Moving Catalogues to a Different Folder.

In backed up and restoring a PSE6 catalogue from an XP based PC to my Vista based laptop I chose the Restore to New Location / Maintain Existing Folder Structure option and both the catalogue files and the picture files were successfully created in my main Pictures folder. The new catalogue was recognised in PSE6 and all files and thumbnails seemed to be connected. However, in retaining the original folder structure I had inadvertently created a lot of unwanted subfolders from the old XP address and the cataloguing info was not in the default /Program Data location where my other catalogues reside. I therefore decided to first move the cataloguing files, and tried to use the Catalogue / Move command for the purpose, thinking, erroneously as it turned out, that this would move only the cataloguing files, and I could then eliminate the unwanted subfolders in my picture file structure by a subsequent drag and drop approach in PSE6.
I am not aware of having given any advice in the Catalogue / Move process as to a destination folder for the move, as it never asked, but it seems as though both cataloguing and picture files were moved by the command to the Vista default /Program Data location. I'm not sure whether I asked to make the catalogue available to all users or just myself when asked, but think it was probably the latter. The move resulted in all of the thumbnails in the catalogue becoming disconnected from the picture files, and I then carried out a Reconnect All process which has worked for all but a handful of files.
The problem is that whilst I can see the picture folders I've moved in the Folder View within PS6, and most seem connected to the catalogue thumbnails, I cannot find them, or indeed the /Program Data folder that they sirt inside, by searching outside of PS6. It is as if they don't exist, or are hidden from Windows Explorer. All of the old picture folders have also disappeared when I look at the Folders View within PS6, except for those that contained the few picture files that are now disconnected (and these are greyed out). I could try to drag and drop the new folders back to Pictures within PS6, or try to delete the catalogue and files entirely, and begin the restore process again, but I don't want to worsen or confuse the situation further until I understand what is going on.
Help!

Are you sure you have enabled viewing 'hidden files' in the explorer ?

Yes, moving folder trees by dragging them in folder view to 'shortcut' unwanted subfolder stages is ok. I don't like it very much because I don't know what would happen if you had a power shortage during the process... But if you have still the backup, that would be good. For a big catalog, be patient, but there would be no need to reconnect.

• Tryed moving music to a different folder in my external, but they disappeared...?

So I've been trying to organize my music lately, and have it all on my Seagate external hard drive. I was trying to move a large chunk of folders with music in them to a different folder, and when I dragged it over, it tried to start moving them when a message along the lines of "Cannot move files to this folder because "" already exsists." (It specifically said "") I clicked OK, assuming that it would all have stayed in the same folder it was originally in, but when I went to go look for it, most of my music was gone. Now the only folders showing up in my externals music folder are A and B artists.
Now, the part that REALLY throws me off, is that when I open iTunes, I can play all my music that I could originally, and it looks like the space is still being taken up on my external. I assumed I could find my music by clicking "show in finder" but it wont show where the music is. All I see is this in the finder:
And nothing will show up.
Now, I was bummed when I couldn't find my music, as I was assuming it simply got erased somehow. The fact that it is still there is just plain confusing to me.
Thankfully, I have most of my music backed up on a friends hard drive, so I haven't completely lost everything, BUT I'm still incredibly curious as to where this stuff went. I also don't want to add a ton of double files onto my hard drive and take up lots of extra room.
Sorry for the long winded question, I just figured the more information, the better.

Get info on the drive.  What format?  FAT drives may be behave erratically for heavy-duty use of the kind you are doing. It's okay to leave a flash drive FAT formatted for light use but for heavy-duty file transfer I think you can encounter issues.
iTunes does not look at files directly.  It maintains a database (library.itl) of the files in its collection.  When you play a track it looks up where that file is located and goes and plays the file in that location.  If you manually move a file or folder used by iTunes that database is no longer correct and you get broken links ( ! ).  If you want to move files or folders with iTunes you have to let iTunes do it.  Since iTunes is organizing your library there isn't much flexibility in what you can do other than move the whole collection to a different folder by changing the media location preference in preferences.

Hi
Sounds like you may have moved the RMX library folder?
Is RMX fully updated (for Lion)?
Check your hard drives for a file called SAGE:
It (or an alias of it) is normally found in the <USER>:Library:Application Support:Spectrasonics.
Note that on Lion, the <User> Library is 'hidden'... quickest way to get there is to hold down Option (Alt) whilst using the Finder:Go menu

• Windows don't see my Sound Blaster card after moving it to a different PCI sl

Hi there,
MY CARD IS THE:
Sound Blaster XF-I Xtreme Music
==============================
MY PROBLEM IS AS FOLLOWS
==============================
My sound blaster card was working properly during year, but... when I changed it to a different PCI slot inside my PC (the card was removed from one PCI slot to a different one)... then Windows Vista is unable to find the card, and is not listed in the device manager... so I cannot play sound, because the card is not recognized by Windows Vista
In Windows Vista, in the device manager, all devices seems to work fine. I dont find yellow triangles neither question marks. The problem is the Sound Blaster XF-I Extreme Music card dont appear in the sound, video and game controllers list.
If I try to run the Creative Console... says it don't detect my card.
All this happened when I moved it to a different PCI slot, before this, the sound card was working fine
Consequently, I don't have sound and cannot play music.
A friend told me that perhaps it could be a very good idea uninstall the drivers and installing them again... but also I DON'T KNOW HOW TO UNINSTALL THE DRIVERS, because when I was searching in the control panel, programs... I don't see any reference to "creative drivers" or "sound blaster drivers"
The only I see are three entries...
Creative Sound Blaster properties...
The console (Creative Sound Blaster console)
And the initiator (Creative Console Initiator)
But I dont find any reference to the drivers... :smileysurprised:
===> Please, could you tell me how to solve the problem, to allow Windows Vista detect my sound card and again I can have audio?
===> Please, could you tell me how to uninstall the drivers?
Remember that Creative Recommend to uninstall the drivers the following:
To uninstall the driver, do the following:
Click Start -> All Programs -> Control Panel.<
Double-click the Device Manager icon.<
Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers option.<
Right-click the Creative SB X-Fi option, and select Uninstall.
The Confirm Device Uninstall dialog box appears.<
Select the Delete the driver software for this device option.
Note: This check box must be selected to avoid reinstallation issues.<
Click the OK button.<
Restart your computer.<
But also remember that I don't have that entry in the device manager, because Windows is not recognizing the card... so the situation is I have the drivers loaded in my Windows Vista... but I don't have that entry in the device manager list... so consequently I don't know where are the drivers to uninstall them, and again, install them... so I cannot uninstall and doing a clean installation afterwards.
===> Please, could you tell me if the proper drivers for my card are the following (in Spanish)

Lately, the creative file containing the drivers for my model was this:

Can any one tell me how can I move to a different folder pictures, that I've cloned, without them staying aggregated? They all come together to the other folder and I don't want that… thanks

There's more to it than that.
Folders in Aperture do not hold Images.  They hold Projects and Albums.  You cannot put an Image in a Folder without putting it in a Project or an Album inside that Folder.
The relationship between Projects and Images is special:  every Image must in a Project, and can be in only one Project.
Images can be in as many Albums you want.  Putting an Image in an Album does not move it from the Project that holds it.
You can make as many Versions from a Master as you want.
What you want to do may appear simple to you, but it still much adhere to how Aperture works.  I still can't tell exactly what you are trying to do (specifically: Images don't live in Folders; moving an Image from a Folder is non-sensical).
It can be very confusing (and frustrating) to get going with Aperture -- but it does work, and can be enormously helpful.  If you haven't, take a look at the video tutorials on Apple's Aperture support site.
I feel as though I haven't helped you much -- but we need to be using the same names for interface items in order to get anything done -- and my sense is that you still haven't learned the names of the parts.

• Moved jpeg files to other folder, now iPhoto can't find them

I dragged/dropped some original jpeg files into a new folder to aggregate certain files together, but since they are now in a different folder iPhoto 9 can't find them. The thumbnails in iPhoto still remain, but results in the large black/grey "!" when I try to open them. I'd rather not rebuild the enormity of my entire photo library over this, so is there some other way to re-link thumbnails to files?
iTunes makes this easy with music. When I click on a file name and it can't find the file, it offers to allow me to locate the file myself, and then it re-establishes the link between the iTunes library item and the file. No problem.
How does one go about doing this in iPhoto for, say, a couple of dozen files without having to start over with an ENTIRE rebuild? I know exactly where the files are, and it seems ridiculous that iPhoto isn't equipped to track the whereabouts of an unchanged file that's simply been dragged from one folder to another.

Did you do the moving of the image file in the Finder or do you have a reference library as asked by Larry? In either case moving the files is a recipe for disaster as you've found out. You must either move the files back to their original locations or try to get those photos back into iPhoto as follows:
1 - Find the folder you moved the files into and COPY it to the Desktop.
2 - in iPhoto delete the photos that you're having the problems with as you normally would even though you can't see see them. Also delete all the photos that are in the folder you moved the other files into.
3 - drag the folder on the Desktop into iPhoto to import them as one event. If you get a duplicate warning I'd let it import the duplicate and use Duplicate Annihilator to find them so you can cull out the duplicate you don't want.
Other than that you might have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

• I would like to move the Tv show folder to an external HD. Can I do this without moving the entire iTunes music folder?

I would like to move the TV Shows folder from my iMac's HD to an external HD to free up some space. Can I do this without moving the entire iTunes Library folder? If so, can my other devices like iPads and Apple TV find the moved TV shows folder?

All kinds of things are possible with iTunes, but few of them are easy.  Yes, you can isolate TV shows on a different drive.  The degree of complexity depends upon how much work and learning you are interested in doing.  The easiest solution is to delete them all from iTunes but do not let iTunes delete the actual media files.  Then go to the folder where TV shows are located and copy that folder to a different drive.  Now hold down the option key and drag them back to iTunes so it adds them again.  Using the option key means the file doesn't get copied to iTunes' main media folder.  However, since these are being added as new files it means you risk losing some information entered about them such as personal ratings, date added, date last played, etc.  There are ways of retaining this data but that's where you really have to learn how to do workarounds with iTunes.
I have never seen an AppleTV, nor used an iPhone but my understanding is these devices do not directly use the files, they do so through iTunes.  As long as the entries can be found in iTunes then they should be accessible by other devices.

• LoadMovie in different folder

Hey everyone.  I've made a menu that will load the file that has my swf array in it.  It was working fine when I kept the menu file and the swf array file in the same folder.  However, it was starting to look crowded, so I moved the menu file into a different folder.  Now when I link the menu file to the swf array file, it doesn't work.  I keep getty error messages on my output tab.  This is what I have:
loadMovieNum("EZSmartStand/StandMain.swf", 50);
I have that on a button that when clicked, it should take the user to the StandMain.swf file, which is my swf array file.  It loads the file, but then my array file won't load the first movie.  I get this message:
Error opening URL 'file:///Macintosh%20HD/Users/trevor/Desktop/EZWay%20Instructional%20Videos%202011%20copy /SmartStand.swf'
SmartStand.swf is the first array that is supposed to play.  It's almost like the swf is just 'quitting' because there's too much to load.  It first has to go through the folder called EZSmartStand, then it loads the StandMain.swf, and in that StandMain.swf, it's then supposed to load the first swf in the array, which is SmartStand.swf.
Does anyone know what to do?  I'd really appreciate help, and I'll give helpful and correct answers.

the paths to your swfs are all relative to the _level0 swf embedding html file.

Hi Barry,
http://www.phespirit.info/montypython/four_yorkshiremen.htm
As a parody of that Monty Python skit:
I had an original Apple that I had to plug into a television screen as a monitor. Programs had to be written in BASIC, but I could plot a graph long before MS got out of DOS and function keys. Then I had a Mac Plus with a single floppy disc drive that had me playing "toaster" to swap discs. Then a Mac SE - MacDraw, MacPaint, Hypercard, Word-for-Mac. Luxury! Then a Mac Classic (black and white display, but I swear I could see colours in the fill patterns). Then (sigh) forced to MS by my employer. Finally, my very own MacBook.
Luxury!

Unless you are an Apple developer, the only way I know is to submit feedback via https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
Here's the feedback I just submitted:
Subject: Library organization bug in iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows x64
I Have Feedback About: Software or Hardware Compatibility
Comments:
Hi,
I have my iTunes library organized into subfolders (Music, Movies, TV Shows, and so on). When I add new video media to iTunes, either by "drag and drop," or placing a file into the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder, the new media file is placed in the "Home Videos" folder. Then, after changing the metadata using the "Get Info" mechanism, the metadata is updated; however, the file is not moved out of the "Home Videos" folder. A new folder is created properly under "Movies" or "TV Shows" (depending on the type), yet iTunes isn't taking the final step of moving the file into that folder.
I've validated this behavior on two different Windows systems.
iTunes 12.0.1.26 running on OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) moves the files properly, so this issue looks to be specific to the Windows version.

• Archiving  file in different folder in sender file adapter

Hi,
I have a requirement in witch i have to pick 7 different file from seven different folder.
for this I am using advance selection tab and defining all the other folder path.
but my problem is I have to archive the different file in different folder .
For exm..
/folder1/file1.txt need to be archive in /archive_filder1/file1.txt
/folder2/file2.txt need to be archive in /archive_filder2/file2.txt
/folder3/file3.txt need to be archive in /archive_filder3/file3.txt
can any one tell me that how to  define the dynamic  archive folder path??.
regards,
Navneet

Hi Navneet
In File Access parameters --> Target Directory
Use this type of Directory name
\XIDEV_STORES\%store%\sapoutbound
here %store% will be changed accordingly
e.g. if file will come for store 001 then this %Store% will be replaced by 001 and file will be placed in this 001 folder and if file will come for store 002 then this %Store% will be replaced by 002 and file will be placed in this 002 folder over FTP.
For to achieve this Go to Advanced tab
For Variable Substitution check mark Enable
Now speciofy the parameter values for Variable Name and Reference
Under Vriable name specify = store
Under Reference specify = payload:WP_PLU02,1,IDOC,1,EDI_DC40,1,RCVPRN,1     -
You have to give full path name here that where this store variable is located into IDOC.
Hope this example will help you

• How do I set a different folder than the Windows MyDocuments/Downloads folder? I do not use 'My Documents' at all, all my saved files go to other hard drives for storage, and I do not want to bother with the My Docs route. I used to have downloads set to

I want to set a different folder from the My Documents/Downloads folder for Firefox to put everything I download, like I used to have it. I recently rebuilt my computer and reinstalled everything from WinXP to security software to Firefox, and I cannot find any options anywhere to set a different folder like I used to have it... with the same software, other than it being a newer iteration of Ff. So tell me, am I losing my mind so bad that I just can't remember how I did it before, or have things changed so much that what I want is no longer possible? Please, someone tell me how to set it to do what I want, I can't stand to have what I do on my computer dictated by programmers who only think that they know what people want. If that sounds a little angry, I apologize with the disclaimer that I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and therefore cannot handle frustration... and this kind of thing frustrates me to the point of rage.

Tools > Options - General tab = Downloads
Set your preferences there.
