Moving a MobileMe Family Pack to iCloud. How to sync to one library

I've been putting off moving our devices from MoblieMe to iCloud, but it's fast approaching.
My problem is we use one Apple ID for all iTunes, AppStore purchases, but we have a collection of email addresses we use. @me.com
I see we can use each email address as an Apple ID for iCloud, but I want all the devices to sync photos, and purchases to one common iTunes and iPhoto Library.
Is this possible?
We've got the following devices.
27" iMac, my work computer
15" MacBook Pro, wifes computer. A modified MacBook Pro 3,1. It has an SSD Boot Drive, and the SuperDrive has been replaced with a regular HDD for user accounts.
1st Gen iPad
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
Both computers will be running Lion.
I'd like all photos and purchases made on the iDevices to sync to my wifes 15" MBP as this will be the home computer. We'll have two user accounts on this computer. Mine and her's. I assume that I can put the iTunes / iPhoto Libraries in the shared folder rather than user accounts?
Fingers Crossed I can make this work!

No unfortunately that is not entirely possible.
To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photosstream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
So in essence you can all have your own iCloud account and hence maintain your own e-mail, contacts and calendars and all use the same account for iTunes and therefore share your purchases such as music, books and apps et cetera. But a single user account on your Mac, can only sync with one primary account. You can add additional secondary accounts at system preferences >mail, contacts & calendars, but secondary accounts do not have all the features of the primary account including photo stream.

  • MobileMe Family Pack to iCloud email

    Greetings,
My question regards my former "family pack" on mobile me.
First, I have migrated all of my accounts and devices (well, until today) over to iCloud (3 macs, 3 iPhones, 1 iPad).
Under mobile me, I was the master account holder, and I had sub accounts (emails) setup for my wife and daighter - all good.
So, I used 2 of the 3 subaccounts available under my plan.
Christmas brought my Son a new iPad.
I figured I could just go in and use my 4th sub account to get him setup - however, under iCloud I see no provision to get to the account setup area.
Is this now obsolete? I know I've paid for my family pack through (I think June 2012) all I really want to do is setup my Son with an @me email account (which he really won't even use for awhile) and make it so he can access the app store, etc.
Do I have to setup a completely separate account for him (and pay yet another fee for iCloud service for him?
What happens when my current family pack expires - separate accounts (and fees) for each user?
    I'm confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to get this new iPad setup today :-)
    THANK YOU!

Her email address is her Apple ID. She should go to http://me.com/move and enter her MobileMe email address and password to upgrade: she will need to be running 10.7.2.

  • MobileMe Family Pack- Setting up old sub-account in Mail

This past spring we had a MobileMe Family Pack with one email account unassigned. Before MobileMe closed, i created an email address for my son, so that when he was ready to have one he would. Now i am trying to set that up for him, and am having quite a difficult time. I'm not sure if i'm setting it up wrong, or if it's even possible to do, since the account was never actually utilized before we migrated to iCloud.
I logged into his name on our iMac and tried to use System Preferences>iCloud to set it up. After asking for his name and DOB, it told me he was too young to have an iCloud account (or maybe it was an AppleID; he's 8 BTW). So, i opened Mail (which for some reason is hanging mecilessly at evey click, beachballs nonstop) and went through the setup assistant. I thought i set up an iCloud email account successfully, using the me.com email i had created back in MobileMe. I don't remember setting a password up at that time, but i put in the one i most likely would have used and it seemed to take it. But when i tried to send him a message from my Mail, it would not send because it rejected his address.
So, i went back into his Mail program and added an IMAP account using the same email address, using the incoming/outgoing server info from my account (p01-imap.mail.me.com & smtp.me.com:hisemailprefix). The incoming server for his iCloud IMAP account is not editable, BTW, and says mail.example.com in grey. Still no luck, both accounts cannot connect. When i try to check the iCloud account it says it can't connect to the iCloud server and asks for the password, and when i put in the one i used to set up the Mail account it doesn't accept it. this kind of makes sense since he doesn't seem to have a full-fledged iCloud account. When i try to check the IMAP account it says it's offline, and when i try to take it online it asks for password but won't connect. mail Connection Doctor says Mail is connecting to the internet.
Should i try to do this from my login and Mail, see if that works? Is there a way to reset the password i may have used when i originally assigned the MobileMe account? Does his Mail program constantly freezing mean something (all his other programs work fine)? Any advice is appreciated; thanks!

As you did not migrate his sub-account to iCloud when this was possible (it would have become a separate iCloud account) you cannot retrieve the contents of his account. However unmigrated MobileMe addresses (other than aliases) can be reactivated by signing into System Preferences>iCloud with them and enabling Mail in the checklist there. Until you do this the account is not an iCloud account.
As you have found there is an age limit. If you had given them an age greater than 12 you would have been able to set this up. As it is, it's not set up and no amount of setting it up manually in Mail or sending messages to it is going to work.
The iCloud Terms of Service say:
'The Service is available to individuals aged 13 years or older. If you are 13 or older but under the age of majority in your country of residence, you must review this Agreement with your parent or guardian to make sure that you and your parent or guardian understand it. Parents or guardians should also remind any minors that conversing with strangers on the Internet can be dangerous and take appropriate precautions to protect children, including monitoring their use of the Service.'
Given this, it would not be proper to advise you to apply again mis-stating his age, even if the fact that you've already told them he is 8 does not technically bar you from doing this.

  • Using MobileMe Family Pack with iPad

I have a iPad and a MobileMe Family Pack subscription.
Why can't I have more MobileMe mail accounts, but not have my Calendars and Contacts of more then one MobileMe member account?
I also would like to see user management on the iPad!
Is there a work around available?
    Thanks!

    HI,
Setting up MobileMe aliases may work for you.
    MobileMe: About email aliases
but not have my Calendars and Contacts of more then one MobileMe member account?
An alias does not have it's own calendar or contacts.

  • Family Pack to iCloud

I have myself and 3 family members in a Mobileme family account. I've moved my wife over to iCloud this morning without a hitch, and want to move my daughter and brother in law too.
If I as the administrator of the account move myself to iCloud, I believe that the family pack effectively ceases to exist and I can't administer it anymore. Does this however mean that the remaining 2 family members still have Mobileme access and that their mail will work until they decide to change over to iCloud themselves?

I migrated the primary account and then I migrated my 1 $10 additional user account and it appeared to work but now when I try to login to iCloud with that additional user account it keeps trying to migrate it?   I use the same mac account for purchases for both the primary and the addition user account.  How can I tell if it migrated or if it is still stuck in .me?

  • Backups over the Internet Using MobileMe Family Pack

I know how to configure an AirPort (AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule) to be accessible for Back to My Mac using a MobileMe account. However, we have a Family Pack. I am the Pack master, so I used my ID to set up Back to My Mac on my Time Capsule (and Air Port Extreme at our other location). This seems to just make the master account work. Should the master account enable all of the MobileMe family accounts to leverage Back to My Mac (and hence things like remote backups)?

Recent update to AirPort enables multiple MobileMe accounts to be used for BackToMyMac

  • Using iWeb with MobileMe family pack

I just upgraded to the family pack for mobile me. I had been using it for my homepage, but now I'd like to make a homepage for my son, and my wife wants to make a homepage as well.
How is this handled in iWeb? I don't see a way to tell it where to publish which site when I add a new site.
What is the easiest way to handle multiple mobile me websites on one mac?
    Thanks.

Not having used the sharing option since there's only one user on my Mac, I don't know the ins and outs of what you want to do. Terence Develin might. If you want to share the library with all users and have them be able to access the library, import new file and perform edits then the best solution is to put the library on an external HD whose ownership has been set to off. This Apple document explains the process: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users.
The drive can also be used to backup other files as well.

  • I have the family pack for aperture How does the second user update? it keeps telling me to sign in on the other computer??

I have 2 computers using aperture. How do I update the second user? It keeps asking for my computer sign in??

How did you purchase Aperture?  I don;t believe there was ever a 'Family Pack' for Aperture (or any of the Pro Apps for that matter).
So in order to help we'll need to know how you are trying to install Aperture, where you bought it from and the version.

  • ICloud - how to sync content on two macs into one account?

I have multiple devices and I plan to start migrating my stuff into the iCloud. I am trying to do this step by step and I am running into a lot of challenges. I am hoping to find some help for me to sync my second mac to my account.
    1. I chose to use my MobileMe account as my iCloud ID, so that my MobileMe stuff gets to the cloud. Not my Apple ID.
    2. I then sync'd my old macbook with my iPhone 4 - all apps on the computer does to the phone. All my photos show up too. So far so good.
    3. I then login to my mac mini, and use the same iCloud Apple ID. But, the apps on the laptop and the phone just does not show up here - even after I went to Preference and select sync Music, Apps and Books.
    4. I later use this mac mini and downloaded some iTunes U podcast. I connect it to the iphone 4 device, it started to sync. The instance it finished sync'ing, the cloud erase all of it. It's an infinite loop that it keeps copying and deleting the podcast.
Question:  How can I sync my mac mini to the same iCloud account? Other than logging in with the same Apple ID. I am not sure what else I can do.
    Thank you!

OSX apps are not "synced", neither the ibooks, music or apps from iOS are. They are held available for you in iOS' appstore and Mac Appstore to re-download them later again. Apps, books, etc do not appear in your personal cloud at all. They are not part of your 5GB account.
Music/Video purchases from iTunes in the cloud  are not available in every country.

using the same Apple-ID you use on your other iCloud devices, this is the way to sync. Nothing wrong there.

  • How do I use one library for multiple iPods

I have three girls that recently got iPod nano's. I would like to use only one library for their music etc. How do I do this. when I installed the first one it worked great. Then when I installed the second one it won't recognize the first one. Then when I went back to factory settings on the first and synched her music the second one is not recognized. Help......

Sorry, guess I am not using the "technical lingo". I already had itunes on my computer for a medical review course that I purchased to study for a certification exam. When nano #1 was purchased I hooked it up, registered it, and synched music to it. When my daughter tried to play songs, the songs titles and songs were mixed (song didn't match title). I hooked it up to the computer. It said it needed to be formatted. So I did and reregistered and synced the songs back on. Everything ok. Second nano hooked up, registered, named different name than #1, synched with the music she wanted. Tried to hook up #1 and it didn't recognize the nano. I went to the website and found out how to "find" it on the computer, followed the instructions to find it, and again it had to be "formatted" to have it recognized. I was again able to sync her music. Will I have to do this everytime I try to sync more music? that could be a real pain!
thanks for any help for this sometimes electronically challenged mom.

  • How many tvs can i sync to one library?

This is a simple question, I know. Is there a limit to how many tvs i can sync to my hypothetical Mac Pro? I'm a very analytical buyer and can't find a confirming statement to satisfy.
If you'd like to dive further: I am constantly trying to design the simplest whole-house media experience. (not financially fit, yet dreamily idealistic). My latest reduction is this: 1 Mac Pro jammed full of iTunes music/movies and eyeTV recordings. An tv/tv/sound system in every desired room(5). And a MacBook to float around. Your thoughts? (if you must burst my bubble, try let me down easy)

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Not sure I can answer your question with 100% certainty, but have likely got some good news for you.
I have 5 tv's and 7 macs from which they feed. Not every tv is linked to every mac indeed it can't be, a single tv can only sync with one itunes library and stream from up to 5. However the itunes library on my mac is our main library and is used by every tv.
Whilst I am certain that each tv can work with up to 5 libraries I have never seen any specifications about how many tv's a single library can support, although I have delved into the text strings buried inside the itunes application and seen error messages which tend to suggest the answer is 5. Clearly only having 5 tv's I'm unable to test my findings.
I have seen a report about someone setting up 40 tv's in a motel from one library, but I have my suspicions that even if true it might not be quite as straight forward as it seems, but who am I to question other peoples claims.
However since you seem to indicate you want to have 5 tv's I am able to confirm that 5 do work.
Although this may be initially good news for you, you may have to give the matter a little more thought. I have set up an gigabit ethernet network to which my mac is directly attached as are 4 wifi networks to enable 3 of the tv's to work wirelessly alongside a number of other wifi devices I have running in our household.
Also whilst I don't actually know, I suspect I have never actually had 5 tv's trying to stream from my library at once, indeed I suspect I have never had more than 3 tv's actually working at once from the same library, although I suppose it would be easy enough to test more.
If you suspect that you may need 5 tv's working from the same library at the same time then you might want to implement syncing to reduce the possible load on your network and your single library, as each tv is capable of syncing with a single library it would be possible to enable syncing on all your tv's.
If you have anymore specific questions about my set up or how it works please feel free to ask, as I have only given you a basic outline of my experience.

  • MobileMe Family Pack

Are the calendars and contacts separate for each individual user? Example: 5 users, each with own computer using Outlook and own iPhone, will each users Outlook sync with each users iPhone individually? Is the MobileMe online calendar separate also? Is each account standalone?

If those 5 different users have their own email addresses then yes it will as per your example.
The online calender will sync with the email account associated with it. Each account is standalone.
If the single user gives you one key, then the family gives multiple keys to use as single users.
