Moving Bookmarks

I am trying to move my bookmarks from my iBook G4 runing Tiger to my old desktop G4 running Panther 10.03.5. I saved the bookmarks to a memory stick, downloaded them to my new laptop, reinstalled the operating system in the desktop (Panther). When I try to put the bookmarks into the safari bookmarks folder, on the old desktop, they will not open. I tried to open the bookmarks folder and it said it was some kind of unix folder. I tried to open it with Script editor (because that was highlighted in the open with window) now the folder says it is a script editor folder and still won't open. Any suggestions??

I'm having trouble following what you did, as there's
no option in Safari to save your bookmarks I can find
(except one by one as you maker them) Likewise, the
Safari bookmarks folder isn't on my desktop, and I
can't imagine how it would be on yours.
Safari Help hasn't got an option to Export bookmarks,
which is how I'd describe what you are attempting,
but it does describe a way to synchronize them
between two computers using .Mac. It also suggests
you may be able to Import bookmarks that had been
saved as an HTML file.
VersionTracker is the place to go, I'd say. I seem to
remember several free and shareware apps, including
one called Safari Bookmark Exporter. It's roundabout
but you could also likely Import into another
browser, say Firefox, then Export and move the file
to your other computer.
Ed.
I duplicated the Safari bookmarks folder onto my desktop to move it to my new computer (used a memory stick) and had no problem. Safari stores it's bookmarks in the following file:/users/your username/library/safari/bookmarks.plst. So that was easy
Your answer solved my problem with the older computer. I synchronized between the two computers this AM--Took 30 seconds.
So, Thank you so much for your help!!

  • Can I move pages/reorder page numbers by moving bookmarks?

I'm using Adobe Acrobat XI Standard and in a different version of Adobe I used to be able to renumber the pages by dragging and moving the bookmarks. I see that I can do this using the thumbnails but I can't see the content well enough in the thumbnail view to know which one to move.

fwiw - I've used each release of  Acrobat since release "3". In no release has moving Bookmarks renumbered pages. As you've noted page numbering via PageLabel (from within the Pages panel) is doable - that's how it has been with each release.

  • I was moving bookmarks in safari and 2 complete folders have emptied their contents. The folders are still there. I don't have a working time machine and icloud has caused the relevant folders to disappear from all my machines, iPhone, iPad and iMac

I was moving bookmarks in safari and 2 complete folders have emptied their contents. The folders are still there. I don't have a working time machine and icloud has caused the relevant folders to disappear from all my machines, iPhone, iPad and iMac as well as thge MacBook Air I was working on. HELP!!!

    Hi,
There is NO need to put your whole questing in the "Questing Heather" therefore you can TYPE here. In the Text window as I did to.
    Now to your questing:
So, you moved some Bookmarks and now 2 folders are completely empty.
I think that they dropped in a other folder during dragging the Bookmarks.
Did you check ALL of you Bookmark folder if they are there?
If you didn't delete the they have to be still there.

  • Moving bookmarks, printing bookmark outline

I'd like to use my bookmark hiearchy as an outline.  Unfortunately, I cannot move the various subheadings around, or at least not entirely.  For example, I get that to nest one heading under another, you simply drag and drop it under the heading you wish it to nest around.  Great.  Works fine.  But I am unable to move one heading from a nest level up to the next level.  In other words, I can move it in (or under, if you prefer) but not out (or up).   The adobe professional help menu suggests you can do this with the arrow, but if so, I am unable to do so.  Dragging it "out" doesn't work.  Frankly, it would be easier if there were keyboard commands to do this.
This leads to the second question.  To effectively use the bookmarking heiarchy as an outline, it would be very useful to be able to print it out, save it to other applications and the like.  As near as I can tell, this isn't possible.  Apparently, there is a print function that allows printing of the outline and the affected highlighted pages but not just the outline itself.  Is that correct?
Any general help on the use of the bookmarks as an outline would be helpful, as well as any specific thoughts on the two issues described above.  Thanks.

Moving bookmarks up should work just fine... But you will need to have the sub-tree you want to move them to already open.
There are some scripts floating around for exporting the bookmarks structure in various formats. I had created one that can export it to PDF or plain-text TXT files, and also has the option to include the page numbers the bookmarks are pointing to, as well as indentation based on the hierarchy. Others have created similar tools.
Which version of Acrobat are you using, by the way?
PS - I totally agree that there should be keyboard shortcuts for moving bookmarks around...

  • Moving bookmarks to move pages option

I edit large pdf documents all the time. I start by bookmarking the pages. Then I move the bookmarks into the order that I want the pages. The tedious part is going back and moving the pages. It would be a huge time-saver if I had the option to attach the bookmark to a page or a section of pages, so that when I move the bookmark, those pages move too.

I think there are third-party plugins for Acrobat that do this (maybe
EverMap's?), but it's not a built-in feature of the application.

  • Moving Bookmarks toolbar to very top in Firefox 4

I want to move the bookmarks toolbar to the very top of the browser window.
For instance, when the Menu Toolbar is enabled, I would like this result:
    [http://i55.tinypic.com/309ua0m.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/309ua0m.jpg]
When the Menu Toolbar is dis-abled, I would like this result:
    [http://i52.tinypic.com/k2obpj.jpg http://i52.tinypic.com/k2obpj.jpg]
I have not been able to find anything that accomplishes this. The current way is a waste of real estate.

    # Right click on your title bar and select Customize...
    # Your Bookmarks Toolbar should appear. Left click and drag Bookmarks Toolbar Items either to the left or to the right of your tabs bar.
    # Select Done
    *Notes:
You may have to adjust your icons such as New Tab as it may be be moved to a different spot if not placed properly. You can adjust them back to where they were by default or wherever you want them by going back to Customize...

  • Moving Bookmarks from one Mac to another

I have a version of Safari on one of my other Macs that has all my bookmarks. How do I move those to a new one? I guess my question is really WHAT do I move to transfer bookmarks from one computer to another in Safari?
    Thanks.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter ~/Library/Safari/ as the path on one machine, and copy the file Bookmarks.plist to the corresponding location on the other. This will overwrite the existing file instead of merging them. If you want to merge them, click here for information.

  • Moving bookmarks around easily?

    Hi all,
I've been using Firefox and Safari has one advantage: one can move a folder of bookmarks easily into another folder. I have an enormous number of subjects I read up on, and so I move folders onto my bookmarks Bar quite (and then back off again) quite a bit.
Firefox lets me pan down my "FUN" folder to my "Terraforming Mars" folder (when I'm in a geeky mood) and JUST DRAG the folder out onto the bookmark bar. That is, by force of habit (going into the "FUN" folder anyway), when I decide that yes, I really do want to read about Terraforming Mars, I just drag it out. Done. No going to "organise bookmarks" or anything like that. Also, Firefox lets me just drag bookmarks up and down the folder menu as I wish. It's intuitive and "human"... I just select it, hold down the mouse, and drag up or down as I wish.
    Safari can't do that.
However, Firefox can't put those folders BACK the way Safari can! It seems like Firefox lets you unpack your folders, but Safari lets you put them away. It's petty I know... but I thought Safari would be more "intuitive" this way.
Other than that, Safari 4 seems stable so far. Good stuff.

    >Apologies if I'm missing something obvious!
I don't know if it's actually obvious at all - it's certainly been a bit of a bone of contention in the past, and there are at least three things you can do which might help. Probably the best thing to do if you want to add time into a session (which is essentially what happens if you move all the clips to the right!) is just to put the cursor where you want the extra time, and hit Shift+Delete, and you get to choose exactly how much time to add.
This generally works fine, but if you put the cursor in the middle of an existing track when you do this, it will split that too - although it's easy to join those up again. For instance, if you have a BG FX track, say, and a load of other voice files you want to move over, then you will have to repair the FX track afterwards.
The other thing (and this is what I do) is that when you've got a load of files which are all relatively in the correct position, you group them. As long as none of the files is locked in time, then you are able to pick up the group as a whole, and shift it around.
As for grabbing groups of files though - well, this is possible, but there's a slight caveat. Select the Move/Copy Clip tool (with the little crosshair), and if you left-click and drag it over your clips, it will select any clips within the dragged area. And that's the problem; if any part of a clip falls under the drag area, even though most of it's outside it, it is included in your drag, and if you don't want it, you have to deselect it with a Ctrl+mouseclick afterwards. Ideally there ought to be an option to only select clips that fall entirely under the cursor, but unfortunately at present there isn't.
    Hope that's some help.

  • Moving bookmarks to sd cards?

I am curious if I move the firefox for android app to a sd card would my bookmarks move to the sd card as well.

so, If I use the addon it moves it all over, but I can't access it. I am assuming the addon can be used to move it back over say if I did a back up and restore on my device?
Also is their a way to access the bookmarks thru the file manager built into my tablet, I ask because I hate the sync system it doesn't work, screws all my bookmarks up and deletes some misplaces others.
I know i can import bookmarks from other browsers but The browser needs a export option,
hell the area for importing is labeled export and import.

  • Maps moved bookmark

Has anyone else noticed that Maps sometimes moves a bookmark?  I placed a bookmark on the map where the purple pin is shown on the screen shot.  I added the bookmark to my contacts.  When I later got directions to the contact on my iPhone, the location changes to where the red pin is shown on the screen shot.
From the best I can tell, Maps is trying to use postal addresses and not GPS coordinates.  As you can probably guess, I'm trying to mark a boat ramp -- it has a GPS location, but not a postal address.

With the current version of the software, this does not seem to be possible. Hopefully, Apple will Include that possibility along with ability to clear only specific recent searches, while allowing saving others for future use.
Despite its shortcomings,Maps proved its worthiness to me on a recent trip to Harrisburg, Hershey & Lancaster PA. Originally I was going to wait until after vacation to buy iPhone ... I am glad I got it before, or I might still be sitting near some corn field in Amish territory!

  • Moving bookmarks from old Vista drive to primary XP drive C in wifes computer

Main computer with Vista lost the motherboard. The hard drive is fine. I have it installed in my wife's Vista computer. I need all my book marks out of the old hard drive but can't find them. I tried to use the profile program but it only will find the profile on the main C drive. My Vista Hard drive is now the F drive in this computer.

  • How can I get bookmarks moved to a new laptop when my old broken laptop can no longer launch Firefox but does still allow access to all of the Profile files such as places.sqlite

My old laptop appears to be a victim of Bit Rot according to an IT person who was here helping me. All of the support material I've seen so far related to moving bookmarks from one computer to another seem to assume that Firefox can be launched on the old computer (which can't be done in my case). I'd like to figure out how to use the files which may hold my extensive bookmark data while the old computer is still allowing me to access those files and save to a removable thumb drive.

Fortunately I seem to have found and still have access to the old Profile files you're mentioning but I don't know how to make use of them such that Firefox on my new computer can incorporate all the data they hold. Again, I'm not able to open Firefox on the old computer. Any ideas how to use these .sqlite files on the new computer to get myself operable how I had been w. Firefox on the old broken one?

  • Bookmarks are either duplicated ort moved to the unsorted bookmarks folder; some are deleted and older deleted ones return.

I posted before how many bookmarks are deleted, duplicated, etc. ut what I am seeing now is that many are moved to Unsorted Bookmarks, Some are still being deleted, duplicated and ones deleted months ago return (happening less now). How do I prevent Firefox from moving bookmarks to that folder without my "permission and how do I delete automated backups as of the bookmarks (which I believe may be part of the problem). Note this happens after every PC cold start, has also happened while I was looking at it and all of the usual suggestion DO NOT WORK: deleting the "places" file, running that add on that supposed to fix it, etc.: ou can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

You can try to check and repair the places database with this extension:

These did no work so please do not suggest them.
