Moving an iPhoto 5 Book to another machine

HELP! I created a Book in iPhoto 5 on my iBook G4. When I finished and went to order the Book I was told I needed to upgrade to iLife 9 ($79!) to do this - after we had done hours worth of work. We have a MacBook running iPhoto 8. Is there any way to transfer the Book file to this machine and have it work with that version of iPhoto?
Thanks much. --BH

The only way to move a book is to move the library it is in
This can be done by connecting the machines together (network, firewire target mode, etc), by placing a copy of the library on an eternal hard drive and connecting the EHD to the other computer or any other way that you can move the entire library
You can duplicate the library and strip out everything except the book to make a smaller library to move - see Old Toad's tutorial #9 for specific details - http://toadstutorials.info/

  • Moving pages from one iphoto book to another iphoto book

I have hit the 100 page maximum in a book I am making of recent travels. I'd like to copy and paste pages from this book into a new book so that I have volumes I and II. Is there a way to move pages from one book to another without simply re-creating them? Thanks!

Only thing I can think of is you can duplicate the whole book and then delete the pages you don't want from the new book. I'm pretty sure there's no way to copy pages from one book to another existing book.

  • I moved my iPhoto libraries from one hard drive to another and have to manually locate the photos, every time!!!

I moved my iPhoto libraries from one hard drive to another and now every time I open a library I have to manually locate the photos. After locating the first file, it works well and remembers the location of the files of all the events, even when the folders containing the actual photos are in several different locations.
The problem is that when I close and open iPhoto, it does not remember where the files were and I have to locate at least a file, all over again.
Does anyone knows if there is a way of making iPhoto "remember" or saving the location of the files?

By default, iPhoto will store its library file under ~/Pictures. To select a library manually in iPhoto:
    Ensure that iPhoto is closed.
Hold down the Option key and click on the iPhoto icon in your Dock or launch it from the Applications folder.
    Click on Choose Library.
Locate and select the library you wish to use.
Close iPhoto and re-open it. Does it remember the library that you selected?
For more information on moving your iPhoto library, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229.
Hope that helps, have a great day.

  • The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library.

I recently tried to look up my pictures on my time machine back up on an external hard drive. As soon as I try to open it I get the following message.
"The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library."
I have tried holding down the option key but still couldn't few the photos.
I want to know if there is anyway I can actually view these photos. I have over 85gbs of photos on the hard drive.  I have tried googling and looking at pervious forums with the same problem but nothing is working.
    Please help!

Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu. Search for "Restore items backed up with Time Machine."

  • Exporting a book to another Mac with iPhoto 6

Is there any way to move an iPhoto Photo Book off my computer to another that has the same iPhoto software? I need to continue working on it on my laptop while I travel.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    thanks!

    Yes, you can do this.
Copy your entire iPhoto Library folder to the desktop. (In Finder, with iPhoto closed.) Rename the copy (iPhoto Book Library). Option-Launch iPhoto and choose the desktop copied library. Delete all photos, etc. not needed for the book. Burn to disk from within iPhoto. When you load the disk into the other Mac, again Option-launch iPhoto and choose the book library, which will work but still remain separate from that Mac's existing library.
If you wish to merge the book library with the existing iPhoto library you can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager.

  • What steps need be done after database is moved to another machine

concurrent manager can not run anymore after i move the 'VIS' database to another machine.
what steps i need to perform at application side to correct it?

    Hi,
Have you moved the database or the application as well? This sounds like a cloning / autoconfig issue, but it depends on what you have done so far.
    Kind Regards,

  • Confusion about moving my iphoto library to another hard drive.

My startup drive is nearly full and I'd like to my my iPhoto library (I still have iphoto 4) and photos to another internal drive to free up some space. I've found brief help pages on how to do this, but I find them vague and unclear. Do I make an exact copy of the pictures folder on my startup drive on another drive? And then how do I get iPhoto to look there instead?
I'm about to import a whole lot of photos and I"d like to be ablt to view them all without filling up the startup drive.
Is there a detailed instruction page on how to do it? the "1.1.1 moving your iphoto library" info page was not detailed enough for me.

How much "more exact" could you get when you duplicate your iPhoto Library folder?
I'm not sure what source you're relying on, but iPhoto Help describes in pretty clear terms how to 1) move your iPhoto library, 2) how to make multiple iPhoto libraries, and 3) how to switch between iPhoto libraries. Sounds like what you want to do involves 1 & 3.
I guess I don't understand your reference to 1.1.1 when you have iPhoto 4 installed. Drag your iPhoto Library folder to the intended destination, then follow the Help instructions for switching between iPhoto libraries. If all is well, delete the old iPhoto Library folder.

  • Moving the update retriever to another machine

If I move the update retirever install to another machine (but keep the repository the same server location) - Do I need to move across any files ? are all the settings concerned contained in the repository ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi joebhoy,
I just did a fresh install of Update Retriever on a T530 and there is an option for Repository path. You'll be able to select the server location and you'll be all set; you shouldn't have to move any files. I hope that helps!

  • IPhoto 9 Book page previews disappear

I have been working with iPhoto and I have a significant problem that the book previews for pages disappear and appear blank. This is very annoying. I have tried all the usual, rebuild and also deleting caches etc but it has been difficult to solve. If I have it solved with a combination of the above it has just reappeared when I opened the library on another machine. If anyone has any idea of why this happens and a sure way of tackling it I would appreciate it. It is hard to edit a book when you haven't an overview of all the pages.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Robert,
when I opened the library on another machine
Does your library work consistently on 1 machine but not others?
How are you moving it around...an external drive I assume? What format is that drive?
__Non-Mac formated drives or drives with very low disk space can cause issues with the iPhoto Library.
Is it the same book you keep previewing or is it new books as well?
Assuming your are indeed hosting your iPhoto Library on a Mac formatted drive with a fair amount of free space, these are the specific steps I would take:
Ensure all your software is up to date (Apple Menu > Software Update).
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
Home > Library > Caches (I remove the whole folder. It will be re-generated upon restart.)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
If the issue persists try rebuilding your iPhoto Library following this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638. Use the bottom 3 rebuild options together.

  • Why "Corrupt File or Preview Doesn't Recognize format" msg. after moving the iPhoto folder?

    Hello,
I've moved my iPhoto Library from my Mac HD to an external hard drive (WD My Book 1) and now there are no pictures in the iPhoto application when I open it. I have a collection of over 3000. When I click on a .jpg photo within the iPhoto Library I get the message: "Corrupt File or Preview Doesn't Recognize format".
I've been told that this has something to do with moving the iPhoto library from one location to another and that I have to do something to have Tiger recognize iPhoto in its new location.
I moved the iPhoto library from my Mac HD to one of the My Book Ext HDs. But there also was a back up  of iPhoto Library on the 150 GB Acomdata Ext HD taken from the Mac HD that wasn't moved. That back up was done on a scheduled backup using Carbon Copy Cloner. However, when I looked for the iPhoto Library on Acomdata, all that was there were the seven item that don't, I think, make up any kind of a library:
    Dir.data
    iPhoto.db
    iPhotoLock.data
    Library.iPhoto
    Thumb32.data
    Thumb64.data
    ThumbJPG.data
Could someone please help me with this? I thought I had backup and also that I had moved the library carefully.
In addition, there are other files that I've moved from the Mac HD to the external that aren't opening either, such as movies (.flv "The movie could not be opened), .rtf files ("File does not exist." and .pdfs ("File error. couldn't open the file.")
    Thanks,
    Rafael

"The backup from  Acomdata doesn't appear to be a complete library."
(How do you make a clip of lines you quote that has a different background color — avalible to Apple support discussions?)
I didn't make that clear. The IPhoto Library backup wasn't to the Acomdata. I backed up IPhoto Library to the two 1 TB WD EHDs ("StorageUnit  WDnew" and "BU of StorageUnit  WDnew") then trashed the one on Mac HD.
The backup you see on Acomdata (clone of Mac HD) isn't a complete library. It's nothing but a new library I started to create and it's to be ignored. I should remove it.
Below is a picture of the back up of IPhoto Library and other items to the first WD "StorageUnit  WDnew". The backup on "BU of StorageUnit  WDnew" is the same. These two aren't bootable. They only store information. The Acomdata is bootable and that's where I back up my Mac HD. IPhoto used to be on the Mac HD and I moved it to "StorageUnit  WDnew". It's the same on "BU of StorageUnit  WDnew".
Will "Rebuild IPhoto Library" be able to pull from the external HD?
Why can't I drag and drop folders or files into the volumes in the side bar?
Should I do anything with Ownership and Permissions before I Rebuild IPhoto Library?
Should I press "Apply to enclosed items.” button to set the new read and write settings?
I listed the equipment I use in My Profile in My Products again. I'd done that before. Also, my picture, also in profile, isn't showing up. See what happenns this time.
Thanks. I have so much important stuff in those pictures that I'm very anxious to retrieve everything.

  • Moving an iPhoto library

Are there any best practices to consider in moving an iPhoto library from one machine to another?
I'd like to move a library from my Power Mac G5 to an iMac.
Do I simply replace the iMac's library (which has never been used) with the one I have on the G5, or is there something more detailed that needs to be done?
    Many thanks.

Yes.  That's exactly how to do it.

how do i import an iPhoto library from a time machine backup? I did a back up and i formatted my machine. How do i get iphoto to be the same?

This screenshot shows how to restore a library from Time Machine.
There is NO importing necessary.  One should never import one library into another.  Just restore it to your Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.

  • How do I move booksmark to another machine without replacing the bookmarks on the new machine, i.e combine a number of bookmark files

I'm setting up a laptop and want to have all the bookmarks from my desk machine to be moved there from different accounts, but in end up in one file so that I don't have to have loads of separate accounts.

You need to combine all the links to one HTML file.
You only need a file with Anchor links like this:
    <pre><nowiki>
<a href="https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/754997">How do I move booksmark to another machine without replacing the bookmarks on the new machine, i.e combine a number of bookmark files | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Support</a></nowiki></pre>
If you export bookmarks to an HTML file then you create a copy of your bookmarks and you edit that copy and you do not affect the original bookmarks.

  • How to restore new mac book from time machine

i curentley have a mac book and am planing on upgrading to a pro but i have to sell this one first. can i restore my new mac pro using the time machine backup from this mac book or is there another way i have to do this being as i wont have both laptops at the same time??
    thanks for any help..

If you can recover the old machine (may not be worth the cost), then you could deactivate directly. A lot depends on what crashed, the HD, mother board, or other. On a PC, the hard drive can sometimes be recovered with SpinRite as long as the crash was not fatal. There are other tricks too, but all of them depend on the crash conditions and what the problem is. If the hard drive is actually good, maybe you could just put it in another machine and run the deactivation. Of course, not everyone has a bunch of machines on hand to play with. For PCs, I often head to the department surplus pile and see if I can find something to work with (not my stock). If I find a working machine there, then I just swap it out. Of course, that is for work machines. For a home machine, I might do it for testing or repair and then put things back after the repair.
