Moving albums from G5 to my laptop

I want to move albums to my laptop so that I can then make slide shows without haveing to make the poor quality movies.
I've got the two computers linked. I just can't figure out how to access my iPhotoalbams on my G5
How can I move albums to my laptop from my G5?
Thanks,
Dennis McGill

Hi Dennis,
If the computers are networked and you have iPhoto open on both computers and iPhoto sharing turned on in the iPhoto Preferences for each computer, then it is easy to do.
The sharing library will show up in the source column of iPhoto. click on the library and it will open. You will see the albums listed underneath the library.
Highlight the album and drag it to your library (first in the list at the top of the source column) The photos will be imported into the laptop library.
SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

-You can also open iPhoto on the G5, highlight the album and go to share>export. Export it to the desktop or the desktop of the laptop if the laptop is mounted on the G5) and then copy it to the desktop of the laptop and then import them into the iPhoto Library on the laptop.

  • I'd like help troubleshooting moving albums from iPhoto to iPhone

Help! I'm having trouble moving iPhoto (OS 10.7.4) albums/photos back to iPhone 4S (OS 5.1.1). I previously uploaded all photos from iphone to iphoto and parsed into albums. I deleted all photos from iphone. I followed apple instructions to move selected albums from iphoto to iphone, and iTunes shows synched, but no albums or images on displaying on my iPhone.
    Thanks in advance for assistance!

It is not an iPhoto library-- it's just seperate pictures on a USB stick. I never said you can run a library on a USB stick.
Free up space on my HD
Move current photos to my "Mac My Book" 1TB
Insure moving forward all new photos are stored and accessed to and from the My Book
This is clearly a request to move the iPhoto library to an external hard drive and run it there
The instructions for doing that are
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
It is NOT possible to do that on a USB Stick!

  • Advice on moving Albums from old Library to a new Library

    Hi,
I have a huge old iTunes library which has music which has been copied in and also imported over the years using various quality of MP3 settings.  Much of this music I do not have the original CD’s, so I want to keep those particular old MP3 files even if they are not great quality.
There are also many ‘single songs’ that iTunes thinks are albums, and also some tunes which iTunes cannot find the source files.
Safe to say that this huge iTunes library is in a mess, but there is some very good irreplaceable music in it.
I also have approx. 2,000 CD’s which I wish to re-import using AIFF format.
My plan is to create a new iTunes library, and to somehow move all the music for which I don’t have CD’s for, into this new iTunes library.
And then after that, to manually import all the CD’s using AIFF format into the new library.
And then to delete the old library, and continue then with a nice clean library.
Can anybody recommend a good work flow to select a huge number of albums from the old library, and move them to the new one?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

I would never have thought of using playlists.
Is that practical adding more than a thousand albums to a playlist?
And then to drag the playlist to "new media folder's Automatically Add to iTunes folder using your current library".
Presumably copying many thousands of files at once?
And ttg27... thanks for the pointers to the tt2's scripts.... sounds very useful.
Could either of you comment on a new idea I have had.....
Keep the old iTunes open and work down through the list of albums in iTunes one at a time.
Any album that I want to move (as I don't have the corresponding CD), i move that folder using explorer to the new disk drive.  [by MOVING rather than copying, then those tunes in iTunes will appear as 'missing' so i know these have been moved already.
Any single tracks (identified as an album with 1 track) that I don't want to keep, I just delete it within iTunes (or Explorer) as I work down through the list.
So gradually the old iTunes library becomes smaller and smaller, as the content files are either moved or deleted.
Would that work and would it be safer that moving files in batches using Playlists?
By the way, is there some easy way that I can count the number of albums that I have in my iTunes library so that at least I will have an idea of how much work is ahead of me ? ;-)
    Thanks for your suggestions!,
    Really appreciated.

  • Moving album from library onto Ipod

    Hi,
I just downloaded an album from a CD into my music library. Now I want to move it onto my Ipod. *I don't want to use SYNCH* because I have music on the Ipod that is not in my library and my understanding is that this will erase the music from the Ipod that is not also in the library. In past versions of Itunes, I always used to just grab the album with a the mouse and pull it over to to the left of the screen (where the Ipod is listed as the music device when it is attached to the computer) and just drop it into the Ipod by releasing the mouse with the cursor over it. But on this version of Itunes, that does not seem to work. Did they change Itunes? Is ther any way to do this on the current version? If not, should I donwload an older version of Itunes? Where can I get that and what is the version called?
    Thank you.
    Dan

    Hi,
Glad someone else has noticed this problem (and it IS a problem).
I think it's been happening ever since they brought in iTunes version 9, as far as I can remember it worked perfectly well before that.
I like to manage my songs manually, and it was just so much easier to drag an album image with the cursor to my ipod. Now it will only let me grab every 6th or 7th album cover, or so, which is useless, as far as I'm concerned!
I've put in a request to Apple to change this back to the way it was, but if nobody is going to complain, apart from me, then I don't suppose it will get done.
Funnily enough, the last time I added a CD, a couple of days ago, it actually worked like it used to. I could actually flick through the artwork in cover flow without it jumping about 6 or 7 covers, and it actually let me grab at each albums artwork, which meant I could add what album I liked without having to highlight each song individually before dragging them to my ipod.
I don't know why it did this, as it hasn't worked properly since the last version of iTunes 8. It's back to it's _+"bad old self"+_ today, I've noticed!
    I haven't got a clue what's going on!
Maybe it is supposed to work as it did, but there is now a "glitch" in the software that prevents it from doing so (although they've updated iTunes 9 a few times now, and it hasn't "repaired" it).
There is one way around this, I have just found out today. If you go to the menu, and click on "view", then change the setting from *"cover flow"*, to "list", then look below that you'll see a *"show artwork column"* setting.
If you click on that, the artwork for each album is shown in a column to the left of the list. From what I've seen, you can then still drag each album from the cover art to your ipod, and it takes all the songs in the album, rather than having to highlight them all individually.
It's not really a fix, as I would like, but it does mean less hassle when trying to transfer songs!

  • Moving albums from 06 to 08

I just bought a new iMac, and have moved my photos from the old computer which had iPhoto 06 to the new computer with iPhoto 08. How do I move the albums and slideshows to the new computer? Thanks

    How did you move them?
The proper way is to quit iPhoto '08 on your new (congratulations) iMac, move the iPhoto library out of the Pictures folder to the desktop and then copy your iPhoto 6 library into the pictures folder on your new iMac. Restart iPhoto '08 and it will ask for permission to upgrade your library - let it and you will have a new iPhoto '08 library that matches the iPhoto 6 one including albums, folders, etc.
As soon as you are happy with the results you can delete the iPhoto library from your desktop
I also suggest that you download Old Toad's back up automator script and use it often

  • Transferring photo albums from iPhone to new laptop help?

My old computer crashed all my data is not recoverable. I have some phone albums on iPhone 5 that I want to download to a new computer, but I can't get them to show up in iTunes or iPhoto when I sync my phone. The only images that download are the ones from the camera roll. Any suggestions on how I could save these images?
    Thank you.
    -F

Photos outside the camera roll can only be transferred to the computer if you use 3rd party software, like Touchcopy for example, just to name one of the many a search will bring up.

  • Moving albums from PSE 9 on PC to iPhoto '11 on Mac

    Hi,
I'd like to move all my photos and my albums that I've setup in PSE 9 on my PC to iPhoto '11 on my iMac.  I have been able to move just the photo files and import them into iPhoto, however, I lose all the albums if I just to an import.
I tried following the process outlined at the bottom of this post (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080702225914AAmKVhU), but it didn't work the way I thought as it transferred only the photos and it didn't maintain the albums.
Has anyone figured out a way to move all photos along with their respective PSE 9 albums to iPhoto '11?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Well, no, this isn't going to work (at least it doesn't for 99% of the people who think it's what they'll do). For one thing, it's not how to use iphoto: you run a serious risk of inadvertently writing something to the iphoto library from outside iphoto and that will corrupt the library. Eventually you are going to have to choose between organizer and iphoto as your main photo management tool. Your current procedure will drive you crazy eventually.
If you want to organize photos in iphoto and edit them in PSE, there are two ways to do it:
    1. Set PSE as your external organizer, use iphoto to browse your photos and send them from iphoto to the PSE editor. Save, not save as, without changing the name or format and iphoto will remember one version plus original (what you mean by 'stacks' is not stacks but version sets, I realize after seeing your post in the apple forum).
    2. Export photos from iphoto to the desktop, edit in PSE and then save the new photo under a new name and import it as a new image to iphoto.
But your current procedure is just going to cause untold confusion down the road, even if you don't manage to damage your iphoto library.
If you find the mac organizer satisfactory (it's very much a 1.0 effort at this point) then use that instead of iphoto, but using both almost always leads to confusion later on.

  • Moving iTunes imported music albums from MBP to iPad

I have a MBP in my name/iTunes account, my wife has just been given an iPad 3, and she has her own iTunes account on it.
Is there anyway (without the sharing option) of moving albums from my MBP to her iPad so that they physically sit in her iPad, not sharing.
I dont mean purchased music from iTunes etc, but albums I have copied / imported from our own CD's etc.
    Thanks for any help

If I open itunes on my MBP and then connect the iPad to my MBP and then click on devices where it says my wifes iPad, the only optios I get are to "set up as new iPad"  or  "Recover from my wifes iPhone"
I cant see sync any wherne.

  • When syncing with itunes my photo albums from laptop were transferred to iphone. how do i remove from phone?

When I synced with itunes to backup my iphone, somehow the photo albums from my laptop were transferred onto my iphone. there are no photos in the albums, just empty folders. how can i remove these folders from my iphone? thank you.

The same way you put them there.  The sync process.
Deselect them in itunes and sync:

  • Using iPad 2 photos and have not found key to organizing or moving photos  from one album to another existing album

With ipad2 I have been almost successful in moving photos from the stream or roll to separate albums. It takes the commands but does not allow last step. What am I missing?

If you are wanting to copy photos from your computer to the iPad then you need to select all the folders that you want to copy together in one go - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are removed by not including them in the next photo sync, so on each photo sync you need to select all the photos that you want to remain on the iPad. So you will only do one photo sync to copy them.
So when you connect the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes, on the right-hand side on the Photos tab you need to select the parent folder under each those 100 folders are directly under - each of those 100 folders will then get their own album on the iPad. The folder to album relationship only works to 1 level i.e. if those folders have sub-folders in them then their photos will go into the parent's album on the iPad

I tried moving an album from iPhoto to Pictures, but the entire iPhoto Library moved.
I now cannot open iPhoto.  How can I get it back?

A folder named Library popped up in Pictures.  I didn't want the entire Library, just the one album.
When I open the Library Folder in Pictures, I get sub folders dated with years.
When I open the subfolders, I just keep getting more folders.
This looks like you were viewing your iPhoto Library; the contents of the Masters folder. Is your original iPhoto library still there?
Where do you keep your iPhoto library? In the default location in your "Pictures" folder?

  • Moving Masters from Album to Album does not actually change reference.

Im not sure if this problem has been addressed, or if I'm the only one experiencing it. I have moved masters from one project (ex. Pictures Project) to another project (Trips Project). The moved masters, in the metadata view, still show its master location in the Pictures project. I have seperated these photos into their own albums for each city visited, so when I click on the album, the images show up. But if I click on the Trips project, it does not think there are any images in the project and nothing shows up. Is anyone else having this problem?

    Hi Kevin,
I wish aperture would realize that the images have been relocated and add them into the project it is now associated with.
This is actually a feature because Albums can contain images from more than one Project. This is really a very useful way to group images, and I wouldn't want to see it changed. There's a great article about the Library structure here:
