Moving album from library onto Ipod

Hi,
I just downloaded an album from a CD into my music library. Now I want to move it onto my Ipod. *I don't want to use SYNCH* because I have music on the Ipod that is not in my library and my understanding is that this will erase the music from the Ipod that is not also in the library. In past versions of Itunes, I always used to just grab the album with a the mouse and pull it over to to the left of the screen (where the Ipod is listed as the music device when it is attached to the computer) and just drop it into the Ipod by releasing the mouse with the cursor over it. But on this version of Itunes, that does not seem to work. Did they change Itunes? Is ther any way to do this on the current version? If not, should I donwload an older version of Itunes? Where can I get that and what is the version called?
Thank you.
Dan

Hi,
Glad someone else has noticed this problem (and it IS a problem).
I think it's been happening ever since they brought in iTunes version 9, as far as I can remember it worked perfectly well before that.
I like to manage my songs manually, and it was just so much easier to drag an album image with the cursor to my ipod. Now it will only let me grab every 6th or 7th album cover, or so, which is useless, as far as I'm concerned!
I've put in a request to Apple to change this back to the way it was, but if nobody is going to complain, apart from me, then I don't suppose it will get done.
Funnily enough, the last time I added a CD, a couple of days ago, it actually worked like it used to. I could actually flick through the artwork in cover flow without it jumping about 6 or 7 covers, and it actually let me grab at each albums artwork, which meant I could add what album I liked without having to highlight each song individually before dragging them to my ipod.
I don't know why it did this, as it hasn't worked properly since the last version of iTunes 8. It's back to it's _+"bad old self"+_ today, I've noticed!
I haven't got a clue what's going on!
Maybe it is supposed to work as it did, but there is now a "glitch" in the software that prevents it from doing so (although they've updated iTunes 9 a few times now, and it hasn't "repaired" it).
There is one way around this, I have just found out today. If you go to the menu, and click on "view", then change the setting from *"cover flow"*, to "list", then look below that you'll see a *"show artwork column"* setting.
If you click on that, the artwork for each album is shown in a column to the left of the list. From what I've seen, you can then still drag each album from the cover art to your ipod, and it takes all the songs in the album, rather than having to highlight them all individually.
It's not really a fix, as I would like, but it does mean less hassle when trying to transfer songs!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Cannot copy songs from library to ipod - says need to run updater but ipod

Cannot copy songs from library to ipod- says the software is too old and updater needs to be rund. However, the updater has been run and says the ipod is up to date. I have already run the restore so the ipod is empty.

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
So, transfer of any songs added (or removal of any songs deleted from iTunes) should take place automatically every time you connect the iPod to iTunes.

  • Please help, I moved my music from library 2my ipod, and it's not there...

I've uploaded my music onto my library, which including converting music to a compatible format, and moved it to my ipod in iTunes. In the list everything is there. However, once I disconnect my ipod and switch it on, only 4-5 songs appear. Yet I've moved about 80 songs onto it.
Can someone help me? I have so much music that I want to put on my 30gig ipod, but if I can't get it to work, I'm considering to return it. (Which is sad cause it was a 21st Bday pressie.)
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thankyou.

If you don't want a bunch of sub-folders all you need to do is create a new Compilation and call it - mp3's or what ever - select all the tunes that you want in that Compilation from the main iTunes window - CMD-I and Compilation =Yes. All those tune will now be in on folder located in the Compilations folder of iTunes. For this to work you also need to select the 'keep' option.

  • Can't transfer movie from itunes library onto ipod

I recently downloaded a movie from itunes onto my laptop. When I tried to manually drag the movie from the library to my ipod i got the following message" The ipod is currently linked to another itunes library. In order to copy the movie to this ipod, you must link this ipod with this itunes library. Doing this will remove 24 tv shows from this ipod. How can I get the movie onto my ipod without erasing the tv shows?

Make sure "Manually manage Music and videos" box is checked under Summary tab.
If the box is already checked and you are still not able to drag it over, highlight the video in movie library and go to iTunes menu ADVANCED and select "Create iPod or iPhone version".  Drag the newly created version over.

  • Advice on moving Albums from old Library to a new Library

    Hi,
I have a huge old iTunes library which has music which has been copied in and also imported over the years using various quality of MP3 settings.  Much of this music I do not have the original CD’s, so I want to keep those particular old MP3 files even if they are not great quality.
There are also many ‘single songs’ that iTunes thinks are albums, and also some tunes which iTunes cannot find the source files.
Safe to say that this huge iTunes library is in a mess, but there is some very good irreplaceable music in it.
I also have approx. 2,000 CD’s which I wish to re-import using AIFF format.
My plan is to create a new iTunes library, and to somehow move all the music for which I don’t have CD’s for, into this new iTunes library.
And then after that, to manually import all the CD’s using AIFF format into the new library.
And then to delete the old library, and continue then with a nice clean library.
Can anybody recommend a good work flow to select a huge number of albums from the old library, and move them to the new one?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

I would never have thought of using playlists.
Is that practical adding more than a thousand albums to a playlist?
And then to drag the playlist to "new media folder's Automatically Add to iTunes folder using your current library".
Presumably copying many thousands of files at once?
And ttg27... thanks for the pointers to the tt2's scripts.... sounds very useful.
Could either of you comment on a new idea I have had.....
Keep the old iTunes open and work down through the list of albums in iTunes one at a time.
Any album that I want to move (as I don't have the corresponding CD), i move that folder using explorer to the new disk drive.  [by MOVING rather than copying, then those tunes in iTunes will appear as 'missing' so i know these have been moved already.
Any single tracks (identified as an album with 1 track) that I don't want to keep, I just delete it within iTunes (or Explorer) as I work down through the list.
So gradually the old iTunes library becomes smaller and smaller, as the content files are either moved or deleted.
Would that work and would it be safer that moving files in batches using Playlists?
By the way, is there some easy way that I can count the number of albums that I have in my iTunes library so that at least I will have an idea of how much work is ahead of me ? ;-)
    Thanks for your suggestions!,
    Really appreciated.

  • How to get Artwork from iTunes onto iPod

    Hi everybody.
I have uploaded quite a few Artworks in my iTunes and now have it set at: "Automatically download missing album artwork"
    This works wonders, but...
How can I get it on my iPod as well? It doesn't seem to sinq by itself and when connecting the iPod I can't do the same in the iPod Library?
I have set my iPod on manual as I have way more songs on my iPod then on my comp.
So, how can I get the arwork from my iTunes Library onto my iPod library?
    Many thanx
(have Windows and an 30G Video iPod)

If the artwork is assigned to the songs in your iTunes, then it's added to the iPod when you transfer those songs.
If you connect the iPod then click on the 'music' tab, you will see the option to:
"display album artwork on your iPod". Make sure that is enabled.

  • I'd like help troubleshooting moving albums from iPhoto to iPhone

Help! I'm having trouble moving iPhoto (OS 10.7.4) albums/photos back to iPhone 4S (OS 5.1.1). I previously uploaded all photos from iphone to iphoto and parsed into albums. I deleted all photos from iphone. I followed apple instructions to move selected albums from iphoto to iphone, and iTunes shows synched, but no albums or images on displaying on my iPhone.
    Thanks in advance for assistance!

It is not an iPhoto library-- it's just seperate pictures on a USB stick. I never said you can run a library on a USB stick.
Free up space on my HD
Move current photos to my "Mac My Book" 1TB
Insure moving forward all new photos are stored and accessed to and from the My Book
This is clearly a request to move the iPhoto library to an external hard drive and run it there
The instructions for doing that are
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
It is NOT possible to do that on a USB Stick!

  • Importing music from CDs onto iPod

    Hi there,
I have an iPod Nano 1GB. I am having a problem because I only have 28 songs on it, but it says it is almost full! The songs I purchased from iTunes are very small (3-4 MB), but the songs I tried to transfer from my CDs are much larger (25+ MB). I imported the songs using iTunes and then moved them from the library into the selected playlist that I want to sync from. I don't understand why they aren't compressed. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks for your help!!

Do you have the imported songs on your computer? You can choose to copy files to Itunes Music Folder.(You can find the folder in the preferences/advanced/general tab) If you did, then you can check the file sizes. If the size is too large, I would delete them, and I would re-import using the MP3 encoder and 128Kps(Good Quality). This setting will give you about 5MB per song. Go to edit/preferences/advanced/importing/ to change the setting.
To diagnose your current problem, I would remove the songs with the large file size from your library (you can probably just remove the checkmark in the ipod library) and update the ipod. Then, disconnect the Ipod, and check the space available. If you agree with it, then the import setting is the problem. You will need to right click and clear the files from your Ipod library as well as deleting the copy from your computer, then re-import. If the large files are not the problem, then your ipod probably isn't properly formatted. I would then run the updater to fix it and properly format it.

  • Can't transfer purchased music from library to IPod mini

I have a two year old IPod mini that I haven't used in awhile. We recently had a computer crash and reinstalled the operating system with Windows XP Pro. I no longer have the original CD that came with my IPod when it was purchased. I have been able to download music to my library, however, when I plug my IPod into the computer, I get the message that my IPod sync is complete, and it is ok to disconnect. The problem is that I can't get the music from the library onto my IPod. What am I doing wrong?

I checked to see what form of software I had for my IPod, it turns out I have the updated version of the IPod software as well as the newest version of I Tunes. I opened my library and plugged my IPod in and hit the sync button, after 5 seconds or so it told me sync was complete, ok to disconnect IPod. I still have no music on the IPod and no idea what the problem could be.
