Moving an iMovie project from one account to another

I started an iMovie project on my wife's login account but I want to move it to my own login account, including all of the clips and edits associated with the project.  Can I do that?

When the projects and events are in your wife's account, all those files have permissions assigned that allow her to edit them and no one else. It can be very tricky to alter these permissions and I do not recommend it.
However, there is a much simpler way. You can copy or move the projects and events to an external drive. From there, you can edit them directly, or you can copy or move them to your user account.
The reason this works is that external drives do not have permissions set like user accounts do.
To move or copy to an external drive, follow the instructions here.

  • What is the easiest way to transfer a large imovie project from one computer to another in a different location.

What is the easiest way to transfer an faairly large HD imovie project from one computer to another in a different location. Can you export to drop box? Will the other computer need the exact imovie version?

    OK it depends.
If you have a finished movie, you can SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE and create your final movie. Then, depending on the size of the finished movie, you can transfer via dropbox or similar service. Ninety minutes is a very long movie for iMovie, but it may work for you. I would suggest 720P to keep the size down.
If you need to transfer the entire iMovie Project so it can be edited in iMovie at the other end, then you need to transfer the project and event assets to an external hard drive and get the hard drive to the other location.
Directions are here. Follow the directions for 1) Moving or copying Project to external drive. Then 2) Consolidate Media.

  • I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?

I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?  Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

This should give you some good insight, I'd probably store them on an External HD on the old machine and then just drag and drop to the new machine.

  • How to move iMovie project from one computer to another

I have been working on an iMovie 09 project on my desktop at home.
Now I want to work on the same project on my computer at work.
How can I move the project from one computer to another?   What I've already tried was to make a duplicate copy of the project and then use a thumb drive to move that to another computer.   It didn't work.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello James Snedeker,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to move a file to another disk. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
iMovie: How to Save Projects to Another Hard Disk
To copy an iMovie project to another disk:
    1. Quit iMovie if it is open.
    2. Locate the project folder in the Finder.
    3. Drag the project folder to the other disk.
Note: You must move the complete project folder, intact, to the other disk in order to successfully copy the project. The project folder has the same name as the project listed in the iMovie window. This folder includes the iMovie project file, as well as a Media folder, which contains all of the clips associated with this project. If you don't copy all of these items, the project may no longer be readable in iMovie.
Once you have copied the project, try opening it in iMovie to ensure that it copied to the other disk successfully.

  • Moving Events and Projects from one location to another on the same hard drive.

    Hello.
I've searched in the FCP X User Manual, on this forum and in Google, but have found no explanation of how to do this, so I'm posting this here in hopes that someone in our community will be able to help.
I've previously stored my FCP X Events and Projects folders on an external 3TB hard drive, because there is more room on it than on the internal 1TB hard drive, but, since then, I've worked with other media apps, for video, photography and audio, the files for which are also stored on the external hard drive, and this has created a bit of clutter with no folder structure to keep it tidy.
I like an organised file structure on my system, to keep it uncluttered, easy to navigate and efficient to use, so I put all the files for my photography, video and audio apps into their own folders, which are, in turn, stored in their appropriate folders for Audio, Photography and Video, and those three folders are stored in a folder called Media, and then I directed each app to its own files.
The only app with which this has been a problem is FCP X. While there is a way of relocating projects and events from within FCP X, it allows the user to move them from one hard drive to another, and not, as I want, from one place to another on the same hard drive.
I'm not sure if it matters, but perhaps it's relevant to mention before the next paragraph that the files that had previously been imported as events are, to save hard-drive space, stored in the events folder as shortcuts to the original files, which are stored elsewhere on the drive, rather than as duplicates of those files.
In Finder, I copied the Events and Projects folders to their intended new locations and tried in the app to link the events and projects to their new Finder location. It seemed to have worked, until I moved the original folders to the Trash. On re-opening FCP X, it was clear that the linking hadn't worked. I returned the original folders from the Trash to their original location, but that didn't entirely reverse the problem. I noticed also that, in the original and duplicated Events folders, the shortcuts had lost their links to the original files stored elswehere on the drive.
Fortunately I had run a backup before starting, so I restored the original folders and the app from the backup, and all was back to normal.
I'd be grateful if anyone could advise me on whether or not it's possible to move FCP X events and projects from one place to another on the same hard drive with the app's compliance.
    Thank you.

  • How do i migrate all my imovie projects from one computer to another

how do i migrate all my imovie projects from one computer to another

You need to attach the computers to one another say with a firewire cable? Or use an external hard drive to copy the Events/Projects and then move the hard drive to the other computer. Are you able to do either one of these first?

  • Transferring an iMovie project from one computer to another

I have an iMac with some iMovie projects that I want to work on through my MBP.
What is the best way of doing this?
Drop Box doesn't seem to be the way. Migration Assistant is an option I suppose but all I want to do is to be able to work on a project back and forth from one computer to another. Is this possible?

use any kind of drive thats big enough to hold the data your imovie projects are stored in account>movies>imovie projects

  • Moving iPhone App Project from one Mac to Another...HELP!!

    Hey guys,
Im new to programming. I made a simple app and I want to most it from one mac to another. I copied the folder and tried running it but it gave me a whole bunch of errors along the lines of:
    - directory not writable
    - permission failed
    - errors permission denied
    etc...
I do not know what I am doing wrong. Please please help!

Hi GadgetAddicted & welcome to discussions...
It sounds like you're not using the original locations that are constructed when Xcode is first installed.
If your second install is the same as the original, moving a simple project that is intact to begin with shouldn't be a problem.
Be sure that all the resources related to that project are local to the original project (inside the same parent folder), and then duplicate the parent folder...move that, but be sure the name of the parent folder in the second location is the same as in the original.
Repair permissions via Disk Utility after the move.

  • Moving an iWeb project from one computer to another

An iWeb web-site project I have been working on for years needs to be moved from one computer to another. The iWeb project currently resides in iWeb 2 on a G4 iMac running MacOS 10.4.11. I'd like to move it to my MacBook Pro so I have access to iLife 2009. What steps do I need to take to complete the transfer?

  • Moving a print project from one computer to another

Why does Apple not design the software where you could work on a project on Multiple apple devices.  You would think with the Cloud the database could reside the and then work on it from any mac you own.
Please tell me I am wrong and you can move a print project (Book , Calendar) from one Mac to another without moving a whole library.

    What App is it?
If iPhoto I thought that was what iCloud was all about???

  • Moving uploaded VSIX files from one account into another

    Hey guys,
I want to ask you if it is possible to move already uploaded and published VSIX files from account into another.
Our case is the following, our company made 2 accounts and we want to merge them as one. However, if I test this scenario with another accounts, it fails. What I do:
    1. Upload with Account1
    2. Unpublish and delete the uploaded VSIX
    3. Try to upload the same VSIX using Account2
    4. I get "Your VSIX ID already exists on the site" error (re-uploading using Account1 works fine!)
    Any help is appreciated.
    Greetings! :)

    Hi SteliyanStoyanov,
As far as I know, there's no such kind of feature, to merge two accounts as one in the VSGallery site. The reason for the "VSIX ID already exists" error may be that it will take some time to take effect after you delete an uploaded VSIX. So you
can try it after a few hours. Or change the VSIX ID and reupload all the extensions.

  • Can i move an unfinished imovie project from one mac to another

so i started a project in imovie on my parents mac and now i want to finish it off on my macbook. is there anyway I can transfer the project????

Yup. however, seeing as how it isn't finalized, well this ought to work.
1-connect up your macbook to your parents' mac (file sharing?)
2-open up iMovie (on your parents' mac)
3-click on "project library" in the upper right hand corner of your iMovie window. You should see your other hard drive there, also. drag your project to this drive. If a message comes up about "project" or "project and events", choose project and events
4-launch iMovie (on your macbook) click on Project Library. and the one your transferred should be there. drag it to the iMovie projects list and it should work
oh, one last thing. Both your parents' mac and your macbook should have the same version of iMovie for this to work, so I've been told

  • Exporting/Importing iMovie project from one iMac to another

I have an iMac in my office and need to bring an in-progress iMovie project home to work on it over the weekend. Obviously, the iMac is not portable. : ) How do I successfully export the project from my iMac at work and import it to my iMac at home? I was able to move the "event", but the project itself is blank.
    Thanks!

I'm not an "expert" but I helped someone with this before...

  • Moving an imovie file from one mac to another

My mac says it's too big to burn the file onto a disk and I don't have a DVD burner. So I've been trying to move the file to my friends mac. I've tried to export the movie and made it a DVD project and burned it as just a normal data file but when i try to open it onto my friends computer there are missing components. Now I've given up i just want the imovie to be on my friends computer.

    Welcome to the forums.
The iDVD projects don't transfer because they are not self-contained -- they are drawing information from the iMovie projects. If you Shared/Exported from iMovie to Full-Quality Quicktime, and the resulting file was bigger than 4.5ish gigs, then some options (rather than a data DVD) are:
    - connect your two Macs with Firewire or Ethernet and transfer the Quicktime file (I have a small Ethernet network that was very easy to set up).
    - use an external hard drive to transport the Quicktime file.
    - use Quicktime Pro (or similar) to break up the large Quicktime file into pieces that will fit on a DVD (I think Roxio's Toast 8 automatically splits files across multiple media).
The Quicktime file will be smaller (perhaps dramatically smaller) than the iMovie files, and it will be self-contained. Perhaps do a search in the forum and see if there are some other ideas for transferring video files/iMovie projects between computers.

  • How do I copy an iMovie project from one computer to another (without using aliased files)?

I followed the instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14745 to copy an event to one library to another.  The added library was accessed through a network share.  A new folder was created in the iMovie Library package, but the media files were all aliases to the media on the original computer.  Is there any way to actually copy the files and not have iMovie just create aliases?

I think the trick is to 'Considate source media' on the new library.  See:
