Moving apps and music
A quick question. My son is getting a 3GS. He as up to now been using my old (not activated) 1st gen iPhone as an iPod. So he's loaded it up with apps and music. I occasionally sync it to my laptop.
Now when he gets his new phone, we'll start syncing it to the family iMac under his user account. So the question is, what's the best way to migrate all of his stuff? Music I suppose is easy, we can just drag the songs over via home sharing, correct? What about apps? I don't think I can just plug the old phone in and have it move his apps over, can I? Thanks
With the original iPhone connected to iTunes and if he has his own iTunes account with being logged in to iTunes with his iTunes account, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of the iPhone. Whichever iTunes account the apps were downloaded with, iTunes needs to be logged in with that iTunes account.

hello i just came back from the apple store and they had to restore my phone and i just downloaded all my apps and music back but my photos that are on icloud i only got 80 out of 768 back. what do i do to get all of them back?
If you tried to restore to your iCloud backup and your photos didn't fully restore, first go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and make sure it isn't still in the process of restoring.
If the restore is complete and all your photos weren't restored, all you can do is try restoring the backup again. You might try the solution posted by ezjules in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589. This involves opening the photos app after the phone restarts and you provide the passwords for your Apple IDs, then leaving it open for the remainder of the restore process. -
i want to update my phone, but i purchased many apps and music on the phone. it won't let me authorize my computer so i cannot update. i don't want to deauthorize all my computers. how can i find out which 5 computers i have authorized? also how can i update the software?
This is a tedious solution, which is stupid! And some users report an inability to reauthorize a computer after an "en masse” deauthorization. I can’t believe Apple doesn’t provide a list or menu to find out which computers you’ve authorized! Obviously, APPLE knows (or else they couldn’t tell us how many computers we have authorized)--so why can’t they give us access to that information about our own computers??!!!
And for an already-authorized computer with a hard drive that’s since been replaced and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, would it be recognized as a “new computer” and require authorization? Would its previous incarnation (i.e., with the old hard drive and OS) be considered a separate computer? Some users report they can’t authorize a computer after an OS upgrade because of that. Can’t believe we have to do such a bass-ackwards kludge! -
Has anyone else had trouble with update 6.1.2 for I phone? After the update, I can't get back on my network (password is correct), ICLOUD doesn't transfer my downloads, nothing seems to work. It saved my calandar and address book, but lost all of my apps and music (except for a few songs, figure that out) and I can't get them back. Any suggestions?
I had this problem post 6.1. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I'd just recently changed my password after being convinced I'd been hacked, due to being told I was entering my password wrongly, repeatedly by iCloud / iTunes. It turns out my iCloud account on my Settings -> Mail, Contacts and Calendars was listed as Inactive. Putting in my details, turning off Contacts over iCloud (thus deleting them) and turning them back on again, repopulated my contacts from iCloud with numbers attached to them.

Just downloaded 7.2 into my Iphone 5 what a mess. Dropped called no audible notifications for email or text messages. Went to the apple store and reset phone to original specs. Now trying to restore apps and music and itunes will not recognize the phone. I have gone thur the steps for windows 7 and still nothing??? I have downloaded the newest version I itunes too.

You need to set up a separate iCloud account for each person that does not want to share their iCloud data. If you share an iCloud account with someone, any data you both sync with the shared account is merged, and you end up with each other's data on your device(s). If, for example, you owned two devices and someone else in the family also owned two devices, you would both want your own iCloud accounts, and you would each set up your personal iCloud account on the two devices you own. In other words, you want a separate iCloud account for each person to be used on the devices they own. Each iCloud account has to have a separate Apple ID. The ID does not need to be the same as the ID used for iTunes. Many families perfer to share the same iTunes account/ID, but maintain separate iCloud accounts with different IDs to keep there data separated.

Yes, I was referring to the iTunes ID not needing to be the same as the ID used for iCloud. In order to set up an Apple ID your children will need to have a valid email address that can be verified by Apple. Apple requires this so they have a way of contacting the owner if there is a problem with the account, such as when you may need to reset the password on the account. When you set up the ID, Apple will send a verification email to this email account and you will need to click on the verificating link in the email to complete the process. If they don't currently have an email account you can just set one up with gmail or another free email hosting service. They don't have to use the account but you will need it to set up the ID. -
I have a few devices on one apple id and would like to switch out one of my phones so they have there own apple id do I have to restore the phone as new or can i somehow switch it without losing all apps and music in iTunes?

Bought my 9 year old an ipod touch last night. Tried to set it up with her own account and her own Apple Id, so we do not share apps and music. It tells me she does not meet age requirement to have her own id. Tried to set it up on computer, and my music transferred to her new ipod. Help.
You will have to set up the account in your name and supervise its use. The birthday you specify has to result in an age of at 13 years.

My husband and I had been sharing an iTunes account, which meant that when he synced his iPhone, all his apps and music appeared on mine as well, and vice versa. This was annoying, so I created my own account and have changed the Apple id on my phone. However, when I try to sync it on iTunes, no devices at all show up in the sidebar. What am I doing wrong?
Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings. Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account. You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to

Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account. (have restrictions turned off) That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices. Then sign in using the new ID. -
HT5622 Can you have multiple apple ids and all share the same apps and music?
I have multiple devices, iphone 5s (myself), mini ipad (son), 5th generation ipod (daughter). When I receive imessages they are going to the other devices and not my phone. Is this because I have all devices set up on the same Apple User ID or am I missing something in Settings that needs to be turned on/off? I have all devices under the same User ID to control the purchases. Now I'm thinking maybe each device needs to have it's own User ID and if I switch them now, will we all still share the same apps and music? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Wouldn't you only need to create a new apple ID and put that on your phone instead of your old apple ID that is merged?

I bought another iPad for my daugther. Because she has no PC, I loaded her iPad with apps from My PC. Now she is in Oceanside CA. And I am in Iraq with my iPad and PC.. My question is: How can my daughter load some apps of her own? If I buy her iTunes gift cards, can she redeem them on her iPad with out using my Pin number (as that would give her access to my credit card)! I prefer to gifted her purchases, not allow her to purchase with access to my credit card. Can this be done?
well if the ipad is on your itunes account then her apps and music etc will be billed to you. but if you give her gift cards you should take off your credit card because itunes won't tell you when you are all through with your gifted money and are back to useing your credit card until after you have made a purchase

How can I view my full billing history for the app and music stores without iTunes installed?
I just received an email receipt from Paypal showing a $12.99 purchase from iTunes. I almost NEVER purchase anything over around five dollars in the app or music store. Since PayPal does not show what this purchase was for, I have not received the receipt from Apple yet, and I cannot find anyway to look up online what this purchase was for....I need help to find out ASAP what this purchase was. If my account has been compromised or if I have been incorrectly charged for something, I would like to get the issue handled immediately. I do not want to install iTunes on my PC (nor should I have to for Pete's sake), but I cannot see anything recent at all in my app or music history on my iPad (not that I would ever purchase anything for $12.99 anyway...I just don't). You can set up an iCloud account on each one (the SAME iCloud account using the same AppleID on each) and then sync via iCloud.

However, an iCloud backup nor sync contains purchased content - that is available for redownload from the iTunes and App stores (so no need to waste iCloud space storing it for you).
So, for purchased content, you will have to download it on each device - just use the same AppleID and download each item on each device.
Without a computer to aid the sync'ing, downloading the purchased content on each device is the only way.
P.S audiobooks cannot be re-downloaded once purchased (all other content can be), so without a computer to save, store and move the audiobook files around, you will only be able to put those on one device - the one you first purchase it on.
