures so I was pretty interested in this suggestion.
When I resize the pictures to 1000 x 750 and uncheck the frame to scale my pictures show up too large on the screen and crops off part of the picture.   Of course if I go to 640 x 480 it looks OK.   I am not really sure what the advantage of unchecking the frame to scale. It seems like a fail safe method.
I am using a project setting DV NTSC since that matches my mini DV tapes.
Question:
1.   Better to resize to 640 x 480 and uncheck frame to scale?
2. resize to 1000 x 750 and leave the frame to scale checked?
3. Resize to 640 x 480 and change the project setting so future pictures will not be frame to scale?
I just want to have the system more reliable and quit crashing but still maintain the high quality.   I am using a AMD Phenom II x 4 830 processor, 2.8 G Hz, Windows 64, 6 GB RAM.
The first option means I have to reload all my pictures. Changing the size in the same folder with Photoshop process multi files is easy, but I cannot change the frame to size without reloading everything since it was originally checked when I started the project.
