Moving Around the Timeline

Hi,
Just a quick question about moving around the timeline. I'm using the up and down arrow keys to jump between cuts, but for some reason I can jump back beween cuts, but when clips are stepped up it doesn't seem to let me jump forward to the next edit.(I'm on the FCP keyboard config)
Also, to jump forward the begining, or back to the end I'm supposed to use the home/end key. does anyone know what this is on a MacBook Pro keyboard?

I assume you're referring to when you have more than one track with clips on them. In that case, you need to be mindful of which tracks are targeted; that controls which tracks are subject to the Next/Previous Edit commands.
For example:
Any track that isn't targeted will be ignored by the Next/Previous Edit commands. Just click the header "button" to enable or disable a track. Track targeting affects many other operations in Premiere Pro--for example, adding edits or applying transitions. Check out this Help document page for some more info: Targeting tracks

Tips for moving around the timeline

Trying to get the hang of this Premiere thing and use as many keyboard shortcuts as possible. I've skimmed through the online help and picked up some useful ones (like - + \ for zooming)
Is there any way to scroll vertically besides the scroll bars? The hand tool only wants to scroll horizontally.
Also, if I'm zoomed in, how do I scroll down the timeline? Page Up/Down only gets me to the next clip.
Any shortcuts to twirl open a track?
Lastly, is there any sort of gap detector? Trying to hunt down 1 frame gaps is a pain.

Well, I agree that's important, but you need to consider that they're still different applications with different purposes and different modalities.
After Effects is temporally-based, but it's also--and perhaps more so--spatially-based. What I mean is that, while you are concerned with timing in AE (naturally--it's for animating), you're also focusing largely on positioning elements in space. In AE, everything resides on its own layer, even if parts of a comp are separated by time.
In Premiere Pro, the focus is different. Yes, of course, you're positioning things spatially, particularly since PPro has gained more and more compositing capabilities. But ultimately, you're primarily concerned with positioning elements in time more than in space. When I'm working in an NLE--PPro or otherwise--I'm working with full-frame video 95%+ of the time, and I'm not moving clips around in a frame. However, I am moving clips around in time--before this one, after that one, etc. Therefore, PPro and all other NLEs are more "horizontally-oriented" if you consider time a horizontal plane as depicted by the time ruler.
So, no--I do not think that moving vertically in a Premiere Pro sequence/Timeline panel is so important that it should be the default action. I understand people want this--I will not argue that--but this either needs to be a) a secondary function, or b) we need to be able to customize scroll wheel actions to accommodate individual users. Either is fine with me, so long as the current behavior is not changed.

Iweb background stretches when objects are moved around the page

Hello, I am creating a simple site in iWeb and I cannot get my background image to be consistent through all of my pages. What I mean is the position of the image varies slightly through the pages. In my home page (and all of my other pages)the background is set to "Image Fill" and "Scale to Fill", and the page sizes are all the same at 700px wide by 480px high. I have the nav bar and page heading/title positioned exactly the same on all pages also.
I notice that when I move around text boxes that are in a page the background stretches or shrinks depending on the position of the box, and am assuming that this has something to do with it, but like I said before, the navigation and header "text boxes" are all positioned the same. Is there any way to turn off this scaling of the background when moving objects around the page? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this image and make it consistent through all of my pages? Thanks for your help.

When you set as image as a page background and set it to scale for fill, when you move text downward, extending the length of the page, the image size will change no matter what fill option is used, fit, fill stretch or tile. Using the original size will keep the image exactly the same in all instances but if the page is lengthened beyond the images height you'll get the browser's background to show in the page. But, if you size the image you're using to be taller than any of your pages it will be fixed in all your pages. NOTE: You can use this method only on White and Black blog layouts. However it the blog length gets long it will extend beyond the image height. So set up the image and blog accordingly.
Try using the image for the browser background and set the page background to none. That will keep the image the same for all layouts. If you have a blog you can change the theme to White or Black, depending on the font color needed, and can use the image for browser background method. The image will need to be large enough to fill the browser's window and will be locked at the left edge. That is if the browser window is widened the image will not be centered but set at the left side of the window.

Stopping clips from moving along the timeline.....

Doing quite well with FCE. One thing I haven't worked out is how to 'lock' things in the timeline. eg: if I delete something or change the length then everything else shifts along the timeline.
Please help!

There are two types of DELETE in FCE/FCP: 'ripple' and 'lift.'
A lift delete can be performed using the {delete} key on a standard keyboard (aka as backspace delete). This is the key just below the F11 and F12 keys. A lift delete will delete the selected clip without causing the other clips on the Timeline to shift.
A ripple delete can be performed using the {del} key (aka forward delete). This key is two keys below the F13 key (above the left arrow key) on a standard keyboard. The ripple delete will delete the selected clip and shift clips other clips on the Timeline to fill the gap.

HT1766 how to find the icon which can be moved around the screen with "siri, favorites,home device"?

I'd like tohave the moving icon which contains siri,favorites,home and ddevice, you can move it around on the ipad screen. It's a small round one,but becomes square when it is bigger. so where to find it and how to install it?

ENTER makes the movie skip around the timeline

I have a multiline text box for data entry. If the user hits
enter in there for a new line, the program jumps to a different
place in the time line. I checked to see if this was something I
had inadvertently programmed in by creating a new test program with
a few key frames and no text input. The enter key jumps me around
in there too. How do I get rid of this behavior?

I believe your problem is the Enter key under previewing
mode. When test movie, Enter mean play :-)
So, check if it also happen in published swf.

Moving around the canvas in Preview

Without a trackpad, is there an easy way to navigate around a large zoomed in document while in Preview? (using scroll bars is not easy)
In most Adobe apps, if I hold down the spacebar, I get a hand tool that allows me to pan around an image. But I don't know of any keyboard shortcut or tool inside of Preview. (There used to be a hand tool in Snow Leopard's Preview, if I remember correctly)

ICal events are moving around the calender

I tried to move an event from one date to another tonight, and after that iCal started flashing that event back and forward between the original date to the new one right in front of my eyes, and another event has been replicated and moved to another date.
I have tried deleting the shifting events, and even deleted calenders that the 2 events are under, but they keep reappearing. I have also tried refreshing the com.apple.ical.plist, and have restarted the machine several times.
Could this be a virus? I'm too nervous to sync my iphone just in case.
We have Leopard with all the latest updates (OS X 10.5.8) with iCal 3.0.8

Worked it out - I was using a custom date format to give me day and date in the menu bar - reverting to one of the standard built in 'British' works - but then I lose my day in the menu bar....

Why does my banner keep on moving around the site?

i have a small domain registration and hosting business for people who dont have the time or know how to do it. the banner keeps on changing position in the browser. It should be in the centre of the 2nd part, but sometimes it isn't (Maybe about 40% of the time!!) Please see if you can find whats wrong with it? Thank you http://uk-domains.co.cc

I've only had a quick look, but the concept of centring doesn't fit too well with absolute positioning, which you seem to have mostly used. Anyone using different text sizes can cause a layout like that to come to bits fairly easily. If no-one comes back I'll take a closer look later.

Acrobat-related error message in Word when moving around the ribbon

Acrobat X, all latest updates installed
Word 2010
Acrobat/Word add-in is installed
Recently, started getting the error Custom UI Runtime Error in Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin/an error occurred while calling the callback "GetImage"
Error comes up in Word whenever I switch between tabs in the Word Ribbon. Happens even when a new, blank document is open.
Does not affect functionality as far as I can tell, and the error is easily dismissed, but it still pops up whenever I interact with the ribbon.
Ran a repair on both Word and Acrobat, did not help.
Any thoughts?

I would like to report that I have the exact same problem/error. All updates installed, no errors in outlook or excel.
I'm running vista, office 2007, Acrobat Standard X
I had a demoversion of Acrobat XI installed before I installed X. My thought was, that that might have something to do with the error. During demotime with XI that error didn't appear.
I'm using the same workaround for now, but I actually normally would like to know if my addins produce errors.
Are there any other suggetions?

Motifs in illustrator CC moving around the artboard of their own accord! Help!

I'm designing some motifs in Illustrator CC but every few minutes the design moves either left or right, entirely of its own accord. I'm using a PC, touch pad only and this is sometimes happening when I'm not touching the computer at all. Any help would b appreciated. Thank you.

Moving around the document

Is it possible to see the area off screen to the left and top of the slide?
When you zoom out the slide fits in the top left corner hiding everything left and above? Which makes things difficult when you want something to come on from the left or above in terms of positioning?

There isn't any way to see that part of the work area, unfortunately.

Moving around the inspector window

I am able to bring up the Inspector Window via my keyboard. Does anyone know how to move about the functions within the Inspector Window with the keyboard and not the trackpad? It would save me time and my keystrokes would be more precise. Thank-you

Losing the audio track when moving a clip from the browser to the timeline

Today we were trying to add two clips from the browser in Final Cut Express HD to the timeline that was created yesterday. The problem is, the clips we were adding today are not moving with the audio tracks. All other clips from when we created the movie are fine but the two we added today have no sound. The audio works when viewing the clip in "viewer" but not once it is moved to the timeline. Any thoughts?

Look at the left side of the time line, there is a device (the patch panel) to set the current video and audio target tracks. (little V1 and a1 a2 icons). Swith them to desired tracks to select the target audio tracks (that's where the video and audio-or just one of them-will be inserted in timeline upon editing). There is also a contextual menu (control click) with reset panel command.
