Moving all iTunes' music to another Mac OS X account on the same system?

Hello.
I accidently have all the songs under the wrong account in Mac OS X 10.5.5 because I copied all songs from an old iPod Nano to a new MacBook Pro's HDD and a clean iTunes with Senuti program.
How can I move them to the other account on the HDD? Even as an administrator, I cannot access the account I want to move to in Finder. I see the "access denied" folders with their red sold circle with thick white horizontal lines and borders. Accessing Music folder showed "The folder 'Music' could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges."
Or do I have to log in with the correct account and reuse Senuti program to move all the songs again.
Thank you in advance.

Well, it was working until I need to add new songs from CDs. iTunes says I can't write to the shared iTunes music folder/directory when adding new songs from audio CDs. Shouldn't administrator let him have no problems? I even added his account to have read and write access to /Users/Shared/iTunes Music/. I copied the music folder to his local account and had no problems.
I noticed the shared contents had something like:
iTunes Music:
total 0
drwxrwxrwx+ 163 Ant staff 5542 Nov 3 07:45 .
drwxrwxrwt 7 root wheel 238 Nov 30 17:49 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 Ant staff 102 Oct 12 07:36 Foo Bar 1
drwxrwxrwx 3 Ant staff 102 Oct 12 07:35 Foo Bar 2
Is it because of Ant and Staff names instead of root and wheel? I
didn't see anything about this in Finder's Get Info. I also didn't see
a way to do recursive too like in Windows. What am I missing?
Thank you in advance.

When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • TS1398 Despite all my software are up to date, How can I connect to iTune? store. I can access itune store on my Mac( Lion ) but cant do the same form my iPhone that is synced with my Mac. Please help as I cant update my useful apps.

Whenever I try to update my apps from my 4S iPhone it says " can not connect to iTune store.". I can do the same from my Mac PC with same password.

Try logging out of your account on the iPhone by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if it then works.

  • ITunes sharing accross Mac OS user accounts on the same computer?

I have a new late 2013 27" iMac with individual user accounts set up for each member of the family.  What do I need to do to enable sharing of a common iTunes library accross all the accounts on this machine?  I'd like for everyone to be able to add, delete, purchase, organize, create playlists, etc. in a single common iTunes library.  Thanks in advance for any help with this question.

Again note, with this method you can only have one person using iTunes at any one time.

  • Multiple accounts with the same iTunes???

I'm looking at getting my wife the iPod Nano. I have the iPod 20GB Color Display. If she has the iPod Nano does iTunes allow you to have two separate accounts within the same iTunes so you we have our own sets of music? Or would we have to have two separate iTune accounts loaded on two different computers?
I'm looking at transferring all of my music to an external harddrive so maybe my wife can have hers all on the laptop. Not sure what's the best thing to do. Anyone had experience with this?
    Thanks.

However, I cannot get iTunes to sync my Outlook Calendar or Contacts with my iPod.  When I try it crashes Outlook.  iTunes continues to try to sync, but when it finishes my Calendar and Contents are empty (ERASED!).  I have de-installed and re-installed iTunes (according to Apple's instructions), repaired Office 2013 and Outlook, scanned for viruses (etc), cleaned out temp folders, defragmented, etc., etc., etc. Has anyone seen this before, and does anyone know houw to fix it?  (HELP!)

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac? Thanks a lot. Carlo Molinari (Rome - Italy)

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac?
The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD."

  • I moved my Itunes music and now it won't automatically locate them?

I moved all my music to a different folder, and I click one song in my library to locate it, and then I locate it, and I click locate all files and it won't add them, and I have over 1k songs so I don't want to locate them all manually one by one. What do I do? Is there a fix or program for Windows?
I have a backed up Library.xml file can I edit that somehow?
    Thanks!

It all depends a bit on what you want to do.
    Option 1
The "offical" method (i.e. there is a support article describing it) for moving your media around is to allocate a new media folder and then consolidate your content to that new location. The downside with it is that you then have to manually clean up what gets left behind. The other problem with that method is that it splits the library and the media folder up. Once this has happened it is less easy to do the following trick.
    Option 2
The "unofficial" but still widely documented alternative is to move the entire iTunes folder to a new location. This assumes the media folder was inside the main iTunes folder to start with. If you move a library in this layout to a new location then you can hold down shift when iTunes is starting and choose to open the libary in the new location. (Hold shift, click icon for iTunes, carry on holding shift for some time until a prompt appears). iTunes should open the library from its new location and automatically update the preference for the iTunes Media folder to match. Everything just works.
Actually, if your library was created by iTunes 8 or earlier and you haven't updated to iTunes Media Organisation then you might need to fix up a few things like iPod Games and Mobile Apps, or better yet, upgrade to iTunes Media Organisation before  you go moving the iTunes folder with File > Library > Organise Library > Reorganise files in the folder <Media Folder>. If the last option is greyed out you've already done it.
    Option 3
Finally, if you just want to consolidate files to a new folder without creating copies then my script ConsoldateByMoving will move files to their default location (i.e. where iTunes would copy it to) within the current media folder. It is also possible to modify the script to use a different root folder for all the files it is moving, or indeed adapt it (carefully & take a backup first) for your own personal naming scheme.
    Option 4
There are also all sorts of move-my-iTunes-library-guides that talk about editing the XML file to update files with the new location that you've just given them by hand and then "damaging" the ITL file in a way that makes iTunes rebuild the ITL from the XML data. Ignore all such nonsense, there are easier ways to destroy your library.
I'd recommend you go for option 2. I actually organise my media with a personalised version of the script, but there is no real benefit other than a warm glow that everything is organised my way because I want it that way.

  • Opening another account and wants all itunes and photos to go on other account but wont work.

im trying to open another sign in account and its just started it with no information in it like no songs in itunes or photos. how can i make it so 2 accounts are the same but in 2 different names?

Itunes floder canot be shared whit multiple users and that means that 2 user accounts means 2 itunes maps duplicates if you have 1gb of musick it wil than be 2 gb if you wand it on the two acounts.
there are many ways on doing this if you wand it thou i would not advise this unless you have a small amount of music.
the photo's wil be ease and the only thing you will need to do is:
go to Pictures in you're home folder and move  "iPhoto Library" ore the photo's and move it to
    /Macintosh HD/users/Shared
if you cant tis map and haven't renamed the hard drive go to finder cick on go in the menu an then on
"Go to map..." and copy: /Macintosh HD/users/Shared
p.s. if you use iphoto the first time after moving you will need to open it by duble ckikking the "iPhoto Library" you moved in the shared map
