Moving an iMovie project file for editing on a different iMac

Does anyone know if an iMovie project file started on one iMac can be saved to a usb drive or dvd/cd to be opened on another iMac computer to continue editing? What I have done before is go to: movies>iMovie projects>selected file and save the selected file to a usb drive. I also save the pictures and voice overs/music files that I used with the iMovie project on the same usb drive. However, when I open the iMovie project file on another iMac all of the work that I had previously done is not there. I end up starting all over. I would like to start my project at home and do any finishing touches on the second iMac in order to decrease the time I have to spend at the second location. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

When you move files to your second iMac, they need to be in the EXACT location. If you have your videos and photos in a folder on your desktop named "Movie Stuff," and you just throw them into a folder in documents called "Stuff" on your second iMac, iMovie will not recognize the files. You need to create the same path as the first iMac. In this case, you would have to make a folder called "Movie Stuff" on your second iMac's desktop, and move the files there.
Hope this helped!

  • Moving an iMovie project

I have a 1hr movie created using iMovieHD 6.0.3 on a G4 iMac that has no superdrive, and thus, no iDVD.
I would like to author using iDVD on a separate workstation (quad core MacPro, running iDVD 6.0.3).
Moving the iMovie project file is not an option (15GB size). Is there any way to 'export/share to iDVD' on a separate computer?

Can the two computers be connected with a firewire cable? Of course they would need to be in the same place to do this.
I've done what you are trying to do (after transferring the file over an ethernet network). A problem was that there were associated files that were not transferred. These included music on iTunes that was used as background music. These had to then be separately imported into itunes on the second computer. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to prevent this problem?

Both the AVI and the MOV file extensions refer to the file container and not the compressed data the file contains. Both are generic file containers in that each may contain any valid combination of audio and/or video data that is compatible with the codec component configuration of the system on which the file was created. On the other hand, whether a file is playback compatible, conversion compatible, and/or edit compatible depends on the data actually contained in the file container. So, you are basically dealing with two separate issues here—the container and what is inside it.
Basically, if you want to make your files ediit compatible with iMovie, you must change your file container to one that is acceptable to iMovie and convert the data to edit compatible audio and/or video compression formats as may be necessary. The best approach is to determine what codecs were actually used to create the original AVI files and add them to your system if possible. In most cases a codec package like Perian can be added to your system's codec component configuration to may the AVI file playable. Once they are playable, in the QT 7 app then they can be chnged or converted to file types and compression formats that can be edited in iMovie. (While Perian handles most codecs commonly used to create AVI files, it does not handle all possibilities and, while the Perian codec package still works under cureent Mac OS versions, its development group has decided to drop further development/support of the package.)
Background: AVI is a file container originally developed by Microsoft back in 1992 but for which official support was discontinued about 11 years. Despite its limitations, Windows users still tend to use this file based on its open source ease of use and generic nature, thus, making its use so popular that most users are unwilling to switch to more modern but less generic file types. Since some AVI legacy compression formats have never been transcoded for the Mac or use beyond OS 9 or OS X PPC platforms, it is often important to know what specific compression formats are contained in the AVI file to know which codecs to add to your system and which not to add in order to avoid possible codec conflicts.
You can use many different converters to convert AVI files to iMovie edit compatible files. Most third-party apps contain their own buit-in codecs which do not relay on the Mac codec component configuration. Free ones, like HandBrake, usually have limited conversion capabilities while those that have more varied outputs are usually commercial in nature and will cost you additional cash. QT 7 Pro or the free MPEG Streamclip app allow you to access you own system's component configuration and use any available codec component like DV, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, Photo JPEG, etc.—all of which are iMovie compatible for editing purposes—but only after making the AVI file QT 7 player compatible.
In order to determine what compression formats wewre used in your AVI files you can
    1) Try checking the Finder "Info" window,
    2) Use the "Inspector", "Media Info", or "Properties" window of any player app that will open the file, or
    3) Use a general media utility app like "MediaInfo" to read the file characteristics.

  • IMovie Project File Problem - Won't Play After HD Format

Hi everyone, I have a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.4.11) running iMovie 08 (7.1.4). A few months ago I created a slideshow in iMovie and it was saved in a folder on my laptop as an iMovie Project file (159MB). Whenever I wanted to show someone the slideshow, I just double-clicked the iMovie Project file and it opened automatically in iMovie and the slideshow played without any problems.
Earlier this week I had to format the HD of my MBP (I wanted to get rid of the Windows partition I had). Before I did this, I obviously backed-up all my files onto a portable HD and reinstalled them on my MBP. Today, when I attempted to open the iMovie Project file (again, by double-clicking on it in Finder) I ran into a problem: iMovie 08 opens, but the file will not play. It doesn't even appear anywhere in iMovie. Before, it would appear in iMovie and show all the individual frames, audio track, etc.
(Unsurprisingly) I also cannot open this iMovie Project file in any other program, such as Quicktime, etc...
Can anyone tell me how I can open this file in iMovie again and/or import it back into iMovie and watch/edit it there? It is quite important that I can open it again.
    Thank you very much, Scott

AM1958, you are a lifesaver!! Thank you very much -- moving the .rcproject file to user>/Movies/iMovie Projects/ fixed my problem and I can now play my slideshow movie. I really appreciate the assistance. One more (small) thing: it seems to me that the quality of the movie has been somewhat compromised, in that I recall the images looking sharper and clearer before. This could be my mind playing tricks on me, but I am just wondering if this is possible... Or am I imagining this?

    Added Paths:

    Removed Paths:
        osmf/trunk/framework/OSMFAIRTest/MediaFrameworkAirTest-app.xml

While the files are XML, I'm not sure they are fully standard XML. Even if they are, they have all kinds of data in them which requires special knowledge. For instance, libraries have icons (which are binary) and versions. Classes have a wire and control. Projects have arrays of elements which are encoded in a certain way, etc. In short, don't merge them. Also, note that current versions of TSVN auto-merge conflicts by default when you update and you need to jump through some hoops to disable that.

Side note -- if I want to use the LabVIEW Compare tool, I rename the two "revision" files by adding .vi to the name.  Now they are legitimate VIs, and have unique names so LabVIEW can safely open all three.  Once I decide which I need to keep (say it is My Code.vi.2325.vi), I just delete the unnecessary extension.  In my case, Windows is set to not show extensions that it "knows", so what I delete is the ".vi.2325", and the not-shown ".vi" is still present.
You should be able to configure TSVN to call the LVMerge program on LV files, which should allow you to simply click the original VI and select the conflict editing option in TSVN. No need to do this manually.

  • Find imovie project file in Finder

I'm trying to find an imovie project file in finder.  I can see the project when I'm in iMovie, but when I go into user - movies - imovie projects, it doesn't appear.  I've searched for file type imovieproject, and searched my external hard drive.  In all these places, other project files are there, older ones, but not my current one.  Any ideas?  I have iMovie 10 mac OS Mavericks.

iMovie 10 stores everything in a package which in the Finder looks like a file with extension .imovielibrary.  If you right-click "Show package contents" you can see what's inside.  The "iMovie Projects" folder you are looking at is from iMovie 9 so it won't contain any projects that you have created since you updated to iMovie 10.

  • Are "working copies", "project files" and "editing files" the same thing?

    Hello.
I have just joined the Adobe Forums as a newbie starting right at the bottom. I am still unfamiliar with the terms "working copies", "project files" and "editing files".
I wonder if someone will help me to know the difference between these terms.
I have just started the Dreamweaver tutorial, "Creating your first website, Part 1: Set up your site and project files" (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/first_website_pt1.htm).
The tutorial read, "You've now defined a local site folder for the Check Magazine site. This is where you keep the working copies of web pages on your local computer.".
Are "working copies", "project files" and "editing files" the same thing?

    Murray *ACP* wrote:
Why would the raid level make any difference at all?  My data files are all stored on a RAID 4 system and seems to do pretty well.
    Murray *ACP*,
If I may elaborate on this,
being completely new to Dreamweaver, my reason for having wondered whether it would be a good idea or a bad idea to have these files on disks that are in RAID 0, was because the term project files in the Dreamweaver Tutorial had me thinking of Premiere Pro project files and the performance increase working with such project files in a RAID 0 setup, which (provided there is backup) is especially beneficial if you have large or complex projects, long time-lines and a tight deadline,
especially considering that as fill rates of disks go up, and as the number of disk activities on a disk go up, performance goes down, sometimes by 50%, and that the more tracks you have in your project, the more strain is put on your disk, and the more applications you have open, the more your pagefile is used, especially on systems with limited memory.
Therefore, as RAID 0 offers the best performance increase over a single disk,  I immediately thought of the concept of project files related to Premiere Pro when I came across the term project files in the Dreamweaver Tutorial, being unfamiliar with the definition of project files in Dreamweaver world, hence my need to define project files related to Dreamweaver with reference to disk setup and file management.
However, if I understand correctly, my conclusion is that RAID 0 is not necessary for Dreamweaver project files, since the local site is not disk intensive, unless you have a huge website to build ?
Also, if I understand correctly, in website design, you want to minimize local files and use your hosting company to store and retrieve info from ?

  • Open file for edit

    hi
lets say i am doing a program similiar to autocad
and i need to open the file for edit in my java program
the file format is my own custom format, not autocad format
my question is that does it more sense to create a clone of the copy to edit
or edit the opened file directly...

Create a clone. If something goes wrong, the user can always revert to the original file.
(On the other hand, this may also depend on what you are really doing to "edit the file". I suspect that very fiew user applications actually make changes directly into a source file.)

  • Convert mts files for editing in Final Cut?

Is there a way to convert mts files for editing in Final Cut Express or Pro?

Well, first, if you are talking about AVCHD video, FCE & FCP can directly import it from your camcorder.  They will also import AVCHD from an SD card or even your hard drive provided you have saved the entire AVCHD folder structure, not just the .mts files by themselves.
If you only have the .mts files (without the surrounding AVCHD folder strucutre) then you should be able to use MPEG Streamclip to convert them to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec for editiing in FCE.  MPEG Streamclip is free and works great.
If that doesn't work, then look into ClipWrap, which has a $49.99 price tag.
This will work the same for converting .mts files to ProRes assuming you already have FCP installed, which gives you the ProRes codec.
FCE & FCP do not, however, directly import video from DSLRs because the camera manufacturers have each done some proprietary stuff in their implementation of video in their DSLRs.  However, if you have a Canon DSLR & FCP (that is, FCP 7) there is a Canon EOS video plugin that will enable you import the video directly from the DSLR into FCP7.  Not sure it's supported on Lion (10.7.x) just yet, but if you have a Canon DSLR it's worth a look.

  • I'm having problems exporting files for editing from LR 4.3 into photoshop elements 9.

This problem only occurs with files that I have been imported from cd's/dvd's into the libraryand I get the msg "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file for editing. It will not be opened."
Files that are stored on my hard drive have NO PROBLEM in being edited. .
I am new to Lightroom and currently using it on the 30 day trial I have been using PSE for a long time and have over 90,000 images in Organizer and all of my images are on cd's/dvd's, very few are stored on the hard drive.
Thanks in advance for any feedback and suggestions.
    Ken

Do you mean they are still on the CD/DVD and you want to export them directly from CD/DVD?
That's not possible since the CD/DVD is not writeable. You have to move the photos to your hard drive first.

Fix Eclipse project files for BlazeDS/trunk. There were a number of problems. The classpath for the Java projects still included references to the backport jars which we don't have in the tree any more because we no longer support JDK 1.4. The actionsript projects hadn't been updated to reference the new location of things in the Flex 4 SDK so paths to things like playerglobal.swc, resource bundles and Assets.swf were wrong. All projects are building for me now but please let me know if you have any problems.
    Modified Paths:

  • Download a Project file for Visual Studio regarding the Kinect for Windows v2? Getting Started with Kinect Development in Visual Studio

I am currently trying to make an application for Kinect for Windows v2 but I am entirely new to Visual Studio and Kinect development and could use some help getting started. I honestly have no idea where or how to start and I figured the easiest thing would
be to obtain a simple project file and examine how it works myself, but I have been unable to find one. The easiest thing would be if I could obtain a project file for Visual Studio that is an application which overlays the Skeletal model over people in real
time, though similar project files would also be appreciated. The app I am making largely involves things similar to overlaying the skeletal model on bodies so this would get me off to a great start and show me how the code is laid out within visual studio
simultaneously. (I would prefer the code to be in C# if that is possible but other languages also work).
I have checked out some of the guides for kinect development but they all assume you know how visual studio works so I cannot get very far in them. Thus if you know of a good guide to get me started with visual stuido AND the Kinect then I would be glad
    to here that as well.
Alternatively, and I know this is not the right place for this, I have Matlab, which I know works for the Kinect v1 but can't find support for it regarding the v2, so if you could point me in the right direction on how to get it to work with the Kinect v2
THAT would also work incredibly well as I am much more familiar with Matlab.
I already have Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 installed, as well as the Kinect SDKv2.0, the physical Kinect for Windows v2, and my laptop meets all of the requirements for development so those are not issues.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

Since this forum is discuss: Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor. About your issue, I think that it is
more related to the Kinect for Windows v2, so I suggest you can post this issue directly to Kinect for Windows v2 SDK forum:https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=kinectv2sdk
,maybe you will get better support.
