Moving a project from Garageband version 4 to version 3

I've recorded some backing tracks on my MBP using version GB 4.1.2 but need to finish the track on my MacPro which is running GB 3.04. Which is the best strategy to get the tracks from V4 to run on V3.
Any advice appreciated

  • "Moving a project from network L: drive to C: drive - how do I relink the files?

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS3D22F379-B6C7-4d8c-9548-26AA3E1EA74F.html
In the above thread "Moving a project to another computer" it states the assets should retain their file names and folder locations so that Premiere Pro can find them and relink them to their clips in the project automatically and although I'm only a novice PP user that is standard advice for any software.  However I can't find advice anywhere on how to swap a project from one disk drive to another on the same computer.
What I want to do is move the project media files off my network (L:) drive to the C: drive of the editing computer as all the advice on here about disk drives is not to use network drives.  I've copied the files over but how do I replace the media file links within the PP project which are currently pointing to the sub-folders on my L:drive with replacement one's pointing to the same folder names but with the path as C: drive.  Sorry if it is a numpties question but I'm not finding the answer via search.
Reason for shifting project - for some reason the sequence files were being lost when I reopened the project so I had to reuse the last good auto-save despite loss of some editing work and the project had also suddenly started taking up to an hour to load all the linked media.  Given the advice about not using network drives decided to eliminate one of the possible causes before going any further with risk of losing the edited file..

I strongly agree with Jim on where to relocate the Project and media files.
Now, when you do Move the files, the Paths (absolute) in the PRPROJ file(s), will no longer be correct. The drive letter will have changed.
When you Open your Project from its new location, you will get a question dialog, "Where is file _____ ?" for the first Asset, where the link is now broken. Using the Finder, navigate to the folder, where that first missing Asset is NOW located, and select that. PrPro will then look in that folder, and will automatically relink to all Assets in that folder. If you have your Assets in multiple folders, you will need to repeat, for each folder, and again, PrPro will relink to all Assets in THAT folder. Depending on the folder/sub-folder hierarchy, you will have to repeat for all folders.
When all Assets have been relinked, I would immediately do a Save_As, incrementing the Project's name, so as to NOT overwrite that original Project file - just in case you ever need to revisit that.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can I import Events and Projects from previous versions of iMovie

I just installed the latest version of iMovie - but I have a bunch of projects, events, etc. from previous version - going way back.  Is there a way to move those items into the new version.

Yes.  File - Update Projects and Events.  Your iMovie 9 folders will still be available.  (I would not delete any iMovie 9 stuff untill you are happy with iMovie 10 - its quite different.)

  • Moving Multitake Project From one Machine to Another?

    Hello all,
I just finished a multitake session of ADR on my Macbook Pro. I want to do the hardcore review and editing/mixing of the session on my Mac Pro. I tried moving the project file as well as the contents of the "Edited Media", "Recordings" and "Temporary Files" (found in the "Documents" folder) to the Mac Pro, but STP keeps crashing. I can open the session fine on the laptop.
Is there something I missed in the move? I moved everything to the same/correct folders on the Mac Pro and both machines are running STP version 2.0.2.
FYI: The laptop is running 10.5.6, but the Mac Pro (for arcane reasons I won't bore you with) is currently at 10.4.11.
Any ideas or advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Best,
    Patrick

    Hello MacEnstien
I read your response to the previous question. And I have a similar problem. When I did the "Save As" I collected the files. Dropped them onto my external drive and dumped them on my laptop. And on my laptop when I open the project everything works but I can't see the video clip? What should I do?

  • Updating projects from earlier versions of FCPX to FCPX 10.01.3. FCP does'nt see the project i want to update.

I've successfully updated projects that were already in previous version libraries, but have some archived ones from earlier versions of FCPX which the program does not see to update. Any ideas on how to do this!

I am assuming you mean projects from 10.0.x
You need to place them in the traditional location "Final Cut Projects" (at the root of an external drive or inside your Movies folder), and likewise your events inside a folder "Final Cut Events".
Then use File->Update Projects and Events...

  • Problem Moving XCode Project From iMac to MacBook

I have been working with an Objective C library for iPhone apps using XCode on a iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63). My project builds fine on this system. I need to relocate the project to a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.4 (12E55). I have XCode 4.6.3 installed on both systems. The project fails to build on the Mac Book pro. I get two compile errors, both claiming "No visible @interface for 'xxx' declares the selector 'yyy'". (xxx and yyy are class and method names respectively.) The source code appears correct, and as I mentioned this very same project builds fine on the iMac.
I can zip the project directory structure on the MacBook and copy it back to the iMac, and it again compiles just fine.
The project will also build on another iMac using XCode 4.6.1
I've tried stuff like deleting the schemes and re-creating them, etc.
I'm rather new to the Apple development world. The code was developed by someone else, and unfortunately I can't really call him in on this. So if anyone has run into anything like this, I'd appreciate knowing what the causes/remedies might be. Thanks..

Sorry. There is no remedy other than doing it correctly the first time. What you will have to do is rebuild the project from scratch.
Do all of the following on the original machine. Create a new project using the correct template for whatever you are building. Use git SCM. Setup all of the plist and bundle IDs to be the same as the original. Then, open up the original project. Drag all of the source files except for main.m from the old project to the project navigator of the new one. When promped, make sure you copy the files to the destination. Once you have all of the files copied over, get the project running again. I'm sure you will have difficulty because there are probably other things that were done incorrectly.
Once you have the new app working, you can transfer it to the new machine. You might want to look at setting up a remote repository. You will also want to do additional testing. Once you familiarize yourself with the code, you might want to split it back up again into an organization that makes sense for you.

  • Import project from older version of GB

Hey all , just wondering if I can import a song I was working on in GB 11 into GB 10 so I finish there.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks, Jim.

    Jim,
GarageBand 10 can open GarageBand '11 songs. But it will convert the project  to a new format and save a new copy, and you will not  be able to open the new version in GB '11.
To open your GarageBand '11 song on GarageBand 10.0, launch GB 10.0 and use the "File > Open" menu.  or ctrl-click the project and select "Open with GarageBAnd 10.0" from the contextual menu.

  • Moving a project from one library to another

I created a new library for my 2013 photos and imported some photos from my camera. In my previous library (last year's photos), is a project for January 2013 PhotoStream pictures, and I'd like that in my new 2013 library. How can I do this? I have the most current version of Aperture.

The size of the library is not critical for the overall performance. You may notice a little reduce in speed, if the projects are gigantic. I would not put thousands of images into one single project.
But it is more important to keep plenty of free disk space on your system drive, and to have the Aperture library on a fast drive with a fast connection. Also fix your Aperture library by repairing it, if you had a crash or you force quit Aperture.
If Aperture is slow, try to find out, what it is doing by looking at the Activity window (Window > Show Activity). There you can see, if Aperture is processing previews, scanning for faces, etc. Sometimes Aperture is processing the same image over and over again. If you see this happen, remove the the image from the library. Probably it is corrupted.

  • Moving a project from FCP 10.0 to 10.1

Was just asked to colour grade a 2 hour show edited in the earlier FCPX 10.01 (Brazil).  I want to import that whole project into FCPX 10.1.1.
Where might I find the particular protocol (or maybe a tutorial even) for importing the earlier version project to the latest version of FCPX 10.1.1?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated,
    Ben

This is VERY good advice Russ, thank you.  The editor was bouncing back and forth between two version of FCPX, and was very confused about where things were ending up on her drives.  I plan to do some very careful research before messing with anything.
I never worked with the earlier FCPX, so am not up on the protocol.  But I do remember that tutorial from Ashley Kennedy.  Which I'm going to watch most carefully before proceeding.
And do a tidying job as you suggest.
What I want to do first is make a copy of her entire project, move it somewhere safe, before proceeding.
And then get rid of the 450 hours of shots she had to contend with, and all those sequences etc. that never made it into the film.  Dump them.  And just have the final film sequence to deal with.
    Thanks mucho...

  • Working with projects from older version of FCPx

Recently upgrade to 10.1.2  Having been unable to export following updating OS to 10.9.3.
i still have the project files on my HD that I was working on prior to the update. My question is, how do I import these into the version I am working with now, as they are not in a library?

YYou don't import projects and events. You update them from within the app.
    HAve these been updated already?
Have you trashed prefferences? Command + Option when you launch will bring up a dialog.

  • Moving Logic Projects from 7 to 9...

I bought a new laptop and installed Logic 9. My old desktop had Logic 7. When I open projects in Logic 9, Battery and my Korg stuff don't seem to load how they should. What am I doing wrong? I'm assuming any non-Logic stuff just isn't loading correctly. Help! :/

    Data Stream Studio wrote:
if they don't load the way they should, how do they load? More info needed. Did you go from a ppc machine to an intel one? Maybe you need newer versions of your plugins.
Yes the projects were on a PPC machine and now I'm on Intel. I've updated all the plugins. They work if I just open a new track (even in the same project) and then find the instrument and open it. They work that way. They just don't load. They have a diagonal dash through them and it still says what they are - Battery, Monopoly, etc. If I try clicking to open the instrument it just doesn't work. If I hold down to select a new instrument it'll show the current instrument at the top, but the text is faded.

  • IMovie HD/08: Need help merging projects from both versions.

I have some video that was imported using iMovie HD6 (saved to my internal hard drive with some editing already done) and some using iMovie 08. (Save to an external hard drive and unedited). I realized later that iMovie 08 lacks features available on iMovie HD6. I would like to move all video to my external hard drive and merge my projects. I would then like to edit the whole thing on iMovie HD6. I've noticed that I can simply drag my iMovie 08 project directly into iMovie HD6 and directly into my other project. However, it wants to save it to my internal hard drive. (No where near enough space on my internal drive for that). Is it safe to assume that if I were to move my iMovie HD6 project onto my external drive that it would then attempt to import/merge my iMovie 08 project keeping it on my external drive? Also, do I run a risk of losing any editing already done to my iMovie HD6 project if I move it to my external drive? If not, is there a right or wrong way to move it? Also, my external drive is connected to my computer via USB. Am I going to have any problems editing from my external drive because of that?

I am trying to transfer a movie project I made on my work computer (MacBook Pro, iMovie '08) to my home computer (iMovie HD, iBook). I've transferred the files using a Lacie, but when I open iMovie HD on my personal computer, it does not let me open the project I desire.
As you have already found, iMovie '08 projects, as such, are not backwards compatible with previous versions of iMovie. iMovie '08's project basically consists of a list of instructions detailing how a project is to be exported while previous versions of iMovie actually rendered physical file segments ordered properly in a physical timeline reference file.
I can import, but not the whole file, it keeps putting items in the trash. I have exported Mobile, Medium, and Large files.
Basically you have two options. You can either import your raw footage (the Event clips) and "re-create" a project in iMovie HD or export your iMovie '08 project, complete with edits to an HD compatible format (e.g., DV or AIC/AIFF) and import this file into iMovie HD. Unfortunately, this latter approach will not allow you to "manipulate" your previous edits.
Basically, I want to be able to open the file in iMovie, in case I wanted to duplicate it or edit it.
As indicated above, you can import iMovie '08 shared/exported files to iMovie HD but you then have to edit them as source files. To remove a previous edit, you would literally have to delete it from your new project in order to add another.
I also want to be able to continue burning copies of this movie slideshow to DVD (I created a DVD project using iDVD).
Previously authored and burned DVDs can be copy-burned by applications like Toast or used to create stored "image" files that can be used to burn new DVDs on an as needed basis in the Mac OS "Burn" folder or using the Disk Utility application. In fact the "image" file can also be created for this purpose from within iDVD.

  • Moving a project between two versions of FCP- Home and College

Hope someone can help. We're editing a project on an iMac at home, and a G5 at college. Our iMac is running FCP 5, the college ones are still on FCP 4. If we open the saved files, from an external HD, that we have been working on in college, we cannot then open those files in college again. We don't have version 4 to install on our machine, and the college won't buy version 5. Is there any way artound this problem, or do we have to work on the project in sections, then assemble the final peice on the iMac? We can get advice and help in college, and we need our teacher to help us with certain sections, so we need to be able to open up the project in college too, after we've worked on it at home.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, no XML in version 4.0 - it was introduced in 4.1 (which, unlike the upgrade from 5.0.x to 5.1, is simply a download from Apple, if the school will let you update).
In terms of what version of XML you should use:
Version 1 for FCP 4.1 to 4.5 (aka FCP HD)
Version 2 for FCP 5.0.0 to FCP 5.1.1
    Version 3 for FCP 5.1.2 to 5.1.4
    (Version 4 for FCP 6.0)
