Moving catalogs from pc to Mac

I recently converted to Mac from pc, and upgraded from LR 3.6 to LR 4 at the same time.
Apple transferred all of my pc files transferred to the Mac, and then I downloaded the LR upgrade. That may have been a mistake, as all of the 3.6 catalogs remained on the PC.  How do I get the 3.6 PC catalogs into the new version on the Mac? I'm thinking that perhaps I should uninstall LR, have Apple repeat the data migration, and then reinstall the LR 4? Or, is there another way?

Just copy the catalogs and associated preview (Lrcat and lrdata) files to  he appropriate location (normally the Pictures folder) on the Mac then double click one of the lrcat files to launch Lightroom. Since the catalogs were created in Lr3.x they'll be upgraded to Lr4 when the application launches. You can upgrade all of your Lr3.6 catalogs using the same method.
Note that if your catalogs contain many images it might be best to leave the previews behind as they'll be rebuilt on the Mac in any case.

I NEED TO SHARE MY LR CATALOGS FROM LAPTOP TO MAC AND EVEN IPAD WITH NO EXTERNAL DEVICES - I WOULD LIKE ANY EDIT I MAKE FROM ONE COMPUTER TO BE MADE ON THE OTHER - HOW DO I DO THIS ?? THANKS!!

All the info you do with your image files is stored in the Lightroom Catalog file. The Catalog file cannot be located on a network it must have a physical connection to the computer.
While the Catalog is in use a LOCK file will be temporarily placed alongside which prevents its use by any other device.

  • Moving Photoshop catalog from PC to Mac - stalls at 'backup catalog step' - just keeps spinning with no action

I am attempting to move all my Photoshop Elements catalogs from an old PC to a new Mac; followed the online instructions and made good progress converting catalogs to Elements 12 (from 6) until I got to the step of 'backing up catalogs so I can load them on an external heard drive.  That's where Photoshop stalls - just spins and no action.  Any idea how to complete this so I don't lose all those catalogs in the transition?

stop the backup and try repairing and optimizing the catalog in the catalog manager (file>manage catalogs)

  • Migrate a catalog from Windows to Mac with Lightroom 3?

    Hi there.
So here's what I've got:  Photoshop Elements 7 for Windows and Lightroom 1.4 installed on the same PC.  I am in the process of migrating to Mac.  If I upgrade from Lightroom 1.4 to 3, which as I understand is a cross-platform license, will I be able to move my catalog with me?
I am a bit of a Mac newbie, so I'm not sure if there is equal functionality between the Mac and Windows versions of Lightroom.  Clearly there is a big functionality gap the on the PSE side (no Organizer on PSE for Mac).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

They're pretty much functionally the same, but no DVD burning on 64 bit Win.
PSE Mac has a version of Bridge rather than Organiser. I'd do the catalog import on Win first, before moving it all over to Mac, as in import your PSE catalog in Lightroom. (It's not foolproof, I believe stuff gets lost-there's not full compatibility).
PSE is not cross platform, so you'll need to contact Adobe to make the switch.

  • Moving Favorites from PC to Mac

    Hello,
I'm moving favorites from IE 7 on Windows XP to Mac Leopard. Do I just move the files over and import or is there something specific regarding conversions I need to complete? Thanks.

    Hi theBigD23,
Save your Favorites in IE 7 to the desktop (or wherever you want). Use a flash drive, email the file to yourself, or any method at your disposal to get that file over to the Mac.
In Safari, choose File > Import Bookmarks. Navigate to the bookmark file from the PC and click Import.

  • Moving Playlists from PC to Mac

I've had a Dell desktop for years but just bought a MacBook Pro (love it!) but I can't find any support on transferring my playlists from PC to Mac. Any ideas? Thanks!

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Moving data from pc to mac

so im switching from pc to mac(made a post earlier with some questions) and have another question regarding moving my data.
although i could use an ipod with disk enabled, could i also just use an external hardrive?
my plan was to borrow my friends external harddrive(he uses windows btw), just connect his drive to my pc, drag and drop my folder of stuff(music, videos, docs) on it and disconnect. then get my macbook, plug in the drive, drag and drop. any potential pitfalls?
    thanks in advance!

hi, depending on how much data you have to transfer, doing it over a home network might be real slow. I tried doing it and while it worked, it just would have taken way too much time
In my case, I had tons of photos and music files that I wanted to transfer from Windows to my new MBP.
You may want to consider just purchasing an inexpensive external HDD (less than $75 for a 160GB) and do it that way or borrow one from a friend. You could even purchase one of those really inexpensive flash drives that hold up to 1GB.
    I say this becu

  • Moving itumes from pc to mac went ok, but no applicaitons.

    switching from pc to mac...
I moved my iTunes from win to mac using backup...everything seems to have worked ok, except applications. None of them would sync. So, I went to iTunes and got all apps that were free, and then they synced as expected.
The problem is 2 of the apps are not free, iDicto and iNeedStuff ($9). How do I get these back on my iPhone?
The error message was something like:
xxx apps were not installed because this iPhone is not authorized on this computer.
    Thanks
    bob

Bob, If you are using the same iTunes Store account, you can download the apps again without charge. Just click the "Buy" button and you will be advised that you have already purchased the app with an offer to download again for free. See this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • Moving iTunes from PC to Mac - problem...

When moving my iTunes folder from PC to Mac (via hard drive), the following error message appears: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items". Anyone come across this before?

My feeling is there isn't much you can do about it since standard things such as changing file permissions won't work if you can't write to the drive.  You could try formatting the drive to FAT so both the PC and Mac can use it (as long as you don't have any huge files).  Alternatively, if you have a smaller flash drive formatted FAT you can move the library in groups of folders as long as you make sure it all goes back together properly again.
Here's my standard post on moving libraries:
If you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Longer answers if for any reason you do not think all library files are inside your iTunes folder (changed preferences settings at some point):

Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.

  • Moving catalog from Lr 3.6 to Lr 5.6

Hi all. This is my first post here, after joining Creative Cloud and start using Lr 5.6.
My catalog is about 1Tb and right now is in an external RAID system (WD) and I'm working with a MacBookPro and a NEC Spectraview Reference 2690.
I started using Lr 5.6 with some test catalogs and everything seems to be OK.
My question is : Should I take any specific action before moving my catalog from 3.6 to 5.6??
I remember when I moved from Lr2 to Lr3 that i did some optimization and other actions before importing the catalog to Lr3, but right now I'm not able to remember.........
Any advice from you before such a huge amount of photos will be really appreciated.
    Best,

When you open a lower version catalog in a newer version of Lightroom it will covert the catalog and preserve the older version.
There are no special steps to take.
A catalog can be optimized at any time upon shutdown or launch.

  • Moving iTunes from PC to Mac OSX possible?

    Hi,
My friend has bought a new Mac with OSX 10.5 and wants me to move his iTunes from his PC to Mac, now I can get all the music copied over as I have set the network up and can browse to both computers. iTunes is installed on the Mac but empty, what is the next step? On the PC I usually just hold down the shift key and load it and tell iTunes where my music is.

These pages may be of some help:

Don't forget by the way if your friend has purchased any tracks from the iTunes Music Store to deauthorise his old PC if he's disposing of it so it doesn't use up one of his 5 allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
