Moving cells independent of rows, ie delete cell and move others up.
This has to be easy but i can't figure it out. I have a document with 4 columns by 50 rows. All of the cells are independent of the rows they are in and from time to time i need to delete a cell and move the cells below it up. Its easy in excel, you just highlight the cell and it asks "move up" or "move down". I can't seem to find anything comparable in numbers. I seem to be only able to delete entire rows which would delete cells in other columns that I need. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

It's pretty easy in Numbers too, but it's not the same. Let's say you want to move all the cells below a certain cell up one row to eliminate that single cell. Select all the cells that you want to move, Edit > Mark for Move, click on the cell you want to eliminate, Edit > Move.

I am using Dreamweaver cc 2014 and after applying css styles to my fluid grid layout I lose the resize,delete, duplicate an move up/ down ability.
For this reason I cannot build new pages by copying one page to create another.
I have a third style sheet that I use for the navigation styles and h1 -h6 ect. tags. and I am also using a css drop menu, can one of these be the problem?
The css menu I am using has the following script - I goes at the bottom of the html page. Before the closing body tag,

This implies there is something broken in your FluidGrid Layout CSS file. It could be something simple like a missing semi-colon or curly bracket. Run your code through the W3C validation tools below to check for errors. NOTE: ignore reported errors in boilerplate.css

I have updated my mail but when I try to import my old messages back I am told That I do not have enough space I then deleted a number of files and movies and still got a warning message of not enough space
Did you empty the trash (click on Finder) after deleting the files/movies?

Computer will not boot up to administrator page for sign in and password. It goes to Guest page where I can browse the internet with Yahoo, but can not connect to Safari. It does not show Dock with Applications at all; therefore I can not access network settings or any applications to get out of this mode. I have disconnected every thing connected to the mini-mac and left over night before reconnecting. Same problem as before; then used all F buttons to try to recover factory settings, again nothing help ! Used various combinations of Escape, Delete, Control and Alternate keys. Held D key down while restarting computer and nothing has worked for me at this time. Any suggestions would be appreciated at this time!

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist

Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:

Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
Moving cells and cell outlines together?
i have a very long spreadsheet and would like to get rid of a DASHED BOLD outline around the cells.
is there some method for getting rid of the dashed bold outline as it runs through 800 rows and i don't want to have to redo all the sections to get rid of it.
i have tried moving the cell - one single DASHED BOLD line still runs vertically through my spreadsheet.
i also tried deleting the remaining DASHED BOLD line but this just deletes the whole line so it looks like two cells are together.
i think i am out of luck with this and have to redo all the formatting in all the sections below is that right?hi jerry. thanks. i think with a lot of your (and other) help i have wrestled this into shape over here and hope to finish this weekend.
can i just ask you a little more on this one? my problem is that i have a series of /sections/ that go vertically downward so that lower in your screenshot i may have cells that are outlined in black and in bold and in 3pt width. so in the case here i would be selecting the Column and telling it to go back to THIN because when i deleted the Column that had a bold and dashed and 3pt outline it /left/ this outline in place for the cell next to it.
however, if i now tell the whole column to go back to thin, this means that wherever i had THICK outline inbetween the sections in this column or wherever i had no outline between columns it would now be thin.
i mean, this is very hard to explain but i am positive that the time i spend on the outlines in this spreadsheet is 3X the amount of time i actually spent working on the spreadsheet because i was constantly having to go through 800 cells in 18 sections and REFORMATTING something that got lost or something that could not be fixed (or copied) in a single or multiply selectable way.
also, when i reformat a cell do i almost always have to select the cell, select the outline are to be affected, select the linetype, select the width AND select the color? or is there some STYLE functionality i should start using or some DEFAULT SETUPS that i can use for this instead?
even SIMPLY being able to multiple select and do a format outline for a cell would be a huge improvement for me. am i missing something and you CAN multiply select to do outlines or maybe i am misunderstanding somehow that numbers has some really smart feature i am not understanding and telling a whole column to go back to thin will only affect the areas that are dashed and bold and it will leave alone the cells that are solid outline bold or no outline at all?
seems to me like the program is 25% finished in some respects and 50% finished in other respects and 95% finished in different areas... -
IFilter 9 64-bit deletes files and moves them into idividual folders
Our fire department scanned thousands of documents using Adobe Capture and stored them on a Windows Server 2008 R2. We then installed iFilter 9 64-bit so Windows Search could make these documents searchable. The second day iFilter was installed I noticed some unknown folders in the root of c: with names such as A9R2f4-115f67e8. By the third day these had grown to thousands of folders, each with one PDF document in it. I recognized the files as the ones that had be captured with Adobe Capture and checked their original location and found the files missing. It appeared that in indexing the files Windows Search with iFilter was moving each file into an individual folder. I removed iFilter and the problem stopped. Luckily I had a backup and was able to restore the files to their original location.
Months later I installed a new server at a different location. Thinking this was possible a conflict with another program or service on the original server I copied the adobe documents onto this new and clean server and installed iFilter 9 64-bit. Again, the first day things look fine but on the second day the folders once again started showing up in the root of C:, again I removed iFilter 9 and the problem went away.
This would appear to be a bug in the program since it has happened to two server, one a brand new Dell R710 with nothing on it except the server software and Adobe iFilter and the PDF files that were captured using Adobe Capture. I have called Adobe and I was told they do not provide support for iFilter other than this forum. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate the help.Erwin,
I was not able to systematically examine this issue, because it occurred on a production system and, of course, I uninstalled the Adobe iFilters as soon as I read that they may delete pdf files. Before the uninstallation I noticed the AR9 folders appearing on c:\ and moved them from time to time to another folder. Using the search function inside this folder, I found that all files were present in duplicate at least. I concluded, that after moving the AR9 folders they were recreated containing the same files. Consequently, these files cannot have been deleted. Searching for the origin of these files I found that they were part of pdf portfolios, therefore my conclusion that they are part of the indexing mechanism of the portfolios. What I have not done (and what I am not going to do since it is a production system) is to fill a folder with pdfs and track what is happening to the files.
In case of my server, I think that the iFilters did not delete any files. Of course I cannot say what happens on other systems. I am definitely not going to reinstall the iFilters before knowing what they a really doing to the files.

Why when i delete photos and movies do i not get the free space back on my hard drive?
I'm desparately trying to free up hard drive space. I have deleted unwanted photos and videos, emptied iphoto trash, rebooted and emptied regular trash but there is no corresponding increase in available hard drive space! Please help or the Mac gets it!!
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.

I cleaned out my calendars, deleted some and merged others... how do I push this to the cloud?
My subject pretty much says it all.... right now the cleaned up version is on my iMac, and I want the cleaned up version to override what I have in the cloud, and override what I have on my laptop and iPhone.
How do I do this? MobileMe sync was much more straight forward in this regard.
Thanks!It ended up being a bit more complicated than that because the iMac was connected to iCloud, just not syncing for some reason, so if I disconnected it everything on my iMac would be deleted.
So here's what I did:
I backed up each individual calendar from my iMac
disconnected iCloud on my iMac (which deleted everything, but not my backups, of course)
deleted all the calendars on iCloud (after backing up what I had on iCloud just in case, even though it was the pre-edited data I wanted to overwrite, and which frankly was a pain in the butt, Apple!)
recreated the same (but now empty) calendars in iCloud. Those empty calendars synced with my iMac.
I merged the backed up data with the empty iMac calendars
then this all synced with iCloud and was propagated across all my devices
I have to say MobileMe was much easier, and I had much more control. Apple take note. -
At the top of my Mozilla home page, it lists the current URL site, such as http://www.safeco.com, I am on plus the others in the drop down box. How do I delete them. Highlighting and hitting delete does not work.

If they have then they are bookmarks. You can remove them if you open that link and click the star to open the Edit This Bookmark dialog and click the Remove button in that dialog.

Open the keyboard system preference and go through the settings to make sure everything looks ok - and you can learn from looking at it rather than doing random things. Then go to the International system preference and set the languages that you want to use, etc.

Moving cells.vi 10 KBYou don't actually have to run the VI. Just open 'Moving cells' and type something into column 11. Then just watch it float away. Change the justification to Right or Left and the behavior stops.
