Moving a .pst file (pop3) away from ssd

Hi is it possible to relocate the .pst files ( from multiple pop3 accounts ) to another disk (on the same system i.e. Not network)
I have tried moving and then re-pointing the 'data' file from account settings. this seems to work in that all emails are there but none of the accounts will download or send

If the mail configuration is OK, we may try creating a new mail profile in Control Panel and reconfiguring your email account to see the result. See:

  • Using POP3 away from your home broadband

    I have just moved over to BT from using Tiscali as my ISP for many years. In the past when I set up a POP3 email account I used the SMTP server of the specific email service for sending my mail OUT. I now discover, but only after asking the question of the help desk, that as a new BT customer I may not use any SMTP sever but 'mail.btinternet.com'. This is fine while I am working from home but presents problems when I am out on the road.
    I have about 10 email accounts set up on my laptop from which I collect mail daily and then reply to them. Since moving to BT I have set up all the accounts with the BT SMTP server but when I away from home it will not be possible to SEND thru this server. My only option is to wait until I get home to send my mail (And BTW I will not be able to make a second collection during the day before coming home as the mail client will error on the sending. I am using Windows Live Mail and there is no option to *only* collect mail without sending). My other option is to go thru every account individually and reconfigure the SMTP sever (10 times) or I could log into every account via webmail.
    I am pretty fed up with this state of affairs as it is not documented in BT material. If I'd known that this would be a limitation I would not have gone with BT in the first place. I cannot be the only one with this issue. Clearly anyone using solely their BT email account, for instance, is prevented from using a POP3 client away from their home base.
    Any ideas?

    Last week I set up another new broadband connection at a site I work at but this was an Orange service, not BT. I tried using my desktop client to do my email and noticed that while the mail came in fine under the POP3, the outgoing mail was failing. As I mentioned before I am using 10 different accounts from a variety of different services: Googlemail, Yahoo, Tiscali and a couple of services provided by my web hosting suppliers. While these had worked fine under my Tiscali account they seemed to be failing under Orange. (Actually, as it turned out later, it was only the outgoing Tiscali mail that was failing). After a few calls to the help desk I was advised that I could *only* use the Orange SMTP server for sending mail under the new broadband package. I therefore changed all my accounts so that mail was sent out thru the Orange SMTP sever. For some strange reason I was still getting failures if I used Outlook Express or Outlook (an old version). However, when I changed to using Windows Live the problem disappeared and I am now able to send mail OUT from a variety of accounts with the reply address given as the one attached to the account.
    When, this week, I set up a BT broadband line at a different site, I thought that I had better check with the BT helpline whether it had the same policy as Orange. I was informed categorically that I could only use the BT SMTP server (mail.btinternet.com) to send mail OUT. No other SMTP server would work. Naively, I accepted this at face value and did not try setting up any accounts with non-BT SMTP servers. Instead I set up all my accounts using the BT server, as I had done under Orange, but still the outgoing mail failed. It seems that you cannot send mail FROM BTinternet with a reply address different from that associated with the broadband account. I made multiple calls to the help desk and three times operatives used their remote assistance software to take over my screen and check all the settings. Not once did anyone suggest the simple expedient of using, say, the Googlemail SMTP server. On one occasion I even got a help desk supervisor to take over my screen and even he didn't give me an answer.
    I had discovered from my own on-line searches that BT appeared to adopt a different policy from Orange when it came to sending out email under a non-BT email address. They require you to *verify* the address first. They give the instructions here... http://www.btyahoo.com/verify. I tried to follow them but the instructions do not line up with the screens you get. It was at this point I got the senior help-desk guy to tandem my screen so he could see what was happening. Even he had to agree that the screens did not match up and it was clear to me by the way his mouse was whizzing around the screen that he had never done this before. However, after a bit of trial and error he got it to work. After declaring your non-BT account, the server sends out an email to the target email account; you log into the target, non-BT account, open the email and copy&paste a ref number into a box on the BT screen. In principle, once you know what to do, its fairly straightforward. However, it didn't work! I still got failures when I tried to send mail from the 'verified' account and I could find no way to list my 'verified' accounts or backtrack and repeat the process.
    I even emailed the support people with the query -- more or less the same wording I posted here and, to be fair, I got a phone call pretty quickly following my email. I can't fault them on speed of response. The woman I spoke to suggested I used the alternative server SMTP.MAIL.YAHOO.COM and even suggested that I did not need to set it up with a username/password. Complete nonsense of course and it did not work. She also referred me to BT FON service, which, again was completely irrelevant.
    At one point during the day, one guy who took over my screen and, having fiddled around, clearly not knowing what he was doing (the mouse pointer wanderings tell it all!), concluded that he had done his best and BT would have to start charging me if I wanted them to continue working on the problem.
    I have wasted hours on this problem and all because (1) I was given wrong information in the first place and (2) I was stupid enough to believe what I was told by an Indian Call Centre (I have learned my lesson now!). They are only capable of understanding and dealing with very simple problems that don't in any way deviate from their script.
    The principles appear be:
    (1) If you are using the ISP's own, dedicated SMTP service you do not have to check 'my server requires authentication' as the server knows who you are by virtue of the fact that you are coming in via a known broadband line.
    (2) You cannot use the ISP's own SMTP server on a different line, say at wifi hotspot, to send your mail using a desktop client even if you check 'my server requires authentication'.
    (3) When changing ISPs you cannot leave the old ISP's SMTP server in your account configuration - you must change it.
    (4) If you are a peripatetic laptop user and need to be able to use any available internet connection to send your mail, then all you have to do is configure each mail account setting in your desktop client with a non-ISP specific SMTP server. Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail should work OK or you can use the SMTP server provided by your web hosting company (if it provides email in addition to web space - which most appear to do these days). However, you will have to check 'my server requires authentication' and also provide the username+password for the account, which will different from the POP2 account login.
    Does that sound right?

    You may simply enable and apply a GPO security setting to audit the object access, and then make the GPO link to the container which contains the file server that you want to audit.

  • Outlook 2010 won't send email after a move of the .pst file.

    I moved the pst file from an external drive to C:. When I restarted outlook, it asked where the file was located. After selecting the pst file in the new location, it all appeared fine. The mail was there and could be read and new mail was received. However,
    it was soon discovered that the outbox was piling up and no mail could be sent. I have tried creating a new profile as suggested in other help articles, but this simply created a new and different pst and mail structure. How can I get the old one to be
    able to send mail again?

    What type of account are you using? POP3 or IMAP?
    You mentioned you created a new profile to setup the account, can you send emails with the new profile?
    If issue persists, some security program and firewall may cause the sent mail stuck in Outbox issue, please disable the firewall and anti-virus program to test the result again.
    We can also run Outlook in Safe Mode to determine if 3rd-party add-ins caused this issue:
    Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
    If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
    In case the .pst file was damaged during the move, we can also run scanpst.exe to repair the .pst file, test if this helps:

  • Outlook 2013 Won't Display My Archived Mail PST Files

    Hi there,
    I have recently upgraded to Outlook 2013 from 2010. I have archived mail in PST files going back many years. I managed to open the first one I tried (Outlook 2003 archive) but noticed it wouldn't display sent items on a common search. I then clicked on the
    name bar to sort by name and it did do it. Later when I went back in it wouldn't display any sent items; it just has the "thinking" dots moving at the top. I left it for 3 hours but nothing. I then closed the archive and moved the PST file to my
    C drive and tried again; nothing. I opened another PST file but still nothing shows.
    Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm thinking of going back to Outlook 2010 but would rather get 2013 to work properly.

    From the description, the problem is that the archive.pst file you created in Outlook 2003 doesn't display anything when opened in Outlook 2013, right? If I've misunderstood something, would you please provide a screenshot so that we can understand this
    issue more clearly? 
    What's the file size of the PST file? It may cause unexpected problem if the file size exceed the limit. See:

    I have a pst file with contacts from an old outlook account.  How do I get the contacts in that pst onto my iPhone 5s?  Either through my PC (Windows)?  iCloud? or iTunes?

    To get the contacts in your iCloud online address book with the new computer, you must download and install the iCloud control panel making your iCloud contacts available and synced with Outlook on the PC. Add the contacts from the pst file to Outlook and in your iCloud address book.
    If you can get the pst file exported as a vCard, you can import vCards into your iCloud online address book with a browser.

  • How do I stream purchased movies to my Macbook Pro if I've already downloaded them and moved the source files to an external desktop hard drive and I'm away from home?

    I recently added a number of movies to my iTunes library by redeeming digital copeis that came with Blu-rays. Due to limted disc space on my MacBook Pro, and for safe keeping, once I downloaded the movies, I moved the source files to an external desktop hard drive. When I'm home and I'm able to access that external HD via my home network, I'm able to watch the movies without an issue. However, if I'm away from home and I want to watch them, I'm not sure how to do that. I thought I could "stream" purchased movies from within iTunes  - even after downloading them - using "iTunes in the Cloud" but can't figure out how to do that, or it simply isn't possible.
    What are my options?

    I understand that I can't play my downloaded movies when my external HDD is not connected becuase iTunes is looking for the downloaded files. This is not the issue. The issue is that because my HDD is not connected (as in when I'm away from home) I'd like to be able to stream the movies via the cloud.
    If I hadn't downloaded the movies when I redeemed my codes, would I have been able to keep the movies online via Apple iCloud and watched them anytime by streaming them or must the movies be downloaded in order to be viewed on my MacBook?  I read that Apple allows movies purchased (or redeemed) via iTunes to be stored in the cloud via Apple iCloud so that they can be viewed any time, on any device.  IF this is the case, how does it work? From what I can see, it looks like movies can only be "streamed" from the cloud when useing Apple TV; on my iPhone and MacBook Pro, it looks like they need to be downloaded in order to be viewed.
    Can someone clarify this for me?
    Also - Michael - when you said that If I've already downloaded the film but I'm away from my external HDD I should "Delete the entry from the iTunes library so iTunes only sees the iTunes in the Cloud version", what exactly would this mean? Would this mean that I could then stream the movie from the cloud or would I have to re-download it to my Mac's internal HDD in order to watch it?

  • Moving to Exchange Online from SBS 2003/Exchange 2003 using PST files instead of cut over migration?

    I have a friend who runs a small company with approximately 10 users.  They are currently using Small Business Server 2003 and are using Exchange 2003 to a limited degree.  They are using POP accounts with a hosting company for external email and
    are using Exchange for internal email and calendar sharing.  They have several different versions of Outlook including 2003, 2007, and 2010. Most of the users have two mail accounts configured in Outlook - one Exchange account and one account with a hosting
    company which provides POP mail boxes.  Their MX record currently points to the hosting company not their exchange server.  As far as I know, they do not have any static IP addresses or if they do, they are not using them.
    I do not believe Outlook versions about 2010 will work with Exchange 2003 and their server is getting older and probably needs an upgrade.
    I think they should probably move to Exchange Online since they do not have an IT person on staff.
    I've done some research and it looks like the recommended solution is a cut-over migration from Exchange 2003 but it looks like that would require some changes to the existing SBS 2003 / Exchange 2003 server and I'm not sure that we would be comfortable
    making those changes.
    Would it be possible to sign-up and create the user accounts using Exchange Online and just import the data from the user's PST files?
    I tried doing some research it looks like it is possible but one post mentioned needing to modify the mailbox’s legencyDN or they may not be able to reply to old messages.  How difficult is that?  Can it be done after the messages have been migrated
    to Exchange Online.
    They only have about 10 users so we are looking for the simplest way to move to Exchange Online, not necessarily the fastest or most efficient.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    It seems that can’t migrate on-premise Exchange 2003 public folders to an Office 365.

    This function may be one of the few things that IE does better than Firefox. IE lets you change the temporary file location in Tools - Internet options - Settings. Firefox developers should make this task easier and put the instructions in the Help file where they can be easily found.
    Since I use an SSD for Drive C, I have learned that any file(s) that are frequently written to should be moved elsewhere to a conventional HDD.

    when i run the script i need to typed the MailAccount (before the @), It will add the extension automatically (example: domain.com)
    i need to type the password to mailbox
    he script will export all mail to file (the file was [MailBoxAccount].pst ).
    File destination is a network folder (A fixed location write down script).
    At the end it will write me the following information: exports of the box (box name) was successful.
    If you can write down the file size that would be great.
    I was looking for a great many sites on exports from the cloud information (not from Office 365) and found something that could really help me.

    There are people with very great knowledge, not down from the level of knowledge of the consultant that sometimes is not objective (as it receives financial compensation from software to market).
    Maybe its a complex request, but still it is appropriate to ask in the forum because maybe there are people who engaged or know part of the solution or how to do this.
    For example:
    SMB business opened a mailbox for each employee a normal (organizational) in Gmail, whether he can export the data to PST file? The script should be pretty similar (only the server address & port was different).
    I am sure that the possibility exists, because Microsoft would prefer and promote the transfer of users to Exchange.

  • Moving Away From Auto Modes

    Moving Away From Auto-Exposure   
    Exposure modes
    Auto-exposure mode on your camera does provide generally good photographs, but taking full advantage of the more advanced capabilities of your digital camera will provide even better results. Most modern camera’s have a number of preset exposure modes, and some more advanced cameras’ (especially DSLR’s) have two semi-manual exposure modes and full manual exposure control.
      Portrait mode
    The most common preset is the portrait setting. This mode should have the flash on at all times in case it is needed for correct exposure, as well as isolating the subject in a way that the background and foreground are out of focus and only the subject is in focus.
    Action mode
    Another common preset is the action setting. As the name implies this is a great setting to use if you are photographing sports, or any subject that is moving fast and you want to stop its action.
    Landscape mode
    Landscape preset is also a common preset mode on modern cameras. This mode should have the flash off since the subject is most often outside and well lit, and this mode should also keep detail in the foreground and especially the background in focus.
    Macro mode
    For those of you that like taking images of small subjects (i.e. flowers) most digital cameras also have a preset called macro mode. Macro mode should have the flash on at all times since at higher magnifications even the slightest movement of the subject will blur the image. The flash not only effectively stops the movement of the subject but also evenly illuminates the subject.
    Night mode
    Night mode as the name implies is a preset some camera’s have for taking photographs at night. This mode is generally the least useful preset due to the fact that nighttime photography is perhaps the most challenging photography there is. This mode will turn the flash off, and also turn what’s called noise reduction on. Noise reduction is a setting that helps eliminate the digital noise that is caused by low levels of light on digital camera sensors.
    Semi-manual modes
    Most DSLR’s and some more advanced point and shoot cameras have two semi-manual modes and full manual mode. The semi-manual modes are aperture priority which generally controls what is in focus by adjusting the aperture (the size of the opening in the lens), and shutter priority controls how long the shutter is open which either will blur the image or stop action. The last mode is full manual which allows the user to control both the shutter and the aperture to get the correct exposure allowing the greatest creative control over your images, but requiring the most expertise.
    Moving Away From Auto-Flash   
    Turn off your Auto-Flash
    Most digital camera’s while set on auto-flash, especially point and shoot cameras, don’t allow the user to choose when the flash is on or off. This will usually produce adequately exposed images, but just because your subject is correctly exposed doesn’t mean it’s lighted how it should be. Controlling how you light your subject will make the difference between good images and great ones. To do this you should definitely consider moving away from auto-flash.
    Fill Flash
    When shooting outdoors the camera might read that there is enough light and not fire the flash, but if your shooting a subject that is back lit or top lit a small amount of flash will light up your subject and provide superior results ( this is called fill flash ).
    Red eye reduction
    Another flash setting that most cameras provide is red eye reduction. This setting will fire a series of flashes at your subject to contract their pupils so the flash doesn’t reflect the red from their retinas back to the sensor. This mode works fairly well, but due to the time needed for the pre flashes your subject often will have changed by the time the image is actually taken.

    Could you tell me how to precompile JSP files and deploy? And, I would like to turn off JSP compilation functionality on live servers completely.
    What's the benefit of using database pm? I'm aware of tarpm bug where it deletes data tar files during tarpm optimization and index merge. Does databasepm have the same problem?
    If I use databasepm, can I be free from regular maintainance such as datastore garbage collection, tarpm optimization..etc? I find it very difficult to run such maintainance scripts on a live server where the repository is heavily utilized 24/7.
    I wouldn't mind shutting down the server and run those maintanence offline. Actually, it would be much better if I could run through maintanance offline.
    Also, I heard that there is a bug for share nothing clustering for CQ5.4. I'm not sure if this is jackrabbit bug. If CQ instances are all clustered and I can take one out at a time for offline maintance, it would be superb.
    And, what about backups and restoration? Why aren't there set of maintenance scripts? There are documentations with script snippets on knowledgebase... But why aren't there official maintenance tools?
    And, where is a book? There are documentations that explain what dispatcher is, what repository is, how to develop custom components, how to configure repositories, ... etc. But why isn't there a book that covers architecture for production site, application development practices, maintenance know-hows?
    Does this all mean that Adobe does not care for CQ, and it will not pursue CQ as a viable technology stack for ADEP WEM? (which will be an excellent news by the way).
    Or is it Adobe's scheme to monetize support  (less publicaly available documents/books.. more support tickets)?

    Generally speaking, your bookmarks are private to your computer, and if you set up multiple Firefox profiles on your computer, to the one profile.
    Your bookmarks might be available to you at another location if you used the Sync service. In order to connect a new computer to the Sync service when you aren't near your old computer, you need a recovery key. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/share-bookmarks-tabs-and-more-your-other-computers#w_what-if-im-not-near-my-first-computer
    If you didn't use Sync or can't access your account, someone with access to your old computer could email you your bookmarks. Since there is a range of different ways to do that and the best choice might depend on what you can expect the person you ask to be able to do... could they start up Firefox in your profile and follow menu steps to export a file? Could they drill down into a hidden folder on the system, zip a file, and mail that to you? Etc.

  • PST Files 50GB from Mailbox Export

    Hi There,
    I've archived some mail to PST but the PST file is 75GB.
    I don't want to try and open it in Outlook as I'm concerned that due to the 50GB file limit the file may become corrupt in the process.
    Is there a way to split this file into two halves safely?   or a no-risk way of opening it in Outlook 2013 and moving half the data into another PST?

    There are PST splitters out there and a quick Google search for PST Split Software will get you several options.
    I don't know of any way to open a PST file that has exceeded its limit and historically once you get close to that limit things get a bit shaky and once you are past the limit it has always resulted in corruption.
    I think your best thing to do would be to re-export it by date range to keep it under 50GB OR use a 3rd party utility like our DigiScope that can do PST overflow, i.e. when limit is close we spawn a new PST so you end up with Jon Smith.PST, John Smith1.PST
    etc.
    If you try one of the splitters I would definitely only work with a COPY of the PST and protect the master copy.

  • Archive PST file not showing e-mails from recent to Jun 2013 upon updating from Outlook 2007 to 2010

    Scenario at 8 AM: Working on Windows XP (SP3) with Outlook 2007. Active PST files are 1. server based Inbox folder & 2. an archive PST, manually created, which has multiple folders. The system is handed over to IT Team to upgrade 
    Scenario at 2PM: Windows 7 (64 bit) installed and MS Office 2010 with Outlook 2010 installed. E-mails are re-configured to server and all active pst are re-mapped. Receive fresh e-mails.
    Problems: All e-mail from 8AM today to 26-Jun 2013 disappear including folders and sub folders created during that perion from the manually created archive pst.
    Please help me resolve this issue and get back my e-mails from  26-Jun 2013 to 8 AM,11-Mar-2014.

    Hi,
    Which type of email account are you using? POP3, IMAP or Exchange server?
    Did you check the archive PST file after you finished creating it? Does it contain all emails you want?
    How did you re-map your pst files? We can just click File > Open > Open Outlook Data File... browse to your pst file and open it in your Outlook.
    We can also try to use the Inbox repair tool to scan and repair your pst file to check if it's corrupted. Please also have a look at the link below and check if these recovery tools help:
