Moving Cloud-Based Chats to P2P

I wondering how I could complete this? I favor p2p because of it's extensive moderating commands for the large group chat I monitor.

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Currently 1-on-1 chats and newly created group chats are cloud based. If you have group chats created with older Skype version they might still be P2P chats.
Group video calls are "cloud based", e.g. a server is used to mix audio and stream video of participants. I'm not sure about audio only group and 1-on-1 Skype calls, but to my understanding the only cloud contribution to calling is the incoming call signalling which is perfomed by the call notification servers. Actuall calls are still P2P. You can refer to the Skype technical call info screen to verify that yourself.

    On this site there is information that states.  "This shift prompted us to move from a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) architecture for calls and messaging to a cloud-based system."
    which services have moved to cloud-based and which are still P2P? does person to person calls still remain P2P, has multi-party chat moved to cloud-based architecture?

  • Are web/cloud-based dev and apps dist the future for LV?

    The direction of software companies such as Microsoft and Adobe is that they are no longer distributing media for standalone PCs.  (we all know that if we didn't need to dist the hefty LV RTE life would be a bit easier)
    You no longer purchase specific versions of their software instead you subcribe and login to have access to the latest versions from any location.
    Examples are Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud.  Presumably the subscription arrangement for them is more profitable.
    Will this (a) be the future for LV development environment; and (b) will this make it possible for developers to adopt similar strategies for distributing their own apps?
    Currently is this something that the webservices features of LV can deal with to some degree?  I understand this is limited to a small number of concurrent users at a time?  I also understand that web-based are not exactly the same as cloud-based applications.
    Is this something NI is not moving toward since LV has traditionally been tied to fixed hardware (i.e. data acquisition) applications?
    Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing people's opinions..

    I can't speak for NI's future plans.  But I don't think a move like this would benefit much of the LabVIEW community.  I'm sure there are some that would fine a clound or web based distribution system convinient but for me many of the system I install LabVIEW, TestStand, DAQmx, XNET, and many other NI tools are offline perminently.  These computers don't get future Windows updates, or NI updates unless I make an effort to put them on the network, or bring over DVDs and external drives with updates on them.
    So as for distributing NI applications I don't think this is a good move.  They already have a subscription based approach with things like the VLA, Enterprise solutions, and SSP.  Having the user go NI.com and download the tools you want has worked, and moving to a cloud application won't really work because NI users are quite diverse.  Office 365 works because if you use office, you use the same office.  But with LabVIEW there are so many 3rd party tools and libraries that the LabVIEW you use can be very different from the one I use.
    As for distributing your own built applications I think this would be neat, but again not right for me.

  • Cloud Based DVR? Looks the same?

    So, I was on a chat earlier and they said they activated the Cloud Based DVR function on my current service.   However, nothing looks any different to me.  Still same percentage full and still unable to pause live tv. Is the capacity bigger in cloud based?  And shouldn't we be able to pasue live TV? Thanks!

    Cloud is the ability to watch your recordings on either a PC or mobile device. It doesn't have anything to do with pausing live TV
    If you are wanting to pause live TV, you would need to see if the Xi3 boxes are available in your area and swap your 3 secondary boxes for those

  • SSO with Hybrid Cloud-Based Deployments

    Hi
    I´m wondering, how SSO works with Hybrid Cloud-Based Deployments.
    I want to use Jabber for Windows with WebEx Connect and Unified Communications integration with Cisco WebEx.
    Questions:
    How can I configure Jabber for Windows to use SSO with WebEx Connect after Client-Installation?
    I´ve read, that SSO username with WebEx Connect will be [email protected] Correct?
    I´ve read, that I have to create a jabber-config.xml with a follows to enforce Jabber for Windows to use the Webex-Connect login credentials also for Phone Services. Correct?
    <CUCM>     <PhoneService_UseCredentialsFrom>presence</PhoneService_UseCredentialsFrom>   </CUCM>
    If this is correct, Jabber for Windows will use [email protected] to authenticate with CUCM, but CUCM would need only the username without the domain. From my point of view, Jabber for Windows will not be able to authenticate with CUCM for Phone Services.
    Any thoughts?
    thank you
    Tino

    Hi Maqsood
    Thanks for your info. I´ve tested the "PhoneService_UseCredentialsFrom" attribute in my hybrid deployment and it seems, that it effects the jabber also in this scenario: the credentials form in the jabber options menu are not displayed.
    My understanding of the admin guide is, that it should work:
    Authentication in Hybrid Cloud-Based Deployments
    If the client authentication credentials are the same as the voicemail service credentials on Cisco Unity Connection, you can specify the VoicemailService_UseCredentialsFrom parameter in the Cisco Jabber for Windowsconfiguration file. This parameter uses the client authentication credentials to access voicemail services. As a result, Cisco Jabber for Windows users do not need to enter their credentials for voicemail services in the client.
    You should ensure that the sign in credentials and voicemail service credentials are the same for the Cisco Jabber for Windows users. If you set this parameter, the Voicemail section is not available on the Phone accounts tab in the Options window.
    thanks,
    Tino

  • How do I create a UDL for a Cloud-based Database like Amazon ?

    I have been using UDL connections to SQL Server without any issues.
    I was just asked to look in to Cloud-based databases, but I'm not sure ho to create a connection to the databases once they have been created.
    Has anyone done anything like this?
    If so, do you have an example the you can share?
    Keith

    Unless the cloud based database you are interested in does provide an ODBC and/or OLE/ADO driver there is no way to connect to this database through the LabVIEW Database Toolkit or any other of the Database Toolkits out there that can use an UDL.
    However if you talk specifically about a service like Amazon RDS then this is based on a database engine of MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle SQL or PostgreSQL depending what the client chose when setting up the DB in the Amazon cloud and as such you simply would have to use the according database driver and get the correct internet address to connect to. What address that would need to be should be most likely visible in the setup console program or as Amazon calls it the AWS Management Console.

    Hi @Sunshyn2005
    I timed-out waiting for advice, and contacted HP Support, who helped me get the printer back on the air.  While we didn't manage to root-cause it, in the course of trying various things, the tech disabled Norton 360's firewall, which then allowed connecting to the printer, and restoring print service, which remains up after re-enabling the firewall.
    The timing of the disconnection doesn't neatly corellate with any Windows updates.  My own theory is that it was caused by a 360 update, but am unable to find a smoking gun, since 360 doesn't provide update history.  The exact root-cause remains a mystery, but at least provides another thing for folks to try should they find themselves in similar straits.
    I really appreciated your hint that a Windows update might be the root cause, and your pointing out how to review the history and back-out updates: this morning, I found that Windows had installed a batch of updates overnight, and found that no browsers worked.  Using your advice, I rolled back the update, restoring browsing.
    Thanks,

  • How do I edit my Android Apps Code in dreamweaver? As well I can't find any of the App options that I keep hearing about in my cloud based Dreamweaver.....

    I already have an app that I paid someone to make but I needed to make some changes to the code and wanted to do it in Dreamweaver. How is it best to load my code into Dreamweaver, navigate through it, and find the code I need to change? As well my version of Dreamweaver ( It the new Cloud based ) doesn't have any of the App features. Do I need to load it differently or something?

    It really depends on how the app was developed and loaded.  DW can help with web interfaces and some parts of the app development, but depending on the complexity and language of the app you may need additional tools like Xcode (Apple) in order to modify the app.

  • Java Update 5 (1.0) breaks Java for Volano based chats

    I installed the Java Update 5 (1.0) for Leopard on my Intel based Mac mini and then was unable to enter Volano (Java applet) based chat rooms. I was forced to reinstall my system to revert to my prior version of System 10.5.8 in oder to be able to continue use the Java based Volano chats. The update that will NOT work states: "This release updates Java SE 6 to to version 1.6.0_1.5, J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_20, and J2SE 1.4.2 to 1.4.2_22."
    According to Volano developers -
    Note that Apple calls Java 5 (version 1.5) "J2SE 5.0", while it calls Java 6 (version 1.6) "Java SE 6". I think I finally have the following chart correct:
    J2SE 5.0 = Java 5 (version 1.5)
    - Available as 32-bit and 64-bit packages in Leopard
    - Removed in Snow Leopard
    Java SE 6 = Java 6 (version 1.6)
    - Available only as 64-bit packages in Leopard
    - Available as 32-bit & 64-bit packages in Snow Leopard
    In Leopard, the 32-bit Safari can run Java applets only with the 32-bit
    J2SE 5.0 support. To run applets using Java SE 6, you need to bypass
    Safari using the "appletviewer" Terminal command in Leopard, or upgrade
    to Snow Leopard where Safari can run Java SE 6.
    Volano says the possible work arounds for Leopard users (10.5.8( are:
    According to what I've read, if you have a 64-bit capable Intel processor (i.e., an Intel Core 2 Duo), the software update that you removed should have given you 64-bit Java SE 6 even on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5). Java SE 6 works fine with the VOLANO applets, but unfortunately the Safari browser that runs the applets is only 32-bit on Leopard, so applets in Safari still run with the 32-bit Java SE 5 instead of the 64-bit Java SE 6.
    So you have three options to solve the problem -- two free options (one rather easy, one more difficult), and one easy non-free option.
    (1) The Free and Relatively Easy Option
    If you have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (not a Core Solo or Core Duo), you can install all the software updates from Apple so that you'll have the 64-bit Java SE 6.
    About Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2733 "Java SE 6 is available on 64-bit, Intel-based Macs only."
    You would then modify your Java Preferences so that Java SE 6 is chosen first for the Java Application Runtime settings. You can verify the modified setting by running the following "java -version" command from the Terminal application (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal):
    $ java -version
    java version "1.6.0_20"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02-279-10M3065)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.3-b01-279, mixed mode)
    There are some more detailed instructions here:
    Install Java 6 on Mac OS X Leopard
    http://gephi.org/users/install-java-6-mac-os-x-leopard/
    Then you can bypass Safari and run the applet directly in the 64-bit Java SE 6 using the "appletviewer" command in Terminal. For example:
    $ appletviewer http://www.actionchat.com/chat/english.shtml
    You just put the URL of the page containing the VOLANO chat applet you want to load. I just tried it on my system, and it works fine. You bypass Java SE 5, which is broken for the VOLANO applets, and you bypass Safari, which cannot run the 64-bit Java SE 6. Instead, you run the VOLANO applet using your Java SE 6 directly!
    (2) The Free and Not-So-Easy Option
    You can download and install SoyLatte as an alternative to the Apple Java VM for your Mac OS X Leopard system.
    SoyLatte: Java 6 Port for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 (Intel)
    http://landonf.bikemonkey.org/static/soylatte/
    I have not tried SoyLatte on my iMac, though.
    (3) The Best but Non-Free Option
    For only $29, you can upgrade your system to the latest Snow Leopard and get both the 32-bit and 64-bit Java SE 6 along with a Safari Web browser that works with Java SE 6 for running applets!
    Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MACOS_XSNGL
    I hope this information is of help to any Leopard users having trouble with the latest Java update.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
    Please bear in mind that this issue, presumably introduced by Apple's own update, affects not only the command line java interpreter but any other app that depends on Java (including some GUI apps). So it perhaps fits the larger scope of Leopard instead of the Unix area.

  • Internet Packet based Chat

    Hi there,
    Im creating an internet based chat program, with a client, and a server program. It works by sending and recieving packets. I can get both my applications sending packets which are in a char array of maximum size 285. I know I have them sending because I have used hyperterminal and seen the output I want. However, they dont seem to be displaying on the other program. The code I have is this to send:
            public void sendPacket (char[] packet) {
                list.add("sendPacket function recieved: " + new String (packet));
                //send the packet passed to it
                try {
                    for(int i = 0; i < PACKETLENGTH; i++)
                        System.out.print(packet);
    bw.write(packet[i]);
    } catch (IOException e) {
    list.add("Error Sending packet.");
    The code I have to recieve it which doesnt seem to work is this:
            public void run()
                    while (true)
                            try                         //HANDLE RECIEVED MESSAGES
                                list.add(br.readLine());
                            }catch (Exception e){}
         }Could it be because the packets are larger than one line? Im fairly new to programming, and hope someone can help me out with this, because all has been going well with this project until now.. :-(
    the list is the window which displays all the messages, and bw and br are bufferedreader and bufferedwriter,,
    -Tom

    just a follow up question.
    but when you send it through a socket maybe, don't
    they like get transported as a raw data (not java
    specific types). Yes. What led you to believe that a char was "raw" data?
    Or alternatively, what led you to believe that you could read raw data as if it were a String?
    This doesn't work:
    String hello = new char[];And that's essentialy what you tried to do.
    My point is im confused on whether the types would
    really matter. Yes. If you write bytes, you must read bytes. If you write chars you must read chars. If you write String objects, you must read String objects.
    Take a look at ObjectInputStream and ObjectOutputStream.
    Dave.

  • Firefox requires clicking "Allow" to view one screen in cloud-based database

    When using Firefox (but not Windows) in a cloud-based database (SaaS) for facility scheduling, one particular screen (in a series of screens needed for each reservation) will not load until I click the "Allow" button every time. This is enough of a nuisance that I want to tell Firefox to trust everything on the url, my.serviceu.com/. I'd like to know how to do this. I only have this problem when using the system on Firefox, not MS Explorer, but the system is written to run best on Firefox.

    Do you mean this?
    *Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General Accessibility [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
    The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

  • Cloud based iTunes?

    Best to start out explaining the situation...LOL.  I travel full time for work, so almost always gone someplace, in a hotel in the evenings with wifi.  I have a quite large and hard to manage iTunes library (over 80k songs) that I maintain on my laptop (Macbook Pro).  My son uses the same music on a different hard drive, with his own library file.  I add music quite often.  This has presented a unique situation trying to keep my sons music updated.  We can easily update his drive to add the new music, but now, the program we've used, ITLU, doesn't seem to work anymore.  Is there a cloud based option for us?  I'm talking about a drive I have on the home network that I can link to, as a network drive, when I am traveling?  Any other reasonable suggestions would be welcome.

    Have you tried resetting your iPad? You will not lose any data. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Cloud based computing for beginners?

    The first thing you need to figure out is WHICH cloud skill set are they looking for?  Do they want you to know how to use public cloud offerings like Amazon, Azure and Rackspace?  If so, make an account and start working with them, it's that easy.  There is no way to learn except to do it.
    If they are looking for building and supporting cloud computing itself, then you do the same thing that you do with any field.... download the software and build yourself a lab at home.  OpenStack is far and away the dominant cloud platform and it is completely free.  You can do cloud computing at home pretty easily to get yourself started.
    Cloud isn't a skill on its own.  That's like says "computers" as a skill.  What specific skill set are they seeking?

    This link should introduce you to basics and then acquiring some knowledge, you should contact your local CLOUD SOLUTIONS SMBs to find out more about what they are offering, what they mean by cloud based app solutions, pricing ideas, hosting, reliability & stability, cost effectiveness comparing to your local hosted server, security of your hosted data. Before all that, just go through the basics and then get some consultation as practical knowledge and experiences are better than theories over the internet everywhere.
