Moving apps in Tiger

I want to move Garage Band, iMovie and iDVD to my USB 2.x HD to save disk space. So I just drag and drop the apps and thats it? In OS 9 I had to also drag and drop extensions and other files.
I have never used these apps, since I lack a DVD burner and am not into making music. However I do watch DVD's so I hope this will not cause any problems with my ibook.
I see that this will release over 1.5GB's of space.
I have had to do very little troubleshooting in Tiger in the year I have owned my ibook. With my old Performa troubleshooting was a weekly task. So hence why I'm a expert in OS9 troubleshooting but know little about this in X.

for applications you use, especially Apple apps, I would not recommend this paticular approach. X is a lot pickier about program locations than 9 - Some X programs get upset when not in the Applications folder. Others will not update, as they are hardcoded to look in the Applications folder.
But if it's something you don't use, then yes, you can do it. Given you have the install/restore CDs, you don't really need to copy them.

iDVD is not required to watch a DVD.

  • Issue With Safaricon.app and Tiger

I've been using Safaricon.app to change Safari's address bar buttons for some time, with no issues. Recently, I moved up to Tiger(10.4.8) from Panther(10.3.9). Now, I can't use Safaricon because it just won't accept my administrator's password.
I've tried deleting the Safaricon key from Keychain Password and deleting Safaricon's p.list, which is what Safaricon's developer suggested. No go.
I then trashed Safaricon and reinstalled it. Still no go.
I even went as far as trashing Keychain Access and reinstalling it from my Tiger installation DVD(using Pacifist) but still no go.....Safaricon just won't accept my administrator's password as valid.
I've got no problems with Keychain Access other than this one. I'm totally flummoxed........anyone have some ideas?
    17" Powerbook - 1.5GHz - 1.5GB RAM -   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Well, I finally found the fix. I was unable to use either Diskwarrior or Techtool Pro because of error messages or authentication problems. I thought this very bizarre and suspected that my OS was corrupted, so I did an OS archive and reinstall. Problem solved.
But thanks, ~Bee, for your replies.

  • Moving apps to sd card in jellybean

I've heard that jellybean 4.1 and 4.2 do not support moving apps to sd card but I want a true reply , will jellybean update for xperia go/j/xperia e support move to sd card ( official update by Sony) , as they all have sd card slots and quite a limited internal memory! Thanks Sony and thanks so much for the better support , keep it up guys , Sony forever
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Since an official JB update isn't released yet, I can't answer this question. We will just have to wait. But personally I doubt that the phones that has the possibility to move apps to SD will lose it in the update.

  • Moving apps between screens

I'm having trouble moving apps between screens. I can move one app but then if I try and move another, I drag it off the side of the screen but the screen doesn't change. The only workaround I have is to move an app to the dock, change the screen with a swipe, then move the app out of the dock back onto the new screen. Is anyone else having this problem?

I thought this was broken on my iPad after upgrading to iOS 4.2. After messing around, I found that if I move an icon around on the screen and hold it at the edge of the screen for a few extra seconds, with the edge of the icon slightly off the screen. Then the screen will change.

  • Has Leopard moved on from  Tiger? Really?

okay so 10.5 was all this its going to be big, it's going to be the way forward and its going to deliver so much more than Mac OS X has ever done since they launched 10.1 back in 2001. Now all excited that when I installed 10.5 I was going to see the see Tomorrow, Today. To be sadly presented with a re-modeled skin version of 10.4, okay some new apps, some upgraded but nothing that would indicate to a typical user that mac has changed since the launch of 10.4. I have been a mac user for 20 years and to watch the change over the years has been awesome, but to come to 10.4 which I knew as soon as I started using it, the question remained "Next time how will they better it" and apple said "we will just design new skins for apps and the OS and call it 10.5".
The Point Im getting at is that mac os 10.5 has not moved forward for a typical day to day general user. Ical was a simple, easy on the eyes program, its got worse, Safari has never changed or moved on in shape and design for a long long time. Apple focused on this useless way forward, in reality users want a more focused way of working. On the Monday following the launch of 10.5 my employees logged in to their computers and was using 10.5 only one person noticed something had changed out of 110 people in the company and that one person said "Has my computer been updated?, because there are many new useless things on here I'll never use." 1 Person who did work for apple and thinks the computer may has been upgraded. It's still better than Vista because everyone knows thats a chicken soup made from chicken ....
I think apple could have really focused on what the user really wants, no what apple thinks looks good just to out do Windows. I use 10.5 and its nothing better than what 10.4 was.
But let me and my company know what you make of the new OS X. 10.5

I disagree. Though Leopard clearly has some issues that will need to be worked out, I find it a significant step forward. The underpinnings are much improved (for instance, early tests indicate that threading between multiple processor cores is much more efficient), Spotlight is vastly improved, much of the management is better organized, Time Machine (though again with some issues to resolve) provides an innovative and easy to use backup system, Quick Look is very handy as is Spaces, and the included applications have mostly seen nice improvement. Yes, there's some eye candy, and some features (Stacks, for instance) are perhaps not as well thought out and flexible as they could be. But overall I find Leopard to be a solid, evolutionary improvement, as much as Tiger was over Panther.
Safari has never changed or moved on in shape and design for a long long time.
Sure it has. There have been lots of new features. None of them are huge, and few are really innovative (Web Clip holds a lot of possibilities), but there's only so much you can do with a browser and Apple is clearly concentrating on providing a solid, well-thought-out, easy to use browser. You can disagree whether or not they've achieve that goal, but it's not correct to say that Safari hasn't moved on; or you could say that for just about any browser (IE 7 in Windows "moved on in shape and design", but in that case most people would agree that it was most definitely not a good thing).
As with any product, your needs may or may not take advantage of any of the new features in Leopard, or may find them less impressive or useful. But that doesn't mean that someone else won't find a given feature or addition very useful and appealing indeed. Personally, and speaking as someone who supports over 200 users, I find that having users not be immediately aware that a new OS has been installed to be a good thing; unlike with Vista, we don't have massive retraining issues to deal with.
Just my opinion, but that's what you asked for.

  • Moving Apps from One Account to Another

When I moved to my new job I got a new phone.  Not being sure what to do I set up a new BB Id with my new e-mail.  Now I can't get my apps from my old account.  How can I move those apps from my old account to my new one without having to pay for them again?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It is a matter of using that old BB ID...apps cannot transfer between BB IDs, but BB IDs can transfer between devices, carrying along their purchase records.
To re-install your apps, please see this KB:
KB17625 How to install or transfer previously purchased applications from BlackBerry App World to a BlackBerry smartphone
Given that you've already created a new BB ID on the new device, you may also need this KB:
KB26694 How to change the BlackBerry ID on a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet or BlackBerry smartphone
I'm sorry that the process will be so cumbersome, but it is what it is.

  • Moving app from one screen to another fails very often

I'm using the feature to manually move apps from one screen to another on iPhones. It works very smooth without any problem on these devices.
On my iPad 3 I've some trouble with that feature. 1 out of 20 tries works. It makes no difference if moved slow, fast or concentrated - it fails too often.
Spoken with other people using iPad leads to the results the problem also exists on iPad 2. So what happens? You switch to edit mode by holding the "Home" button and wait until the apps are vibrating. Now you put a finger over an app, hold them and move them to the right or left display border. Instead of switching to the next screen the icon jumps back to it's original position. Different people tried it on my iPad and all of them failed in the given rate.
Workaround is to use the shortcut bar on the bottom or to use iTunes from Mac or PC. I've also noticed that most of the time a "close" request of an application (by hitting the "-" sign on an app icon) failed if the app is on the border of the display. This happens randomly and you feel you missed the "-" sign so repeating the operation. But if you concentrate on it you will notice it doesn't respond properly.
As a result my impression is the touchscreen functionality is not as good as on iPhone. Where I have no problem at all with both operations. As other people also suffer from this issues it must be related to the iPad screen.

Yes by restoring the iPhone from the backup of the Pod.  The app has to be in the iTunes library of the computer on which you do the restore.

  • Problems moving app from tomcat 321 to 4.0

I have serious problems moving an old app from tomcat 321 to 4.0. I tried just moving the entire webapps/<myApp> to the new server, and also using a war-file, but I get a message saying that one of my Beans doesn't exist.
Its a bean in the /WEB-INF/classes subdir, so its in an annonymous package. The jsp-page accessing it uses the
    <jsp:useBean id="dateBean" class="DateBean" scope="session" />
    tag.
Error message from jsp-page says: org.apache.jsp.DateBean not found.
Seems my tomcat4 doesnt use the web-inf/classes in its classpath???
    regards
    Markus

I don't believe the current Servlet specs allow for anonymous packages. Try moving your class into its own package (under WEB-INF/classes/packagename/) and see if that fixes the problem. Also be sure to change the <jsp:useBean> tag to give the full classname in the class attribute.

  • Moving Apps from PC to PC OS9

Have a question for everyone here, I have a MAC Quciksliver that has OS 9 and I want to move some of the Apps from that PC to a 2nd PC with a newly installed dual boot with OS 9 and OS X Tiger.
Some of the apps I want to move are Photoshop Illustrator and few more I can't think of, since I got the PC's used I don't have the install discs.
Can I just stick in a flash drive and copy the folders of the apps from the OS 9 app folder on the old pc and paste in the orther PC and expect it work?
    Thanks for any help!

You'd need to  move the preferences from the System Folder as well, and you could run into permissions problems with that.
OS 9 does not use permissions, hence no permissions problems.
In addition to prefs files... - though rare, some apps have extensions associated with them, and it is necessary to also move those.

  • Moving apps between databases

I have a fairly complicated application that has thousands of queries all with table names with fully qualified db links built in. For instance:
    select *
    from [email protected]
There are lots of dynamic queries buried in PL/SQL too.
Now I want to be able to shift this application easily between our dev and prod environments and I thought I'd be able to create two application items: Fnnn_DBUSERNAME and Fnnn_DBLINK then export the application, do a global find/replace and change all the tables to &Fnnn_DBUSERNAME.tablename&Fnnn_DBLINK.
But the SQL then becomes dynamic SQL and needs to be in a PL/SQL block. So all the queries would need significant rework to insert escape characters and concatenation.
I guess when moving between dev and prod I could export the app then find all links of one type and replace them with another before importing to prod but it doesn't seem very elegant.
Is there a standard approach to making applications portable?

You might want to consider creating synonyms in the APEX application's parsing schema for all object references of the the type <owner>.tablename@dblink.
The values for 'owner' and 'dblink' can be chosen as appropriate for the environemnt. The application should then simply refer to the synonyms rather than the fully qualified names.
This will make moving your apps between environments easier.

  • Mail app on Tiger and Leopard no longer bring in mail from non-apple servers

My husband's computers use Tiger and Leopard (10.5.8) to access his email on the Mail program.  His mail is from Comcast and uses the Comcast server, not apple or iCloud.  His mail suddenly stopped working a couple of days ago.....as it did on one of my machines that still uses Tiger.  He had not done any updates that could have broken the software.  He does not have iCloud except on his phone and he doesn't even have a .mac address.  There is no reason for the comcast server to not be able to be accessed by Mail app.
He did finally update everything that needed it and it still does not work.  Why would Apple's change over to iCloud break email access from other servers and how can we fix it.  He really doesn't want to do his mail on Comcast's web site as it's slow and awkward.
Thanks for any help you all can offer.
    Paula

    Thank you for answering.
I know it shouldn't have been able to stop those accounts from working on the Mail app but it did.Out of 4 machines, 3 stopped working at the same time.  The 4th is on Snow Leopard and continues to get my Comcast mail.  But the one Tiger machine and 2 Leopard machines no longer access any mail from any server.  Shouldn't be possible, but it happened.
I don't want to delete accounts because I don't want to lose the old email in the different folders on there and the software is acting so bizarrely, I know the mail would be lost.
I checked all the settings and compared them to the one on Snow Leopard that still works.  The settings are all the same.  The only difference is the OS.
And to make things more frustrating, I found that several entries in my Contacts book were either deleted or scrambled with phone numbers for person A in the entry for say, person C.  I mean it's a real mess and this all happened after I got a notice from Apple that they were shutting down all their mobile me stuff and sending everything to iCloud.  Syncing is obviously a mess now and I don't even want my stuff sync'd there.  My husband has never even signed up for iCloud but since he has an iTunes account, thus an Apple acct, they appear to have automatically put him on iCloud too.  And....mail quit working unless he gets it on his iPad or iPhone.
We're fed up with Apple's insistence on total control of it's customers' previously working equipment.  We have no desire to upgrade to Lion or it's next iteration. We have been happy with what we have and asked only that it continue to just WORK.
It's become a rotten Apple in the past few years.  We've been with them a long time but  we're watching other companies closely for something that will do what we need without the draconian control.
I have a feeling the only way to "fix" Mail.app is to upgrade to Lion and we won't be doing that.
    Thanks again.

  • Moving apps from one page to another

I am a new iPod Touch user and have accidentatlly moved one of my apps to a page of its own and want to move it back to the previous page of apps.
How do I move an app from one iPod Touch (2nd Generation) page to another page?

    "Customizing the Home Screen
You can customize the layout of icons on the Home screen—including the Dock
icons along the bottom of the screen. If you want, arrange them over multiple Home
    screens.
    Rearrange icons:
1 Touch and hold any Home screen icon until the icons begin to wiggle.
2 Arrange the icons by dragging them.
3 Press the Home button to save your arrangement.
You can also add links to your favorite webpages on the Home screen. See “Web
    Clips” on page 58.
Create additional Home screens: While arranging icons, drag an icon to the right
edge of the screen until a new screen appears. You can flick to return to the original
screen and drag more icons to the new screen.

  • Moving apps from Blackberry app world to Home Page

I just got a new blackberry tour and I'm having a heck of a time moving new apps that I downloaded to my homepage. I downloaded three apps and was able to move them to the homepage with no problem by clicking the blackberry button and selecting "move to home". That is very clear and I understand the concept.
But for some reason I can't move any other apps. I can't move my facebook app because there is no option to "move to homepage" or "move". Pandora and all of these apps are located in My world in the Black Berry app world.
Can anyone help me? maybe I'm missing something simple
    Thanks much!
