Moving a folder with lots of data.

I've noticed that when a user moves a big folder of data from Desktop to Documents the syncing process will sync that whole data folder again with the server. Does anybody encounter the same behavior?

You haven't. You need to find where the folder is actually located and drag that; the icons in the sidebar and Dock are shortcuts and will disappear if dragged elsewhere, including to each other.

  • Server folder with lots of files hangs Finder and Terminal

I work remotely from home, and connect to my company's PC network using VPN software and Finder's Go -> Connect to Server...
Pre-Tiger, this worked fine. I could browse remote folders in the Finder, no matter how many files and other folders were contained in these folders...
Ever since I loaded Tiger, when I connect to a server and navigate to a folder with "lots of" files (I don't know what the number is, but I do know that one of the folders that is a problem for me has 130 folders in it), the Finder hangs up and has to be relaunched...
The same goes if I open a Terminal window and "cd" to the same directory... if I do an "ls", it hangs.
I repeat, I never had this problem pre-Tiger, and the folders have not grown in size.
    Please help?
    Thank you!

I think I solved it!!! After trying all sorts of copying from backups etc.... with no good result, I resorted to Cocktail and used the function in the second page called... System, under the Tab called Database 'Rebuild launch services database', though don't tick the box.
This fixed things for me!! Hope it works for you too.

  • Looking for a form in the VIS demo database with lots of data

    Hi all,
I am looking for a form in the VIS demo database (that ships with Oracle Applications) that contains a lot (1 MB or more) of data. Specifically, when I perform some type of search in the form, I would like more than 1 MB of data to be transferred over the network to the client.
With Oracle Applications 11i, I was using this form: CRM Resource Manager, Vision Enterprises → Resources
This was nice because searching for all resources resulted in 4.6 MB of data being sent by the server. However, in Oracle Applications R12, the same query in the same form only sends about 100 KB of data. :-(
Does anyone know any other forms that have lots of data in them?
    - Kyle

Thanks for that - I found the form. However, it appears the database table is empty - when I perform a search for all jobs, no records are returned.Nevermind, after some trial and error I found a site that had lots of jobs defined. Thanks for the pointer!
I'm still running into the same problem I was seeing with the previous form I was using. This is what I'm doing:
    1. Open the form.
    2. Search for all records.
    3. Jump to the very last record.
In Oracle Applications 11i, this would cause a large amount of data to be transferred over the network (4.6 MB for the previous form I was using and 2.6 MB for this new "Discrete Jobs" form I'm trying). However, the behavior is different in Oracle Applications R12. When I perform the same steps in the same forms, only a fraction of the data is transferred over the network (~100 KB).
Ideally, I would like a set of steps (and a form) that will produce the same results in both 11i and R12. More realistically, I just need a form (or a new test procedure) in R12 that will spit out more than 1 MB of data.

  • Moving a VM with an RDM Data partition

We'll be moving a VM that has an RDM data partition. The RDM partition is not moving, just the OS partition, which is a virtual disk. If I understand the process I can do this by using the migrate function in VCenter. As long as I leave the VM powered up, I should be able to migrate the OS leaving the RDM attached to the VM through the move. Is there anything I am missing?  We're using VCenter version 4.0.  Thanks in Advance.

I have used repos.py to make a new cluster from the partition with the VM's on, and set it as root but I'm afraid that if I add the server while creating my pool in the Manager it will initialize it (ie. delete the VM's that are already there).Take a backup of the VMs first, but it shouldn't reformat/delete anything. Creating a pool with an existing repository just initializes that repository. It doesn't erase/format anything.

  • APX Crashes when trying to open an external folder with LOTS of subfolders.

Has anybody else encountered this? I have an external harddrive hooked up to my Airport Extreme (801.11n). I can access everything on it and I can copy things to and from it; however, there is one folder I cannot access. Every time I try to open my music folder, it'll completely reboot the airport extreme (kicks everybody off, light changes colors, disconnects the hard drive, etc). The only unique thing about my music folder is that it has lots of subdirectories. Not sure how many, but lots. I can access the folder just fine if I disconnect it from the airport extreme and put it straight into my MBP. It's getting really annoying. Almost no point in using my APX if I can't even access my songs... Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    Try the following steps:
Open Excel 2013, and go to
File –> Options –> Trust Center.
    Under
Trust Center settings, select Protected View and
    uncheck all options under it.
Restart the Excel 2013 to check the issue.

  • I moved a folder with most of my Itunes stuff on it and now i cant get it back. How can I fix this?

Does anyone know how to fix this. I have my iTunes stuff in like 3 differnt places hoping that one of them is right. But i can"t seem to fix it.

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • After moving a folder to an external drive i can still see the images even with the external drive off

I have moved a folder with a lot of subfolders onto an external drive but when I disconnect the external drive I can still view them in Lightroom. I thought this took them off my Mac Book Drive.

The previews that LR makes for itself are small and their size can be set in Preferences. The default is around 1600 pixels wide and it should be set to the size closest to your monitor resolution.
Another feature that might interest you is the ability to make Smart Previews, either at import or later. The SP is a 2560 pixels wide DNG, whereas the normal preview is a jpg, and as such can act as a surrogate for the Raw file and can be edited in place of it when the external drive is offline. When the drive is reconnected, the edits are associated with the original.

  • How to create a folder with date each day?

I've not used Automator, just once to "create" a workflow to create a new folder with a name; but what I want is this:
Each morning at 12:01 am, a new folder to be created with the correct date as the name of the folder.
So for tomorrow, Sunday 23 Nov 2008 at 12:01, I'd suddenly have a folder on my Hard Drive that would have the date like 23 Nov 2008 or 11/23/2008 or 23-11-2008 or similar.
Then at the end of a week I'd have 7 of these; - but I can manually trash them-- I want to create these on my HD since I backup via SuperDuper! each morning (automatically) at 3:35 am (incremental backup to an external La Cie HD) and I want to know if was done, so by having a folder with the date on it I can open the external HD and if I see that that folder with the recent date is there, then I'm confident the BackUp was run.
I have been able to create a workflow to create a folder in Automator, but not sure how to:
    1. Have the folder created automatically each day at 12:01
    2. How to have the folder label be the date
Thanks for any comments or certainly any other work-around or other way to do this or similar.
    Regards, Steve

Open the AppleScript Editor. Copy the following into it:
set dt to date string of (current date)
set mth to word 2 of dt
set dy to word 3 of dt
set yr to word 4 of dt
    set dtt to mth & " " & dy & " " & yr
    tell application "Finder"
    make new folder at alias "Macintosh HD:Users:username:Desktop:" with properties {name:dtt}
    end tell
Amend the path with your Hard Disk name and username. Save as an application to anywhere suitable.
In iCal, set up an event with a daily repeat and an alarm at the time you want it: under 'Alarm' choose 'Open file': then in the next menu which will appear change from 'iCal' to 'Other' and navigate to your script. Enter the date and time.
Your folder will be created as required: iCal does not need to be running. This script gives the folder name as, for example, 'November 22 2008', but it's easy to amend the script if you want something a bit different - for example:
    property zro : ""
set yr to year of (current date) as string
set dy to day of (current date)
set mt to month of (current date)
set dyy to dy as string
set nmm to the number of items in dyy
    if nmm is 1 then
    set zro to 0
    end if
    if mt is January then
    set mth to "01"
else if mt is February then
    set mth to "02"
else if mt is March then
    set mth to "03"
else if mt is April then
    set mth to "04"
else if mt is May then
    set mth to "05"
else if mt is June then
    set mth to "06"
else if mt is July then
    set mth to "07"
else if mt is August then
    set mth to "08"
else if mt is September then
    set mth to "09"
else if mt is October then
    set mth to "10"
else if mt is November then
    set mth to "11"
else if mt is December then
    set mth to "12"
    end if
    set dtt to mth & "-" & zro & dy & "-" & yr as string
    tell application "Finder"
    make new folder at alias "iBook HD:Users:roger:Desktop:" with properties {name:dtt}
    end tell
This gives the folder name as, for example, 11-22-2008. (The days will have leading zeros, if you don't want these just remove the references to 'zro'.)

  • Finding file with tomorrow's date in file name

I have a workflow where pdf files are going through a process and they could end up in an error folder.  The files all have the day's date embedded in their names.  I would like to set up a cron job looking for files that have dropped in an error folder with tomorrow's date on them.  Looking for today's date is trivial:
    find . -name *_`date +%m%d`_*.pdf | grep "Error"
And I have a cron job that runs after midnight looking for files and it will send me an email.  But most of the time the files have been in the Error directory for hours/days before -- how do I look for tomorrow-dated files the night before so that I can deal with them before I go to bed?
-- edited to add:  I am running SL 10.6.8  I don't seem to have gnuDate which would let me do the --date="1 day" thingy -- or maybe it is there and I don't understand how to embed it in the find command...

Well, once again, a whole morning of diligent searching doesn't get the answer, but the minute I hit post on the question, I find it.
    find . -name *_`date -v+1d +%m%d`_*.pdf | grep "Error"
Well, hope this helps somebody else!

  • How get Mailbox Folder Item Count for date range?

How to make query to Exchange 2013 like this:
query ItemCount (specified Mailbox, specified Folder (with subfolders), specified Date Range)?
I find this script for Exchange 2010: http://gsexdev.blogspot.ru/2012/10/item-age-sample-one-reporting-on-item.html
This script dont work for Exchange 2013 ((

I believe you are making the change on both the places in code, as this path version would be different in 2013

  • What is the best way to share an entire iPhoto '09 folder with both Mac and PC Users?

What is the best way to share an entire photo folder with lots of photos from iPhoto '09 with both Mac and PC Users?
I got over a 100 photos in just 1 of my photo folders.
I really don't want to have to email these photos individually...
There's gotta be an easier way to share an entire photo folder...

    Awesome, thx for clarifying it

  • Help with excel grouped data and sorting to keep data intact

I have a master spreadsheet with lots of data. I am trying to grouped the data based on physical address/city, add the values and once done sort it by valuation based on descending order by valuation but my data keep messing up.
So in Row 1/col A: Address 1; Col B City: XXX; Col C: Valuation $$$
    Row 2/col A: Address 1; Col B City: XXX; Col C: Vauation $$$
    Row 3/col A: Address 2; COl B City: YYY; Col C:  Valuation $$$
SO I sort by city and in ROw 1/2 same city with same address, I grouped it.  THen I created a new row below Row 3 and add up the grouped data (i.e. ROw 1 and 2).  I go through the entire list to finalize the grouped locations.
But when I am done and I sort by Valuation, all my data messed up coz I created a new row with addition of grouped location valuation and the formula gets messed up.
Any one with ideas please help.  My deadline for this project is just a week away and I am freaking out.
    THanks in advance.

it seems upload a sample is more clearly about the required.

  • Always used 1 main account.  Started using individual user accounts. So how do I use software or applications with a lot of data like Quicken under my own user account?

I recently upgraded our family's mac to OS X.  I thought this was the perfect time to create and use "user accounts".  We had always used 1 main account.  So how do I use software or applications with a lot of data like Quicken under my own user account?  I wanted to be able to manage my own itunes library, iphone apps, messages.  But I still really need to use the Stuff I have in Quicken essentials.  I don't want to have to restart all my work done in Quicken already.

I haven't used Quicken in a while, but most applications store your files in your Documents folder. Is that where your Quicken data file is? What you do next depends on how many family members need to get at that data.
If multiple family members need to use the Quicken data file, try moving it to the Documents folder in the Shared account. That is an account that all accounts can see. It's at the same level as the other accounts. In other words, Shared is one level up from your Home account, or Hard Drive/Users/Shared.
If you're the only one allowed to see that Quicken data, move the Quicken data file from the old main account to your account, and don't leave a copy behind. You can use the Shared folder as a way station for the transfer since you won't be able to see both accounts' Documents folders at the same time (because you're not allowed to peek into other people's accounts). Or you can use another disk or server for the transfer, as long as you can get to it when logged into either account.
