Moving backup data from one disk to another in TIME MACHINE...

Happy Holidays to all...
Just bought a TC and love it; my main mac took about 48 hours to back up, but now is on line with it; I have a macbook I have been backing up to an external HD for a while now and wonder how I can move the backup file from this HD to the TC. Is is possible? If I simply respecify the TC to be the TM disk, what happens to the current HD? Don't want to make a move until I know the consequences...
Thanks.
Ger

Thank you so much; bummer though; I have about a years worth of TM on my attached drive.
Yes, I did it wirelessly; I thought that was the point of TIME CAPSULE. It has been a pain updating every hour though; it takes a bit of time each time; I found a great utility, though, that allows you to set the backup frequency for as long as every 12 hours; This makes it more practical to have the wireless backup. very cool:

Back up your old phone, then restore your new one from the backup.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109.

  • Moving iWeb data from one computer to another

I have an iWeb site on my old mac lap top. I can not get the data to transfer to the new laptop. How do I move all iweb entries from one computer to another?

I would say that if you created pages in iWeb, your ability to do this originated from a basic Domain file, and it is there, in your computer, somewhere. I have seen cases where it appeared as though work that was published to a folder and not 'saved' in the application didn't make it into the Domain file, but I haven't been able to replicate this situation.
Spotlight "Domain", and see what comes up. Also, make sure you are looking in your Home Folder location, not your main HD library.

  • Using Time Machine to backup data FROM external disk to ANOTHER external

i have my itunes library and my iphoto library on an external WD disk connected to my MacBook Pro. So, i have a lot of nice data on that disk that i want protected... but Time Machine is not playing nice with the external hard drive. It's not listed on the list of items "Not to backup", yet when I go into the Time Machine interface, i can't go more than 1 level deep in Finder when selecting the external disk.
has anyone seen this behavior? it's supposed to work.
    thanks!

Did you backup your data from that external disk using some other backup software before?
I am also trying to figure out problems with external HD using time machine to back it up. Am not quite sure yet why it is not working right.

  • Using Migration assistant to transfer data from one disk to another

I will install a new SSD disk but I would like to make a clean install with Mountain Lion but after that migrate data from the old HDD, that it is now installed in the place of the optical drive, to the new. I would like to know how to do that correctly and also if there is any advice to do this better.

I agree the best solution is to install clean then install programs then copy data over for a true new clean install.
But I still don't understand why you said setup assistant isn't a option either. It certainly is a option and in my opinion a much better option than migration assistant. Which is what the original poster was asking about.
As for cloning I have read it is best when going from standard drive to ssd it is best to do a new clean install instead of cloning. So I wouldn't consider cloning a option in this case. But that is my opinion from the reading I have done. I was thinking about installing a ssd in my mac notebook.
    Thanks.

  • Moving iTunes Data from one Mac to Another

Hello,a little history first. I have a early 2007 Mac Pro that died on me. The screen on my Apple 20 inch cinema display is gray with thin yellow vertical lines on it. Could be video card or monitor. It is a little over 6 years old and I decided to get a new iMac. Due to the age of my Mac Pro I was not able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. I have the latest version of Lion on it. So even though I had a backup via time machine I knew that I would be bringing the new computer up to speed manually which I did via target mode using the firwire 800 port on the old Mac Pro via an adapter to the thunderbolt port on the new iMac.
While in target mode I saw that my Mac Pro hard drive showed up as a startup disk in system preferences so I slected it and did a restart to hopefully boot up on the old drive so I could turn off time machine and de-authorize my iTunes account. On restart I get a gray screen on the new iMac with a gray circle with a diagonal line throught the circle. I waited for several minues and nothing happened. My guess is that I can't start up my old drive with Lion on the new iMac with Mountain Lion.
I want to move my impoterd and purchased music and apps for my iphone from my old Mac Pro to the new iMac. Can anyone tell what files or folders I need to move?  I do have the latest version of iTunes on the old Mac Pro.
    Regards, John

Copy the entire iTunes folder from your old Mac. It's in your user account's music folder.  Put it in the same place on your new Mac. If you already have an iTunes folder on the new Mac, replace it with the folder from your old Mac.

  • Transferring backup data from one blackberry to another

    Hi
I had 2 blackberries, both were registered on my blackberry desktop and backed up. I lost one of them. I am now trying to transfer the data on the lost phone onto the second phone but I can't access the backed up data as the desktop software keeps asking me to plug in the lost phone in order to access it.
How can I access the data on the lost phone when I can't plug in the handset to access it and transfer it onto my second phone?
    Thanks very much

  • Move data from one cube to another cube

    Hi,
I am on BW 3.5 and I have moved the data from one cube to another cube and found that the number of records in the original cube does not match to the newly created cube. for eg. if the original cube contains 8,549 records then the back up cube contains 7,379 records.
Please help me on what I need to look on and if in case the records are getting aggregated then how do I check the aggregating record.
    Regards,
    Tyson

    Dear tyson m ,
check with any update rules in ur transfer. If so check in it.
Just go through these methods for making transfer from one cube to another cube fully without missing data.
    Update rules method
if it's updated from ods, you can create update rules for cube2 and update from ods
or you can try datamart scenario
cube1 right click 'generate export datasource'
create update rules for cube2, assign with cube1
rsa1->source system->bw myself, right click 'replicate datasource'
    rsa1-> infosource -> search 8cube1 name
(if not get, try right click root note 'infosource'->insert lost node(s)
from that infosource, you will find assigned with datasource, right click and 'create infopackage', schedule and run.
    Copy from
While creating the new cube give the cube name in the "Copy from" section. It would copy all the characteristics and Key figures. It would even copy the dimensions and Navigational attributes
    Another option is:
The steps for copying the contents of one cube to another:
    1. Go to Manage -> Recontruct of the new cube.
    2. Select the "selection button"(red , yellow, blue diamond button).
3.In the selection screen you can give the technical name of the old cube, requests ids you want to load, from & to date.
4.Execute and the new cube would be loaded.
    Its all that easy!!!!!!

  • Moving time-dependant data from one table to another (archiving)

    Hello all
I would like to know if there's an easier solution or a "best practice" to move data from one table to another. The context of this issue can be found within "archiving".
More concretely: we have an application that uses several tables to log information to.
These tables are growing like crazy, and we would like to keep only "relevant" data in those tables, so I was thinking about moving data from these tables that have been in there for, say 2 months, to "archiving" tables.
I figured there must be some kind of "best practice" to get this done.
I have already written a procedure that loops the table that has the time indicator and inserts the records from the normal tables into the archive tables (and afterwards delete this data), but it seems to be taking ages to get it done.
    Thanks in advance!

There is nothing to do with PL/SQL.

You should use nologging and parallelism options

  • Moving tables with data from one client to another

    Hello friends
    I have 2 clients 001 and 002.
I have created a table with lots of data on client 001.
I have to get the same table on 002 also with the same data.
Is there an easier way of transfering this data from one table to another?
I would appreciate any feedback on this.
I know that mappings etc., can be done using the export and import of tpz file. So I want to know if there is any similar thing to transfer a table with data.
    THanks
    Ram

If you do not have the client field in your table, then the table is cross-client.
IF you have the client field filled with 001, then you need to create the same entries with client 002, I dont think that you can do this with a transport.
You have to write an ABAP that reads and writes the data.

  • Moving CMS database from one server to another

    Using the following:
    Crystal Enterprise 10, installed on W2K3 Server R2 (not making any changes to this server);
CMS database, installed on W2K Server, SQL Server 2000, SP3
New database server: W2K3 Server R2, SQL Server 2005, SP2
I found what I think are the steps to moving the database from one place to another in the CE10 Administrator's guide (pages 291-300, but I want to make sure there aren't any "gotchas" when moving the database location and/or upgrading the database version.  I'm primarily a DBA, so I already know about the Schema security change going from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005.
In a nutshell, here's my plan:
    1. Take fresh backup of the existing CMS database
    2. Stop Crystal Management Server
    3. Click "Specify CMS Data Source" on the toolbar.
    4. ETC--following the steps in the admin guide
If anyone has done this and has run into any problems (what I'm expecting) or had it go smoothly (I would be surprised), please let me know what to expect.
    Thanks!

All you really need to do is stop the crystal services.
Backup the CMS and Auditing database
Detach the CMS and Auditing database
Copy CMS and Auditing databases to new DB server
Attach the CMS and Auditing databases
    Set the compatibility mode
On the servers/s that host the CMS service, modify the ODBC connections to point to the new database server
Start the CMS service, fire up the Crystal services.
One thing to note, I don't think SQL 2005 is a supported platform for CE10 - this doesn't mean it won't work and since the support lifecycle for the product is long gone it doesn't really make much difference however you may want to run some thorough testing prior to the move.

  • How can I Move data from one column to another in my access table?

I have two columns, one that stores current month’s data and one that stores last month’s data. Every month data from column 2 (this month’s data) needs to be moved to column 1 that holds last month’s data. I then null out column 2 so I can accumulates this month’s data.
I understand how to drop a column or add a column, how do I transfer data from one column to another.
    Here is my trial code:
    <cfquery name="qQueryChangeColumnName" datasource="#dsn#">
      ALTER TABLE leaderboard
      UPDATE leaderboard SET  points2 = points3
    </cfquery>
Unfortunately, I get the following error:
    Error Executing Database Query.
[Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error in ALTER TABLE statement.
How can I transfer my data with the alter table method?

I looked up the Access SQL reference (which is probably a
good place to start when having issues with Access SQL), and
it suggests you probably need a WHERE clause in there.
I agree the documentation is a good place to start. But you should not need a WHERE clause here.
    Too few parameters. Expected 1.
If you run the SQL directly in Access, what are the results? At the very least, it should provide a more informative error message..

How do I transfer data from one iPhone to another?

If your old device is an Apple using iOS 5 or later, and you have an iCloud account, you can transfer all your saved messages, email accounts, photos, notes, and other personal settings to your new iPhone.
    Here's how...
Connect your old Apple device to WiFi and to a power source.
Back it up to iCloud by going to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup and toggling iCloud Backup on. The time it takes to ba ckup depends on how much data you have and on the speed of your internet connection.
iCloud backs up your device once a day. If it needs backing up before you transfer to your new iPhone 5, tap Back Up Now in Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup. Do not start transferring before the backup is finished.
Turn on your new iPhone and complete the setup by selecting your language and country, and choose whether to enable Location Services. When prompted, choose your WiFi network.
When prompted to set up, choose Restore from iCloud Backup, tap Next, and enter your Apple ID and password.
Select the backup of your old device and tap Restore. Wait until the device has finished restoring from the backup.
When the restore process is complete, your iPhone will restart and be ready to use.
Connect your iPhone 5 to iTunes to sync data not contained in the backup (such as music, videos, apps, and so on). You can choose the data that are synced by clicking the syncing tabs in iTunes.
