Moving Center of a Radial Gradient

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is possible but I thought I'd ask.  I'm using gradient overlay on an object.  I have it set for a radial gradient.  However it places the center of the gradient in the middle of the object.  Is there a way to adjust this so that the center of a radial gradient would be at say.. the bottom of an object?
I have tried using the drag method instead of gradient overlay but can never seem to get the affect I want.
Any suggestions?

While trying to make the gradient, try making a shorter line or starting at a new location before where you want the gradient to appear.
Also if you make the gradient on its own layer, you should be able to move it to where you want it.
I hope that someone can give you better advice.
Edit:
Thanks tfkelly42, i was posting when you were and figured i would at least get him started.

  • Radial Gradients within individual editable characters?

    Is it possible to have an "editable" line of text in InDesign where each character has a radial gradient fill of its own, instead of the radial gradient consuming the entire line of text?
    Thanks!

    I think it depens on what you mean. I can apply a differnt gradient to each character in a line of text, but the gradient always seems to be applied as if it is coverint the entire frame, so that if I apply the same gradient in differnt lines the text takes on different values depending on how close or far it is from the center of the frame.
    Frankly I think this is a bug, and I'm pretty sure I reported it a couple of years ago, but if you agree it won't hurt to report it again, though perhaps requsting a feature would be more likely to get a change. Same form: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • What's focus-angle and  focus-distance in CSS radial-gradients?

    Reading the reference ( http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2.0/api/javafx/scene/doc-files/cssref.html#typepaint ) I found these two values you can set in a radial-gradient definition:
    radial-gradient([ *focus-angle* <angle>, ]? [ *focus-distance* <percentage>, ]? [ center <point>, ]? radius [ <length> | <percentage> ] [ [ repeat | reflect ], ]? <color-stop>[, <color-stop>]+)
    Could someone enlighten me what they mean? I wrote a little tool for visual definition of Gradients (http://88.198.17.44/blog/2012/04/13/it-works-fxexperience-tools-gradienteditor-plugin/) as an extension to FXExperience Tools, and I'd like to include it if it makes sense.
    Thanks
    Toni

    focus-angle and focus-distance are together used to determine the focal point of the radial pattern.

    Assuming you did this with a Fill Layer, double-click the thumbnail in the Layers panel to bring up the Gradient Fill dialog, see to it that the [ ] Align with layer checkbox is set, and (while the Gradient Fill dialog is still up) try dragging the gradient to where you want it on the main display.  Then [ OK ] out of the Gradient Fill dialog.

  • Applying multiple fills with radial gradient to one shape - Illustrator CC

    Hi, I am following this tutorial (http://vectips.com/tutorials/how-to-create-realistic-vector-leaves-in-illustrator/comment- page-1/#comment-744800) and I am around step 6/7 where I need to add 3 new fills each with a different radial gradient, and then apply them to different areas of the leaf to create a variety of gradial tones.
    However, once I have made the new fill I press 'G' to bring up the gradient tool, but when I click inside the leaf area my new fill disappears and the previous radial gradient fill I made is highlighted instead. Hope this makes sense, I just want to apply a slight light green gradient to the corner of the leaf as the tutorial describes in 'Step 7'.
    Please help!

    I have this layer selected and the Gradient tool ready
    I go to click on the right side of the green area to apply the gradient tool...
    The fill I want to use disappears, and the previous fill is selected instead.
    I will point out (if it isn't obvious already) that I AM NOT experienced with Illustrator, but I want to understand why this isn't working.

  • Why are my radial gradients getting rasterized when I save SVGs?

    I am using Illustrator CC 2014, for some reason I can't seem to save icons that have radial gradients as SVGs. The gradients are getting rasterized. I could do this no problem with previous versions of illustrator.

    The same files? The exact same gradients?
    Can you post a screenshot of those gradients?

  • Radial gradient corrupted during conversion from EPS10 into bigger JPEG

    I use Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS4 extended.
    recently came scross rasteirizing of radial gradient when convert from AI CS4 file to EPS10 file and then buyer converts it into big 4000x4000 pxls JPEG. Never experienced that before.
    It is visible only after conversion EPS into big JPEG.
    Linear gradients are all smooth after conversion but radial is corrupted.
    I clean my illustration before saving as EPS.
    When I save my illustration AICS4 as EPS10,  I check:
    -preview-transparent;
    -transparency preset : high resolution 100%,
         -convert all strokes in outline,
         -convert text in outline (if I have it in my illustration);
    -include CMYK PostScript in RGB file,
    -Compatible Gradient and Gradient Mash Printing.
    I check then EPS file for rasteirizing : window-links.
    No sign of any rasteirization. All nice and smooth.
    here, how looks corrupted radial gradient after conversion to big JPEG from small EPS10. Note, that on the bottom of image  linear gradient is almost ok.
    What I am doing wrong?
    When I upsize my AI CS4 file to 4000x4000pxls and then convert to EPS10, and then into JPEG of the same size, - Radial gradient is smoother, almost perfect. But the size of of EPS file is too big and out of acceptable limits.
    Jim

    Thank you for reply.
    Now I see that I did not explain it properly.
    Sorry for that.
    I need to provide my illustration saved as EPS10 with small Jpeg for preview via internet to the client, the way he requires to have it. I do not know why he wants it that way.
    After receiving my EPS file with small Jpeg, he is making from that EPS10 file a big JPEG for  his needs. It is what he wants.
    When he is convertin' EPS10 file into big JEPEG, radial gradient becomes corrupted.
    I followed his steps to try to undertstand what went wrong and got the same corrupted radial gradient in JPEG file, as you see on provided image.
    What I want to know is how to accomplish what he wants without loosing quality.
    Could you tell me, please, how to save illustration as EPS10 in Illustrator CS4 proper way.
    Thank you.

  • How to drag out a series of radial gradients on one layer?

    Please pardon me, I am new to Photoshop. I am following this tutorial I got on the net and I have come unstuck on a stage which says,
    "Drag out a series of purple to transparent radial gradients on the "highlight purple" layer".
    I am failing to drag out more than one gradient on the layer. so my question is, how do I drag out more than one gradient on the same layer???

    If the Gradient is set to fade several Gradient Tool applications should be no problem.
    Or one could set the Blend Mode for the Gradient Tool to something else than Normal depending on the Gradient.

    All of my featherd brushes come out as solid circles instead of an even radial gradient.  How can I fix this problem?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
    Perhaps you have the pencil tool selected instead of the brush tool?

  • InDesign radial gradients non-circular

    Hi there, I'm having a long-term issue with radial gradients in InDesign (I'm currently using CS6). For the last 3 versions I've not been able to create radial gradients and apply them to an object, and keep them perfectly circular – unless they're applied to a perfectly circular object.
    If I try to apply a radial gradient to a rectangle, for instance, it automatically fills the object with the gradient stretched to the shape of the object. So, it behaves more like a gradient mesh than a true radial gradient. I cannot find a setting, keyboard shortcut or menu option ANYWHERE that sounds like it might affect this functionality. The gradient tool in the tool pallet simply readjusts the scaling of the gradient, but retains the same incorrect proportions of the blend. In my gradient dialog box, I have neither "location" nor "Angle" available for me to adjust.
    It is seriously driving me INSANE. I've wasted hours on the internet trying to find something but to be honest I don't even know what terms to search for, everything I've thought of turns up the same entry-level useless grandient "tips" from Adobe.
    It IS possible to have a cicular radial gradient inside a non-circular object, but my computer seems to have found a "default setting" which uses gradient swatches incorrectly.

    @Georgina – It seems that it depends on the aspect ratio of the object:
    1. If the object is in vertical format ("portrait"), the applied circular gradient is squeezed.
    2. If the object is in horizontal format ("landscape"), the applied circular gradient stays circular (but is cut at top and bottom)
    I think this behaviour is implemented by design (a.k. a feature; not a bug).
    Was it different in any other version of InDesign before?
    I don't think so. Just tested in InDesign CS3. Same behaviour than in CS5.5.
    What can we do about it?
    1. Work with nested objects.
    Construct a circle or a square, apply the radial gradient to it, cut/paste inside that object to a "portrait" rectangle.
    2. Start with a horizontal format, apply the radiant gradient, rotate the object by 90°.

  • In the camera raw filter I do not have the radial gradient filter

    Using Windows, the camera raw filter version is 8.4.0.199.  There is no radial gradient filter icon, nor radial filter.  The gradient filter available will not convert to the radial filter.  Why?

    CS6 is not CC, not by a long shot.
    CS6 is Photoshop 13.x, while CC is Photoshop 14.x.  They're one major release apart.
    If you're seeing it as a true Filter, then you're looking at Photoshop 14.x, aka Photoshop CC.

  • Problem using Radial Gradient tool in Creative Suite CS4.

    I have pasted on a separate layer a circular photo of a couple's head and shoulders onto a woodland photo, and want to make the sides of it gradiently transparent using the Radial Gradient tool. The problem I have is that it makes all of the photo gradiently transparent.
    If I use the Linear Gradient tool it works fine, but only on one part and I can't add it to other parts of the photo.
    Am I using the right tool for the job, and if I am, where am I going wrong?
    Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    here I send 2 versions, one is the hand done one as I mentioned, before, re mask then use black brush, the second is the circle feather edge again as mentioned but I left in the layers to give you an idea too
    the first allows you more freedom to kill background as I notice the top is flat, I assume that's the edge if the original photo

  • How to increase RGB values of a radial gradient of shapes every 1 or 3 frames?

    Hello everybody. I really need help. Indeed, i would like to inrease the RGB values of my radial gradient of my shape every 1 or 3 frames. I did it manually, but its very long. So i would like to know if anyone can help me to make it with code, it's will be most efficient and fast. I've already created my shape with a radial gradient. Now i would like just to increase the RGB values of my radial gradient. Can you help me please!
    This code create my shape with a radial gradient:
    var radType:String = GradientType.RADIAL;
    var radMatrix:Matrix = new Matrix();
    radMatrix.createGradientBox(120,120);
    var tabCouleurs:Array = [0xFFFFFF, 0xAEAEAE];
    var radColours:Array = tabCouleurs;
    var radAlphas:Array = [1, 1];
    var radRatios:Array = [0, 255];
    var gradients:Sprite = new Sprite();
    gradients.graphics.beginGradientFill(radType, radColours, radAlphas, radRatios,radMatrix);
    gradients.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 120, 120);
    gradients.x = 50;
    gradients.y = 50;
    addChild(gradients);

    Not really sure what you mean by increase RGB values. But if that is what you want to do then that is what you need to do.
    clear() your graphics
    increase the values
    redraw
    Nothing particularly difficult there. What is the problem you are having?

  • Transforming a radial gradient

    There seems to be something wrong with the Scale and Free Transform tools when they are used to transform radial gradients.
    I made a circular radial gradient, grey in the middle and white at the edge.
    When I try to stretch it horizontally, only the container distorts but the gradient remains circular, producing nasty hard edges at the top and bottom.
    But if I try to stretch it vertically I get normal results. So I have to scale vertically and then rotate 90°to get what I want.
    Nothing about this in the Help files and the results are the same whether I use the Scale or the Free Transform tool.
    Has anyone else had this problem?
    CS3 by the way.

    The problem exists in CS4 as well. Here is a screen shot of what Steve reports.
